Poll-What are the differences between a grocery store, department store and supermarket?

Labels:

kmart beauty and health on Oral-B Coupons | FREE Toothbrushes + Possible Moneymaker!
kmart beauty and health image

Q. How would you compare the three and say how are they alike and different?

Answer
Today the terms "Grocery Store" and "Supermarket" are used interchangeably in the US. At one time "Supermarket" denoted a self-service grocery store when the norm was a format in which the customer placed an order that was then collected from shelves behind the counter.

The term "department store" indicates a store whose chief product line is soft goods, i.e. clothing. Additional product lines have found their way into department stores over the years (small appliances, giftware, etc.) but the sales and square footage are predominantly clothing.

"Mass Merchandisers" is the term for Walmart, Target, Kmart stores and others whose large stores include a wide range of general merchandise categories, including soft goods, health & beauty, housewares, stationery, etc.

"Hypermarche", "hypermarket" and "super center" are terms to indicate stores that combine a Supermarket and Mass Merchandiser into one format.

What do you do at te dermatologists if you want to get a mole removed and how do they do it?

Rawr Rawr

Answers asap please

Answer
Moles come in two forms--those that are genetic and those that are caused by sun exposure. If you have a mole that has changed in shape, size or color, you should see a dermatologist. Some moles may be cancerous and it's important to have them regularly checked by a doctor. If you wish to get rid of moles on your body, there are several avenues you can take. Be aware that most mole removal methods will leave you with a scar in place of the mole.

1
Have all your moles checked by a dermatologist. You first want to rule out the possibility that any of your moles are cancerous. If a particular mole looks suspect, your doctor may take a small biopsy from it. Make annual skin cancer checks part of your health care routine.

2
Talk to your dermatologist about removing your role via excision. This involves the doctor cutting the mole out of your skin and then sewing the skin back together with stitches. Generally, only a few stitches are needed. Once the skin heals, you will have a small, straight scar where the mole used to be.

3
Ask your doctor about cauterized excision mole removal. In this procedure, your dermatologist will use a razor-type instrument to shave the mole out of the skin. He will then cauterize or burn the area to remove any mole that remains there. This method of mole removal does not require any stitches. After the skin heals, you will have a scar that is similar in size and shape to the mole that was removed.

4
Consider laser mole removal. The laser's light will target the pigment in the mole. The pigment will be broken up, thereby eliminating the mole. Your skin is burned in the process so it will be red and irritated following treatment. Scarring can occur with laser mole removal, though it is less common than with excision mole removal.

5
Care for your skin properly following mole removal. Keep the area clean and free of bacteria and debris. Protected wounds heal more quickly than those exposed to air. Take it easy for a few days. Your skin will be less likely to scar if you don't stretch the skin in the area.

6
Try home remedies to remove your mole. Rub fresh honey onto the mole daily. Apply castor oil to the mole twice a day. Place ground garlic onto the mole and leave on overnight. These home remedies have been shown to be effective at reducing the appearance of moles.

How do I make home-made organic soaps?

homemade beauty and health recipes image

Paige

Me and my mom want to start making our own soap at home. I was wondering if any of you had any recipes for this, like tea soap or oatmeal soap, but only organic please! Thanks!

Answer
The idea of homemade organic soap is great. I am not really sure if this qualifies as a good answer, but it can help clean your skin and make it feel smooth. This is another organic homemade idea which is excellent for exfoliating old skin cells and leaves skin feeling refreshed and silky smooth. That is homemade body scrub.

Sweet Sugar Body Scrub Recipe:

Oatmeal is ideal for oily and skin. It's also hypoallergenic, so this recipe is ideal if you prefer a gentler homemade body scrub for your sensitive skin. I got this recipe on http://www.savvyhomemade.com/homemade-body-scrub.html (This site is full of homemade organic health and beauty tips and articles.)

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 tablespoons ground oats
2 tablespoons aloe vera gel
1 tablespoon honey
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon olive oil

How to:
Grind the oats in a food processor until they have a sandy consistency. Mix oats with the rest of the ingredients until they resemble a paste. Apply your body scrub on moist skin after you've gently cleansed first. Rub gently into your skin using a circular motion and rinse off with warm water when you're done.

What are some good ideas for homemade Christmas presents?

Huliganjet

This year we are a little tight on money, because we are having our baby sometime around Christmas (He's due December 21st!)

What are some cheap and easy ideas for homemade Christmas gifts for my family and friends?

I'm going to have a lot of free time due to maternity leave, so I thought this would be a good way to save money and keep myself busy!

If you suggest cookies or any kind of food...what kind? Please share your recipes if you have any :)

Thank you!

Answer
A few years back, I made my own scented body scrubs for the women I was giving gifts too (since I'm not sure too many of the guys I know would groove on the idea of getting them).

I used sugar or salt and mixed it with Olive Oil (not Extra Virgin because I find that it smells a bit too "fruity" and not neutral enough). I then picked up some essential oils at the health-food store and added a few drops to each batch until I could smell it without it being too strong. As I recall, I got some citrus, lavender and peppermint oils.

I was lucky enough to find some wide mouth jars with cork lids at the local dollar store. I filled them with the scrubs, put the cork in the top and covered that with a pretty piece of cloth tied with some raffia.

Everyone I gave them too absolutely LOVED them and raved about them. I searched the internet to find some variations in recipes but I ran out of time to try them all!

The RecipeSource.com web site has a list of Home-Made Gift ideas: http://www.recipesource.com/misc/non-food/gifts/ as well as Hair & Body recipes: http://www.recipesource.com/misc/non-food/beauty/.

Good luck!

Is their a difference between a garden snail and a brown garden snail?

Amy Lovey

I'm doing a science project on garden snails and i found some information that brown garden snails are used in skin care products do u think that i can still use that information.
thanks :)

Answer
"Garden snail" is a general term that includes several hundred different species of terrestrial snails. "Brown garden snail" is more specific, but could still be applied to several different species, and probably is applied to different species in different localities. If you really want to pin down what snail they are talking about, you should try to find the scientific name.

Okay, I found a couple of sites that show a picture of the snail they are talking about:

http://www.ehow.com/facts_5711009_snail-cream.html

http://tkost-beauty.blogspot.com/2011/12/natural-skin-care-using-snail-serum.html

I can see that this is the same snail that escargot is made from, scientific name Helix aspersa.

Here's an article about that snail: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helix_aspersa

Why does the skin on the back of my thighs look like chicke skin?

Abbey love

My skin has been like this for maybe even years, so nothing to worry about I am curious. Also in between the chicken looking skin (before the chicken is cooked) I have a few larger bumps, and I continue having those bumps down the insides of my thighs to my knees. Thanks and God bless.

Answer
It's cellulite. Don't worry about it. It's not the most attractive thing around, but most women have it. it has nothing to do with weight. Women of all sizes have it. There's not a lot you can do about it. There are all sorts of "cures" out there, but they're all basically BS. You can just rub it away or put creams on it, and it will magically disappear. Surgery could probably take care of it, but then you have weigh the risks of surgery versus how much you hate the looks of it.

Here are some links to read up on it:

What can I do about the scar from my corticosteroid injection?

sweetsweet

Last summer, I had a terrible case of poison ivy. I went to a prompt care center for treatment whereupon the doctor gave me a corticosteroid shot in the buttocks. Now, I have a depression in the skin about the size of a quarter in diameter and approximately 1/2" deep. My internet research tells me it is "subcutaneous atrophy." It is making me feel very self-conscious when I am with my husband. Is there anything I can do about it? I read something about saline injections clearing it up, but I'm not sure if that applies to this situation. Is it something that will go away with time? Any advice from doctors or others with this experience is appreciated.

Answer
If you're really worried go see a plastic surgeon. perhaps colloid injections might help.

How much does it cost to go to the Emergency Room for an ankle sprain?

DocOnTheRu

If you have been to the ER or an Urgent Care center for an ankle sprain or other similar injury, what was the final bill with the doctor fees, x-rays, emergency room charges, braces, crutches, etc?

I have heard of some pretty ridiculous charges from the ER, and I am wondering how outrageous the costs really are.

Patients also often ask me this question and I am wondering what people's experience is with the bills they receive from the emergency room. What was your TOTAL Emergency Room bill?

Thanks!

Answer
How about some stitches?

ER, total bill before insurance $1500ish
Urgent care- TOTAL for office visit, stitches, prescription, tetanus shot. $65.

We try to avoid the ER like the plague. In the first case, we were just grossed out because he had an avulsed flap of skin that kept waving around in the breeze. Sadly, the Urgent Care place was closed.

Are there affordable skin care products that won't cause cancer?

I recently discovered that many skin care and hair care products can cause cancer. I am trying to lead the healthiest lifestyle I can and I was wondering if there are any organic or natural products out there? Also, I am very much so on a budget, so any websites that are inexpensive or any "do it yourself" style recipes for home, would be great! I am looking for all types of products from skin care, to shave gel and toothpaste and shampoo:) Thanks so much in advance!

Answer
No one really knows what causes a particular individual to get a particular cancer. It is not necessarily skin care. There are a lot of factors involved.

However, at the same time, there are a lot of skin care products with ingredients that are perhaps not as harmless as we would like.

A great resource is the Skin Deep Website at www.cosmeticsdatabase.com which lists product ingredients and rates them for safety. Companies who sign up to join the Campaigh for Safe Cosmetics agree to submit their products to this site for assessment. There is some great information there that will help you to choose your products.

What do you think is a good amount for a college budget per month?

I think I'm spending wayyy too much money every semester so I'm trying to figure out what an average budget would be. I'm only talking about a budget for food (no meal plan!), toiletries, entertainment, basic necessities, etc. Not for gas or utilities or books or anything like that.

Answer
I would make a plan, break it down by months, list your expenses and plan from that. Try putting a couple hundred into savings too....maybe create a "just-in-case" fund.

You might want to consider using coupons for food and health & beauty items (HBA). You can find coupons in the Sunday paper (Smartsource & Red Plum inserts) and you can find printable coupons at www.smartsource.com and www.coolsavings.com

By shopping at stores like Target, Walgreens, Rite Aid they will take their own store cpn from either the Easysaver catalog/store ad (both found in the front of the store) and a manuf. cpn found in the Sunday paper.

By using both cpns and shopping at Walgreens its been months since I've had to pay any $ for HBA items.

Depends on your city and your campus but look for free entertainment. You can get dvd rentals for free at the public library and Redbox rentals have a free movie code on Mondays.

How long does a Dominican blow out last on natural hair and does it damage hair?

My daughter has naturally natural afro hair, never had any perms or chemicals in her hair. Now she wants a Dominican blow out, but i don't know if i should let her? Does it damage hair?

Answer
I do not recommend them. Last about 3-4 months. They're not permanent, that's $300 - $800 each time you get them done. One I responded, she had hers done in March and that was May when she posted it? It is a billion dollar business, and they do not give money back guarantee for damaged hair or hair loss due to 'abuse', in this case, cancer.

Hair straighteners are known as hair relaxers, keratin treatments and hair-smoothing products. They work by breaking and reforming the chemical bonds in keratin, which is the main protein that gives shape to each hair.

> > > > BRAZILIAN BLOWOUT HAD BEEN BANNED by the Food & Drug Adm. Sept. 12, 2011.

Google: keratin treatment warnings. About 1,980,000 results (0.17 seconds) 1-23-12. and Google: Lawsuits Brazilian Blowouts. About 1,010,000 results (0.24 seconds)
Five months ago, the federal government put out a hazard alert about the hair-smoothing treatment, Brazilian Blowout etc. warning that it contains liquid formaldehyde that can turn into formaldehyde gas when heated during a treatment. Now, the company's bottles of solution carry a warning label to alert stylists to the potential formaldehyde risk and the need to perform the treatment in a well-ventilated area. The manufacturer said Monday (3-6-12) that it had agreed to settle a class-action lawsuit for about $4.5 million.

Hair-straightening products are allowed to contain small concentrations of formaldehyde (0.2 percent). But several hair-straightening solutions have been found to contain well above the allowable limit. For example, one popular hair-straightening product that advertised itself as âformaldehyde-freeâ actually contained 6.8 percent to 11.8 percent formaldehyde.

BTW: A variety of hair-straightening products used in professional salons can expose both hairdressers and their customers to formaldehyde. The results show that three professional hair-smoothing treatments labeled "formaldehyde free" can produce the cancer-causing chemical at concentrations above the occupational exposure limits set by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. They tested four products: Coppola Keratin Complex Blonde Formula, Global Keratin Juvexin Optimized Functional Keratin, La Brasiliana Escluso Keratin Treatment with Collagen, and Brazilian Blowout Acai Professional Smoothing Solution. While ChemRisk tested four popular brands of hair straighteners, there are hundreds on the market. Nov. 11-11

By contrast, beauty salon owners and stylists generally lack a scientific background and don't have a keen awareness of the danger of working with products that contain formaldehyde, experts say.

Chemicals can enter the body through the skin.

Is it okay to use conditioning treatment twice a week?

Aryeah

I am planning on alternately using the Conditioning Treatment Wax and Extra Shine Treatment Wax interchangeably.

Additional info:
I have thick but recently relaxed Asian black hair. I will be applying bubble hair dye on it in a few days. Thanks in advance!

Answer
I'm Asian, and I don't use treatment on my hair.

Washing less often, builds the natural oil your hair needs, to get them smoother, shinier, silkier, softer. Man-made products are just temporary, until you wash them again, and at the same time washing off the natural oil your hair NEEDS. Hair products just absorb on your hair if they're dry, like a sponge.
Jessica Simpson have figured it out, she said she wash her hair every week. She used to abuse her hair, then start selling hair extensions because her hair starting falling from all the chemicals, but she woke up and found out how to keep her hair healthy AGAIN.

The hair industry is a billion dollar business, they sell products that cleans & condition the hair. They also sell products that damage and causes hair loss. They also DO NOT give money back guarantee for damaged hair or hair loss due to 'abuse'. Mechanical, chemical, or thermal styling. Hair straighteners and relaxers top the hair products pose the greatest risks. Hair relaxers, related products marketed heavily to African-American women, are dangerous because they may contain powerful chemicals such as lye, a toxic substance also used in drain cleaners.

The ONLY thing you should be doing to your relaxed hair is:
Shampoo & condition the hair as usual, every 4-7 days, but continue to trim off the damaged hair, allowing new growth to take over. Use GENTLE shampoo. Applying a small drop amount of oil to wet hair can also act as a leave-in conditioner and provides excellent conditioning in preparation for the next shampooing.

As long as you continue to 'abuse' your hair, your hair will not improve.

Sept. 12, 2011.

Google keratin treatment warnings. About 1,980,000 results (0.17 seconds)

Past users of the product have complained of sore throat, skin irritation, headaches, chest pain and rashes, among other symptoms. That may have something to do with the fact that the levels of formaldehyde found in the product rival those typically used in funeral embalming. Thatâs a lot of formaldehyde.
Reps for the company swear itâs all a misunderstanding. And the product labels itself âno formaldehydeâ and âformaldehyde free.â The company has until September 12 to get its affairs in order, or risk having its product seized by the FDA. âWe have been tested countless times by OSHA,â the companyâs CEO Mike Brady told NPR. âAnd we have never exceeded a safety standard ever.â Right now, they are fighting with the FDA, but will continue to give what customers want,. Buyer beware!

Chemicals can enter the body through the skin.

i need to lose 5 kellos at least but i can't because i'm always hungry! seriously i have to decrease my appetite:( please anything i don't care!

Answer
Yes, you need to shrink your stomach by eating less. A good diet/exercise plan would be:

Breakfast: Cook 9-grain cereal (from health food store) in water with rolled oats and wheat bran. Make a big pot of it on weekends and nuke 1/2 cup each morning. Add low fat milk or yogurt, banana, walnuts and berries. Drink hot Ovaltine. Breakfast should be your largest meal of the day to raise blood sugar level which falls during the night.

Lunch: Egg, tuna or turkey ½ sandwich on whole grain bread with bean or alfalfa sprouts and yogurt w/fruit. If you had meat loaf for dinner, bring a meat loaf sandwich on whole grain bread (NO mayo). On cold days, a squatty thermos of hot chili, split peas with ham, or beef stew.

Snacks: Fresh (not canned) fruit: banana, orange, apple, kiwi, grapes, peach, nectarine, cherries, pineapple. No chips and nothing ever from a vending machine.

Dinner: salad with white meat chicken and fresh (not canned) veggies: tomatoes, 2 kinds of lettuce, 2 kinds of shredded cabbage, shredded or sliced carrots, alfalfa or bean sprouts, zucchini, green or red peppers, hard boiled eggs, brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, tofu, cottage cheese...Instead of dressing, squeeze 1/4 tomato over it.

Or homemade bean/vegetable soups; great way to recycle leftovers.
Or grilled fish with steamed veggies.

Or omelet: In blender, whip together eggs, tofu, cottage cheese, onions, garlic powder. Cook with mushrooms, chopped tomatoes and green or red peppers.

Foods to avoid: junk food, fast foods, pastries, desserts, sugar, salty foods, syrup (even canned fruit in syrup), peanut butter, fat/grease (pork, wieners, chops, bacon, salami, pizza, chips, fries), pasta, potatoes, white bread, rice, canned veggies, ice cream, soda, chips. And of course no tobacco or alcohol in any form. Both of those add wrinkles and destroy your brain. No oil except olive and mac nut. Coffee also rots your brain.

To keep your skin clear, drink water. Veg. juice is good too. But not canned juice (too much sugar.)

Join a gym; they have all the equipment and staff to show you how to use it to get the look you want to achieve. Much cheaper than buying your own equipment. Go hiking, biking, jogging, bowling, swimming, rowing, jump rope, play tennis, badminton, volleyball, soccer, jumping jacks, lift weights, trampoline? To tone your tummy, do sit ups, push ups, pull ups, leg lifts, butt raises and crunches.

If you lack energy, take Super B complex. Try appetite suppressants.

I have tried lots of diets and eating life styles and my lastest one is being?

I'm a female starting college this fall and can't find a good magazine I want one that has fashion and beauty tips and health advice. The ones I see are for younger like 12-17 and then other ones I read are for 25-40 years old.

So what is a good or some good magazines for someone my age?

Glamour and Allure are the best I'm 23 and I subscribe to both.

What are the best features to look for in a mate?

There is a very high chance that the children will be healthy if the parents are healthy. And also a good chance the kids will be good looking if the parents are good looking. However is there any evidence intelligence is passed down?
So is it Health , then looks and then smarts?
I am not looking at relationship value but what we can endow the kids with

Answer
I look for the whole package good proportions, athleticism, good looks (subjective), above average intelligence (subjective to a point). I think that a positive environment does wonders for children and can foster good habits and higher intelligence (most brain development and growth takes place during the early years). I also believe that relationship value is a very important part of a child's well being and mental, spiritual, intellectual and even physical well being.

I know that a lot of people will be offended but I firmly believe in a 2 parent household with a strong male & female parental support structure. It just works better than a single parent home or other variations. From my observations those who come from single parent homes in my experience always have some sort of issue. There is of course exceptions to every rule and some in these situations excel regardless and I'm glad for this so that all people have a chance to improve.

LOVE IS A VERY POWERFUL FACTOR IN A CHILD'S DEVELOPMENT MOTHER TO FATHER & PARENT TO CHILD!!!

Would you listen to a t.v. advertisement or to your doctor more?

Rachel

If you would choose between two health care agencies, one referred by your doctor, and one you saw on a television advertisement, which one would you choose?

Answer
Neither one because both of them have a financial interest in their answer. Do your homework and research everything. You simply cannot just trust what these people in the medical industry tell you at face value. You have to dig and learn from every source you can find. Sorry, but that's the reality of what is going on today.

Drug companies are lying to people and doctors are believing the lies from drug companies. Iatrogenic (doctor induced illnesses) are the Number ONE killer of Americans today more than any single major disease, including heart disease, cancer, diabetes, stroke, etc.

In July 2004, Gary Null Ph.D, Carolyn Dean M.D., N.D, Martin Feldman M.D., Debora Rasio M.D., Dorothy Smith Ph.D. wrote a paper that revealed very disturbing facts regarding an annual iatrogenic (induced inadvertently by a physician or surgeon or by medical treatment or diagnostic procedures) death rate of 783,936 in one year. It is further disturbing to realize that as few as 5 percent and only up to 20 percent of iatrogenic acts are ever reported. This means that that iatrogenic death rate of 783,936 is much higher.

As we look at the causes of death from degenerative diseases and other causes in America in 2004, it is obvious we are not good at solving this problem on any level. Deaths from: Heart Disease 652,000, Cancer 553,000, and Stroke 150,000.

When comparing the iatrogenic acts of modern medicine in America with the statistical numbers of people dying of any particular disease, it is evident that the American medical system is the leading cause of death and injury in the United States. And when we look at the cost of these iatrogenic deaths, the cost is in the billions.

A definitive review and close reading of medical peer-review journals, and government health statistics shows that American medicine frequently causes more harm than good. The number of people having in-hospital, adverse drug reactions (ADR) to prescribed medicine is 2.2 million. Dr. Richard Besser, of the CDC, in 1995, said the number of unnecessary antibiotics prescribed annually for viral infections was 20 million. Dr. Besser, in 2003, now refers to tens of millions of unnecessary antibiotics. The number of unnecessary medical and surgical procedures performed annually is 7.5 million. The number of people exposed to unnecessary hospitalization annually is 8.9 million.

Once you've been exposed to the seedy underbelly of the drug businessâthe LEGAL drug businessâyou can't but realize that we're dealing with a very large group of criminals and felons. There's really no nicer way to put it.

GlaxoSmithKline who makes many drugs for Americans will pay $150 million in criminal fines and $600 million in civil penalties.

Several of the company's drugs were adulterated at one of the company's plants between 2001 and 2005, including the antidepressant Paxil, the skin-infection ointment Bactroban and the anti-nausea drug Kytril. The worst part of this story is that Glaxo new the problems existed and did not correct the problem. The people they sent to correct the problem reported it and were pushed aside.

good luck to you

I thought this would be the most absurd movie, but I loved it. I laughed, I cried,,,,, I found myself wishing that I lived in such a caring community as Lars. Any other opinions about the movie? Loved it/hated it?

Answer
Thumbs up.

I agree with you. A very strange premise, and it does occasionally veer off the path, but it works often enough to make its point. Ryan Gosling is *great*. Ultimately, the fact that I'm still not certain if the town was supposed to be expressing "Christian charity" or simply "playing along" is a good thing. Anyway, very definitely worth an evening, particularly if you are one of those who complains about the lack of "positive, uplifting" stories. Even the hardest cynic will find something to smile at.

The tomatometer 80% is perhaps slightly high, but only slightly. It might be right on the nose too.

Here's a review that I agree with.

'Lars' is full of real heart
By JANE STEVENSON - Sun Media

It would be easy to dismiss the new indie comedy-drama, Lars And The Real Girl, as nothing more than quirky provocation.

The seemingly outrageous film is about a lonely, smalltown social misfit (London, Ont.'s own Ryan Gosling) whose new girlfriend turns out to be a silicone sex doll he bought off the Internet.

The movie's real conceit is that Lars' family -- his brother Gus (Paul Schneider), his pregnant sister-in-law Karin (Emily Mortimer), and the entire town (including shrink Patricia Clarkson) go along for the absurd ride and accept Lars' delusional galpal -- who he's named Bianca -- as one of their own.

In the wheelchair that Lars buys for her, Bianca is taken to parties and Sunday church, has her hair cut, and even runs for the school board and volunteers at the hospital.

In real life, the 27-year-old Lars, who lives in his brother's garage and is afraid to be touched, would likely be dismissed as the town loon.

But in director Craig Gillespie's second feature film, the clever, ultimately moving script -- penned by Six Feet Under's Nancy Oliver -- overall delicate, sweet tone, and uniformly fine performances lift the movie above what could have been a creepy premise.

Ultimately, it's about unconditional love and kindness.

It helps that there is no sexual component to the Lars-Bianca relationship, with the church-going Lars insisting that the equally religious Bianca, a half-Brazilian-half-Danish orphan raised by nuns to be a missionary -- yes, she has an incredible back story -- stay with his brother and sister-in-law in their spare bedroom.

It is Karin who actually sneaks a peek at Bianca's "anatomically correct" private parts one night and snickers at the fact with her girlfriends.

Still, sometimes you don't know whether to laugh or cry, given Lars is definitely suffering from mental illness.

As Karin and Gus clumsily attempt to wash Bianca in the tub one night, she says: "It's hilarious," to which Gus responds, "Is it?"

Gosling, an Oscar-nominee who knows how to play everything from misguided monster (The Believer) to love-lorn soldier (The Notebook) to well-intentioned junkie (Half-Nelson), is the perfect guy to inhabit the sweater-and-tie-wearing skin of the emotionally wounded Lars.

A blinking, shy sweetheart of a man-boy, his pain and heartbreak is palatable onscreen, whether he's insisting his sister-in-law cover up with a handknit blanket made by his late mother or awkwardly trying to bowl with a female co-worker Margo (Kelli Garner), who clearly has a crush on him.

Even his interaction with Bianca is thoroughly human. There's one vulnerable scene in particular where they are alone in the woods and he sings L O V E in a high-pitched voice from atop a tree house that has to been seen to be thoroughly appreciated.

Also eminently watchable are Schneider as Gus, who blames Lars' problems on himself for leaving his younger brother alone with his grief-stricken father, Mortimer as the warm and welcoming Karin, Clarkson as the understanding and patient psychologist and Canadian actress Nancy Wright as the kind and elderly Mrs. Gruner.

Various Northern Ontario towns in winter also substitute nicely for the stark American Midwest, and the film gets an added bit of edgy coolness from its soundtrack, which includes the Tom Tom Club and Talking Heads, and thrift-store costumes.

(This film is rated PG)

I can't get anywhere with my Doctor and I'm really frustrated, please help! (sorry its long)?

Gracie

For about 3 years now I have been having increased health issues and I'm not getting anywhere with any doctor really, I have switched PCP's 2 times already. So this is the story:

I am a 27 year old female and I am always tired, cold, I have no appetite, and I am ALWAYS thirsty. I drink lots of water and have cut out soda and coffee (not easy when all you want to do is sleep) . My memory I'm pretty sure is shot, my husband is always telling me about how I've forgotten something or reminding me things. I even show up places at the wrong time because I forget what time I'm suppose to show up. I have to write everything down or I WILL forget it. I can't wear my contacts anymore because my eyes are too dry and its painful to wear them. When I was younger I always had heavy periods and they would last up to 2 months at a time, they finally made me get an IUD to try and prevent me from getting them.

Over the past 3 years I have basically gained myself in weight, and I started out thin at about 160 pounds and now I am just under 300, when I try to workout it doesn't take long until I get to that anaerobic point where my muscles feel that they have been pushed to their limit. My doctor thinks I am depressed and has put me on antidepressants for 3 years now, I am currently on 4 different kinds (yes all at once) and I still feel like crap, I have lost my life. I can't go hiking with my dogs, back pack camping with my husband is out of the question. I can no longer play softball. I'm sick of this and I just want my life back before I hit 30. I want kids too, but with how I only want to sleep I don't see how I could take care of kids.

My husband is always trying to get me to eat meals with him, but I am hardly ever hungry and my doctor just doesn't see this as a problem because I'm so heavy now. I'm also losing my eyebrows, my finger nails are constantly breaking and chipping, and my skin is so dry and painful. I have never had acne as bad as I do right now. I have it all over my body. I love my husband but I have no desire to be intimate with him anymore.

We are expecting cold weather here soon and I'm dreading it because its 60 degrees F here today and I'm freezing, I have my winter clothes on already. I used to ski and do cold weather stuff all the time and now I can't even imagine being outside when it is below 50 because I just shake. I have been checked for diabetes and I have no signs of that, or any other issues based off labs. My Uric acid was high and my thyroid levels have changed and gone up since last year, but it is still normal. I have no idea what to say to my doctor anymore to get them to listen, if you know anything it could be, or any words of advice, please let me know! Thanks!
I was just checked for diabetes last week and get checked regularly for both diabetes and thyroid due to family history. Diabetes labs have always been normal. My thyroid lab is the only one that keeps changing and the number keeps heading towards the Hypo side, which concerns me because my husband and I have discussed children, but obviously thyroid disease may prevent that and being exhausted all the time would make that very difficult.
Thank you July, I should have mentioned before (but I forgot to put it in there) I have seen an endocrinologist and I got nowhere with her either. Another thing is that my fingers are swelling so much so that I actually had a rather difficult and painful time getting my wedding band off and I can't get it back on. I honestly feel stuck and I don't know what to do...Thank you all!

Answer
"my thyroid levels have changed and gone up since last year, but it is still normal." Dont count on it!!!!

READ CAREFULLY:
You need testing for thyroid ANTIBODIES as well as TSH. TSH ânormâ should be .3 â 3 (w/ most feeling best at < 2) but, for diagnosis, would not matter if ANTIBODIES are present. Indicative of Hashimotoâs Autoimmune Thyroiditis (cycles between hyper & hypo at start)â¦main cause of HypOthyroid & is worse (...OR Graves Disease - HypERthyroid).

WARNING: Doctors seem not to want to find/treat thyroid disease. You may have to go to more than one doctor before you get the right tests, interpretation, and treatment. Best wishes.

YES, YOU MAY NEED TO GET ANOTHER DOCTOR!!!! Not at all uncommon when it comes to thyroid (altho it is epidemic now).

suddenly i have a lot of pimples on my cheeks?

Elephant

Hi everyone.
I'm a 16 years old girl.
2 years ago I had a lot of acne, but the last months it all cleared up,
Yesterday I woke up and suddenly my left cheek is ful of pimples! about, 10-20 of them..
What is the cause of this and how do I get rid of it?
The rest of my face is pimple-free..
I can seriously cry now, because it's so noticable and red :(

Answer
There could be a number of causes.

Whether you recently changed a brand of skincare or makeup, your normal sleeping routine changed or even something you ate or you changed the amount of water you usually drink every day. Stress also plays a big factor.

It also depends on you skin type.

If you have very oily skin, in a lot of cases it's because your body is trying to keep your skin moist due to lack of moisture, which causes oily skin, which can get dirty and grimy if not dealt with properly, and thus pores can get clogged up. Using an oil-free moisturizer not only lessens the oil on your skin, it's also good for preventing future pimple and acne problems.

For very dry skin something like vaseline usually works just fine.

The remedies that helped me get rid of my acne and I still use as a prevention method:

-Add a teaspoon of lemon juice, and a teaspoon of honey to a cup of hot water, and drink in the morning before eating anything (and preferably wait a few minutes before eating too.) That gets rid of some of the toxins inside that tend to cause acne and pimples, and is a good detoxing remedy too.

-Using Dove beauty soap (the one with cucumber seems to work best).

-Drinking a herbal tea called 'Rooibos', which comes from South Africa (and works well as medicine as well).

-A hypoallergenic lotion and cream with olive oil in it, in the 'Olivia's Olive Oil' range, also from South Africa - http://www.reitzer.co.za/product_view.asp?ProductID=50

-And making sure I'm drinking enough water every day.

-For really quick results you can try putting lemon juice directly on the acne, just remember to use moisturizer afterwards, so you don't dry out your skin and make the problem even worse.

Can you change a nose piercing from a ring to a stud?

Q. I've had my nose pierced for almost two years now, and I think I'm about to be employed at a place that doesn't allow rings, only studs. So I was wondering if anyone has experience with this. Can you switch your nose piercing from a ring to a stud? Or is the hole too big, or placed differently, etc? Thanks.

Answer
Of course not!
Just take out your ring, clean your piercing with Hydrogen peroxide and then replace with a stud of your liking.
Just take extra precaution and make sure you're not allergic to any metals. I'm allergic to fake golds and silvers, and certain alloys, and this will result in a nasty infection. Just know your skin and your piercing and you'll be fine, no special care required.

Why is my star nose ring imprinting in my skin?

Kylah

I recently got a nose ring about a week ago. The person used a gun to give me my ring. She had given me a star shaped nose ring to be placed in my nose. Everything was fine until yesterday, when I noticed that my piercing was actually digging into my skin and making a star imprint. I know that when I take out my pricing, ounce it has healed, that my hole will be in a shape of a star. Should I ask a person who does piercings to replace my ring with a round ring, before this piercing heals? What should I do? I need answers before its too late!

Answer
You need to keep the area clean. Use hydrogen peroxide or alcohol on a cotton swab and clean inside your nostril and outside. Try to rotate the stud after cleaning. It's imprinting due to swelling which is normal but if it's hot, red or inflamed it's infected. Cleaning with alcohol should take care of that quickly.

I have to write a feature article for english that is based on the playwright 'no sugar' set in the 30s and has to be related back to Aborigines in present time. So yeah, what issues still exist today which may be similar or the same as what occured in the 30s or just issues, include references if you can.

eg, Aborigines still dont receive the same level of health care to Caucasions in remote areas.

thanks.

Answer
Well the number one problem in today's society is alcohol. There is a ban up now that forbids them from buying more when they have been caught fighting or breaking the law due to alcohol. Only problem is that they can just get their mate to buy it for them. Most Aboriginals are on the 'Doll' and they get free money from our taxes. I have seen 2 of them that are clean and have jobs. Lots of the teen-aged girls are clean and go to school I got attacked by a group of them when they started on my mate. They drink themselves to death and the women drink while they are pregnant and cause brain damage to the baby. The ones that I see on a day to day basis don't shower. The buses have had to hang air fresheners from the roof so that they don't smell so bad but it doesn't work. They don't have respect for one another or others. When I was walking near a park I saw one of them get ready to throw a type of large hard seed at a white couple who didn't do anything to him or his group. He didn't look too drunk and he was dressed normally I think (don't know if he was bare foot or not) but he stopped when he saw me watching as I walked. When I was in front of him he screamed/shouted something at me and then all his friends laughed. He was trying to scare a little white girl and he got kicks out of it. I don't run around and scare there teenagers, I don't even look them in the eye anymore.
I am white and I know I am going to get thumbs down for my views but I'm just telling you the truth. If you look on youtube you can see a vid with them living in a park. They litter wherever they chose to sleep for the night. They have chances at school just like we all do. I used to go to one of the most expensive schools in Queensland and we had an Aboriginal girl and she was a sweet lovely quiet girl. I respect her. I don't respect people who ask me for money by drumming two stick together or a water bottle on the ground when you can see the redness of his eyes and you know he is just going to spend it on booze. When I was in a dymocks book store just looking at books I was hit in the head by something small and hard and it was a little book. I had seen some kids before and just thought "Oh well, kids must have been playing and it accidentally flew out of their hand, stuff like that happens." It was on the floor and a little light skinned Aboriginal girl with dyed blonde hair no older then 12 looked at us me and my friend pointed and she picked it up and left. We just went back to looking and then I heard a smack in the bookshelf behind us and sure enough there was a little book sitting there that had been thrown. I was like "heh wow surely it can't be those kids." I went back to looking but then I turned and saw through the middle shelf the colour of the little girls shirt and she threw another so I ducked and shouted "OI!" They scampered out of my sight and when I went around the corner they were pretending to look through the military section. No little child would be interested in the military section let alone an little Aboriginal child who probably hates whites. I told them not to do it again and that I would call their parents if they did it again. I went back to my mate and then after a few seconds they walked out towards us awkwardly and said "You don't know my Mum's number." I was shocked. What kind of response is that? We explained that that wasn't the point, they should just throw stuff at people and then they started blaming each other and I just wanted to shake them. I would NEVER have done that to older children. Why? Because I know I would get my butt kicked or at least my mother would take charge and set me straight. But if I laid a hand on the girl I would be dealing with a hate crime more than likely. You know what was just disturbing? The other little girl was wearing make up and had a piecing in the area between her chin and bottom lip. The girl who through the stuff had her eyebrows waxed. I honestly mentally debated if these little girls had a 'sugar daddy'. No child should ever have that done to them. Since I came to N.T I have been assaulted, harassed and attacked by Aboriginal people and I have done nothing to encourage them. They use their race as an excuse. The Government is good for trying to get them into the work force. That is great! Nothing would make me happier then seeing them as equals rather then free loading waste or space and money. I would like to go to school with them and to work with them. I like how some still live out bush but they don't now because of the 'white man.' It's always my races fault. Apparently I get the 'grog' and shove it down their throats when I can't even stand to touch them. I kikilledtheir great grandparents and tried to breed them out. You know who used to beat them when they didn't speak English? Their parents.

Whats with all these people hating on women who are 30 plus?

Pretty Boi

I was on youtube and I was watching a video about women who look good in their 30s and up. There are ALOT of comments saying "its all downhill from there" and "look at those old folgies"...and alot of people saying that in order to look good at 35 you need tons of plastic surgery and makeup...

Why do people hate on women who are above 30 in our culture?

Answer
There's many women 40 plus who look so much better than a 20-year old!! And frankly not everyone under 30 is hot... Many frumps at all ages!! You don't need plastic surgery and make-up tends to make some older than what they are.

Q. Have you seen YouTube beauty gurus in Twitpics and everything? Even if they're joking around, they look gorgeous. And I know that they wear makeup, and they do their hear and everything, and there's also the camera (but they usually have super good quality cameras so I don't think it hides much), but still!
Any tips?

Answer
Take good care of your skin, drink plenty of water, you know the drill. ;) You'll notice that a lot of the gurus work out, eat healthy, have dermatologists, and/or have some sort of unique diet (such as vegetarianism). Now, I'm not saying become a vegetarian or only eat organic foods, but take care of your body. It will pay you back. :)

Oh, and don't wear makeup often. If you must wear makeup, wear light makeup. The gurus put on full makeup for fun, they don't rely on it for everyday use (or so I assume). If they did, their skin would look far worse.

How do I gain more subscribers on youtube?

> Get ideas from other beauty guru videos before you start making your own. You do not have to have a huge makeup collection, but the more videos you make the more your collection will expand. The more views you get the more different beauty companies will send you free products for you to try.

> The hardest thing is getting your videos out there, and not just having them float around lost in YouTube. During the first week you need to market you videos by subscribing to other beauty gurus! Mainly, beauty gurus under 500 subscribers, because most likely they'll subscribe back to you. And there you go you have an added subscriber.

> When you are starting out, message other beginner beauty gurus and ask them to give you shout outs! Huge beauty gurus will most likely decline, but gurus under 500 subscribers would most likely love to, and you'll start a YouTube friendship!

Make goals for yourself about the number of subscribers you get, once you get to 1,000 time will soar! And your videos will start get thousands of views.

> Make a list of upcoming videos: Makeup/Hair Tutorials, Hauls, Makeup Collection, Perfume Collection, Monthly Favorites, Products you love, Products you regret buying, Outfit of the day, Room Tours, girl talk, skin care routine, acne help, and more.

> Remember you are helping people with your videos! You don't need experience to become a guru. It will be awesome if you have it but many gurus have self taught. It is all about sharing your what you know and learn. Knowledge is Beauty. Be willing to try and be willing to learn. It is a nerve racking putting your videos on the Internet.
