Book(s) on beauty/health?

Labels:

Kirkylee

What's your opinion on some of these self remedy books and can or would you recommend a good book to me? Thanks!

Answer
Don't bother purchasing books. There is so much information for free online. www.naturalnews.com and www.mercola.com are excellent, trustworthy sources. Byron Richards has a good site too, but I don't know what the URL is. If you type his name into a browser it will come up. It's Health and Wellness Resources, I think.

Using herbs and natural ingredients to make your own remedies at home is fun, easy, time effective, and inexpensive. Items that you make to comfort yourself and your family also makes loving gifts for others.

Lavender Tincture for Stress Reduction

Here is a sweet little tincture to use for stress reduction and to aid sleeping. Harvest time is almost here and lavender plants are just finishing their bloom. If you do not have a plant, visit your local nursery or a friend that is a grower.

You will need

» 5 medium stalks of fresh lavender
» ¾ cup of 90 proof vodka or other clear low-odor 90 proof drinking alcohol

Chop the lavender into ¼ inch strips and gently "bruise" the plant by "hammering" gently wit your fist on a wood cutting board (a mortar and pestle for you pro's). Put the alcohol in an amber or dark glass bottle, then stuff in the cut and bruised lavender. Place the cap on the bottle and shake vigorously for 2 minutes. Set in a cool, dark place for 6 weeks (shake for a minute or so 1 time a week). Strain the tincture from the plant pieces remaining, and then store in a cool dark place. Shelf life is approx. 1 year.

To use: Drop a few drops on your temples or dab on a hankie and place under your pillowcase between your pillow and your pillowcase for sweet dreams.

Has anyone attended the Academy of Health and Beauty in Orlando, FL?

I recently came across their site because I am interested in an affordable cosmetology school. Their tuition was $10,000 LESS than most schools in the area. I was wondering if anyone has an experiences or reviews of the school. Thanks!

Answer
The name of the school sounds like one of those private overpriced for-profit beauty/tech schools. Please consider the more affordable county vo-tech school (or community college) as long as the program is accredited within the industry. It can take the graduate a couple of years to 'get a book' of regular customers before possibly making decent money.

This consumer website has posts about the 'aveda institute' (one of those private for-profit schools) and 'empire beauty': http://www.ripoffreport.com and can search.

This site has posts about 'paul mitchell school': http://www.pissedconsumer.com and can search.

Does anyone know a good skin care product?

Labels:

MbNRobi

I'm a 15 year old girl and I have oily (sometimes dry), acne prone skin. I used the Clearasil: Daily Facial Wash, trying to get rid of the access oil on my skin. Unfortunately, when I use this, I get a weird rash on my cheeks (beside my nose, under my eyes) and my forehead dries out (and my skin starts flaking), forcing me to use a moisturizer that leaves a think, oily residue on my skin. I love the Clearasil Pore Cleansing Pad, but they don't seem to help my break outs. Proactive is to expensive (remember, I'm on a middle class, teenage budget in a crappy economy.) I love the Avon: Pore-Fection Refining mask, but I've run out and I'm having trouble finding a replacement product in stores. (I know Avon isn't sold in stores).

And this brings me to my questions:
Is there a moisturizer that won't leave an oily residue on my skin?
Does anyone know good fining mask similar to the Avon one that is available in stores (Wal-Mart, Kmart, Rite Aid)?

Thanks,
-Beth-

Answer
I would recommend using Avon's Clear-Skin Professional. It targets and treats on the spot and is a great Acne Treatment. People believe in the myth that drinking a lot of water will clear up breakouts, that is false. Water improves skin's hydration but genetic and environmental factors can result in increased oil production, a key contributor to acne. I would recommend the Deep Pore Cleansing Scrub and the Oil Free lotion SPF 15. If you don't have an Avon Representative to assist you please allow me to provide service for you. You can order your items from my site youravon.com/janarussell. I am providing free shipment on your first order. And it only takes less than 7 days to receive your items.

Question about skin care ( face )?

Q. I have very very oily skin ..i have a olive complexion..+ right now ive been using olay deep cleansing face wash with witch hazel << as it says..and ive only been using it for a few days and i am breaking out like i never have before..its embarrising..i have huge pimples, red blots on my skin..and i dont kno if i should wear make up to school or not?

Why is this happening?? is it because i need to adjust to it for a while??

WHAT should i do?? : ' (

Answer
*
Witch Hazel ALWAYS made my skin break out. So did Noxema.

The best thing you can do is to wash your face every morning and every night before bed (without fail).

When my oil was at its worst, I kept a bottle of Alcohol-Free toner in my locker to use in between classes, or you can use Olay daily face wipes --

I know it doesn't make much sense, but it is really important that the product that you use NOT contain alcohol. Even if it cleans your skin, it will over-dry it and your skin will not only be red and irritated, but the natural sloughing off of your skin won't occur, and the extra skin cells that remain on your skin will clog your pores and cause more breakouts!

The most important thing is keeping your skin clean, but you have to be sure not to over-dry it in the process.

Good Luck!

Want to settle in Dubai?

Labels:

I am from Kolkata, India, working as an accounts executive for the last one year and now wish to apply for a job in Dubai. What do i do to get a job in Dubai, as i feel that the online websites for recruitment are not helpful enough in securing a good job. Please help.

Answer
No online portal will be helpful.

You will have to physically land in Dubai with a visit visa and search job there.

Currently Dubai's economy is in a very bad shape as it is totally dependent on the US economy.

A smart person would try to look opportunities in India as India has far more job opportunities and a great social life and a superb natural beauty. Dubai cannot offer you anything except some money and bad health.

What's the best photostock service for female lifestyle magazine?

Vera A

I need to draft business plan for the publishing house I work. Since we didn't use stock photos till now (unbelievable, I know, but we kept using our archives and services like AP and other news photo agencies) I don't now where to start. I need good quality photos for cover as well as for inside pages. Themes are: health, beauty, food etc.

Answer
Legally you cannot use a photo you find on the web with out the photographer's permission.

Stock photography websites contain thousands of existing photographs that can be licensed for specific uses. A customer who uses stock photography instead of hiring a photographer can save time, effort and money. Typically publishers can either purchase exclusive rights to a single image or they can purchase a subscription of sorts. The subscriptions allow publishers to download a limited number of photos over a specified period of time.

Stock photo websites allow webmasters, marketers and publishers to locate pictures for their marketing and promotional materials without the hassle of organizing a photo shoot. With copyright laws businesses must be very careful in using unlicensed photos.

There are also risks to using "free" photographs. Many of the free websites contain collaborative works from multiple photographers and artists. While the websites attempt to monitor the images in their collections in violation of copyright laws, there are no guarantees. If you opt to use photographs or images from a free portal, it is important to keep this in mind.

Here is where you can find some inexpensive stock photo directories:

Skin care products for sensitive skin.?

Labels:

I have a acne-prone skin and the skin care products that I'm currently using are not really helping me and that's why I'm planning on using different products. After I wash my face with the cleanser,my face tends to get itchy and I also have blackheads around my nose area.Skin care products that I'm using right now is a cleanser, exfoliants and moisturizers. But I read in an article, that it is not recommended for people that have sensitive skin to use exfoliants since it was too harsh and abrasive. Can you guys suggest to me any good products that could help with sensitive acne-prone skin?

Answer
honestly, my skin cleared up when I STOPPED washing my face. I know that sounds gross, but I just rinse my face off really good in the shower (not with hot but with lukewarm water) then pat it dry gently with a clean towel. I also use that mineral foundation powder instead of the liquid foundation and my skin stopped acting up so much. When you go to bed, either wash your pillowcase every night or put a clean towel over your pillow. Sleeping on a dirty pillow can cause acne on your cheeks. Also wash your makeup brushes regularly. One more thing. Use NATURAL products on your skin. The chemicals in traditional drugstore cleansers are actually really bad for your skin. Who knows how they got approved.

Good facial wash for sensitive skin?

JERSEY GIR

I have acne prone skin. When taken care of my skin glows beautifully. My skin rejects alot of those products out there. The slightest thing and I get an annoying breakout. Anyone know of a good face wash?

Answer
tips on how to properly care for your skin, from the right way to wash your face, to the best moisturizers and UV protection.

The Basic 4-Step Skincare Regimen

* Step 1: Cleansing Simple is key here. You need to find a good cleanser that your skin responds well to, and stick with it. (I list the best cleansers for skin types in this article ).

Avoid bar soaps as they tend to dry out the skin. According to Rona Berg, in her book, "Beauty," a French cosmetics executive once told her "soap should only ever touch your skin from the neck down." We agree. According to Berg, most cleansers contain oil, water and "surfactants." The oil dissolves oil on your face, surfactants dissolve dirt and makeup and the water washes it all away. The secret is finding the right mix of oil. (Makes sense to us). Too much on your skin will clog pores, while too little will dry it out. This is why you need to know your skin type.

Be careful not to cleanse too often. Washing at night should do you. While some skincare experts swear you should cleanse skin with creamy cleansers that you wipe off with a tissue, never letting water touch your skin (some hard waters are especially hard on skin), we prefer the water method. In the morning, a splash of lukewarm water is all you need (we find it's great for removing excess oils from your nightly moisturizing). Never wash your face with hot or cold water (both can cause broken capillaries). Also be careful about overcleansing skin.

Here's the best way to wash your face: Use warm water to loosen dirt and clogged pores. Use a dime-sized bit of cleanser, then rinse with cool or lukewarm water. You'll also want to take off your makeup with a proper makeup remover.

* Step 2: Exfoliate Exfoliation is the step most people skip in their weekly skincare routine. But trust me, if you start properly exfoliating your skin, you will notice an almost immediate difference. According to Berg, one of the reasons men's skin looks more youthful than women's is because men tend to exfoliate daily when they shave. There are several ways to exfoliate skin: Microdermabrasion, chemical peels and retinoids.

Scrubs work by removing the top layer of dead skin cells that tend to dull your complexion. We find exfoliating skin once a week with a microdermabrasion kit keeps skin glowing year-round. Make sure you use a gentle scrub with tiny grains. Big grains in cheap scrubs can tear skin and cause more harm than good. My favorite microdermabrasion kit is made by Lancome.

In the hour it takes to get a chemical peel, you can take off five years from your face. Can't afford the pricetag for a monthly peel? Try some over-the-counter peels that work over the course of a month. I prefer MD Skincare's.

Retinoids (such as Retin-A) also work by removing the top layer of dead skin cells while also generating collagen in the skin. "Collagen is the skin's structural fiber," dermatologist Dennis Gross said in the October 2005 issue of O Magazine. "As we get older, it breaks down, creating lines and large pores." Skincare experts disagree on all sorts of things, but most of them consider retinoids to be a miracle skin saver.

Should you use a toner? Some people swear by toners, but many beauty experts do not (I once read a skincare expert claim, 'toners are only for copy machines'). Toners are meant to remove all remaining traces of oil, makeup and dirt, but a good cleanser should do this. I firmly believe it's up to you. If you like the way your skin feels with a toner. Buy it. Use it. Enjoy it.

* Step 3: Moisturize While I know of at least one famous beauty editor who swore skin doesn't need moisturizer, basically everyone else I've read disagrees and is an adamant believer in it. A basic law of beauty is that everyone, no matter her skin type, should moisturize. Even if your skin is oily, it will benefit from moisturizers. (The only exception is those with acne). Why? Moisturizers seal moisture into skin (Berg calls this the 'Saran Wrap effect'). So how much should you moisturize? Your skin will tell you. When your skin is tight, it's crying out for moisture. Be careful not to overmoisturize -- this can cause clogged pores. For the skinny on great moisturizers for your skin type, check out this article.

I need to come up with a company name for a new health and beauty products company. The product line ranges from body soaps to hand lotions to various beauty products. More than just your average convenience store brand, something slightly more upscale, yet affordable. Any names you can think of would help. Thanks!

How about something modern day? Like just your first or middle name.

Beauty Salon business?

Grandi

So I own a small beauty salon in a decent neighbor hood (i.e no gangs etc). Business has been slow for a while now. Are there any strategies on how to lure in guests the right/most effective way.

Answer
Baby steps, baby steps. Those who have followed my answers during other Yahoo! Small Business events know my mantra: Never let your small company put your family at risk. While I love entrepreneurs and I love starting companies, I love my wife and kids more. And I would never put them in jeopardy.

So, if your job pays your bills -- and it's a great idea to continue paying your bills -- you need to start socking away funds to follow your business-ownership dreams. Take it as a 2, 3 or 5-year plan. You should create your business plan, which will help you calculate how much capital you'll need to start your company; then take that figure and add 50 percent or more for a cushion. Open a separate business account at your bank or credit union and start the process of building the bizfund.

None of this precludes you from going other routes to raise money as well, particularly asking friends and family to invest. Those funds could go into your bizfund as well, speeding your time to launch.

One last thought: When you are calculating what you'll need to replace in pay for your job, don't forget to include ancillary items like health insurance, Social Security and retirement funding. There is often more to replace than we recognize.

Answer
Okay, I guess I can do this.

Hair - I have blunt full bangs, and short layered bob, shorter in the back, longer in the back. I wash it with Head&Shoulders, then add some Herbal Essences de-frizzing stuff, dry it a bit with my towel, then air dry. I use my CHI straightener to straighten my hair and then blow dry my bangs to give it more volume - some Suave hairspray and then i tease the back, to give it a less scene- but still volume look. More hairspray then comb through with fingers.

Makeup- I have pretty good skin, so I dont use foundation or stuff. I just have lots of eyeliners and eyeshadows - Usually I'll take the NYC brand eyeliner and trace the top and the bottom, sometimes I'll mix it up and do cateyes or something. When I have time, I put on some CoverGirl or Bare Essentials eyeshadow on my lids - and if I feel flirty I use my Colossal Maybelline mascara. Sometimes I'll use my bare essesials blush (best natural makeup ever)

Skin - I dont have much acne and stuff, but I just use Neutragena cleansers, and Clean&Clear spot treatments.

Body - I have an average body, not that toned but not fat. I depend on magazines like Seventeen and CosmoGirl - for all my exersice workouts. Also, I take dance lessons on youtube. Its easy and you burn lots of calories dancing to your fave song online, for free.

Clothes - I have a vintage, scene , elegant style? My shops? Forever21, H&M, charlotte russe, and thrift stores! You find amazing clothes that nobody else has for really cheap prices.

Teeth - I have braces now, but I used to use Colgate Whitning strips - they worked awesome, and I'll use them when I get these off. I floss and brush normally. I love the pro-health toothpaste though. Its amazingg.

Anything&Everything - dont ever wrap your hair in a towel, you lose volume. DONT wash your hair everyday, you lose the natural oils and make it dry and unhealthy . Makeup - keep it elegant and simple, dont play up too much of your face - so if you have crazy eyes, dont wear bright lips, body - as long as you feel good, who cares? clothes - wear whatever you think is cute and comfy, dont matter about brands. teeth - floss, it actually helps.

The end! I'm turning 16 soon, if you wanted to know.

What does your skin care regimen consist of?

Labels:

Macpark

Being gay, I think we take better care of our skin than our straight counterparts do. What do you use?

For years I've used Neutrogena cleanser (either the Deep Clean or the Pore Refining Cleaner). Recently I purchased a cheaper cleanser -- St. Ives Apricot Scrub Renew & Firm. I like it okay, though I miss my Neutrogena.

Then during the day I use Neutrogena Anti-Wrinkle Intensive Deep Wrinkle cream with SPF 20.

At night I use Neutrogena Advanced Solutions Nightly Renewal Cream, though I'm thinking of changing to the nighttime version of the Deep Wrinkle after this tube is empty.

Any thoughts? Anything better at combating wrinkles that I could be using? I have no wrinkles yet and I avoid the sun like the plague (the sun will AGE YOU like nothing else), but I'm open to suggestions! :-)

Answer
you are right but don't forget the metro sexual side of that story,,,,I use the normaderm products from Vichy and also the Homme series of products from them,,,,also a great day cream is from Yves Rocher,,,,to be clear, I don't have wrinkels, I mean, have you seen a 18 year old with wrinkles,,, I haven't,,,,,you should try day creams from Vichy from the series Homme,,,,I know people with wrinkles , and they solved the problem,,,good luck.

Oily skin and breakouts.....(10 points)?

mini wheat

theey are so annoying!
my nose and forehead are especially oily and so i have so many breakouts there. around the corners of my nose,i also have a lot and on my nose and on my chin. basically the only place i don't have that many breakouts is on my cheeks but still i have 1 or 2. how do i get rid of them and prevent them from emerging and also how do i get rid of oily skin? please help.

Answer
You must keep up a skin care routine to keep your skin clean which will reduce oil and breakouts i can't stress enough how important this is. Heres what you should be doing:

*Cleanse and Tone morning and night
*use an Exfoliater at least once a week
*also drink about 8 glasses of water a day

I would advise against using 'Clean & Clear' as those products can be very harsh on your skin. If the product your using stings it means your sensitive to it so stop as it is doing you damage. Also dont use soap on your skin as this can make it go dry and flakey (and this is whorst than oil as it causes premature ageing).

I like 'Simple' or 'Vichy' products as these dont contain any:
-Alcohol and Soap (which dries out the skin)
-Parfum (which is just unnecessary)
-Oils (which clogs up pores)
Always check on the back of products to see what they contain as many can be doing more harm than good!

Also DO NOT PICK! as this may cause scaring so if you do STOP! And try to keep your hands off your face as all of bacteria on your hands will go all on your face if you touch.

And always use oil free and dermalogicaly tested make-up and always clean it off at night.

I would also advise you to go and get a facial at a Beauticians as they can do a full clean and give you very useful advise on what to do.

And if none of this works and your feeling really down go to the doctor and ask them whats your options.

____

And also there are benefits to having oily skin such as......you will age much slower than a person with dry skin as your skin is rich and strong and can take a beating.

So don't be down on your self now and be proud of your skin. You will be envy of your dry skin mates who are all wrinkled at the age of 40.

Good Luck :D

Project on beauty, who is the prettiest?

I'm doing a project for my beauty, body and health class, and we are studying genetics and what makes a person pretty. Who would you say out of the 3 girls is the prettiest. NOTE: none of these are me, they are pictures of people I surveyed, so be as honest as possible. You don't have to rate them, just state who is the prettiest in order, and what qualities you like and what you don't like about them. Thank you so much!

Girl 3:

Again, thank you and I appreciate the feedback! Try and be specific :)

Answer
In order of preference:

1, 3, 2

The first girl has natural beauty-- her face is symmetrical and well proportioned. Her main features (eyes, nose, mouth) appear take up the middle 3/4s - 4/5ths of her face (below her hairline). Her eyes are the "right" distance apart atop relatively high cheek bones, and the corners of her mouth line up with her pupils. Her hair is long and looks very healthy. Admittedly I may be a little biased here since she looks Native, and I personally feel that Native women are the most beautiful of all.

The third is pretty, but her features seem a little too small for her face, are set too low, and are a tiny bit narrow for their height.

The second has slightly asymmetrical features (her right eye appears lower than her left) that are set a little too low with a disproportionately wide mouth.

What are the best beauty tips you've got?

#1 Diva!!

I really what to look good but i don't know how. i also what it to be natural so NO MAKE UP please.

Answer
hi, well, I always am interested in beauty tips,

So for both yours and my sake I went researching

The first few are basic ones

1) Plenty of water
2) Wash your face

Skin-
3)Ice can help to reduce redness of a pimple
4) Exfoliate once a week, don't do it too often. Its bad for your skin
Recipes-
http://www.toptipsforbeauty.com/tip/how_to_make_your_own_body_scrubexfoliant_/2230/
5)Applying to much makeup can increase the amount of pimples
6)Use a moisturizer everyday to improve your skin.
- If your knees or elbows are dry, use it on them and they will improve over a couple weeks.
7)If you have no foundation or concealer and you have little time, put a tiny bit of eyeshadow on a pimple or mark. It wont last long though
8) Don't leave your hand on your chin or cheek when your bored. It doesn't help with acne. The germs on your hand are then put on your face
9) Wearing sunscreen everyday before you go out is a vvverry good idea.
10) Not only is smoking VERY bad for your health, but also bad for you skin. It increases wrinkles.
11) After shaving, pat skin dry, don't rub
12) Eating healthily will give all your body a better look, but will help with making your skin look younger.

Myths about pimples-

1)Popping pimples gets rid of them
2)Being in the sun will help pimples- No.. cancer... BADD!
3) Chocolate and fried food causes them. It doesn't unless your hands are all greasy and you wipe them on your face
4) Washing your face as much as possible will get rid of them.- You should wash your skin as much as any part of your body
5)Stress causes them- In some people it might APPEAR that way. But it isn't
6)Not wearing make-up will help- This does not count for all makeup. Some makeup contains acne fighting ingredients.

Hair-
1) Before washing your hair, brush it.
2)After washing your hair, don't use a STRAIGHTENER or curler and ETC.
3) For that fact, don't use Straighteners to often. They will damage your hair.
4) How often you cut your hair depends on length
Short- about 4 weeks
Medium- 5 weeks
Long- 6weeks
Sometimes you may be able to stretch it out a couple of weeks
5)Use a wide-tooth comb when your hair is wet.
6)Use the right haircare products, specific to YOUR hair
7) DONT CUT YOUR OWN BANGS! 90% of the time, they wont look wonderful
8)Your hair is most breakable when it's wet, so be careful

Nail Tips
1) Once your nailpolish begins to chip, take it off
2)You should have at least 10 days of every month without nailpolish on.
3)File your nails so that it is smooth
4)Keeping them at the same length is always good.
5) Cut them often if you do certain activities e.g netball, violin

Teeth Care-
1) Everyone is alllwaays told this but.. Brush your teeth twice a day
2) Dont forget to floss
3) An electric toothbrush is just as good as a normal toothbrush that is used properly.
4) Brush for at LEAST 2 mins
5) Don't forget your gums. They are just as important.
6) Soft bristles are best
7) Visit a dentist twice a year

Eyes
1) Drop of VERY fresh castor oil will reduce puffiness
2) Using thick slices of cucumber really DOES help your eyes
3) Before plucking eyebrows, get a hot washer, and leave it on for a few minutes. It will make it easier.

Random
1)Run out of Deodorant- use talcom powder
2)Although cracking your knuckles doesnt look good, its hasnt't been proven to cause arthritis
3)Doing yoga helps flexibilty
4)When trying to lose weight you must eat healthy along with excercise
5)When trying to lose weight, eat slower, and you will eat less
5)When trying to lose weight, STOP when your full, it's not a waste if you chuck it out.
6)Using a chapstick each day will help with lips

Recommendations for basic skin care products?

Labels:

Luck

I am in my early 20s, okay skin condition, usually no acnes. I want to get some basic skin care products-- cleasners, face creams, hydration products, mask, etc. Please give me some recommendations on brand(s) that are good and with reasonable prices. Also, where should I purchase these products from? Walmart? A beauty shop in the mall? A Department store?

Answer
I am in my late 20's and up until now i used neutrogena face wash. I recently switched to clinique because my skin started drying out because i switched jobs and work in a rather harsh environment where it is always below 40 degrees. I always used neutrogena and then I would follow up with the neutrogena face cream for combination skin. It has an spf in it which is something else to look for. The neutrogena you can buy anywhere and it's relatively cheap. The clinique you can buy in the mall and they will help you pick a product line for your skin. It's definitely more expensive but well worth it.

career in skin care?

shelb

I am a high school graduate, and have been working for the state for almost a year now, and I want to change my career choice. My mom just sold her salon, but i grew up around it, and have always been very interested in make up, hair, skin ect.. i love it, and i think i want to become a skin care specialist ( esthetician. ) Does anyone do this, or could tell me what its like, and how they became one? What school ect? thank you SO so so much! :)

Answer
I am an Aesthetician and Medical Assistant. If you are interested in that line of work, the first thing you need to do is find a school to go to in your area. They are cosmetology schools. Most schools you have to pay up front. Im in NV and it took 600 hrs and $5000.00 to become one. You do 40 hrs a week, a couple hours of theory out of a book and then you work on clients that pay a discounted rate for you to work on them. Most schools are Tues-Sat. After you complete those required hours you have to take your state board exam which consists of a practical in which you perform services in front of examiners and then a written test. After you pass both, you get your license in the mail!
I suggest going to the school you are interested in first to see the place in person. And just to let you know, it is a short period of time while you are there, but there will be DRAMA! It;s beauty school.

Here are a couple sites I found! This is a good question, I'm gonna try a couple too!

http://www.buzzle.com/editorials/1-13-2005-64093.asp

http://www.essortment.com/lifestyle/recipeshomemade_snyz.htm

I have a book that says to do these:

Baking Soda--cleanses pores
1 banana mushed up-good calcium source
1/2 cup Sour Cream- don't ask!
1/4 cup Maple Syrup-gives shiny skin
3/4 cup honey- This is the best for your skin!

to get glowing skin after waking up, the night before going to sleep, cover your head with a towel above sink with the hot water running. steam your face for about 5-10mins. trust me. your skin glows the next morning.

oily skin mask: plain yogurt all over the face and leave it for 10mins. it absorbs oil.

dry skin mask: mash bananas with oatmeal and almond essential oil. leave it for 10mins. your skin will be hydrated and supple.

Hope I helped! :)

All the info. you know on Lepaord Frogs!?

Labels:

hi78915

I am getting a lepaord frog well tadpole and I want to know everything there is to know from tadpole to frog.

Answer
Basic Information
During the nineteenth century, scientists grouped most green frogs with brown spots and yellow dorsolateral folds or ridges (lengthwise ridges of skin along the sides of the back) as leopard frogs. Today, this group of frogs is known as the "Rana pipiens complex". They are part of a group of frogs known as "true frogs", Family Ranidae. Leopard frogs are found in nearly every state in the U.S.

Leopard frogs can be found in almost any habitat where land and permanent water meet. They are medium-sized, reaching about 4 inches in length. Even though these frogs look very similar, they have distinguishing features that make it easy to identify the various species. Also, it is a fascinating fact that there is very little overlap in their geographic range. These frogs are generally nocturnal (active at night).

Description and Range
Rio Grande Leopard Frog (Rana berlandieri): Pale green; large dark spots between russet dorsolateral ridges - ridges broken near hind legs; jaw stripe poorly defined. Southern New Mexico to central Texas and northern Mexico; isolated population in southwestern Arizona. Able to tolerate dry conditions.

Plains Leopard Frog (Rana blairi): Green to brown; large dark spots between yellow dorsolateral ridges - ridges broken near hind legs; prominent jaw stripe; light spot on eardrum (tympanum). Eastern Colorado to western Indiana; Kansas south to central Texas. The call is two or three distinct guttural notes.

Relict Leopard Frog (Rana onca): Brown; large gray-edged dark spots between light-color dorsolateral ridges - ridges broken near hind legs; upper jaw stripe. Virgin River area (where Nevada, Arizona and Utah meet).

Northern Leopard Frog (Rana pipiens): Brown or green; large, light-edged dark spots between light-color dorsolateral ridges - ridges continuous to groin; upper jaw stripe; no spot on ear drum. Throughout northern United States and Great Basin (except west coast). The call is often described as a long snore followed by a series of short grunts.

Southern Leopard Frog (Rana utricularia): Green to brown; large dark spots between light-color dorsolateral ridges - ridges continuous to groin; upper jaw stripe; a light spot in center of ear drum. Southern New York to Florida Keys, west to east Texas, north to Iowa east to Kentucky. The call resembles a chuckle-like guttural trill.

General Care
Leopard frogs will spend much of their time hidden in and foraging through the damp undergrowth of temperate forests. A temperate woodland terrarium will be ideal for these frogs. Keep your terrarium design simple so it will be easy to maintain and clean. The substrate should be chemical-free soil covered with a generous layer of leaf mulch. The soil should be deep enough for the frog to bury itself. Decorative logs and rocks should be provided for hiding places. If the logs or rocks are not terrarium ready, they should be baked in a low oven or put in boiling water to kill any harmful parasites. A variety of low-growing ferns will make an ideal addition to the terrarium. The cage should have a small land area and a large, shallow water bowl. These frogs enjoy a wide variety of insects and worms, such as night crawlers, crickets and woodlice. No special lighting (except for the plants) or heating is required. Since these frogs are very active and can adapt well to all parts of North America, they will make good candidates for outdoor greenhouses. They should not be housed with smaller animals since they are likely to be eaten. With proper care, leopard frogs will make an enjoyable and hardy pet for all ages.

A Conservation Moment
Reptiles and amphibians throughout the world are disappearing at a very fast rate. They are victims of senseless slaughter, the destruction of habitats and exploitation from the pet trade. If we are to save these creatures, we must educate ourselves and understand the nature of these cold-blooded animals. Just because they are not cute and cuddly, like dogs and cats, they are beneficial because they destroy many of the pests that plague us. We must not abuse these animals but allow them to live freely within their habitat.

The greatest enemy of reptiles and amphibians today is pollution and the ruination of their habitat. Each time we build a new shopping center, an industrial area or a new housing development, we must also consider creation of "green spaces" - places where animals and humans can co-exist. The establishment of a network of garden ponds within a neighborhood will help bring back the amphibians and other animals. It seems that us humans have lost our wild side, preferring to live in nice, neat, orderly and mundane spaces.

Great Britain leads the way in pond conservation. Communities in Britain are working to restore ponds for environmental reasons as many now realize how essential they are for the ecosystem. Through the Ponds Conservation Trust, nearly 15,000 ponds have been created or restored throughout the country. Many places in England have a wildlife trust, dedicated to preserving the native wildlife within that city our county. The people of the area are being educated on how they can play a part in protecting animal and plant species. Currently, I am collecting information about these grassroots programs and will report soon on my findings. Amphibians - frogs, toads, salamanders and newts are excellent indicators of environmental quality

Well best of luck to you

What is the brand of skin care regime is best for a woman over 40?

Labels:

I have the mouth "parentheses" lines and smile wrinkles at my eyes. My skin is oily to normal and my pores are large. I have under eye circles, too.

Answer
You need to use high quality skin care products to battle the signs of aging, the Vivier professional skincare line may be a bit pricey, but you will see a difference!

This should work for your type of skin: http://www.tcclinic.com/cosmeticshop/c-e-kinerol-p-10.html

and for your eyes:

Skin care at 40 - how to look my best in 7 months for wedding?

byrdie

So, I'm getting married in 7 months and I'm 40 years old. What kind of skin care can I start to put my best face forward on my wedding day? I've heard of facial "toning" with micro-currents - does it work?

p.s. No surgery please, I'm not into that (plus I'm not THAT old!). Thanks in advance.

Answer
Start by getting a facial at a reputable salon (1X a month or so). You can ask the esthetician what she recommends. She'll study your skin and give you a treatment designed for your skin type.

Do you have a regular skin care regime? If you don't, then now is the time to adopt one. Regardless of your skin type you need to wash, tone and moisturize 2X a day. On top of that, put sunscreen on EVERY morning. In the morning, after toning and before moisturizing I recommend a topical vitamin C product, and at night, a topical vitamin A/retinoid. Also, exfoliate as needed depending on your skin type.

Here are some product suggestions:
-Bliss The Youth as We Know It- there's an entire line including cleaner and toner and I have tried them all, but the moisture cream and eye cream are particularly amazing and give instant result.
-Bliss Sleeping Peel Serum (there is also a cleanser). You would put this on your face after cleaning and toning at night.
-Bliss Triple Oxygenating Energizing Mask- brightens up your entire complexion. It really works and is quick and easy to do at home.

For vitamin C:
- Philosophy 'A Hope and a Prayer'- it's vitamin C in powder form, you mix a scoop full with serum or moisturizer each morning (this is what I'm currently using. it works well and is less expensive than most vitamin C products
- Skinceuticals CE Ferulic- this is a serum. It works great but is somewhat pricey (also try their B5 serum)

If you have oily skin, black heads and break outs try:
-Laboratoire Remede Double Oxygenating Booster
-Laboratoire Remede Complete Treatment Anti-Aging/Oil Control
-Bliss Steep Clean (this is a pore cleaning mask and is single-handedly the BEST product for getting rid of stubborn black heads)

Make-up (assuming you wear it):
-Less is more. Visit the Clinique counter (or similar) for recommendations. I'd try the lightest, sheerest things possible and if you are used to wearing foundation religiously every day you should try giving your skin some days off

You can always treat yourself to an at home facial, I do this once a week:
1. clean
2. exfoliate (I use Origins Modern Friction or Cosmedicine Medi-Morphosis Self-Adjusting Exfoliator)
3. steam for 10 minutes (boil water, pour in bowl and lean over with a towel draped over head-BE CAREFUL)
4. mask (one suitable for your skin type, I use the Steep Clean to clear out my pores, leave on as per package directions)
5. Wipe mask off face using washcloth, rinse with COLD water
6. Tone
7. Serum
8. Moisturizer

Good luck with your wedding. You gave yourself plenty of time, you'll have a glowing complexion in 7 months! Hope I helped, I don't know your exact skin type so I did the best with what I had :)

Career opportunities within the beauty industry?

Labels:

makeupismy

I have been fascinated with make up my whole life and now that im a senior in high school its time to start figuring out my plans. I do plan on going to a 4 year college and attending evening cosmetology schools. I am majoring in business marketing. I have decided that i dont neccesarily want to be a hair dresser or a makeup artist but i want to work for the corporate side of the beauty industry. Basically i want to intermix my knowledge of make up and a degree in business, but im just not sure what job title would match what i want! so if you could help me out :)

Answer
Since you are majoring in business marketing, you have quite a few options for possible careers in the beauty industry. For example, you could work as a marketing executive at practically any beauty brand, as they all have a marketing pro on staff. If they don't have someone, they hire outside marketing firms, many of which specialize in health & beauty. Another option is working in public relations. Every beauty brand has a PR team. They may be in house of not. In NYC, for example, there are many PR firms that specialize in nothing but health and beauty.

An awesome resource to check out is BeautySchoolsDirectory.com. They have a HUGE list of possible careers in the beauty industry. Not only that, they have a directory of nearly every cosmetology school in the country. This way you can find schools near you and research their programs on one easy website.

Good luck!

Answer
You can't go wrong with Skin Food. I've been a loyal customer for years. Their product is not oily, and doesn't have an oily feeling at all. I'm using the skin care products for men which consists of cleanser, toner and moisturizer. Lots of the female customers are using the pomegranate line, which have at least six different lotions/creams! How I feel lucky that I'm of the male species.

DUDE. Use Missha's Super Aqua Anti-Trouble Formula!
I went to Korea this winter and got that ENTIRE line (it was on christmas sale thankfully), their toner, moisturizer, cleanser, blemish. everythinng haha. I wasn't expecting it to work but I was shocked by the results. LOL I sound like one of their employees. My skin was originally very oily. I'm also very pale with milky white skin which made my annoying blotches of red blemish on my cheeks and forehead very noticeable. I bought that line, used it for a couple weeks, and saw crazy results.. No more blemish for mee!!!!

Skin Care Recommendations?

Labels:

Aqua

My whole life I've pretty much done nothing with my skin. I've had acne issues througout adulthood but my skin seems to have finally settled down. I still get the occasional breakout with hormone changes, but for the most part it's calm.

What I'm finding now is that my skin looks lifeless and dull and flaky.

I would like to get it looking good again while I still can.

I would like some recommendations for products that really work and fit my criteria:

1. I have somewhat sensitive skin

2. I don't like stuff that's really greasy

3. I LOVE disposable facial cloths that you can wash your face with and throw out. I just can't make myself do any type of actual cleanser/toner routine. Don't know why. Lazy I guess.

4. I currently use a day and night cream on my face - so I'm down with creams, but I'm looking for something that will really work to bring back the dewey glow I should have at my age (Under 40)

Thanks! ! Will choose best answer-

Answer
To get your skin glowing and moisturized, I would recommend Burt's Bees Radiance skin care products :)

Ideas for new skin care for over age 40?

snorkeldan

I've just used a hodge podge of skin care products over the years. I'm looking to go with a particular line but prefer it not be extremely expensive. I have normal skin, large pores, some wrinkles near eyes, neck and lips but otherwise pretty healthy skin.

Also have blood vessels that stand out over my cheekbones just at the outside corner my eyes. Any ideas on how to cover these up!

Answer
Oil of Olay Regenerist Collection for the skin care.
The have a new line that performs a thermal lift. The package is about 23.00 and it works wonders.
How are you with foundation and concealer? What line do you currently use? I may have some great suggestions for you.

okay so i just went to a spa and got my makeup done
the spa owner used jane iredale makeup..
is that a good brand?
idk if i should buy all of the products she used on mee.

i really like it, but idk..
is it worth it?

and i spent $40 on the makeup application.
did i get ripped off?

Answer
I use a lot of the jane iredale products and I like it.

I think it depends if you're someone who likes mineral makeup. If you don't really care, then I think you might be better off just buying the other stuff as it's cheaper and will give you a similar look, just with added synthetics, etc.

I buy my j.i. makeup through online sites like skincarerx.com or spalook.com since I can always find a 20%off coupon online somewhere.

You could always buy a sample kit from the j.i. site directly if you still want to give it a shot. I think I paid like $26 for mine that had a little sample of blush, eyeshadow, foundation powder, pressed powder, and lipgloss and lipsticks.

Good luck!

Recommendations for a BB Cream WITHOUT whitening, for oily skin?

Candace

I have YELLOW undertones to my skin (I'm Asian ^^), and I'm fair/medium in the winter but get tan the rest of the year (so I don't want whitening in the creams!).

Any help or recommendations are appreciated!!! So far I've looked at some Missha/Skin79/Etude House products but haven't located any that are good for oily skin AND have no whitening. A lot of also made for pink undertones :/

Answer
BB Cream Korea

Lately, weâve had a few comments from our viewers commenting on how (myâ>) Martinaâs skin looks so smooth in our videos. The truth is, I can thank Koreaâs infamous BB Cream for my seemingly perfect skin. I decided it was time to let the cat out of the bag, and tell everyone about this awesome product. My secret is out! NOOOOoOOOoOOOOooooOOO!!

BB Cream stands for Blemish Base or Blemish Balm and supposedly it was originally created by dermatologists for laser surgery patients, but since then has been reformulated by various makeup producers in Korea. BB Cream is like a foundation + concealer + sunblock + acne cream + scar cover-up + fountain of youth mashed into one awesome product that feels like a light lotion.

Martina's Favorite BB Cream
To begin with, I should say that I was not a foundation or concealer wearer in Canada. I didnât like how heavy it was, how fake it sometimes looked, or how easily it rubbed off. BB Cream is totally UNLIKE these products. I first tried BB cream as a free sample and I thought it was just sunblock. When I used it, I realized it was much thinner than sunblock and it made my skin look awesomely smooth.

After juicing that tiny BB Cream sample package to the last drop, I decided to bite the bullet and buy my own bottle. It was time to be overwhelmed. There are a million brands of BB Cream and I had no idea the difference between them. Just to name a few popular Korean skin care brands:

Aritaum // DR. Jart + // Etude House // Hanskin // Holika Holika // Innisfree // IPKN New York // Missha // Nature Republic // Skin Food // Skin79 // The Face Shop

My personal favourite has come to be Etude House âPrecious Mineral: All Day Strong SPF 30/PA++ Sheer Glowing Skinâ which matches my skin tone the best, and itâs also a lighter formula, which means it doesnât act like a concealer as much as others, and it feels just like a really light face cream.

Now, there are tons and tons of different kinds of BB Cream, with loads of different offshoots and varieties, all made for different kinds of skin. Surely, with all the options out there, you can find one that will suit you best. And so, if youâre looking to buy BB Cream, I would suggest going over the following checklist to narrow down your search before you decide to buy one:

1. Do I want a matte or shiny (aka âglowyâ or âdewyâ) look?
2. Do I have normal, dry, oily, or combination skin?
3. What colour is my skin tone (very fair, fair, normal, dark)?
4. Do I want: light or heavy coverage? sunblock? oil control? moisture? brightening?

If you find the right BB Cream you will be blown away because it can actually help clear up acne prone skin, improve oily skin, and cover-up scarring. When I leave Korea Iâll be sure to fill my suitcase with my favourite BB Cream. In the words of Simon: SHAAAZZZAAAMMMMM! *^_^* Anyhow, if youâre looking to buy some online, and know what kind youâre looking for, you might be able to buy it here. They ship internationally :D

Q. whats a really good skin care cleanser for white heads and blackheads found at a drugstore or walmart

Answer
The best things I can advise you is to use natural remedies. I found they work much better, but you can try it out for yourself if you like (they`re also just as cheap, if not more).
First, use avocado oil (virgin, cold pressed) as your moisturizer. It actually absorbs really fast, to the point that in 2 minutes it doesn't show and you can go out with it. It gives you a nice glow as is super good for your skin....known to heal sun damage, moisturize intensely, prevent sun spots, wrinkles, regenerate cells and help with large pores and acne. Apart from this, I never need anything else in my skincare routine because it also prevents my skin from becoming too oily during the day (I guess my skin feels it has enough moisture that it doesn't have to produce too much of it's own).
In case you ever get problems with acne, mangoes work really well at managing it (either eating them or making a face mask out of the pulp, and leaving it on your skin for 10 minutes).

As for blackheads, I've never tried anything, but I found a remedy that people seem to say works:
Wash your face with a paste of baking soda and water, and leave on for 2-3 minutes. Then, massage a thin layer of honey on your face, leave for 10 minutes, then rinse off with warm water.

So, that's pretty much it....if you're really devoted to long term skin care, I would suggest using natural products on your skin (like the avocado oil, and natural soaps), because most stuff on the market contains harmful chemicals and alcohol that dries skin out. From my experience, natural stuff usually works better and has more long term results.
Well, whatever you choose, good luck!

Answer
Hi Victoria.

Acne - Blackheads & WhiteheadsAcne is the most common skin disease treated by physicians. It is a chronic condition that affects over 85% of adolescents and young adults. One study showed that two-thirds of teenagers with acne wanted to talk to their physician about their acne, but only one-third actually did.

TYPES OF ACNE
Not all acne is the same. Simplistically, acne can be divided into red bumps and blackheads/whiteheads. This division is important because each type is treated differently. Blackheads and whiteheads, known as comedones, can be more numerous on the face and shoulders than red bumps filled with pus. Good, consistent skin hygiene can help improve this condition. Therefore, knowing more about what causes comedones and how to treat them is a step towards clearer skin.

WHY DOES ACNE OCCUR ?

BLACKHEADS
Blackheads, also known as open comedones, are follicles that have a wider than normal opening. They are filled with plugs of sebum and sloughed-off cells and have undergone a chemical reaction resulting in the oxidation of melanin. This gives the material in the follicle the typical black color.

WHITEHEADS
Whiteheads, also known as closed comedones, are follicles that are filled with the same material, but have only a microscopic opening to the skin surface. Since the air cannot reach the follicle, the material is not oxidized, and remains white.

SKIN CARE FOR BLACKHEADS AND WHITEHEADS
The key to skin care for acne is consistency. An overnight cure has not been found. But using good skin care methods aids in the daily, steady improvement of follicle health. Since acne is not caused by eating certain foods, restricting the diet is not helpful. Since it is also not caused by "dirty" skin, excessively scrubbing does not help and can even make the skin more irritated.

The best skin care for comedones consists of once-a-day cleansing with a mild soap or facial scrub to aid in the removal of excess sebum and dead skin cells. Oil-based makeup should not be used since these can contribute to the buildup of oil in the follicles. Water-based makeup labeled as non-comedogenic can be used safely.

TREATMENT FOR BLACKHEADS AND WHITEHEADS
Treatment of whiteheads and blackheads takes time. Most treatments take several weeks to months before a noticeable change is seen.

BENZOYL PEROXIDE
Benzoyl peroxide has an antibacterial effect and may also decrease the chemical reaction that changes the lining of the hair follicle. This may help reduce the plugging that causes comedones. Benzoyl peroxide may be used for a mild case of comedones or to help prevent formation of others.

TRETINOIN (RETIN-A)
Tretinoin (Retin-A, Avita, Renova) is the mainstay of treatment for whiteheads and blackheads. Tretinoin is a derivative of vitamin A and works by increasing cell turnover and reducing the "stickiness" of the sloughed cells. It helps expel the plugged material returning the pore to normal. Tretinoin can be irritating, so specific instructions on how to use it can be found here.

ANTIBIOTICS
Prescription topical antibiotics or oral antibiotics might be used if some of the blackheads and whiteheads are infected, but antibiotics do not help with comedones that are not infected.

ISOTRETINOIN (ACCUTANE)
Isotretinoin (Accutane) is used for severe cystic acne and has many side effects. It is very effective for comedones when used properly, but is not usually prescribed for mild acne of either type.

EXTRACTION
Extraction may be used by a health care provider on open comedones. This process is performed using a device called a comedone extractor. This is a small, metal, circular instrument that is centered on the comedone and pushes down the surrounding skin, causing the plug to extrude.

NO NEED TO SUFFER
Whiteheads and blackheads are types of acne that affect many people. There are good treatment options available, so there is no need to suffer with this condition in silence. A primary care provider can initiate treatment for acne and follow mild to moderate cases. Severe cases or those resistant to treatment should be seen by a dermatologist.

Regards. Take Care.

Career opportunities within the beauty industry?

Good luck!

Q. I need an easy blemish/blackhead remedy.

Answer
i am now using yogurt to bleach my acne blemishes. besides taking yogurt everyday, i apply as mask everynight. its soothing. remember to use just plain yogurt. i heard of mixing yogurt with a bit of lemon juice for whitening but some people say if the skin gets expose to the sun, the effect of using lemon juice will further darken the skin.
home remedies work but you have to have patience, it will take a while to see the results. the patches on my skin is lighthening but it is still slightly visible.

OhHelloThu

I have a few acne scars around my lips and stuff, I also have blotchy skin and an oily forehead, but the skin on my cheeks is dry.
I already spent a lot of my money on products, so I would like to know if there are any "Do At Home" remedies that I can do for myself. Thanks!

Treat your hands and fingers with great care. The result will be beautiful hands and fingers. Homemade techniques are so simple and so pampering. Give one day for your hands and pamper them. Here I am sharing how you can spend few hours with your hands and give love to them. This way you can have beautiful hands and fingers.
Think that this a holiday for you. Be free from all other activities. Make sure that you will get few hours undisturbed. Say goodbye to phone for these time. Put on enough lights. Play some slow music. ( I am a fan of lounge music) Arrange two medium bowls and one plastic bowl. We need one fresh lemon, one cooked potato, almond oil, oats powder, sugar and coconut oil.
Get two cotton socks. Wet it in cold water. Wear this socks on both hands. Give sometime to listen to music or engage in some other things. After 10 or 20 minutes remove the socks and wash your hands. Now take 2-3 glasses of water in the plastic bowl. Add two or three spoons of lemon juice to it. Di ...more

I personally tried sport fever and moves. Don't go on the bottle, Sport fever smells really nice. Anyway why are you buying adidas cologne? Go to TJMaxx or Nordstrom Rack, they have discounted designer fragrances on sale for like 20-30 bucks. Get on of those, like curve or Paradise by Alfred Sung. Trust me you'll like the designer fragrances better than the Adidas ones.

Answer
Whichever one smells the best on you - it doesn't matter what it's called or what the bottle looks like because it's all about the scent. Colognes smell differently on different people (for instance, J.Lo's Glow smells like crap on me, for some reason) so try them all out first (on different days!) and let them sit on you for about 20-30 minutes and then ask a trusted girl friend her honest opinion.

Some health/beauty questions!?

Goddess Ro

Hello, I'm 13. Okay, don't freak out, I'm incredibly self conscious about my weight. I would just like to know a few tricks so I earn myself the body I feel I deserve before I get back to school, and remain healthy. Few questions

What yoga instructor is the best on on demand? I'm very very small, I'm 4'9 and I hear yoga helps stretch out your body, and I would like to know if any has ideas.

What's that water trick?

What are some bars, or something that I can eat when I am hungry. I understand I am growing, but I eat far to much for my age!

What are some good skin care products, I do not have zits or anything, but I like a glowing feeling on my skin. Something to not make me look so tired.

Do you have any particular make up advice, I like a natural look with the still the essence of bringing out my beauty.
-----

Alright... Any other things you wanna throw out there would be most helpful. <3. Thanks, -j.

Answer
Hi, I think this is great that you want to know how to become healthier :)
I've never tried On Demand yoga but really, if you just look up some yoga moves on the Internet, you'll be fine.
I don't know about a water trick... Drink a lot though!! I'm a rower and the coxswains always have to be really small so before they weigh in, they'll drink about a gallon of water and then go pee because it makes them lighter, if that helps.
I like Luna bars and Clif bars. I'm not sure how healthy they are, I think they're more for energy (I eat one about an hour before a race) so maybe don't try those.
I would use Cetaphile or CleanStart. I used Cetaphile when I was your age and it just helped me feel like I was actually doing something for my skin, even though I didn't have any acne either.
The main beauty tips are these though:
Drink lots of water. It'll keep your body hydrated and make you feel more awake.
Eat plenty of fruit. It gives you a nice glow, pretty nails, pretty hair and makes you feel better.
Exercise. Exercising releases endorphins which make you feel naturally happy and better about yourself. Even if it's just yoga, it still counts :) I do yoga everyday, in addition to running and rowing, and I always feel great at the end of the day, no matter how sore I am!
Stretch. It releases tension in your body, so stretch before you go to bed.
Stay away from heat on your hair i.e. hair dryer, straightner, curling iron. They're not good for your hair and you're young so you want pretty hair for the rest of your life! :)
Good luck, sorry it was so long! Haha
