1. Is "72 yrs. old" old enough for us to worry about the onset of senility or dementia?

2. Should we be worried possible near-future chemo treatments?

3. What about his heart?

4. If he takes ill, do we really think the clueless beauty queen from Alaska is could effectively run this country. Is she a logical candidate for commander in chief?

5. With a new grand baby for her to raise, a teenage daughter who is a new mom and is depending on her matriarchal guidance, and a special needs child of her own, where will her energy and attention really be?

If 72% of people think they are above average does this mean we aim for people 'out of our leagues'?

Elle En

Apparently 72% of people believe they are above average looking, which obviously can't be right. Discussss

Can't find the exact stat again but here's an article on the topic anyway --> http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/39044399/ns/health-skin_and_beauty/

Answer
I'd rather people (wrongly) think they're above average than wrongly think they're ugly when they in reality look fine. Have you ever hung out with a person with low self esteem before, who always puts themselves down no matter what you say to them? Low self esteem is a bitchh.

What is the best skin care product for and older woman with wrinkles? ?

Labels:

Answer
Much of skin aging is a result of what we put on the face. So many skin products AND shampoos contain harmful, skin irritating, skin aging ingredients.and too frequent, too thorough cleaning harms and ages skin too. Find natural, non harming ones with a Google search and gently clean.
Essential oils will greatly counteract aging. Jojoba, rosewood, lavender, clove, bergamot are all very very beneficial but they will do very little unless properly and thoroughly massaged into skin. I found after much research that quite vigorous massaging with oils greatly combats aging. To do it you need to first tighten facial skin by partially opening mouth about 1", pull lips firmly back against teeth and jut out chin. Virtually tightens all of face. One of main causes of aging is the weakening of facial muscles, which leads to sagging and in turn wrinkling and lines. Just tightening face, exercises and conditions mucscles and combats their weakening. Then holding tightness as you vigorously massage further exercises and conditions
them. You cannot do too vigorously at beginning but as muscles and skin adjusts you will quickly find you can make it more vigorous. Almost immediately you will see skin firming, looking and feeling smoother and tighter and any lines and wrinkles lessening. Skin will also develop a healthy, vital glow and you will quickly regain a considerably younger looking face. If focus massage on wrinkle prone areas like crows feet and massage repeatedly you can greatly diminish lines. Many oils are strong and oily and for massage are best diluted 50/50 with a milder oil like grape seed. Then you will have a perfect natural moisturizer. You do not remove them but simply splash face with water amd dab dry with tissues.
To avoid skin harming (and aging) by sunscreens, first apply oils and apply screen on top. Surprisingly they are equally protective. I often hike in intense sun for hours at a time with just one application and never burn.
I can send you testimonials from happy users of treatment.

HELP! I need some skin care advice for a 34 year old woman, what can you recommend?

jessica

I have combination skin. I am a natural blond with fair skin. Luckily, I really don't have any wrinkles yet except for some starting under my eyes. I am a smoker though and I am trying to quit not only for beauty's sake but my health. I have spent a lot of time in the sun in my life but the past couple of years, I haven't been tanning. I have samples of Estee Lauder's "Advanced Night Repair", Clinique's "Total Turnaround", and Lancome's "Resolution." I like how they all feel. They are costly though and I wonder if they are really worth it or am I just as well off with a cheaper drug store brand? How many times a day should I be cleansing, moisturizing, using anti-wrinkle products, and possibly using a mask? I break out but mainly just around my jaw line. I do have large pores that are constantly clogged! I'd love it if someone could suggest products to use and when to use them. I'm afraid to go to the department store and go to a make-up counter 'cause they (cont'd)
are out there to make commission and I don't want to spend a fortune! I mean, what is a reasonable amount of money to spend on a monthly skin care regime???? I'd also like to get Microdermabrasion but how costly is it now and how painful is it? I have some deep acne scarring. Also, if I wear foundation, should I put products for skin care on underneath the make-up? What is your favorite skin care line? I know some dermatologists have their own lines of skin care products, are there any good ones out there? One more problem, my chest is heavily freckled (well, I guess they are sun spots), how can I help get rid of them or are they permenant now? I'm done tanning. I'd like to try the professional spray tanning but am afraid it won't look real. Have you tried that? SORRY about all the que stions! I'm just worried ' cause I'm getting close to middle age and I want to keep some of my youthful looks like any other woman! THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!

Answer
my wife is 50 she looks 30 i swear to god but mircoderm abrasion is overrated it makes your skin look like dogmeat for awhile. i have gotten my wife collegen injections, microdermabrsion, lasers, botox and none of those work the best thing to do is go to a dermatologist and ask for a chemical face peel at 50% strength for 1 minute the first few time and 2 minutes after about the 3rd time. they last for upto 3 months and only cost about $60-75 they work great with pigment problems, wrinkles, fine lines.

how to clear up acne scars and have clear skin?

Labels:

Ninja_prin

I'm starting college on the 25th and I really want to improve my look my problem is I have super bad acne scars ( I use to pick at my face) =[ anyways I was wondering what will help them if anything also money is no issue so don't worrie if its something exspencive I just need it to work and fast

Answer
I am a Registered Nurse and I specialize in skin care and teen acne.

Your question is very broad and you need to get professional advice. I will explain why it's a broad question!

Your age plays a role! How old are you?

However, acne can result from several factors such an increase in hormone levels. In males testosterone or androgens. In females, androgens respectively. The increase in androgen levels can stimulate the oil glands to become enlarged and thus more oil production is produced. An increased oil production can clog the pores with oil or sebum ( white thick substance) which cause the cell walls of the pores in the skin to breakdown. This process allows bacteria to form and thus breakouts develop.

Genetics may also be a cause. It is a myth that greasy food or chocolate causes breakouts.

However, using make-up sponges that are not changed or washed often can contaminate the pores with bacteria which may develop into acneic breakouts.

If you are a teenager ( which I assume that you are) your hormones play a definite role in breakouts which led to you picking and getting acne scars.

If you have severe breakouts than you might need medication. There are many factors.

The most important thing is that you need products that are AGE APPROPRIATE! Every age group has different products appropriate for them. If you are young than you need milder products as to not dry out your beautiful young skin.

The problem with commercial skin products is that they are manufactured for MASSES OF PEOPLE and are not specifically made for different peoples' needs.

Your skin type is different than mine and your age differs from mine so how is it logical that we both use the same skin product for breakouts. We need different strengths of cleansers and toners. Do you kind of understand what I am getting at?

Here is my STRONG SUGGESTION for you. I refer all my students and patients to this website:

www.aboutyourskincare.com

You need to consult with professionals and on this website YOU CAN ASK QUESTIONS FOR FREE AND A SKIN EXPERT/PHYSICIAN WILL ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS. It would be a shame if you dont take advantage of this free service.

Lastly, they have incredible products for breakouts, acne and acne scarring and they make them specifically for every kind of skin type. That means that if your breakouts are more severe than mine, than while we both will buy the same product yours will have stronger ingredients than mine will.

They have a mild glycolic acid cleanser that's great for your type of skin and also a DRYING LOTION ( I have 3 bottles) that you put directly on your breakouts and the next day it's gone. It's truely magic in a bottle.

A basic guideline for properly taking care of your skin is this ( now if you're a young girl you will need fewer products than this):

Night time:

1. Exfoliate the skin
2. Mild Glycolic Acid Cleanser
3. Mild Glycolic Acid Toner ( cleans off the excess debris and balances the PH level of the skin).
4. Drying Lotion used only on breakouts
5. Moisturizer

Morning:

1. Mild Glycolic Acid Cleanser
2. Moisturizing cream

The above is a standard you may need to only use one or two products. Visit: www.aboutyourskincare.com

As I suggested and click on the ASK FOR FREE section send them an email and you will get free expert skin care advice.

Ladies. What do you think of Mary Kay Skin Care Products?

Q. I went to a Mary Kay party last night, my 2nd one in 4 years. They say the the number one in Skin Care. Do you find it the same as the products in the stores, like Clean and Clear, Neutragena etc. Or is there a difference?
Thanks for the answers ladies. I did buy the scrub, moisturizer and foundation. I will see how it works for me! I just wanted to know if it was my money's worth!

Answer
"the number one in Skin Care"
Actually, the Mary Kay company itself makes no such claim that I can find. That is a common myth that consultants seems to use in their sales pitch. The company's claim is "Today, Mary Kay Inc. is one of the largest cosmetic companies in the world and has acheived a leading-brand status in the United States."

I sell MK because I love the products. There are many myths out there that are used by consultants to help sell products but I feel that if you like the products, you'll buy them, if you don't, you won't and nothing else I say is going to change that.

I just found this in a new "At A Glance" brochure released from the company: "In the United States, Mary Kay is once again the best-selling brand in the combined categories of facial skin care and color cosmetics." Data is based on the most recent industry sales data and actual Mary Kay sales.

Beauty question: microdermabration?

Lindy

I'm getting microdermabration for the first time in a couple days time (I'm 26). I am wondering what to expect, how will my face be immediately after ward, what results can I generally expect etc.

I have some mild acne scars on my neck, nothing severe or crater like, just red marks, will they improve? Will it even out my skin tone at all? How about mild freckles? I have a couple really light ones, but maybe I'll have to get ipl for them?

Answer
There were totally 15 moles / black spots on my face and body before, I tried this mole remover and most of my moles were gone right now. But please pay attention, donât over use in order to avoid getting scar. Hope it works for you too.

For more information, please see the following using methods, it is very useful for unwanted moles, beauty marks, black spots.

BRAND NEW DIY MOLE VANISH WART REMOVER
10 ML Skin Care non-Laser Removal

Usage:
(1) Clean the nevus and the area around it, use a toothpick (do not use a cotton stick to tip or wipe) to mix the liquid and sediment, and then tip a little amount of the mole remover and apply it onto the middle of the nevus. The area would turn to white colour after 1 minute. Use alcohol or water to clean the mole area after 10 minutes (If you tip the amount of mole remover properly, you don't have to clean). The mole would peel off (May help with finger) in 8 to 20 days. Repeat the process again until the mole peeling off if the colour of the nevus is dark. (it is suggested applying the liquid to nevus on hands or legs first to see the results and learn to control the usage before applying the liquid to other areas of the body, DON'T TRY on FACE for the first time!)

Ok
So i have oily skin (gross) but i dont break out alot but when i do they last forever so does andbody have any good ideas of what i could use?
thanks.

Answer
Try products from the skin care lines of Clean & Clear and Neutrogena. They have many many many products for oily skin that really work.

For the breakouts, I've listed some things that may help.

- Clean & Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment. You can get it at your local drugstore [ Walgreens, WalMart, Jewel etc. ] for $7-$8. 100% of people see results by the next day. It doesn't overdry skin and it reduces size, redness, and number of pimples by the very next day. Just apply it to the affected area three times a day, and by the morning of the next day, you will see results. This is the product that I use.

- Toothpaste [ not the gel kind ]. Apply it to the affected area before you go to bed, sleep with it on, and wipe it off in the morning, and the pimple should be gone.

- Avoid touching your face frequently.

- Avoid stress filled places, if this isn't possible, just try to relax, and not stress. Yoga can help relieve stress.

- Drink lots of water.

- DO NOT pop the pimples. It pushes bacteria deeper into your skin, and can cause scarring [ if you already have scarring, try Neutrogena Pimple Scar Peel ( or something like that ) or try Neosoprin. This product is meant to make scars less noticable ].

- Wash your face daily, at least twice. Once in the morning when you wake up, and once before you go to bed at night.

- Wear light foundation/concealer so it doesn't clog your pores as bad as heavier foundation.concealer would, better yet, just don't wear any foundation/concealer.

Skin Care????

Lately with the crazy weather change here in CA, my skin looks and feels very dry (which is odd b/c i tend to have oily skin). I've never had this problem before...i was thinking of using proactive to help my skin....is that a good idea? Are there any other skin care product that WORK?

Answer
Hey there,

Your skin is dry maybe due to the weather changes or it could be that you have combination skin, which is oily at the T zones and dry at other areas.

Proactive works really well for problems like acne because it helps to dry out the acnes fast. I dont think you should be using Proactive now since your skin feels dry. Try a good moisturizer that will help to replenish your moisture in your skin. I recommend Nivea moisturizer for day time use. It's light and won't feel too greasy, it has a nice refreshing scent and keeps you hydrated for 24 hours.

Alternately, at night, use a good night cream to help moisturize your skin as well as repairing your skin while you sleep. I suggest Nivea's night cream with Q10plus. It helps to regenerate your skin and keep it moisturized and supple.

If your skin is dry, I suggest for you to change your facial cleanser too. Get a gentle cream cleanser for dry skin instead. I suggest Clinique's Comforting Cream Cleanser to remedy your dry skin. Normal cleansers might tend to dry out your skin further. Clinique's is specially formulated for dry skin. For more tips to looking after dry skin, please read further at http://beauty-tyrant.blogspot.com/2007/03/beauty-products-for-dry-skin.html

Also, drink more water. Hydrate yourself with lots of fluids to keep your skin smooth and supple. At least 8-10 glasses of water each day. Drink your water periodically so the water is well absorbed into your body. Avoid drinking coffee and tea. They make your skin more dehydrated.

Get a moisturizing facial mask to replenish lost moisture on your face. Use it about 2 times in a month. I recommend a good facial mask like Nivea's Pampering Honey Mask. Leaves your face fully moisturized after usage.

I hope these beauty tips have helped you. I know by following these tips, you can achieve that beautiful supple skin again. Good luck in caring for your skin. For more beauty secrets, please go to http://beauty-tyrant.blogspot.com/2007/03/7-steps-to-beautiful-radiant-face.html

I need help with a career choice?

Labels:

Help! I need help with a career choice. I am 36, my daughter is 18, my husband and I are divorcing. I work with him, he is my boss and I have to find another job. I barely have a High school diploma, it's just a GED. I have struggled for years to try and find an occupation I would be interested in and good at. I thought about massage therapy but I dont think my hands could handle that. I love skin care and esthetics but from what I have seen there is not a lot of money in that. I am a very self concious person and made terrible grades in school. I think I have learning disabilities. I am looking for something with 1 to 2 years of schooling at the most. Our county unemployment rate is awful. I would consider moving out of the county and starting over fresh if I just had an idea what to go into. I just want to make $15/$20 per hour. Any suggestions on what careers are taking off right now? I would consider CharlotteAsheville/Hickory, NC or Greenville/Spartanburg, SC.

Answer
You're on a positive track. Don't be discourage, don't let society limit your abilities. I'll keep this simple and short. Take 1 or 2 courses, 1 being an area you may have interest in; 2 being your course you need to take to get your certification.

Nowadays, college graduates graduate w/a large amount of debt, no guaranteed job for their majors. Most of all, some are plain miserable b/c they're not happy. I know a lot of people that didn't finish college that are making more $$$ than those who have, ( I'm not trying to discourage or minimize the importance of higher education ). Just saying, don't be discouraged in any possible way.

Seek a plan of action, research those 2 cities above online, take these assessment tests ( 2-3 times to make sure ), and don't get discouraged. Get out of the comfort zone, and you'll discover your passions and abilities.

Nobody can tell you what courses to take, even if it pays well. You won't be happy. In the end, you'll be exactly where you started...

Answer
Hi,

Stretch marks or striae (singular stria), as they are called in dermatology, are a form of scarring on the skin with an off-color hue. They are caused by tearing of the dermis, which over time may diminish, but will not disappear completely.

Stretch marks are often the result of the rapid stretching of the skin associated with rapid growth or rapid weight changes. Stretch marks may also be influenced by hormonal changes associated with puberty, pregnancy, muscle building, hormone replacement therapy, etc.[1] Medical terminology for these kinds of markings includes striae atrophicae, vergetures, stria distensae, striae cutis distensae, striae gravidarum (in cases where it is caused by pregnancy), lineae atrophicae, linea albicante, or simply striae.

Child protection services in NSW during 1950s-80s?

Labels:

rainbowsty

Does anyone have any information on the child protection services in NSW, Australia during the 1950s-80s time period?
Eg what system did they have, was it effective? Did the Deparment of Community services (DOCs) exist back then?

Answer
I'm pretty sure DoCS didn't come into existence until the 1980s, as 'Family and Community Services'. Before then there was a child welfare department of some kind, but I'm not sure what its name was.

Regarding how 'effective' the services provided were, it would depend a lot on who was doing the telling.

Welfare services pre-1970s were mostly of the institutional model, with the 'poor' and 'needy' warehoused in huge institutions, often sleeping dormitary style, under the care of all powerful directors or appointed officials.

Recent years have seen a plethora of law suits related to abuse, neglect and mismanagment within such institutions, as the systems were tremendously open to corruption.

It seems very obvious nowadays that the worst types of people would seek to infiltrate such systems, and the fact is they very often did, with disastrous results.

Apart from institutional care, not much was available in the way of family support, certainly no pensions or benefits. If charity wasn't available for the poor, they did without, and if that meant their kids did without, well that was considered sad but inevitable.

Because the husband/father/male was considered to be the head of household, laws relating to women's and children's rights did not really exist. For example, parents were not permitted to kill their children, but child abuse was not a concept people understood at all. If a child was beaten, even very badly, it was thought the child was 'bad'.

Fathers particularly could be quite brutal without any fear, but the case was a little different for mothers.

Single women, especially if they were poor, were liable to have their children removed at any time for 'crimes' such as neglect, which could simply mean having unfinished washing up in the sink when 'the welfare' called around. The child would be shunted off to an institution and may not have ever been allowed to return home.

And for Aboriginal people, the case was even worse. Fair skinned Aboriginal children were regularly rounded up and removed from their parents and placed in institutional care or adopted out to white families. These children were often raised as servants in their 'adopted' homes, and if institutionalised were actually trained for this.

Many older people may remember those times as 'easier' or 'better' as regards child welfare services, but this was at least in part due to the way problems were kept out of sight and out of mind (institutionalising orphaned or abandoned children), simply not recognised (ignoring abuse) or were presented as solutions (such as stealing Aboriginal children).

The NSW State Library would have a lot of information and old records regarding this. I've put a couple of links for further reference.

Best wishes :-)

How did classic hollywood stars get such smooth, clear skin?

Future Cel

I am just curious as to how they got to have such smooth, clear skin. I know that it was sort of before all of the touch up technology we have today. Yet, the cameras and pictures of the time got some major close ups, and they never seem to have a single blemish or imperfection. I am just wondering what exactly it was they used or did skin care wise, or was it just makeup. I'm talking about people from the old hollywood 1940s-1950s ish, like Katharine Hepburn, Audrey Hepburn, Ava Gardner, Lauren Bacall, Grace Kelly, etc. Thanks!

2. Is the "Johnson & Johnson Purpose Dual Treatment Moisture Lotion" a good moisturizer? (Is it even a moisturizer?) If it is not a good moisturizer (if it is one), then what moisturizer do you recommend?

3. What is the best facial scrub to use, to exfoliate my face? I can't seem to find one.

4. If you use a moisturizer that has:
SPF 15

6. Is an eye cream necessary?

7. What's the difference between SPF 15 and SPF 30?

I hope you can answer most of these questions. I'm a beginner at this stuff, and make up, so I would really appreciate it if you'd answer as much as you can. Thank you. :)

Answer
Hi,

If you truly have normal skin, that means you have easy skin. I am so jealous!

Yes, Johnson & Johnson Purpose Gentle Cleansing Wash is a good cleanser.

I say you stay away from Johnson & Johnson Purpose Dual Treatment Moisture Lotion" a good moisturizer. Why? It contain potentially sensitizing preservatives methylchloroisothiazolinone and methylisothiazolinone. These preservatives are better in rinse-off products.

You do not need a scrub. Scrub as a physical exfoliant is not on par with a good gentle chemical exfoliant. Why? Chemical exfoliant provide an even treatment as it unglue dead skin cells. The acid particles are evenly disperse on the area of skin applied. With scrub agents, you have to manaully scrub away dead skin cells and there is no gaurantee you scrub evenly. Who has he time to look in a microscope and see if they got an even exfoliation from scrubbing? No practical.

Try Alpha Hydrox AHA Enhanced Lotion. No fragrance or colorant and very affordable.

But if you insist on a scrub, try Neutrogena Fresh Foaming Scrub or St. Ives Naturally Clear Green Tea Scrub.

If you use a moisturizer with SPF, then that IS your sunscreen. If you want board spectrum sunscreen protection, your sunscreen need to contain either avobenzone, ecamsule, titanium dixoide, or zinc oxide in general.

Toners are NOT necessary. Most toners in the market can dry you out. Why? They tend to contain a hefty amount of alochol that do nothing be "degrease" oil. Too much of it can rip your skin of its natural lipids. Plus, toners in the market tend to have a few or several plant irritants or other irritants such as menthol, pepperment, lemon oil, lavendar, etc. Menthol or peppermient give you that cooling and tingling sensation. menthol function as a counter irritant you can find an anti-itch cream, but you do not need it for daily use. It replace one irritation for another. Why do that? Lemon or levanar oil/extract have research to show some components in them to be phototoxic. Skip the toner! There are very few good ones. Just forget it really.

YOU DO NOT NEED AN EYE CREAM. A cream, serum, lotion, whatever that is good for your body is good for your face and so your neck and your ears and your eyes.

Expensive does not mean better

There is no miracle ingredient. Sorry.

SPF 15 provide about 93% percent of the sun's ray. SPF 30 provide about 97%. Any sunscreen with SPF higher than 30 is going to give you the same as if you apply SPF 30.

Higher SPF just means you get to to speak more time in the sun without getting a sunburn. How much time? That depend on your skin tone. For example, say porcelain skin tone burns in 10 minutes. Then SPF 15 X 10 minutes means you get 150 more before you get a burn. Higher SPF also mean you get increase irritation potential when it comes to synthetic sunscreen agents.

Do not mix moisturizer with sunscreen because you run the risk of diluting the sun protection factor.

If you want a broad spectrum synthetic sunscreen, try Neutrogena Age Shield SPF 55. No fragrance or colorant.

If you want a broad spectrum physical susncreen, try Neutrogena Sensitive Skin Sunblock SPF 30. No fragrance or colorant.

If you have dry or very dry skin in the winter or what not, try Alba Bontanica Very Emollient Sunblock Mineral Protection, Fragrance Free SPF 30 because it has more of an emollient base.

Best wishes.

Skin care help!?

Labels:

Gator

I need some help/advice with skin care. Please tell me anything that's working for all you prego's out there. I'm trying to stay away from the salicylic acid and benzoil peroxide products, but my skin is a wreck! Any product info is appreciated....safe and approved by your doc!

Answer
Pregnancy skin care for pregnant women is really essential; skin care and pregnancy go hand-in-hand. In order to maintain a pregnancy skin care routine, you'll need to focus on the basics of skin care. Follow these easy pregnancy skin care tips.
Pregnancy Skin Care: Cleansing
Start with a gentle cleanser. Dr. Amy Newburger, MD, a Westchester dermatologist, recommends using a nonresidue or glycerin-based facial cleanser. If your skin is ultra dry, then she suggests washing with a soapless rinse-off cleanser that's mild and moisturizing. Wash your face no more than twice a day to prevent overdrying.

Pregnancy Skin Care: Moisturizing and Sun Protection
The most important addition you should make to your skin-care routine during pregnancy (and beyond) is a moisturizer with at least SPF 15, and with broad spectrum protection (that works against both UVA and UVB rays).

Dr. Newburger explains that during pregnancy, elevated hormone levels trigger the multiplication of pigment cells, which can cause facial blotchiness, or "the mask of pregnancy." Using sunscreen daily â rain or shine â is the best way to avoid this discoloration. If you know you're going to be out in the midday sun or at the beach, protect yourself with a sunblock of SPF 30 or higher. Look for lotions and creams with the ingredient Parsol 1789 or Avobenzone on the label.

Pregnancy Skin Care: Acne and Oil
If your skin is oily and/or acne prone, you'll probably experience your worst breakouts during the first trimester of pregnancy. The safest way to treat these breakouts is with a product that contains glycolic acid, alpha hydroxy acid, topical erythromycin (prescription only), or witch hazel.

Generally, most dermatologists don't recommend the use of topical retinoids (such as Retin-A or Differin) or salicylic acid â check product labels for ingredients. While these ingredients haven't been linked with birth defects, when there's no conclusive evidence one way or the other, it's best to err on the side of caution.

Pregnancy Skin Care: Quick and Easy Makeup
When it comes to wearing makeup during pregnancy, stick with the less-is-more philosophy. It's faster and easier. All you really need to put your best face forward are few multipurpose products.

A foundation stick that doubles as concealer is great for covering under-eye circles and blemishes, and for evening out skin tone. Chubby pencils are foolproof for smudging on eyes, lips, and cheeks, and they won't take up much room in your bag. If you're the kind of person who won't leave the house without lipstick, make sure it's moisturizing and contains sun protection. For a polished look, finish up with a coat of washable, waterproof mascara and you're ready for the day.

What's a Good skin care line?

nolyroly12

I have combination oily-dry skin that is acne prone and very sensitive and gets dry and flakey. I know, really bad. I'm looking for a good skin care line (like proactiv. but not dont recommend proactiv :D) Anyone know of a good one?

Answer
Good skin care line, or beauty products are not the answer. They are a billion-dollar business and can do more harm than good, since you don't know what ingredients you're allergic to.

Good SKIN CARE, good genes, and all the healthy foods you eat from Mother Nature.
IF A PRODUCT IS LABELED "ALL NATURAL" OR "ORGANIC," IT'S PROBABLY HYPOALLERGENIC.False
Remember, poison ivy is all natural, too! But you probably don't want it on your skin. It is very possible to have an allergic reaction, or other irritation, from products labeled "all natural" or "organic." For example, lanolin, from sheep's wool, is a common natural ingredient in some moisturizers that sometimes causes allergic reactions.
You may also need to watch certain "all natural" products that contain substances taken from plants. These products may be more at risk for bacteria. Since these products contain no preservatives or have non-traditional ones, your risk of infection may be greater.

EVEN IF A PRODUCT IS LABELED "HYPOALLERGENIC," IT MAY CONTAIN SUBSTANCES THAT CAN CAUSE ALLERGIC REACTIONS.
Good thinking! Question 6b is True!
After all, people are individuals. And there's no telling what any individual may be allergic to. According to the cosmetic industry, "hypoallergenic" means "less likely to cause an allergic reaction." But dermatologists - and consumers who have allergies - know that the word "hypoallergenic" on the label is no guarantee against an allergic reaction.

CHOOSING PRODUCTS WITH THE CLAIM "DERMATOLOGIST TESTED" IS A WAY TO AVOID AN ALLERGIC REACTION OR OTHER SKIN IRRITATION.
Nope! Question 6c is False!
"Dermatologist tested" doesn't really tell you much, does it? It leaves you wondering about things like:
â¢
â¢Did the dermatologist work for the manufacturer?
â¢How many people was the product tested on?
â¢How long did the testing last?
â¢What were the results of the testing?
Any kind of facial wash, you're leaving something toxic behind, it's not a matter of convenience, it's a billion dollar business that can do more harm than good to your acne.

Take a shower everyday, use washcloth to exfoliate and bath & body wash. Hydrogen peroxide does wonders for acne. Visit their website for more tips & other uses. ONLY $1.

Acne medication could worsen what ever allergies you have, so instead of trying out one product after another, you're actually spreading it around.
The less products you use, the better for your skin. Use a bath & body wash like Suave, Irish Spring, Dove Body & Face wash in the shower, use a washcloth. Treat your face like the rest of your body, take a shower everyday or wash your face everyday.

The secret is keeping your face clean and oil-free. I also don't use liquid on my face for anything, and very little moisturizer, not even a dime size. Since my face is not dry. Good skin also comes from your good genes. Increase your fresh fruits & vegetables 3-5 servings per day. And programmed your mind to do this day after day, for the rest of your life.

The beauty industry is a billion dollar business, they know acne is everyone's problem, but instead of saying soap is drying for you, they have to invent an acne product that can worsen the skin as MANY TEENAGERS have experienced during hormonal change, but as you get older those are completely a waste of time & money!

Sometimes just the oil on your face from make up and lotions, even from your hair can travel to your face causing acne to come out. Others, from stress, hormones & diet or foods.

Thank you.

Answer

You can confirm by visiting this site Skin Deep Database and entering Dr Bronner products* (the asterisk is important) in the search box.
Clearly they are the best.

I just bought eminence skin care products, ( cleanser, toner, & moisturizer) is that the three steps on how?

lalala

They're supposed to be put on? Or how often do I put on one?

Answer
Everyone wants to look their best. Eminence LED Light Therapy can help you achieve that goal with skin treatments that can reduce wrinkles, fine lines and age spots, help remove acne, and promote the health of your skin.

1. How does Eminence LED Light Therapy work?
The Eminence LED is the most powerful LED device manufactured for skin care. The system employs photo pulsation technology, working on the principle that skin cells are photoreceptors, light is absorbed by color, and that light generates heat. The light transmits energy through the layers of skin, promoting circulation, collagen production and more.

Men's skin care products?

Labels:

mrmojorisi

I am a 20 year old male and I am looking into male hygiene products, especially for my face. All of the products and their uses are confusing to me. Could someone please explain the various skin care products, their uses, and possible list some specific products for me to consider?

Answer
As a man, you have an advantage with skincare because men's skin tends to be thicker and oilier than women's. Men also typically shave which acts as a form of exfoliation so you are less likely to wrinkle on those areas. With that said, below is what I recommend. I added an example of what I use personally to help guide you but it is by no means necessary for you to purchase those items. I just like them personally because I purchased everything at Target except for one item and they are all relatively affordable. Just make sure you do this twice a day (morning and before bed). I know I am a woman but I recommend all this to both sexes because it will work.

1. Cream cleanser. Use this with absolutely no water. Simply apply all over your dry face in circular motions, avoiding the eyes. You can then rinse it off with water or a damp washcloth but be sure not to use any water when you are first working this on your face. Ex: Boots Botanics Organic Facial Cleanser $7.99 at Target.
2. Alcohol-free toner. Squirt onto a couple of cotton pads and wipe all over your face, avoiding the eyes. Ex: Boots Expert Sensitive Gentle Refreshing Toner $3.99 at Target.
3. Daytime moisturizer and night cream. During the day you need a moisturizer to act as a barrier for your skin to hold in moisture. At night you need a cream that will replenish the moisture you lost throughout the day. Ex: Boots Expert Sensitive Light Moisturizing Lotion for day from Target (don't remember the price but I know it's around $8) and Boscia Recharging Night Moisture from Sephora which is $44. Night creams are more expensive and the right ones are difficult to find. Read the ingredients to make sure mineral oil isn't one of the ingredients for the night cream you choose as that will not penetrate the skin.
4. Eye cream. Use an amount about half the size of a grain of uncooked rice (yes, very little). Rub this between both ring fingers and then gently tap it on the bone surrounding the eye moving all the way up to above your brows. Never rub this all over your eyelids. Eyes age the most and the fastest so eye cream will help prevent premature aging. You should use one even if you are young and don't have wrinkles yet. Ex: Boots Botanics Organic Face Moisturizing Eye Cream $14.99 from Target.
5. Yogurt. Go to the grocery store and pick up a lemon, orange, or pineapple flavored yogurt (make sure the yogurt isn't the kind with fruit at the bottom but is actually that fruit flavor) and then apply it all over your clean face and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. You can then rinse it off with lukewarm water. The active cultures in yogurt will help neutralize the bacteria in your pores so it will help heal any blemishes you have currently and also help prevent new ones. The citric acid from the lemon, orange, or pineapple will also help dissolve the top layer of your skin (just like using a scrub to exfoliate but much more gentle). You can do this every day if your skin is really bad or just 1-2 times a week as a preventative measure.

I hope this has helped but if you have a question, need me to clear something up, or want to know why I recommend each product, please feel free to e-mail me. You can do so through my profile.

Can I use skin care products made for men on my face?

susan15022

I am asking because at a recent trip to the drugstore, I noticed that the men's skin care lines are cheaper than the women's, and yet the ingredient lists read about the same. Can you recommend any products?

Answer
Mary Kay cosmetics have products for men. Velocity would be a good start. Most of the products that are listed, men can use. Even the shave gels that we have, men can use.

Skin is skin and just because it looks like a woman magazine doesn't mean it's all for women. :)

i get all these pump on my arms, like clogged pores in not really had, but annoying and makes me self conscience when i want to wear short sleeves its always read and gross looking

i'm tried faces washes and acne creams and honey[ that i would normally use no my face to cure my acne] nothing seems to be helping me. ideas?

Answer
People suffering from mild or moderate body acne, I heartily recommend the Clear Pores System. Hard to treat cases are better left to a dermatologistâs skills, although ClearPores is certainly up to the task.

The best way to treat acne is to cleanse the skin with a solution containing Salicylic Acid and SD Alcohol 40. The ClearPores body and face washes contain these two excellent ingredients, which are accompanied by the well-known Aloe Vera (to soothe the skin and help the healing process), Dandelion Root and Yellow Dock.

See its official site: http://www.clearpores.com/clicks/clickthrough.html?a=150901

Also...keep your body skin clean every day and be careful not to trigger acne or rashes by wearing very tight clothing or heavy backpacks. If you feel your clothing, backpack or purse is causing you skin problems, then start thinking about alternatives.

newborn / infants skin care?

Blackbeaut

hi i just recently had my son 5 weeks ago
i qot a questuion about his skin
his skin is starting to peel plus he is getting wat looks like a rash around his neck and shoulders ??

Answer
peeling is really normal. My third child did it for weeks and weeks after he was born. Its because they are in fluid for 40 long weeks and the air dries their skin out. Moisturise him with olive oil or sorbolene twice a day to keep his skin supple. You can still bath him daily but don't use fragranced baby washes and shampoos. Plain warm water is fine and then rub him down afterward with moisturiser

It should only take a few more weeks to stop peeling so much

The rash could be from clothes irratating him? Its hard to know with rashes. See if the twice daily moisturising helps and if the rash is worse or no better in a few days take him to the doctors.
You should be seeing the doc at 6 weeks anyway so mention it when you go there

congrats and best of luck

Catholics-is it greedy to have too many books?

Labels:

kay k

I have about 30 books.Im not the brightest so i actually need alot more then that.
I worry/fear though that me having these books that i am now being greedy. Is it greedy to have 30 books?I mean i would give them away if i didnt need them and i read them all.
I would even like to buy more books but im afraid that that that would be greed or something.I would like to buy books on craft, beauty, health, exercise, psychology, art, relaxation, science, medicine, john paull II books and more...
Thankyou
No,im not a troll and no it doesnt imply that Catholics are dumb.

Answer
No of course not..

As long as you actually use those books to read and not as a show piece on a shelf..

I had so so many books, I did get rid of most of them though, I had mostly only novels, as I am actually a bookworm.. Now of late I keep only fashion magazines as it is related to my field of work..
However I can say I am greedy to own 'Book Sposa Moda' an Italian Bridal fashion magazine which is like 41$ per magazine in my country, but also it is very very helpful for me..

Also I do not think it is very greedy to have too many shoes, as I have load and loads.. I get them from my dad and my aunts (all who work abroad) and I can count more than 60-70 pairs of shoes including 15 converse and the rest mostly heels and wedges..
I also give away most of my shoes/used and sometimes even unused to the church and same goes with my clothes..
BTW my sister and me share shoes most of the times as we are the same size, so its own joint collection and not mine alone.

I also have loads and loads of clothes and when I studied abroad in Milan, I gave away about 3 suitcases full of clothes, blankets, shoes and other stuff..

I'm not vain a greedy, I just have a few interests that may differ from others, and I give as I get more..

HELP!?what are good beauty remedy books?!?

nene can d

i want a good all around remedy book but one that also has some beauty techniques in it for example: mixing lemon and sugar is a good face scrub for evening skin tone. maybe one that has recipes or trick getting stains out of clothes and carpet. it does not have to be all in one book but i want it to be a good book and the recipes and tricks really work. the one i have now sucks big time

Answer
There is the Green Pharmacy Guide which might cover some of that.
Just found this also: Jude's Herbal Home Remedies - Natural Health, Beauty & Home-Care Secrets
http://www.bookreview.com/$spindb.query.listreview2.booknew.2793

I suggest borrowing them from your library first in case they are not what you are looking for. You should be able to do that through an inter-library scheme if it is not in your own library. Your local library might have other books also which might have some of what you are looking for.

Good luck in your search.
Peace.

How to clear up bacne?

Labels:

Elle

Hi! So to start my story I'm 15 and started developing acne in 7th grade. It then turned into bacne and I get an occasional blackhead on my chest that I pop and it turns into a pimple. I have been able to keep my chest and face pretty clear as long as i dont mess with it and take off all my makeup at night.

My major problem is bacne. It appears on my shoulder blades the most and inbetween my shoulder blades. Lately I've been applying Terminator by AcneFree and that has really helped, but if I dont then more will come up. Anyways I'm really self conscious and I can cover it up pretty good but I'm always self conscious of wearing a bikini and try to hide it iwth a Tshirt.

Right now, I mostly have a lot of dark spots.

Do you have vitamin, Skincare, or other tips to help prevent? I've heard of getting my hair a bit shorter, or getting proactiv- even taking saltwater baths. I wash daily with facewash on my back and chest and face and take vitamins E, A, Fishoil, D, C and sometimes B as often as I can. (Which is about 3-4 times a week.)
Also, cleaning the area with wintergreen alcohol seems to help.
Btw I wash my face back and chest (I shower) everyday. and wash my face in the morning/night. So, its not hygiene. I've tried various benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid creams. Obviously they arent working that well.

Specific brands and other tips are wanted.

Answer
Elle, Proactiv is great for teen acne and is the #1 seller among acne products around the world because it works. It was formulated as a regimen by Rodan + Fields Dermatologists to treat the acne you see on the surface as well as the irritation beginning under the skin.

However, Proativ doesn't work on everyone, and what you are describing sounds like it might respond better to Unblemish. The same team at Rodan + Fields took their 15 years of knowledge making Proactiv and developed Unblemish for adult acne, cystic acne, and other forms of acne. Unblemish works on the concept of treating the skin--surface and below--but it is an entirely new formulation. If you have adult acne or cystic acne, Unblemish may work better than Proactiv. Unblemish is also great for the dark spots. There is a link in the Sources.

It sounds like you are doing other good things. Washing once a day should be fine unless you sweat a lot due to heat or exercise. You might need to bathe the area twice if you do perspire a lot, but you don't want to over wash, because that can also irritate the skin. Here are 10 tips on reducing acne: http://www.examiner.com/skin-care-in-nashville/how-to-prevent-acne-top-ten-tips-to-reduce-pimples-and-avoid-acne

Check the resources for more info on treating acne.

I would try Proactive first if you are a teen. If it doesn't work or leaves your skin irritated and dry, try Unblemish.

why do white people turn white?

Kenneth Fr

If all life started in Africa and the people were black such as Adam and Eve, then how did white people come about? Was it through Esau or Japheth and where's the proof? Also why are we called Caucasian if we are Europeans rather than a kind of Asians from the Caucus mountains?

Answer
Your skin color and "ethnicity" are two different things.

"The traditional definition of race and ethnicity is related to biological and sociological factors respectively. Race refers to a person's physical appearance, such as skin color, eye color, hair color, bone/jaw structure etc. Ethnicity, on the other hand, relates to cultural factors such as nationality, culture, ancestry, language and beliefs." http://www.diffen.com/difference/Ethnicity_vs_Race

The interesting thing about DNA is that DNA doesn't look at the color of your skin. An interesting article regarding DNA and a family from Appalachia
"NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) â For years, varied and sometimes wild claims have been made about the origins of a group of dark-skinned Appalachian residents once known derisively as the Melungeons. Some speculated they were descended from Portuguese explorers, or perhaps from Turkish slaves or Gypsies. Now a new DNA study in the Journal of Genetic Genealogy attempts to separate truth from oral tradition and wishful thinking. The study found the truth to be somewhat less exotic: Genetic evidence shows that the families historically called Melungeons are the offspring of sub-Saharan African men and white women of northern or central European origin.
And that report, which was published in April in the peer-reviewed journal, doesn't sit comfortably with some people who claim Melungeon ancestry.
"There were a whole lot of people upset by this study," lead researcher Roberta Estes said. "They just knew they were Portuguese, or Native American.
Jack Goins, who has researched Melungeon history for about 40 years and was the driving force behind the DNA study, said his distant relatives were listed as Portuguese on an 1880 census. Yet he was taken aback when he first had his DNA tested around 2000. Swabs taken from his cheeks collected the genetic material from saliva or skin cells and the sample was sent to a laboratory for identification.
"It surprised me so much when mine came up African that I had it done again," he said. "I had to have a second opinion. But it came back the same way. I had three done. They were all the same

Answer
If I were you, I would definitely go darker! Your skin tone is so rich that going lighter would pull out oranges in your skin. Not flattering! But I will warn you, as I have dyed hair, dying your hair for the first time may be stressful! Make sure you use a semi-permanent if you go darker, because the permanents all use a bleach to rough the cuticle of the hair... so if you're going darker, it would be contradicting and damaging to your hair. The day before you go to get it dyed, make sure you pick up color care shampoo! You want to let the dye set for a full 24 hours AT LEAST before shampooing, no matter what you're told! You'll just wash the dye out if you wash your hair too quickly. However, showering and getting it wet it is good. Heat is your friend! Blow dryers, straighteners, curlers, etc, will help seal the color :) Be careful when you shower for the first time: don't towel dry!! It will act like a sponge for the color and just rip it right out of your hair. You can even add some of the dye to your shampoo to help the color last!

I'm just wondering what yall use on your skin? Aka your skin care regime.
I use Eminence Organics.
Thanks for answeing everyone!

Answer
I use Aubrey Organics and Thayers Rose water for toner.

I use pure vegetable glycerin when making homemade masks such as avocado, mango etc.

I use a volcanic ash scrub by Giovanni brand-organic twice a week.

Finally, when waxing face I always use organic aloe vera gel and a little vitamin e or Jojoba oil.

I always use a suncreen and moisturize my lips with burt bees or weleda.

....and there you have it.

Best of luck to you.

What's your skin care routine?

Q. Reason why I ask is because my skin care routine is complicated but it works for me. Took me forever to figure out my skin and how to keep it clear. But I feel like I'm going overboard even tho I only use 3 products. I'm not going to say my routine because somebody always gotta lecture about something and I don't need help. I just want to compare. So What's your morning and nigh care? Is your morning routine the same or different as your night? Thanks for any helpful answer :)

Answer
Hi there! I love answering questions like these! :) As far as products are concerned, here's my nightly/daily/weekly skin care routine, . I only use natural and organic products on my skin!

Morning:
-Wash my face w/ Eminence Organics Mineral Cleansing concentrate.
-Spray on my toner. I use Thayer's Witch Hazel w/ aloe vera toner.
-Apply my serum. I use Eminence Organics Herbal Spot Serum.
-Apply my moisturizer. I use Eminence Organics Sour Cherry Whip moisturizer.
-Apply suncream. I'm using MyChelle's SPF 28 coconut sunscreen.

Night:
-Cleanse
-Tone
-Apply my serum
-Apply my night cream. I use Weleda's Calendula Face Cream.

Weekly:
-Twice a week I exfoliate using a homemade exfoliater. I mix super fine sugar w/ almond oil. It makes a great, gentle, exfoliater.
-3 to 4 times a week I use a honey treatment. I simply apply plain honey to my face, and leave it on for 20 minutes.
-I also use Eminence's Clear Skin Probiotic Masque twice a week.

Any way, that's my skin care routine! It's taken me a while to find something I really love. But once you find it, it's important to stick to it!

I hope I've helped! :)

How do I keep from aging/looking older since I work overnights now?

-----

We all need money and I had the opportunity to be promoted and get a substantial pay raise... Catch is it is an overnights management position.
I go to school 3 days a week, I will have sunday nights off and monday nights off. I work 10pm-7am and school on mondays is from 9am-5pm, WED/FRI is 9am-1pm....
I am only 19, and I could not pass this promotion up. I will be able to transfer to days in 6 months.
In the mean time, I need some help with keeping my baby face. I look about 16/17 and would like to keep it like that.
I now have a bad fear of aging due to irregular sleep patterns or not getting enough sleep since my schedule is now flipped around.
Are there any kind of face moisturizers, creams, foods etc..... I can use that would help me keep my baby face? I'm open to anything and not limited to what is above.
Thank you for your help, It is greatly appreciated :)

Answer
Along with trying to catch up on sleep whenever possible (lack of it DOES cause you to look older and affects your immune system), diet is very important.

Try to get lots of Vitamins A, E, D and K. So that means proteins like fish, leafy green and orange veggies like dark lettuce, broccoli, kale and carrots.

Drink plenty of milk for A and D, or if you can't, then use a Vitamin supplement with extra D in it (about 1,000 I.U.).

You should also eat plenty of fruit or fruit juice, for Vitamin C, which protects your immune system and for anti-oxidants. Dark fruits (blackberry, cranberries and pomegranate) have the most of these.

Your skin (and the rest of you) needs essential fatty acids, (Omega 3's and 6's) like ones in nuts and seeds (flaxseed oil is a good supplement if you have a nut allergy).

Try green tea, as it has selenium, which is also good, and stick to whole grains.

Getting plenty of WATER is really important, esp. for those with sleep deprivation. It speeds the elimination of toxins and "plumps up" cells.

AVOID CAFFEINE or at least avoid it as much as you can. You'll be tempted to drink it when you're tired, but a 20 minute nap will rejuvenate you more.

Also, exercise will boost your immune system and help the circulation, which also helps your skin's health. Try to do this outside as much as possible.

Really good, inexpensive natural/organic skin care and hair care?

Labels:

PianoTeach

I am trying to move toward a more organic lifestyle for my family and my 10-month-old baby. I'm having trouble finding good, natural skin and hair care that doesn't cost a fortune! I don't have $30 for a bottle of face lotion or $25 for a bottle of shampoo, as much as I would like to be able to spend that.

I'm in my late 30s and dealing with aging, still acne-prone skin, and have curly fine hair. The natural products I have tried - just from a trip to the very-limited natural foods store we have in our small town - just don't work well for me. I know there's a transition, but red skin and products that make my curly hair flat and take the curl out really don't work for me.

Can anyone give me recommendations on great products that work well for you? Thanks so much!

Answer
i think it's good a lot more inexpensive to have a regular skin care regimen. In general, if you want to combat aging, focus on both internal and external skin care regimens.

Help me ...... Can u advice to me some good skin care ?

Dia mirza

I am 22years, is it best for me if i use Olay total effect ?Or Which brand will be best for me , me tried Lóreal didn't work to me :(

Help me ........

I want good skin care brand ...........
I am from Thailand , how can i get proactiv brand :( ?

Answer
Well, why would you want to use Proactive anyways if you don't have skin problems? Even if you do, I wouldn't use it, all it does is dry out your skin! You're only 22! I don't think you need Olay total effect! Its like for people in their 30s or 40s. Just take good care of your skin now, and you won't need that at a later age. Just keep you skincare simple. Just wash, and moisturize. I have done many things to my face when I was younger and I wish I hadn't. I switched from one product to the next, whatever was hot or I see in the magazines. It just totally ruined my skin. Don't do the same!
