Health and beauty products at target for 40$ or under?

Labels:

Levy Maris

I got a gift card for Christmas for 40 dollars, and i don't know what to spend it on!!
Help and Thank You(:

Answer
I'm not sure what you like or already have but here are a few ideas: Essie nail polish ($7), bronzer (around $10 for one of the ones with multiple bronzer hues in one compact), Mascara (under $9), facial mask, pedicure brush(it should have 4 different textures on one brush for your feet), You can make homemade sugar scrub for exfoliating as well, so I wouldn't spend $10-13 on sugar scrub. Best bet is to spend the gift card on things that you need, or know you will use.

Good foundations between 20 and 40 euro?

Answer
Many beauty & hair products now have LABEL INGREDIENTS and DISCLAIMERS, specially makeup, they are required to put labels so consumers are aware to watch for chemicals: DBP, TITANIUM, MERCURY, HYDROQUINONE, or Toluene solvent, that causes cancer or harm us. In other words, less is MORE.

Pencils & powder are your best choice, and makeup don't come cheap.

Women in the study with highest concentrations of these chemicals, called phthalates, in their bodies were more likely to have diabetes than women with lowest concentrations, the researchers said.
Phthalates are found in a variety of products, including nail polish, hair sprays, soaps and shampoos. The findings suggest that phthalates could disrupt blood sugar metabolism, said study researcher Tamarra James-Todd, of Brigham and Women's Hospital's Division of Women's Health.

Phthalates are present in certain medications and medical devices, and its possible women with diabetes have higher phthalate concentrations in their bodies due to the use of these medications or devices, James-Todd said.
James-Todd and colleagues analyzed information from 2,350 women ages 20 to 80 who took part in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, between 2001 and 2008. As part of the survey, participants underwent physical exams and provided urine samples.

One color additive of particular concern is kohl. Also known as al-kahl, kajal, or surma, kohl is used in some parts of the world to enhance the appearance of the eyes, but is unapproved for cosmetic use in the United States. Kohl consists of salts of heavy metals, such as antimony and lead. It may be tempting to think that because kohl has been used traditionally as an eye cosmetic in some parts of the world, it must be safe. However, there have been reports linking the use of kohl to lead poisoning in children.*
Lead on Lipstick: According to a 2009 study conducted by the FDA, every one of 22 lipstick samples tested contained lead, ranging from 0.9 ppm to 3.06 ppm. Though the amounts are small, they can have a big impact on the long-term health of women who apply lipstick every day (and sometimes multiple times per day). The agency's weak regulations for cosmetics allow up to 20 ppm lead in cosmetic colorants, but that doesn't account for other potential sources. The Campaign for Safe Cosmetic has found that lead can be a contaminant of petroleum-based ingredients or of minerals, such as zinc oxide or titanium dioxide.

Answer
What Are the Treatments for Skin Discoloration?
By Sabrina Ashley, eHow Contributor

Print this article

There are many treatments for skin discolorations. Not all methods work for all people so it is a good idea to start with the inexpensive home remedies. If home remedies and over-the counter products are not effective, a dermatologist has several methods that can work, but they are more expensive. Skin discolorations are the result of scarring, aging and genetics. Some people are born with freckles while others get age spots from excessive sun exposure. Many find an uneven skin tone and skin discolorations to be unattractive. Fortunately, there are several treatments to fade these discolorations.

Home Remedies

The two least expensive ways to treat skin discolorations are with lemon juice or hydrogen peroxide. Both are popular bleaching agents used in skin care products and can be found in a supermarket.

You can squeeze the juice from fresh lemons or buy a bottle of the juice. Lemons contain citric acid and this natural ac id gently exfoliates the top layer of skin or the epidermis.

Hydrogen peroxide is a strong bleach so the Food and Drug Administration only allows a solution of 3 to 3.5 percent to be used topically or internally. With the lemon juice and the hydrogen peroxide, apply the liquid to the discolored areas several times a day for best results. The discoloration will fade in time.
Skin Lighteners

Also called fade creams, skin bleaches and skin whiteners, these products contain chemicals that bleach the epidermis. The most common chemical is hydroquinone. The FDA allows over-the-counter creams and lotions to contain 2 percent hydroquinone. It is effective in fading skin discolorations. The Mayo Clinic suggests looking for skin bleaches that contain glycolic acid, kojic acid or deoxyarbutin.
Chemical Peels

Chemical peels can be done at home, at a beauty salon or in a doctor's office. In this procedure, an acid is applied to the skin. The acid burns the epidermis, and as the old and discolored skin peels away, new skin appears. The new skin is less discolored. Glycolic acid is not only used as an ingredient in bleaching products, but it can also be used alone for a chemical peel. Another product used for chemical peels is lactic acid. Both are effective in fading skin discolorations and both are sold at beauty supply shops for personal at-home use. Salons and doctors are able to use higher concentrations of these acids. Doctors also have more chemicals to choose from for doing peels, including some that are only available to the medical community.
Prescription Drugs

For skin discolorations that don't respond to home remedies or over-the-counter products, a visit to a dermatologist or plastic surgeon may be necessary. A doctor can give you prescription strength hydroquinone. Other topical prescription drugs are retinoids such as Retin-A. In some cases a mild steroid may be prescribed. These prescription creams can fade skin discoloration over several months.
Laser Surgery

The doctor may also use laser surgery to remove the skin discolorations. Laser therapy is expensive and usually requires several treatments. "Laser therapy destroys the extra melanocytes that create the dark pigment without damaging the skin's surface," the Mayo Clinic notes. The skin discolorations gradually fade over weeks or months, depending on the individual.

Anti aging skin care?

Labels:

Geremy

hi I m looking for an anti aging treatment for my mom's birthday, what do you recommand me? I need something safe and very effective.

Answer
Prepare to spend a good amount of money if you want a product that really works good. Try Clarins extra -firming nigth cream. It's around $85. Another one with great reviews is Bliss the youth as we know anti-aging night cream (it's a blue container) and for about $80. A less expensive is Philosophy box of miracles miraculous anti-aging, it's a 4-piece skin care set for $48. (i use Philosophy lip gloss, they're pretty good, at least the lip gloss are!).
Yeah, as i said, you will have to pay if you want get a great product because it's not just any cream, it's an anti-aging/wrinkle softener cream, so they're pricey, but it's your mom's birthday, she deserves a great gift. :)
Search on some CVS (I already saw Aveeno anti-aging products for like $15 each, you can buy 2 or 3 and make a set). I know Ulta has many products on sale, maybe you can find a nice deal.

Anyway to your name\logo idea I would just write: Iciwaa, I think it sounds awesome.

what has the fairtrade logo got to do with fairtrade?

Nullshox

what does it mean/symbolize?

Answer
It represents an ideal image. You have this lovely example of this beautiful field and sky and a man who can appreciate what it is. The logo represents what people want: beauty, health, strength, happiness out of life. The logo DOES NOT show pollution, unhappiness, an unfair working situation. The logo is a very organic style that makes you feel comfortable, and all the lines face up, which represents smiling.

In Fairtrade, you are supporting fair working conditions and compensation--all those good qualities.

Are Philosophy skin care products good and worth it?

Labels:

I saw on different websites and also from people that philosophy products for face ( cleansers, protective creams, etc) are really really good. I have sensitive skin a little oily and prone to breakouts.. should I try philosophy or something else? thanks!

Answer
I work at Nordstrom in the cosmetics department and I have tried MANY different face products. Philosophy is the only one that I purchased more than once. I use their face wash and moisturizer as well as their face mask/peel. I love it. I have oily/sensitive skin and this makes it look clear, healthy and matte. I say try it out!

Tips for female college students?

Labels:

Skye

They can be related to health, beauty, academics, relationships, whatever.

Answer
Health -- Eat well. This is one of the best things you can do for your body. No matter how busy you get, make sure you get in some physical activity at LEAST 3 times per week. Body health = brain health. I can't stress that enough!!

Beauty -- Some girls are super high maintenance in college/university. Those are the first years, and it's obvious. The people who are serious about their studies don't wear stilettos every day. ;) However, I'm not telling you to abandon personal care. Just be sensible about your wardrobe, and lean more towards comfort than the newest fad (after all, you'll be spending lots of time studying..and it's distracting to be uncomfortable!). Also, dress modestly. Professors will take you more seriously as a student if your boobs and butt aren't hanging out. Professionalism makes for better reference letters! Really.

Academics -- Figure out *your* best learning style. Do you need to make notes? Do you need to just listen? Does highlighting your textbook work? What about reading out loud? (goofy, but works for me! In my room alone, of course.) Another VERY important detail that a lot of first years miss: attend class! It's not like high school where a skipped class is no big deal. Skipping college/university classes are more dangerous, because you're held accountable for your own learning. The prof won't baby you for the assignment you missed. It's up to you to get the notes/assignments.

Relationships -- As much as having a boyfriend is fantastic (and I get that, really.), if you don't have one now, don't seek one in your first year or two of school. Focus on your education, and *then* worry about boys. Besides, if a guy sees you, there's nothing stopping him from taking the initiative. What I'm saying is, don't seek it out. You'll make some awesome friends in college. Be open to meeting new people. Step outside your "comfort zone" and talk to people next to you. They're just as nervous as you, so if you break the ice, they will be relieved. ;) I heard this quote once, and I really think it's true and applies here: "If you make it plain you like people, it's hard for them to resist liking you back."

Whatever -- Have fun! Enjoy your time in college. Take it easy on the parties and plan for study time, but don't stress! You'll have a great time. :)

Hope this helps!

Oily skin solutions? Oily bangs solutions?

hammy

What are good beauty products (foundation, facial wash, and moisturizer) for a very oily T-zone with dry cheeks? ><; I have bangs that get oily quickly as well, and shampoo suggestions are good also.

Answer
hi :)

I used to suffer from bad skin, but I now have clear skin, so I am going to try and help you. Please read for more info: :D

First off all, foundation is not good for your skin, as it stops your skin from being free and breathing properly. However, if you want to use some foundation I suggest you use, either L'Oreal Mineral Foundation or Chanel. L'Oreal Mineral Foundation is very good, because it contains minerals which your skin likes. My personal favourite is Chanel, because they have wonderful products and whenever I use their foundation it leaves my skin feeling fresh and glowing. It may be expensive but you pay for the quality. For the facial wash, I just wash my face everynight and every morning with warm water using a flannel. I don't like facial wash and I don't think they actually work. But if you want one choose one that is chemical free. Don't listen to these lies buy the products like neutrogean, because they don't work, they just say they do, because they want money. Your moisturer is the most important, because it works as a cleanser too. I suggest my two favourites, coconut oil and camolline. You can buy them at any health food store and everything they sell there is natural.

For the shampoo, I live in England and I don't know if they sell it in America, but I use J.A.S.O.N shampoo and their shampoo is completely natural and my favourite one is peach. It smells yummy and leaves your hair glowly and smooth. It's all natural so it doesn't harm your hair. I suggest any chemical free and natural shampoo.

Try this home remedy to help you out:

I always do this, especially in the summer when the sun is out - but you know in England, there's hardly any sun D: buy some lemons from the shop. Press them and get the fresh lemon juice - it doesn't matter if there are any bits or pips in them. Then just apply the lemon juice onto your face and scars. You can do this even if you don't have any scars, but just to help get rid of the acne. You apply it on your face and leave it for a few minutes. DON'T! add any water. Adding something to it, will kill off all the good bits, just leave it as it is. It will sting a bit, but it doesn't matter. If you want blonde highlights for your hair, sit in the sun for 30 minutes and apply the lemon juice all over your hair. Works like a treat and saves money to the hairdresser ;] so yeah, bascially apply it on your face

Good luck xoxo

Hit the Big Lots, Marshalls, Ross and TJ Maxx, they have already started putting out things like cashmere scarves, leather and knit gloves, wonderful micro fleece throws, gift sets with lotions, skin care products, manicure kits for both sexes and a handy little gizmo I gave everyone I know for Christmas last year. In case you get stuck in your car, it cuts the seat belt, breaks a window, has a flasher to alert on coming traffic and could save someones life in an accident.

skin care routine.?? help/advice?

[bre' bby)

I see how people have a routine for Morning and night. Why is that? And i need help with my routine.

I have clinique 3 step acne solution;
1.Acne Solutions Cleansing Foam
2.Acne Solutions Clarifying Lotion
3.Acne Solutions Clearing Moisturizer Oil-Free
&& their Even Better Skin Tone Corrector

& Clean and clear advantage kit;
1.Acne Control Cleanser
2.Acne Control Moisturizer
3.Acne spot treatment

Now, my question is which should i use in the morning and which should i use at night time?? And why??
-Any advice or tips is highly appreciated. Thank you so much!!

Answer
I used to work for Clinique and was an esthetician and pro makeup artist for over 10 years. They try to sell you every product, but you don't need it all. Don't get me wrong, clinique is a good line and is better then Clean and Clear but you really don't need all of this stuff. All of the acne products you have mentioned are extremely drying and harsh on your skin.
You only need one line of skin care.
You need a good cleanser that will remove makeup, dirt and oil. You can use this in the morning and night, and a good moisturizer also for morning and night, if you have oily skin use gel. You also need an BHA exfoliatator, if you have acne you will need a benzoyl peroxide product to kill bacteria, use this as a spot treatment as you need it and only where you have a break out. If your skin is oily its best to stay in the gel forms of these products.
Use mineral makeup like Bare Essentials for your cosmetics.
If you are still experiencing acne you might have an internal toxin problem. Get the book The Raw Food Detox Diet by Natalia Rose this will work wonders for your skin and your body.

peace and good luck

how can i be a successful beauty guru?

Labels:

So I have a beauty channel beautynerd246 and I wanna how if u have any tips ti become like really popular on youtube.

Leave any tips please
Thanks

Answer
I would start by following Talia Castellano. Seriously. CoverGirl made Talia an honorary CoverGirl and she now does beauty tutorials on The Ellen Show. And she's only 13!

So start there.

Then I would start interacting with other beauty people on YouTube also. Start asking questions; look at the questions other people are asking and use those questions as the basis for doing more videos.

Do A LOT of videos. The more videos you have, the more you'll be recognized.

And make sure that as people ask you questions, be sure to answer them, and if possible, do another tutorial to help answer those questions.

Do Video Responses to your own videos so two of your videos always show up below each video.

When you find a really cool video and you've done a similar one, say same style with different colors or something, post a video response to someone else's video.

Also, subscribe to a lot of other channels and eventually people will start following your channel.

These are the things I've been trying and have heard from some other YouTube 'gurus' to try, regardless of whether you're in beauty or health or whatever.

Good luck!

I put Talia's YouTube channel below, that is if you're not already a fan. :-)

How old should i be to become a beauty guru?

Gloria

I want to become a beauty guru but i feel that i'm too young. I'm 13 do you think its to young? If you do then what age do you think i should be come one? Thanks in advance:)

Answer
My favorite beauty gurus on Youtube (KandeeJohnson, Rachhloves & DulceCandy87) are the girls who are a bit older, Rachel is 26, Kandee in her 30's and DucleCandy is in her late 20's as well I believe.
I think I like these ones the best because they have more life experience to offer and have more experience with how to do hair and makeup that looks great.
This does not mean that there aren't any good, teenage gurus out there. I love LaVivaBeauty, CityandMakeup and iheartmakeup92.

I think 13 might be a bit too young... You could try, I just think at least 16 is a good age.
You have to remember that yes they get noticed, can become pretty well known and get tons of views, but they also recieve a lot of criticism. People will straight up say you are ugly, or, this looks terrible (I've seen it!) So prepare yourself for that. Immediately delete these comments (maybe set it to where you have to approve a comment before it shows up on the feed) and block them.

Tell people exactly what your mission is with your channel, do you want to focus on one thing more than another like makeup, hair, or fashion? A little of everything? You don't even have to limit yourself to beauty videos, people including me love DIY, fitness/health and inspirational videos!
Having a catchy username helps (one that people will remember), and using a high quality camera makes a huge difference!!! You also need to know how to edit videos.

Good luck with everything, and when and if you do create a channel be it tomorrow or 3 years from now, send me a link to it, I will support you! <3

What was considered "beauty" to Ancient Greeks?

I'm doing a research project but I'm a little confused as to where to start. What do you think is considered beauty to the Ancient Greeks?

Answer
Look at their art - their idea of beauty will be there.
In the times before long life, good food and effective medicine, beauty was inseparable from health and fertility, for both sexes. The same can be said for the idealisation of form in Ancient Egyptian and Roman Art. Art is the key and that is where you will find your answer.

Skin Care/Acne Question!?

Chelsea

Okayy, so I have pretty good skin; The only problem i really have is the occasional annoying pimple. Bt here's my question. So right now I'm using Purity by Philosophy & Its an amazing product; I absolutely loove how soft it makes my skin feel. Bt my concearn is that i dnt think there's any ance stuff in there. Like its a great face wash, bt its does nothing to help my breakouts, & being a teenager, thats pretty important to me. So..is there a face wash out there that will make my skin soft&pretty like purity AND help w/ my breakouts? Or shud i jus keep using purity & get an acne spit treatment? if so, which treatment. If this sounds like youu. plz also share yourr skincare regimen w/ me! Thnx a bunch in advance!

Answer
Below is my skincare regime but it's also good for all skin types. I added an example of what I use personally to help guide you but it is by no means necessary for you to purchase those items. I just like them personally because I purchased everything at Target except for one item and they are all relatively affordable. Just make sure you do this twice a day (morning and before bed).

1. Eye makeup remover. A good one is half oil and half water and you will need to shake it up prior to using it then squirt some onto a cotton pad or ball and gently remove your eye makeup. It may leave your eyes feeling a little oily but the oil is good at removing all eye makeup, even waterproof mascara. You can run water on your eyes afterwards to get rid of the oily feeling if you'd like. Ex: Boots Botanics Soothing Eye Makeup Remover $5.99 at Target.
2. Cream cleanser. Use this with absolutely no water. Simply apply all over your dry face in circular motions, avoiding the eyes. You can then rinse it off with water or a damp washcloth but be sure not to use any water when you are first working this on your face. Ex: Boots Botanics Organic Facial Cleanser $7.99 at Target.
3. Alcohol-free toner. Squirt onto a couple of cotton pads and wipe all over your face, avoiding the eyes. Ex: Boots Expert Sensitive Gentle Refreshing Toner $3.99 at Target.
4. Daytime moisturizer and night cream. During the day you need a moisturizer to act as a barrier for your skin to hold in moisture. At night you need a cream that will replenish the moisture you lost throughout the day. Ex: Boots Expert Sensitive Light Moisturizing Lotion for day from Target (don't remember the price but I know it's around $8) and Boscia Recharging Night Moisture from Sephora which is $44. Night creams are more expensive and the right ones are difficult to find. Read the ingredients to make sure mineral oil isn't one of the ingredients for the night cream you choose as that will not penetrate the skin.
5. Eye cream. Use an amount about half the size of a grain of uncooked rice (yes, very little). Rub this between both ring fingers and then gently tap it on the bone surrounding the eye moving all the way up to above your brows. Never rub this all over your eyelids. Ex: Boots Botanics Organic Face Moisturizing Eye Cream $14.99 from Target.
6. Yogurt. Go to the grocery store and pick up a lemon, orange, or pineapple flavored yogurt (make sure the yogurt isn't the kind with fruit at the bottom but is actually that fruit flavor) and then apply it all over your clean face and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. You can then rinse it off with lukewarm water. The active cultures in yogurt will help neutralize the bacteria in your pores so it will help heal any blemishes you have currently and also help prevent new ones. The citric acid from the lemon, orange, or pineapple will also help dissolve the top layer of your skin (just like using a scrub to exfoliate but much more gentle). You can do this every day if your skin is really bad or just 1-2 times a week as a preventative measure.

I hope this has helped but if you have a question, need me to clear something up, or want to know why I recommend each product, please feel free to e-mail me. You can do so through my profile.

Normally they will not allow you to tan under the age of 16 in some places, 18 in others. It usually depends on the place not on the laws.

I would also like to say that I have seen the result of excessive tanning. A woman I worked for tanned every week sometimes twice a week and looked like an oompa loompa from hell. Her skin was orange and looked horrible.

Cancer? Sure, you're probably too young to care about that. Sure it's deadly, but at your age, you're invincible. But what would you think about having skin that looks like old abused leather? Early wrinkles aren't pretty. It also damages your hair and makes it dry and brittle. That's certainly not pretty. So you want to keep it looking it's best? Here's a little advice:

As for the make-up, most adult women who wear make-up have multiple colors for varying degrees. I personally never wear it, and my skin is beautiful, acne free, and smooth. I do nothing to damage it, I don't tan, I wear hats, and I don't wear make-up but on very rare occasions. My mother always says that the only thing you should regularly put on your face is warm water. At nearly 60, my mother has the skin of a 30-year-old, and I never had any skin problems.

Why are women today wanting to keep a youthful appearance into their senior years?

deepsoul20

I see women in their mid 40's up to about 60 still sporting long flowing hair. When I was growing up in the 80's and 90's, women cut their hair shortly after they turned mid 30's and generally kept it short. In other words, why are women looking younger for longer periods of time in today's world?

Answer
Well if it was me, I wouldn't want to look old. I think looking young is prettier, but it's just an opinion. Mostly because of tighter skin but looking young makes you feel young. When you're young, you feel strong and ready for anything. You're in your prime. I wouldn't cut off my hair just because I was 40! (To be honest I'd want a face lift and I'd do anything to look young!). Usually people see young women as more attractive and "hotter", if you will. And long flowing hair isn't just a young people only thing, lol. If I looked old I'd feel like "ugh I'm done with life I don't care bout trying to look sexy anymore". Maybe it's just me but I think even when I get older, I'd still want to wear make up and wear things in-style to look younger because I want to feel younger so I don't feel all crotchety and old and batty. I'd want to feel 'cool', I guess.

Interesting list. I've read a few, a few are on my to-read list, I'm going to look up some of the others and maybe add them to my to read list.

David Copperfield - Very entertaining. Dickens is one of the all-time great storytellers. Also great for giving you a feel for England in the mid 1800s.

A Passage to India - boring

The French Lieutenantâs Woman - many people say this is their favorite book. It's on my to-read list.

Lord of the Flies - entertaining and disturbing. You need to read this to understand that pessimistic view of humanity. I don't entirely agree with it, but it's something that everybody needs to think about.

Catch-22 - on my to-read list.

Moby Dick - on my to-read list. But first I want to read his semi-autobiographical novels about jumping ship on a South Sea island and falling in love with a native girl - Typee: A Peep at Polynesian Life, Omoo, and Mardi. I think all 3 are available free online.

Cry, the Beloved Country - I read this about 45 years ago. It was very moving. It will make you want to go out and fight prejudice and oppression. After reading it, think about how we're currently treating Mexican immigrants ("illegal aliens").

All the Kingâs Men - on my to-read list. Fictionalized story of Huey Long. Very educational. I also want to see the movie version that starred the great Broderick Crawford. Also the version starring Sean Penn.

Anthem - Rand's short sci-fi novel. Very philosophical and poetical.

Atlas Shrugged - one of my favorite books. Be true to your own values. Don't sacrifice yourself for "mindless slugs." The movie Atlas Shrugged Part 1 is available on Pirate Bay. I think Atlas Shrugged Part 2 is still in theaters.

On the Beach - on my to-read list. I've read another book, Trustee in the Toolroom, by the same author. That was a very entertaining book.

The Grapes of Wrath - one of my favorite books. Also the movie with Henry Fonda as Tom Joad. And The Ballad of Tom Joad by Woody Guthrie.

Here's Henry Fonda delivering the "I'll be there" speech:
http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=d40_1306126285

Here's Woody Guthrie singing The Ballad of Tom Joad (which includes the "I'll be there" speech).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKWGAGPy_kw

And, a little off topic, here's Woody Guthrie's Deportees
sung by Woody's hippie son Arlo Guthrie and Emmylou Harris:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TN3HTdndZec

Puddânhead Wilson - a white baby and a light-skinned black baby are switched at birth. The white baby raised by blacks grows up to be a good man, while the black baby raised by whites grows up to be a villain. When I read it, I thought it was racist. But after reading Huckleberry Finn, I don't believe Mark Twain was racist. Perhaps his point was that babies are not born good or bad - it's their upbringing that determines their character, and the upbringing of a member of the "master class" is likely to produce a villain.

Huckleberry Finn - I loved the part where Huck concludes, "All right then, I'll GO to hell." That made Huck one of my greatest literary heroes.

Slaughterhouse 5 - loved the movie. Sci-fi about a character who comes unstuck in time and lives his life
in random order. But it's very realistic and serious because it's largely based on Vonnegut's actual experience in World War II. He was a prisoner-of-war in Dresden when it was fire-bombed by the Allies. Afterwards he was on a POW work detail helping to clean up the mess (thousands of civilians burned to death).

This inspired me to write:

"The Nazis won World War II.

Near the beginning of the war, the Nazis attacked England with terrorist bombings of English cities.

By the end of the war, both England and America were firebombing civilian populations.

We occupied the Nazis' territory, but the Nazis occupied our souls.

Can you help me with names for these characters?

The main character's parents expected a boy and were very disappointed that she was a girl. They didn't bother to change the name because they didn't care about her. She is a very independent girl. She is 16 years old. She has wavy auburn colored hair and green eyes. Her parents disown her and she moves in with her best friend. Her friend's mom gives her a diary so she can write to get rid of some of her anger. The book is a diary.

For the main character, I was thinking Elliot with the nickname Ellie, or Jack with the nickname Jackie. but I REALLY need some other suggestions. I need a boys name with a cute nickname.

I also need some suggestions for her best friend's name and her mom's name.

Her friend has straight black hair, brown eyes, tan skin, and is an art student. She is very pretty. She is Spanish and Italian, but I want her name to have Spanish roots, not so much Italian.

Her mom has short black hair, tan skin, brown eyes and is one of the sweetest ladies ever. She moved from Spain when she was 7, so I want her to have a name that reflects that.

Thank you so, so much!!

Does Simple Skin Care products work good?

Labels:

Lady Gaga

Answer
Simple Skin Care, organic, or over the counter works, but less products you use, the better for your skin in the long run. It is a billion dollar business, less product poisoning, no matter who made them or how much you spend or how often you use them.

In the beauty industry, there is no industry-agreed meaning for terms like 'organic' or 'natural'. Unlike the food industry, these terms are not regulated for cosmetics which means companies can use these terms pretty freely

Don't believe the hype: "For skin care products, 'organic is not enough,. Some organic products are fabulous, and some are not." ~ Dr. Lisa Chipps , M.D. specializes in removing skin cancer & repairing the resultant wound (laser therapy whiz) in Rodeo Drive.
"Organic skin care products are trendy, but that does not mean nonorganic ones are dangerous," Wendy E. Roberts, M.D. past president of the Women's Dermatologic Society.

What are good facial skin care products?

=]

I really want good skin. I get an occasional pimple. I have combo skin. Normal forehead, oily nose, dry everything els. My skin is sensitive. I was thinking of getting the neutrogena one step facial cleanser and the alcohol free toner. I also have the wave, the neutrogena pink grapefruit wash, burts bees soap bark and chamomile cleansing cream, burts bees peach and willobark scrub. Also if you know any really good scrub for dry sensitive skin then please say:)
I don't use all of the products it's just what I have

Answer
Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser - Its specially formulated for sensitive skin so it works wonders on all skin types and can be used daily without worry. Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser will not dry out the skin and actually leaves the skin feeling soft and clean at the same time. It cleanses well, rinses off perfectly and isn't irritating. It does slightly (very slightly) dry my skin out but not that tight dry feeling you get with some other cleansers. I have also not developed any clogged pores or breakouts while using this, and I'm *very* prone to clogged pores!

Cetaphil also has a moisturizing cream that I think is even better than the cleanser! It's not greasy, absorbs quickly and leaves no shine. There's no fragrance to irritate my sensitive skin or nose. My dermatologist also told me that it was developed by a drug company that wanted a product that doesn't interact with their prescriptions, so it's chemically inert.

Queen Helene's Mint Julep Masque, this minty-scented clay mud masque comes in either a tube (love the tube) or a tub (not such a big fan of the tub, but it is more economical). My "secret" to keeping my complexion eternally fair and clear as the weather forecast for heaven. It just sucks up all the **** and leaves pure, fresh, clean skin behind.

Best skin care tips for a 14 year old?

Labels:

Anon

I do not use make up or anything like that. never. Js.
What would be some helpful skin care tips for a normal 14 year old like me? :)
Thanks in advance.

Answer
Okay. I just wanna tell you that this might be long. but, Im just trying to help :)

Since you are 14, this is a great age to start your skincare routine for better skin at the future. The basic routine for good skin is cleansing, moisturizing and exfoliating routine. For cleansing, you need to have a suitable cleanser. As for me, Im using Clean and Clear's . Clean and Clear specifies for teenagers and it useful for those teen years to fight off acne and spots. As for moisturiser, it depends on your skin type. If you have dry skin, get a moisturiser that has oil in it. But since you are a teenager, and most likely you will have an oily skin, it is best to use an oil free, non comodogenic ( it means it wont block your pores) moisturiser. Im using Clean and Clean Rice Extract moisturiser with SPF15. SPF protects your face from the UVrays of the sun. You need to know that too much sun exposure can lead to acne and a skin condition called papules on face ( google on papules, you'll know what Im talking about). And papules aren't pretty. I had them and they were ugly .So sun protection is needed. Buy a moisturiser with SPF, it's like a two in one thing :)

For exfoliating, facials masks needs to be done. You can try this and prevent future pimples too (Got this tip from my dermatologist) . It is a small sauna for face actually. Try boiling a pot, preferably a metal pot with water. Let it boil and cover it with a lid or anything , so that the heat doesn't escape. After it boils, take the metal pot (still with the lid) and place it on a table, chair or whatsoever .Take a towel, or a blanket and sit down. Cover the whole of your body with the metal pot too. Remove the lid and let the heat out . So now your skin can actually feel the heat . Do not let the heat escape to the surroundings. Do this for about 10 to 15 minutes. Prepare a towel to dab your face from time to time if your face gets too sweaty. Dont rub your skin with the towel, only dabbing is allowed. As rubbing will irritate your skin. After all the heat had been used finished, remove the blanket/cover or whatever you used. Get some water then wash your face with ONLY water. Dont use your facial cleanser yet. After all this, you can use a mask. Clay mask, cucumber mask, or any mask that suits your skin type. In your case, I would suggest a cucumber facial mask or a tomato mask. Because after you do this small sauna thing, your skin pores will be opened ,so if you use a mask now, it will effectively remove all the dirt from face and also kills zits.

As I have mentioned the cucumber and tomato mask, now I will tell you why. Cucumbers hydrate the skin and eliminates dead cells that might accumulate in your pores, causing them to clog and this causes acne. For cucumber mask, just buy a cucumber. Skin it. Squash the skinned cucumber into a nice watery pulp. Apply all over face and let it dry for 10 to 15 minutes until you feel your skin tighten. then rinse off. After using the mask, cleanse your face (Its okay if you dont use your facial cleanser for a day, chemicals arent good anyways. But if you still want to use your facial cleanser, go on. ) I had tried this and it always works. Zits are gone the next day!

You can try tomato mask as well. Just get two tomatoes. Skin em then squash em into a nice watery pulp. Apply on face ,leave it on for 10 minutes then rinse off. Do facial masks with gaps.Like twice a week with 2 days of gaps. For example, use the cucumber mask on Monday, and tomato mask on Thursday. see what I mean? keep doing it and you will see your skin improving :)

These steps are crucial to prevent future acne problems. If you keep doing this, you will have a healthier skin in the future . I had been doing all this since Im 15 , and now my skin is still free of acne although Im now 19. And dont go for chemicals unless you have severe acne problems. They dry out your skin and make the overall condition even worse, always opt for natural remedies . I used those salicyclic, benzoyl peroxide, differin and I regretted it. So I hope you don't. Good luck. Hope you have a better skin.

Skin care tips?

Q. I just want to know whats some of your at home tips that you use to keep your skin glowing and pimple free?
Sorry it some how got in the wrong catagory.
I have combination skin.

Answer
The girl above me "black cat karma" didn't list her source - her answer was copied and pasted from this blog: www.xanga.com/ricebunny

I just wanted Miss Michelle Phan to get her credit for her mask and scrub discoveries =)

Skin care tips really do depend on what type of skin you have. Do you have normal, oily, combination, dry or just acne prone?

First off, you need to find a cleanser that works for your type of skin:

-Normal skin can go for gentle cleansers.
-Dry skin needs a cleanser that does not foam up. The less foam your cleanser produces the less drying it is for your skin. If you have dry skin, try a cream cleanser.
-Combination skin needs a cleanser that wont dry out the normal skin on the face but needs to be powerful enough to get rid of the oil in the oily places. Try a gel cleanser or a cream cleanser.
-Oily skin needs a foaming cleanser. It helps get rid of oil more than other cleansers.
-Acne prone skin needs a cleanser with of course, acne fighting ingredients such as benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid.

*wash your face TWICE a day. Once in the morning and once at night. Not more, not less.

I have combination skin that is acne prone: I use Neutrogena Acne cream cleanser. I concentrate washing my T-zone.

Secondly, Moisturize after you cleanse.

All skin needs a good moisturizer. Find one that works for your skin type.

I use olay daily moisturizer with spf 15. Protecting your skin from harmful sun damage is a must for healthy, glowing skin! Find a moisturizer with spf 15 or higher. Because I have oily skin around my T-zone area (forehead, nose and chin) i use a sunscreen that contains silicone which helps absorb oil from the surface of my skin so I am less oily than I am without it =)
I use Neutrogena Dry Touch Sunblock in spf 55.

Third of all, Exfoliate!

Pimples are from clogged pores. Exfoliating helps get rid of dead skin cells and leave your skin glowing, soft and smooth! I dont like the idea of exfoliating too often because it sounds harsh. I usually exfoliate once a week with a gentle scrub. Some people exfoliate twice a day! Find what works best for your skin. After you exofliate, make sure you put on some rich moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated and glowing.

Bottom line: find what works best for you.

Good luck and have fun!

Need a reliable skin-care routine/treatment?

Labels:

Julie

I've tried Proactive (just the 3-step kit with cleanser, toner, and repairing treatment) and it works relatively well except for the fact that it dries my cheeks out and the areas around my mouth, causing my skin to kind of peel. Really embarrassing. It burns mildly, too. Then I decided to just use Johnson and Johnson's Head-to-Toe baby wash. That also dried my skin out in the same areas, but not as bad as the Proactive. It didn't burn at all. I live in Utah, and it's frikkin' cold over here, so that really does a number on my skin. I just want to even out my face, so it's not so dry, but i don't want it to be oily either. (I'm on a budget too, so I'd like to steer away from the $50 + online products) got any ideas what I should do?

Answer
St. Ives scrub and the st. Ives timeless skin elastin moisturizer. Works great(:

Cat groomer in Utah? A good, trustworthy friendly one?

shadowlp06

I am looking for a car groomer in Utah. I need somone who is good, reliable, trustworthy, friendly, and knows how to care for a cat. I can't seem to find one, and the vets aren't groomers, and my cat needs grooming attention. I just recently got this cat and he wasn't taken care of very well. He has really bad matted fur, and to the point of his skin in irritated. I need someone to help him with great care.

Answer
All you need to do is go on Google.

Beauty/Health Advice Needed! ?

Labels:

KnowItAll

Im changing my appearance (style, beauty, personality.)
Advice needed! Here are my problems:
1. Eyebrows. I have super thick eyebrows and they are untameabe. Ideas?
2. Uneven Skin Color. Around eyebrows, I have light skin, while the rest is dark. Ideas?
3. Flab to Ab? Yes, please. My stomach has alot of rolls of fat, and I want it flat! Ideas?
4. I have scars all over my body. Ideas?
Thankss guys(: im looking for permanent solutions!

Answer
1. They have some laser treatments for eyebrow hair, but they can get really expensive! If you are willing to spend the money it's a great option. If you can't or don't want to spend your money on that, most salons offer waxing or plucking for eyebrows, you would just need to get them redone every other month (or however often according to your salon).

2. I don't know of a permanent solution to darkening or lightening skin tones, but I know they have special spray tan treatments that can focus on one area of the skin, you would just have to get it re-done every month or so.

3. Drink TONS of water everyday! Eat only fruits and vegetables before noon (or whenever you eat lunch), Do ab workouts like crunches or plank every morning and night, also try yoga, Pilate's, Zumba, or even a dance class. Try to eat whole grains instead of white bread or pasta. Have fun and do something that you like doing!

4. You can buy Vitamin E capsules and break them open and rub them on the existing scars, moisturize the scars everyday and every night, there are creams or patches you can buy to reduce the appearance of scars, or you can see a doctor about surgically removing the scars.

Hope I could help! :)

What is a good skin care routine ?

Labels:

Sussie

And please list some good products for oily skin. UK thanks

Answer
Hi Sussie,
I've been a holistic skin care therapist for 11 years now and I find it's always best to
see an Esthetician (or Beauty Therapist) for a consultation to discover the best
products for your skin. They will analyze your skin and have the training to choose the proper
ingredients to best treat your skin. They're are so many product lines out there and it can be so confusing.
If you're looking for all organic/natural, find a spa that only works in that area. In other words, choose a skin care center that best fits your skin care philosophy.
Good luck!

Looking for a good skin care place in Vancouver?

Hi Hi

I have very very bad acnes and I need to get rid of them. :(
I searched for skin care clinic but there's a bunch of them. I have no idea which one to go.
Any recommendations?

Also any suggestions to make my skin better? :'(
I've tried Proactive but it didn't work... My skin was horribly dry and red+swollen+painful...

Now I'm 21, thought this is the time my skin gets better from those adolescent skin problems, but getting worse in reality...

Thank you!

Answer
I go to the vancouver skin care centre. It is a really good place. I had horrible acne and a forehead rash and when we moved to vancouver I went there and now i am acne free! It got a lot better in about two months, but took a year to clear up completely. I say stp using proactive and those, and see a dermetologist. They will give you what you really need for your skin.

heres a link to their website.

She does not use any face cream or get a facial for a long time.
I would really appreciate for your help.
Thank You.

Answer
The number of anti aging skin products you use depends on your lifestyle, your habits, your
expectations, your finances, and your skinâs needs. But according to fashion and beauty expert
Lois Joy Johnson, every woman 50+ needs at least this daily regimen:

5 Anti-Wrinkle Face Creams Most Recommended By Women Over 50.

Anyone have skin care tips or info on skin care for women age 50+?

wildhorses

I've had oily skin but it's been dry lately and espescially during the winter months. I eat right and exercise but want to avoid wrinkles and eventually age lines. I sometimes do face workouts on youtube also.

Answer
I agree with mukunda. Most skin care products are damaging to your skin. Not all are, but the well known ones are often quite nasty. Unfortunately the skin care industry is unregulated and there are ingredients in skin care products that you wouldn't want to know about. Some are known to cause cancer.

Here's some more interesting reading about that:

Average skin routine ?

Jaydon

What should the average skin routine be to take care of it and keep it looking healthy (day and night)?

Answer
Well, no one will honestly know what will be best for your skin without knowing your skin type. You select skin care products solely on skin type, not age, sex, weather, or mood. If you are unsure of your complete skin type, then take the questionnaire developed by clinical researcher, broad-certified dermatologist, and author of the Skin Type Solutions, Dr. Leslie Baumann. Register first then take the quiz; afterwards, visit the specified forum that is tailored to your unique skin type to learn more about general skin care and product recommendations.

KEY products/steps you want to look for are: cleanser, exfoliant, retinoids, antioxidant concentrate, and sunscreen. Acne medications and moisturizer are optional depending on your skin type. Below, I have provide a short list of recommendation for both oily and dry skin types.

Cleansers - Olay Foaming Face Wash, Sensitive (Oily & Dry) | CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser (Oily) | CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser (Dry)

Exfoliant - Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Stress Control Triple-Action Toner (Oily) | Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Stress Control 3-in-1 Hydrating Acne Treatment (Oily) | Alpha Hydrox AHA Enhanced Lotion (Dry) | Paula's Choice Skin Revealing Body Lotion with 10% Alpha Hydroxy Acid (Dry)

Retinoids - talk to your board-certified dermatologist about prescription retinoids such as Retin-A Micro, Tazorac, or Differin. Over-the-counter "retinol" can be your alternative. Although they are less potent, they can produce similar results over a few months. Try SkinCeutical Retinol 0.5 or 1.0 | Skin Medica TriRetinol Complex | Replenix All-Trans Retinol Serum 2-10X | Green Cream Level 3-9. Any of them is suitable for both oily and dry.

Antioxidant concentrate - Paula's Choice RESIST Super Antioxidant Concentrate (Oily & Dry) | SkinCeuticals CE Ferlic Acid (Oily & Dry) | SkinMedica Vitamin C + E Complex (Oily & Dry).

Sun Protection - Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF 30-55 (Oily) | Aveeno Continuous Protection Sunblock Lotion SPF 55 (Dry).

Best Wishes

Omg, America is like the fattest country in the world.... the riches... also the fattest?! America needs to stop eating so much junk and eating "low calorie" foods, because you are still eating the junk...

*green tea helps to loose weight
*so does sleeping
* eating more(makes metabolism speed up...but not junk food)

Also... America has a lot of pimple/face problems

*Witch hazel (toner) helps to reduce the appearance of large pores
* "Collective wellbeing" a natural skincare line takes away pimples better than anything ( + it's organic)
* "KISS MY FACE" lotion called "Chinese botanicals" softens skin and HEALS (it's organic)
* Honey masks reduce the redness of pimples
* getting steam on your face will help open pores
*Scrub helps to take off dead skin and make room for new skin
*DRY BRUSHING/loofa/boar brush, will help detox skin. It will take off all of the toxins which make your skin their home every day. It will help to get rid of ingrown hair and more.

bye bye!

I go to expos and trade shows a lot. Typically, you have to have a business license and they will send out a newsletter when the next show will be. Try going to any search engine and typing in health and beauty expos and trade shows for 2007. Good Luck!
