What kind of skincare items should I use?

crazy

Ok so I have okay skin. I don't have like a ton of acne or anything but i always get like 1 or 2 pimples and my face wash definitely isn't helping at all! I am using the Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash (grapefruit). I need something that is strong enough to get rid of my breakouts and actually stop them from coming! I also have sensitive skin. What skincare regimen should I use?

Answer
I've recommend something 100% Natural. It's WAY better in the long run. I've tried quite a few products, but for more oily and sensitive skin (like mine) I'd have to suggest these two:

The Cucumber Light Facial Moisturizer is 100% Natural and is made with a potent amount of cucumber seed oil and aloe leaf juice which are both great for oily and sensitive skin. It's also really light and last a while!

http://www.deliziososkincare.com/Cucmber-Facial-Moisturizer.html

The Cool Cucumber Facial Bar is made with a potent amount of pure cucumber seed oil and aloe leaf juice, and is great oily and sensitive skin. I cleanse with it every morning before putting on the cream and it leave my skin feeling soft and pimple-free!

Best of luck! :)

I just recently found out I'm pregnant. Only about 1 month. Im aware that you can't use salicylic acid when pregnant. Also retin A which I wouldn't use anyway because my breakouts arnt that serious. But, my hormones are going crazy & as an esthetician I know that hormonal acne is one of the hardest to control. Im scared of scarring so I was thinking of using a vitamin c serum to help with that but I need a cleanser that I can use daily to control this Breakout. Help from any mothers or skin care buffs would be appreciated! ! Also, I am aware of thehardest skin care line Belli..anyone tried it & had luck? I would like to not spend a lot of $, but I do understand if I would have too. Thankss!

Answer
I've never heard you can't use salicylic acid during pregnancy. I've had issues with breakouts since I was 13. Tried a million things. The day I got proactiv was the best day of my life. I'm 21 with 2 small children and I've used skincare stuff with that in it. You should be fine. Still worried about it then you could always consult your doctor.
Good luck (:

I have tattoos on my stomach and I was wondering what the best skin care product was for stretch marks?

Answer
I've been using bio-oil.
I had been using cocoa butter oil, but it hadn't done much for me at all, so despite to price I switched to bio-oil to protect my tattoos. So far they still look great, and my stretch marks are minimal.

I am studying european women's attitudes about health and beauty, specifically, France and Italy. If you could provide links to these magazines online, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Answer
Yes, there's plenty of magazines for women, filled with information about fashion, beauty tips, health tips etc. Here are a few in France:

Elle
Maison et jardin
Marie Claire Maison
Femme actuelle
Marie Claire
Burda
Madame Figaro

I suffer from depression, lack of concentration/focus/memory. I basically want a better brain/mind/emotional health (also tired a LOT). When I get down, I get really down, like very hopeless. I hate that feeling. Also I am about to start some college courses and noticed I just can't concentrate or retain any of the information. I have to make this work. Is there one good combo or do I need to get a whole bunch seperately? I've tried St johns wort, I've noticed I get a little calmer and sleepy but nothing major. Any recommendations? I am looking for Natural remedies please, I've been on RX and the side effects were horrible. Thanks

What do I need to go from brownish red to blonde?

Ashley

Can someone tell me exactly what to buy from Sally Beauty to get my hair from a dark reddish brown to blonde?

Thank you!

Answer
Before I respond, I'd like you to read the following:
Personality & health risks.
There is a strong belief among some people that a personâs hair color can tell you some about their personality.  A new study out of Harvard suggests hair color can also tell you about a personâs health risks
Top doctors say you can tell a lot about a personâs health from their hair color:
-Blondes have a higher risk of melanoma, especially on their scalps, and should always wear a hat in direct sunlight.
-Brunettes are more likely to suffer from hair loss, and can help prevent it by getting enough iron (dark leafy vegetables are high in iron).
-And a Harvard study finds redheads may have a 90% greater chance of developing Parkinsonâs Disease because of a specific gene mutation. Housecall for Health, Iâm Colleen Cappon, FOX News Radio. 12-10-12

MY ANSWER: Call the 1-800# found on the box of dye or email them, (to find #, go online & search the brand if you don't have the box) they're the hair color experts they can advice you best. Style meets chemistry meets biology: We're talking hair coloring.

Playing with chemicals is not like playing with clothes, or doing a manicure, there are penalties for playing chemicals in the lab. Even hair color experts at the salon are not rocket scientists, they do a bang up dye jobs to their clients or their own hair.
Chemicals can enter the body through the skin.

Google: Teen 'feared she would die' after reaction to hair dye
The allergic reaction was caused by a well-known brand of semi-permanent hair dye Chloe used to turn her hair black for a Halloweâen party. . . . . called for beauty bosses to ban hair dye chemical PPD (para-phenylenediamine) from the shelves. 11-04-11

The chemical is not new and is present in a number of brands of dark hair colours, acting to help adhere the dye to the hair so that it doesn't wash out. Itâs made from coal tar and is used in both permanent and semi-permanent hair colours. Itâs well-known to be a cause of serious allergic reactions -- including something called contact dermatitis which can lead to rashes, blisters, and open sores.
PPD is sometimes added to black henna tattoos and that using them is not safe. Allergic reactions usually begin within two to 10 days following application. One bad reaction can lead to sensitivities to other products such as hair dye, sunblock and some types of clothing dyes. Oftentimes, it's using the product a second or third time.

Google: A 38-year old mother left in a coma after using hair dye. SHE DYED HER HAIR MANY TIMES BEFORE, USING THE SAME BRAND. The British woman who went into coma after a reaction to hair dye has died after a year. Updated 11-25-12. The woman suffered a heart failure, struggled for breath and became unconsciousness. Her family blamed paraphenylenediamine, a chemical found in hair colour. Her family has now called for paraphenylenediamine to be banned from home dye kits. In 2000, a 38-year-old Indian-origin woman from Birmingham, Narinder Devi, died after an allergic reaction to hair dye.

Permanent black hair dye is linked to causing leukemia and lymphomas.

Google Salon Hair Dye Lawsuits. About 336,000 results (0.17 seconds) Dec. 2011
When it comes to hair care treatments, product use or visits to a salon or spa, the consumer must take responsibility to do their homework and be aware of all the risks involved.
Vanessa Minnillo Lachey: "I dated a guy once who wanted me to have blonde hair. Clearly, he was the wrong guy for me! I went to a lady who bleached my hair and it literally fell out. So, not only did I go back to my natural hair, I broke up with the guy!"
Another example posted on YA! 8-20-12. Is it just me or does xxl live max blonde make your scalp feel like it on fire? I've recently used a max blonde on my hair and I had to wash it wash off straight away because my scalp felt like it was on fire has this happend to anyone else?

A WOMAN was temporarily blinded when her face swelled up "like a football" following what she told was a severe reaction to hair dye.
Carmen Rowe, 25, from Swansea was hospitalised for three days after using the Clairol 'Nice n' Easy' natural black colour. She said: "I lost my job, all for the sake of a glamorous hairstyle. I just want to warn parents what could happen." She claimed she carried out a skin test 48 hours before using the dye without a problem and has been colouring her hair since she was 13. March 3, 2012.

Example of one who's hair is falling and stopped growing from YA!:
"my hair had been bleached many times and can't grow past a certain length
its also falling out . i stopped bleaching it.
i just need to add lenght! but if i can stop it from falling out..that be great too"

I swear I try so hard to pop them and nothing works they are like under my skin and will not go away, they've been there for years!!l I can't find a pic and I can't upload my own but they arnt pimples they're just white dots under my skin! Help me!!

Answer
Boil some water in a medium sized pot and steep some dried herbs or herbal tea in the water (suggestions would be the herbal mix found in the laxative tea Swiss Kriss, or Chamomile and peppermint teas...basically any decaff herbal tea).

Take the pot off the burner and, with pot holders, transfer pot to a stable surface, like a table. Put a pot holder underneath it so you don't ruin your table. Put your face over the water, but not too close or your will burn your face. About 5-6 inches above is about right...experiment for the right distance. Make sure your hair is tied back and a large towel is covering your whole head and draping over the sides of the pot...so that no steam can escape.

Steam your face like this for about 10-15 minutes. If the water cools off, you can always reheat. I like to do hot/cold water therapy on my skin. The way you do this is by steaming for 10 minutes, then splashing cold water from the faucet on your face for a minute...then warming up your water again and steam again for 10 minutes...

Then...when your pores are heated and open from the steam...apply a glacial marine mud mask...a lower priced one is Queen Helene's Mint Julep Mask...a higher priced one could come from Nu Skin (ordered online) or Zihr (considered a men's skin care line..but very effective), or Alba Botanica (found in health food stores, Rite Aid, or CVS). Let the mask dry until it cracks, or is very tight.

When you are washing the mask off with warm water, you may see some of the white heads starting to become softer...this is the ideal time to gently extract them. But if the skin over the white head seems really thick, DON't force the stuff out by squeezing!!! This will cause scarring!

If the white head still isn't ready to come to a head, you can put the same mud mask on the whiteheads (spot treatment), and wear overnight. In the morning, you could steam again and this time, try a different kind of mask...like Queen Helene's Grape Seed Mask. This will refine pores and get tight enough to encourage the gunk in your pores to come to the surface.

You can also buy a tube of 10 percent benozyl peroxide and do a spot treatment with that.

When your skin is still all fresh and moist from the mask and/or steaming, apply a Quality, Light foundation like Estee Lauder Lucidity or Sue Devitt Triple Seaweed Foundation...these foundations aren't too drying...they actually have some moisturizers in them and reflect light away from the skin to detract attention from blemishes.

Other products that are helpful in softening up whiteheads are the Zia brand skin care line, found at Whole Foods and other health food stores...I love their papaya enzyme and pumpkin mask products. They really help to condition the skin, improve blood circulation, and improve acne if used regularly.

Also, remember to decrease stress and drink loads of pure water. You can also workout and sweat a lot before doing the above skin care...this will open up the pores and help to expel a lot of skin toxins...just remember to wash your skin with a gentle cleanser afterwards.

Good Luck!

What exactly is a microdermabrasion treatment?

skin care zinc image

I Love My

Im 20, and I have this coupon for a skin care place for a free 15 minute microdermabrasion.. what exactly does the microderm. do?

Answer
Microdermabrasion (often referred to as Microderm) is a cosmetic procedure popular in day spas, doctors' practices, and medical spas in which the stratum corneum (dead outermost surface of the skin) is partially or completely removed by light abrasion. Different methods include mechanical abrasion from jets of zinc oxide or aluminum oxide crystals, fine organic particles, or a roughened surface. Particles are removed off through the wand/handpiece through which the abrasive particles come [1] The term dermabrasion itself refers to the more severe medical procedure carried out under general or light anesthesia.

Microdermabrasion is used to remove sun-damaged skin and to remove or lessen scars and dark spots on the skin. The procedure is not very painful and requires no anaesthetic. Microdermabrasion can be used medically for scar removal when the scar is raised above the surrounding skin, but is less effective with sunken scars. There is very little, if any, evidence that microdermabrasion stimulates collagen formation. Microdermabrasion can also be used for treatment of acne, but must be repeated periodically to be effective. Microdermabrasion should not be used on patients who have taken the medication Accutane (Isotretinion) in the previous twelve months.

In the past, microdermabrasion was carried out using abrasive crystals. However, in the last decade, it has become more common to use a wand with a roughened surface. This procedure requires no medical oversight and is commonly used in conjunction with facial spa treatments. These days there are a multiplicity of machines available for microdermabrasion.

The growth of the microdermabrasion treatment industry has led to innovations and there are currently a few different microdermabrasion systems available. In terms of professional microdermabrasion systems there are two choices:

1. Crystal microdermabrasion Crystal microdermabrasion systems are the traditional treatment of choice and rely on tiny crystals that are blasted onto the skin to perform the exfoliating process. Although the crystal microdermabrasion system is still widely used, the introduction of alternatives has led to a trend away from this treatment system.

2. Diamond microdermabrasion Diamond microdermabrasion systems operate without the need for crystals. The exfoliation process occurs when a diamond tipped head makes contact with the skin and abrades against it. In both crystals and diamond microdermabrasion systems the dead skin cells are sucked away from the face.

3. Home Microdermabrasion Home microdermabrasion systems are an increasingly popular alternative to professional treatments. These are cheap and very easy to perform, and although not as powerful as professional systems, can produce good results over time. There is a great deal of competition in the home microdermabrasion systems market with most of the big cosmetics and skin care brands launching their own home systems.

Microdermabrasion is a procedure where tiny particles "sand" or "polish" the skin and gradually remove scarred or discolored epidermal tissue. When you use a home microdermbrasion system the surface skin cell turnover will be enhanced and the skin will be visibly fresher. Home microdermabrasion creams with active ingredients, are focused on skin renewal and accelerate rebuilding of healthy collagen skin cells after microdermabrasion, laser resurfacing or harsh peels. For depressed scars, such as pitted acne scars, subcision with needles is often used by estheticians to break up the deeply buried scar tissue, and a home microdermabrision system then speeds up new healthy skin remodeling: the orderly process of laying out new collagen and elastin fibers.

what skin care products work best for oily skin?

Emily H

what skin care products work best for oily skin? cleanser, toner, moisturizer, etc. and i also need a moisturizer with sunscreen for daytime.

Answer
If you are grown and experience oily skin, start looking at the products that you are using. The oiliness of your skin is attributed
to hormones and genetics, however, most people who experience very oily skin often have the problem from using too many chemical products. Your skin may be oily because it has been stripped of it's natural moisture. You want to avoid ANY over the counter acne treatment or products for oily skin. These products are alcohol based and will strip your skin's natural oils away. At this point, your body kicks into overdrive. Thinking that your skin is too dry, because the natural oils are gone, your brain tells your body to make more oil. This of course causes your skin to become more oily, and
the cycle never ends. The key to getting rid of oily skin is finding balance. Here's what to do for oily skin:

1) Do not use over the counter acne products (no alcohol or Benzoyl Peroxide)- They will dry your skin causing over-stimulation of the oil glands.

2) Look for products that are natural and contain HIGH concentrations of aloe. It should be in the first 3 to 5 ingredients of any product you buy. **Aloette products are recommended.**

3) Start the following regimen:
*Cleanse with mild cleanser (preferably aloe based).
*Tone (The purpose of a toner is to act as the "rinse cycle" for your face. Everyone should use toner after washing the face to
remove any left over cleansers or dirt. Do not use a toner with alcohol in it. You can buy alcohol free toners or use witch hazel.
It's the perfect natural toner for most skin types.)
*Nourish - Drink Water, take vitamins& zinc, and apply topical vitamin C to your skin.
* Moisturize â There is a difference in Oil and Moisture, your skin needs moisture to be healthy, A good vitamin C cream will
help kill bacteria too.
*Exfoliate â at least 2 times per week- DO NOT let dead skin cells build up on the surface and clog your pores.

I'm a teenager by the way. So my hair grows like a centimeter a year and it's like ear length and I miss my locks :( and my hair just wont grow. My mom thinks it's bogus that I even care so unless the doctor says something about it shes not going to do anything. She's so stubborn! Any remedies or suggestions. And don't tell me to trim it cuz if I trim it it grows way to slow to get longer by doing that

Answer
A doctor MUST BE CRAZY to prescribe teenagers pills to GROW THEIR HAIR.
Hair growth caused other men nationwide in class-action lawsuits. About 1,640,000 results (0.10 second. Jan. 24, 2011.

If you're healthy, & very active, your nails are growing, your hair should be growing RIGHT NOW. If you want perfection, you NEED patience.

Babies can do that, by drinking their milk. . . . so can you, so can any of us without any help. From your: good genes, good hair care and all the healthy foods from Mother Nature, that's where you get all your vitamins & minerals for growing from head to toes. Shampoos are meant for cleaning the hair, not for growing.

If you've straightened your hair in the past, it may grow slowly or none at all.
Google: "Foods for Healthy Hair"http://www.foodforhealthyhair.com/ http://sg.news.yahoo.com/food-for-healthy-hair.html - or 10 Best Foods for Your Hair.
http://www.channelstv.com/home/2012/07/03/10-best-foods-for-your-hair/
NO MATTER which link you picked, they all suggest the same foods. Your hair may be the fastest-growing tissue in the body but, unlike the skin, it cannot repair itself. That is why getting the right balance of vitamins and proteins is imperative. Don't expect to look like you've stepped out of a hair commercial the day after you've changed your diet. It is likely to take at least three months before you actually see tangible results. Hair is dead, but hair also has electrical energy; the negative charge of damaged hair can lead to flyways and unruly hair.

Growing healthy hair doesn't come from a bottle or pills and hair products do not speed hair growth. Any hair oil, is another form to keep hair moisturized, nothing more. If you're in HS, your hair & nails should be growing normally, and as healthily as possible, since you're eating healthy foods. But when hair isn't growing as fast, it's because they've been tampered with: chemicals, hair straightening, etc. . .

Cutting your split ends yourself, spend 5-10 mins. on a sunny day so you can easily spot them, using a 2" scissors, cut strand by strand, section by section, allowing new growth to take over. Then 2x a year, get a good hair cut. This won't speed things up, but it will make the hair look healthier while it's growing. Even healthy hair like mine get them, due to normal brushing & styling. Hormonal changes can have a big effect on hair.

Remember: The hair industry is a billion dollar business, they sell products that cleans & condition the hair. They also sell products that damage and causes hair loss. They also DO NOT give money back guarantee for damaged hair or hair loss due to 'abuse'. Mechanical, chemical, or thermal styling. Hair straighteners and relaxers top the hair products pose the greatest risks. Hair relaxers, related products marketed heavily to African-American women, are dangerous because they may contain powerful chemicals such as lye, a toxic substance also used in drain cleaners.

Man-made products & supplements can do more harm than good.

will spring valley hair skin and nails vitamins work for my hair?

Flower Chi

ok so i recently purchased at Walmart "spring valley hair skin and nails vitamins plus biotin 1000mcg" and i just wanted to know if my hair will grow within 3 or 4 months and how many inches will it grow? (my hair is above my breast) and how many pills am i suppose to take? my hair is semi thin btw, and if you can please give me some tips on how i can speed up the process .. or anything i should know for my hair to growth... (i want it to grown above my belly button by july or august .)

Answer
NEVER take supplements without your doctor's OK.

If you're healthy, & very active, your nails are growing, your hair should be growing RIGHT NOW. My 4 years old grand daughter knows how to let her hair grow. It's almost down to her waist. If you want perfection, you NEED patience. Even anorexic models have long hairs, and they're not considered 'healthy'. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2250422/Frightening-words-4st-anorexic-Valeria-Levitin-gets-FAN-MAIL-shes-thin.html
I was one, and had long hair when I weighed 85 lbs.

But when hair isn't growing as fast, it's because they've been tampered with: chemicals, hair straightening, etc. . .

Watch the movie "Side Effects". Hair products are not made of glue to fix, prevent, reverse hair from getting damaged or hair loss, they are a trillion dollar business and they also do not give money back guarantee for damaged hair or hair loss caused by heat & chemicals - hair's worst enemies.

What juices should i drink for healthy skin?

I have terrible dry skin on my hands and legs ,pink acne scars on my cheeks and an oily forhead.I'm going home for christmas and am goin to wear a beautiful dress that looks great on my skin tone.I just want my skin to glow.I have access to freshly made carrot and orange juices only (no vegetable juice) everyday. Will this help? Also how many glasses a day should I consume. Also whatelse can I do ?

Answer
I am not sure there are any quick fixes for your skin, but there are items that can help in time with both your dry and oily skin areas and with the scars as well. Foremost of all is to incorporate a healthy diet and lifestyle and make sure that you are getting plenty of all the essential vitamins, minerals and other nutrients needed for optimum health - and drink plenty of good, clean water. A great all around nutritional product is IntraMAX, which contains 415 essential nutrients. We take it around here and swear by it. Another good one is Dr. Mercola's Whole Food Multivitamin Plus.

The biotin suggestion is an excellent one. Good supplements for the skin include hyaluronic acid and silica.

Carrot and orange juice are both good choices. Here is some informaton about important juices and other suggestions for you regarding skin health:

Pomegranate - The hundreds of ruby-colored seeds inside pomegranates were once thought to symbolize fertility, and given the fruit's proven powers as a strong antioxidant, it has given birth to a huge number of products, including designer juice and high-end skin-care creams. The pomegranate's power comes from ellagic acid, a type of polyphenol, which is an antioxidant found in red wine and green tea. Antioxidants seek out and neutralize cell-damaging free radicals that come from the environment (pollution, UV rays) and from the body's natural aging process. Ellagic acid has been shown in some studies to neutralize free radicals more effectively than the other polyphenols found in green tea and red wine. It's also more stable in skin-care products than some other antioxidants, like vitamin C, which can lose potency when exposed to light and air.

Grapefruit - Until the 19th century, grapefruit was grown purely as an ornamental fruit. Rarely eaten, it was known only for its looks - an interesting harbinger of its modern-day promise to improve ours. A 2005 study by the Smell & Taste Treatment and Research Foundation, in Chicago, showed that the scent of grapefruit on women made them seem an average of six years younger to men. Grapefruit's main use in skin care, however, is as a citric acid. Like any alpha hydroxy acid, citric acid loosens the bonds between skin cells, allowing dead ones to fall away, revealing smoother, more radiant skin.

Other benefical juices:

* Blackberry juice. The top vitamins for the skin are vitamins A, B2, B3, B6, B12, C and E. Blackberries have all six, including abundant A, C, and E.

* Dark skinned grapes (juice the seeds and all) contain resveratrol, an important compound for anti-aging as well as plenty of vitamin C and ther good vitamins and nutrients.

* Acai - Though terribly over-hyped with some online products and MLM weight-loss schemes, acai is indeed a super healthy juice loaded with anti-oxidants and nutrients that have many benefits, including benefits for the skin.

* Oranges - Besides being loaded with Vitamin C and Vitamin A, a compound found in oranges and other citrus fruits may prevent sun-related damage when applied directly to the skin before sun exposure, say researchers at the Arizona Cancer Center and may have some similar benefits when consumed directly.

* Blueberries are considered to be among the top three healthiest juices, along with pomegranate and acai.

* Raspberries, Dark Cherries, Apple and Strawberry are all very healthy juices loaded with good vitamins and nutrients for the skin and overall health.

* Though not a fruit, carrots and carrot juice are absolutely loaded with vitamin A, which is an essential nutrient in maintaining not only healthy skin, but strong teeth and bones.

Some other skin care suggestions:

* Mushroom - The extract of several Japanese mushrooms has been shown to reduce inflammation, which can affect collagen in the skin and contribute to changes associated with aging, such as the appearance of fine lines. Reducing that inflammation keeps skin cells vital and functioning and also suppresses irritation so that other active ingredients, like antioxidants, can do their jobs. Shiitake mushrooms have multifaceted benefits for the skin. They contain antioxidants that block proteins known to cause cell breakdown; they provide chemical exfoliation; and they also contain kojic acid, which has a lightening effect on age spots and discoloration, making skin appear brighter over time.

* Pumpkin - Despite its prevalence in favorite sweets, such as pies and muffins, pumpkin is quite acidic. And the enzymes in pumpkin act like salicylic acids, chemical exfoliants that encourage skin cells to turn over more rapidly. Pumpkin is also a carotenoid, a derivative of vitamin A, which is indicated by its orange color, and that makes it an antioxidant in addition to having exfoliating properties. Pumpkin seeds are a good source of zinc and have been used as a natural remedy for acne. Studies show that zinc has an effect similar to that of the common antibiotic tetra

What risks are associated with getting my nose pierced?

Angel

I don't care about opinions on how it looks, I want to know what risks go along with getting your nose pierced.

Answer
Well, it all boils down to proper care and chance...

If you take proper care of the piercing, it has a VERY small chance of getting infected, but since the skin is so think there, if it DOES get infected, you need to go to the doctor A.S.A.P. and have it taken care of because if the infection gets in to the cartalige, it can LITERALLY eat your nose...

I had a friend that got an infection in her ear piercing and she lost half her ear to the infection and her doctor said it was like, 12 hours shy of spreading to her blood and killing her...

But other then the small chance of infection, I can't think of a single risk that could go along with that...

The chances of it getting infected are about the same as an infected cuticle... And you take THAT chance all the time.

Sorry, no blood and gore for you in this post! LOL

Is it possible to make and sell homemade skin care products?

Girl Face

Is it possible to sell homemade skin care and beauty products (for example, face wash) on eBay or a similar website as long as I list the ingredients? Can this be done some how? Any first hand advice? Thanks!

Answer
Yes. http://www.sunflowernaturals.com/
I do it all the time.

ADDED:
I haven't had even one complaint, let alone a lawsuit, in over 15 years of selling products. Just make sure you know what you're doing. Natural is easy - most of the ingredients are edible. And there is plenty of scientific evidence to back up the fact that natural works - and works better - than conventional! Once people try my products they never go back to the comparable conventional products.

What type of skin care/face wash should i use?

NIrvana123

What type of face wash or skin care solution should I be using, I use to have very nice skin bit now I have horrible skin. I have acne on my forehead, blackheads on my nose, I have really deep pores around and on my cheeks, dry skin that peels on the creases of my nose and chin, and my forehead is darker then the rest of my face!! I know its horrible, so what should I us?? PLEASE HELP!

Answer
I would suggest you try using Jojoba Oil as it is almost identical organically-speaking to sebum, which is the natural oil produced by your skin. As well as being a great natural moisturizer it can also help with acne, Jojoba Oil penetrates into the skin without clogging pores and is suitable for all skin types it contains vitamin E and antioxidants which are great for fighting aging signs and moisturizing the skin.

Studies on jojoba oil show that it has the ability to prevent skin from becoming too oily. This is due to the fact that putting jojoba oil on our skin can trick our cells into thinking they have produced enough oil.

Remove any surface dirt from your skin, then put just a few drops of jojoba oil into your hand and rub it into your skin when you start to work jojoba oil into the skin, the oil penetrates into the pores. As jojoba closely resembles your skin's own oil, moisturizing with jojoba oil sends the message to your pores to stop overproducing the sebum that causing the oily skin.

Initially to get rid of the stubborn deep blackheads, I would recommend that you use a baking soda/jojoba/water paste with extremely gentle circular massaging motions to break up the worst blackheads. Don't overdo it, just massage in the baking soda/jojoba/water paste gently for a minute or two. Rinse with warm (not hot) water. Apply more jojoba oil and massage with a warm washcloth.

The idea is to get those plugs out (blackheads), and get the jojoba oil in there to keep the sebum liquid and flowing. This may take some time as the skin reacts to drying by pumping out oil, and the turnaround you're going for is a natural distribution of oil which will leave your skin soft and balanced.

For the acne spots\pimples:-

Tea Tree Essential oil it has great on acne as it has antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties. Simply put a couple of drops on a cotton bud and dot onto each spot. Don't use it over your entire face as it can irritate the skin for some people.

Lavender Essential oil has well known antifungal and antiseptic properties and is widely used in treating acne. For that stubborn pimples lavender can be applied neat using a cotton bud or pad. Redness, swelling and irritation will be dramatically reduced.

The Lavender and tea tree if applying to larger areas, should be used in dilution for larger areas, I would recommend between 10-20 drops of essential oil to 50ml of jojoba oil.

Hope this helps!

Short-term consulting project: do I need to charge and pay sales-tax?

For the last two weeks, I have been working for a small company in New York City (Manhattan) doing some consulting work and am unsure as to whether I need to charge my client sales-tax for services rendered. If so, how do I find out who to remit payment to? Thirdly, would it be more commonplace to simply scale back the amount I am charging them to include the sales-tax in the daily rate we originally agreed-upon?

Answer
No.

The city of new york taxes the following:

1. Most tangible personal property (i.e. alcohol, furniture, electronics, etc.);
2. Gas, electricity, refrigeration, steam, telephone, and telegraph services;
3. Detective, cleaning, and maintenance services;
4. Occupancy of hotel and motel rooms;
5. Food and beverages sold by restaurants and caterers;
6. Admission charges to places of amusement;
7. Receipts from beauty, barbering, hair restoring, manicures, pedicures, electrolysis, massage, and other, similar services;
8. Receipts from the sale of services by or use of facilities of weight control salons, health salons, gymnasiums, and similar establishments;
9. Sales of credit rating and credit reporting services;
10. Receipts from the sales of the service of parking, garaging, or storing motor vehicles;

So unless your service is one of the few listed above (like a cleaning or detective work... ) then you don't charge a sales tax... I'm assuming your doing some sort of business type consulting work... in which case your like a lawyer and don't charge a sales or use tax.

How to make people comfortable with my hideous dark circles?

M.M.R

Well I've started to notice how people are treating a friend of mines its like he tries so hard to be nice but people seem to look at him like he's a worthless freak because of his under eye condition... He looks normal i'd say if it wasnt for it but i see people talk to him face to face and just act different like he's a disease. They don't like to look at him in the eye and if they do their kinda hostile to get away from him. Ive heard ppl say he looks like a zombie, freak, like he needs sleep, mean. I guess his conditon makes ppl uncomfortable. I guess its true that people only like beauty and normality. I just want to help em. It seems no matter what he does people just dislike em and become uncomfortable around em here is a photo. What do you guys suggest will make people less focused on his look and be able to look at him without being uncomfortable and looking at him like he's disgusting all the time.

PS Us girls were makeup and i dont think men are supposed to they get picked on if they do.

Here is a photo similar to his look.

Answer
Use an eye cream with caffeine, which helps constrict vessels (try Lancôme Rénergie Microlift R.A.R.E. Intense Repositioning Eye Lifter; $72, lancome-usa.com). Other smart alternatives: Arnica-based creams (found at health-food stores), which are considered to have anti-inflammatory properties, may reduce the appearance of darkness. And eye creams with green tea or grapeseed oil help strengthen capillary walls (try Replenix Intensive Eye Lightening Serum, $61, dermstore.com). You can tweak your diet, too. Flavonol-rich dark chocolate (an ounce a day) and foods full of omega-3 fatty acids (salmon, walnuts) may improve blood flow to the skin, says Lisa Drayer, a registered dietitian in New York City.

Can you eat as much fruit as you want without gaining weight?

Some health movements, like 80/10/10 raw veganism, say that you can eat as much fruits and vegetables as you want and need as long as you stay low on fats. What do you think? I think Dr. Graham says to eat at least 2500 calories a day if you are female.

Anyone have experience on this diet?

Answer
Hi E_J,

â¦after a couple of years of raw food diet experience and research...I can only say:

Yes, you can eat as much fruit as you wish (i.e. carbohydrates - approx. 80%) as long as you stay low on fat (approx. 10%) and protein (approx. 10%). Eating as much greens and vegetables as you can on the raw vegan diet is key also!!!

Because:
Among other issues, fat in your blood can, to some extent, âblockâ proper assimilation of sugar into your body and you can potentially suffer from âsugar hits/highsâ,..., even candida etc.

But if you donât âblockâ yourself with excessive fat/processed food intake your body takes all the nutrition it needs and eliminates what it does not require. Thatâs the beauty of the living foods diet - if done right (e.g. 80/10/10) â you can enjoy tons of yummy raw fruits, veggies and foods without worrying about your figure, ever! :)

In response to âDying to be skinnyâ post, you definitely can get in enough protein (in fact, the quality of the plant protein is much better than the animal protein!), calcium, omega 3s etc. on the raw vegan plant based diet!

Provided that you:
1. eat enough calories (agree with Deirdre on that one; depends on your level of activity â do you exercise a lot / have a sedentary job?).

Itâs easy to get in enough calories on the raw vegan diet.
E.g. 10 bananas = approx. 1000 cal / 2 litres of orange juice = approx. 1000 cal

2. get in loads of greens â they are a fab source of amino acids (i.e. protein), vitamins, minerals, enzymes, phytonutrients, essential acids,â¦

Tip â Get into:
- green juices (loads of greens, some veggies and a bit fruit for taste maybe) for nutrition
- green smoothies - blended greens and fruits â packed with nutrition, calories, fibre,â¦and taste (yum!). Two big green smoothies a day and youâre basically sorted ;)

3. Make sure you eat good variety of raw foods

4. Learn some basic food-combining rules (e.g. starches donât go well with proteins but greens go well with everything)

5. Listen to your body to find out what is the best for YOU, we are all different and so have different needs in different stages of our lives (e.g. as youâll detoxify on the raw food diet over time you will intuitively understand the needs of your body more an more)â¦if unsure, you can always get a simple blood test.

This is a topic for books of material, and I had to keep the very long story short here, but feel free to drop me a line if you have any further questions at all or read more at source below.

Hope that helps! Good luck on your raw food journeyâ¦itâs so worth it! :)

Can You Actually Make A Healthy Chocolate Smoothie?

newadbusys

I sometimes get strong chocolate cravings. I don't like to keep chocolate bars around, due to temptations.

On warm evenings I love smoothies. So, one day I decided to make my regular vanilla smoothie into a chocolate smoothie.
Here is what's in it.
1 apple
1 banana (not very ripe)
soy milk
turbinado sugar
a dash of salt
vanilla xtract
chocolate syrup
Ice of course

This is soooo good. I wonder, is it really good for you.
What do you think?

Answer
instead of using chocolate syrup, try using cocoa, and perhaps whatever sugar substitute if the cocoa needs sweetening. Cocoa has good stuff in it (though don't ask me what cause I can remember....) and plain cocoa is healthier than chocolate syrup. But other than that I think it looks healthy!

http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts/sweets/5472/2
Woo! Check this link out, its got everything nutritional about cocoa!

ok, I just read dark chocolate (maybe melt that for your smoothie instead.) is good and so check out this article!

In its NATURAL state, that is. Chocolate comes from cacao beans, which are extremely nutritious and beneficial to your health! Let's go over some benefits of CACAO, courtesy of LiveSuperFoods.com.

Many people consider eating chocolate a âguilty pleasure.â But the reputation of chocolate as a junk food should more accurately be attributed to the harmful effects of commercial processing and refining techniques, and the other ingredients commonly added, most notably white sugar. All chocolate is made from the cacao (cocoa) bean, and cacao beans in their natural, unprocessed, unadulterated state are rich in nutrients and beneficial to health.

Why Unprocessed Chocolate is Good for You

Antioxidants: Cacao has more antioxidant flavonoids than any food tested so far, including blueberries, red wine, and black and green teas. In fact, it has up to four times the quantity of antioxidants found in green tea. Health benefits of these antioxidants include:

* Promote cardiovascular health - Help dilate bloods vessels, reduce blood clotting, improve circulation, help regulate heartbeat and blood pressure, lower LDL cholesterol, and reduce the risk of stroke and heart attacks.
* Protect from environmental and metabolic toxins - Help repair and resist damage caused by free radicals, and may reduce risk of certain cancers.

Neurotransmitters: By increasing the levels of specific neurotransmitters in our brains, cacao promotes positive outlook, facilitates rejuvenation and simply helps us feel good.

* Serotonin - Cacao raises the level of serotonin in the brain; thus acts as an anti-depressant, helps reduce PMS systems, and promotes a sense of well-being.
* Endorphins - Cacao stimulates the secretion of endorphins, producing a pleasurable sensation similar to the ârunnerâs highâ a jogger feels after running several miles.
* Phenylethylamine - Found in chocolate, phenylethylamine is also created within the brain and released when we are in love. Acts as mild mood elevator and anti-depressant, and helps increase focus and alertness.
* Anandamide - Anandamide is known as the âbliss chemicalâ because it is released by the brain when we are feeling great. Cacao contains both N-acylethanolamines, believed to temporarily increase the levels of anandamide in the brain, and enzyme inhibitors that slow its breakdown. Promotes relaxation, and helps us feel good longer. (Also, cacao contains inhibitors that slow down the natural breakdown of anandamide, which in turn makes this natural 'good' feeling last longer.)

Essential Minerals: Cacao beans are rich in a number of essential minerals, including magnesium, sulfur, calcium, iron, zinc, copper, potassium and manganese.

* Magnesium - Cacao seems to be the #1 source of magnesium of any food. Magnesium balances brain chemistry, builds strong bones, and helps regulate heartbeat and blood pressure. Magnesium deficiency, present in 80% of Americans, is linked with PMT, hypertension, heart disease, diabetes and joint problems.
* Sulfur - Cacao is high in the beauty mineral sulfur. Sulfur builds strong nails and hair, promotes beautiful skin, detoxifies the liver, and supports healthy pancreas functioning.

Essential fats: There is a misperception that chocolate is fattening. In truth, the fats in cocoa butter are healthy fats. Cacao contains oleic acid, a heart-healthy monounsaturated fat, also found in olive oil, that may raise good cholesterol. Also, substances found in cacao are known to help reduce appetite.

Important note - To fully benefit from chocolateâs wide array of nutrients, eat chocolate that is as close to its natural state as possible. Whole cacao beans and nibs are best. You lose many of the health benefits when you eat commercially produced chocolate.

How to get through financial hardship?

skin care 1 month before marriage on Knit Jones: January 2009
skin care 1 month before marriage image

Kristy

I need people to teach me how not to think about leaving my husband, who's been sitting on his ass at home for 2 years now & doesn't try hard to look for a job.

We're married for 5 yrs now & we know each other for 13 yrs. I knew he has a lazy personality, but I didn't know it could get this bad. Aside from unemployment, he doesn't help much around the house & I have a very busy life style (1st yr medicine intern in a hospital). If I don't prepare his meals, he would buy meals from fast food store or order pizzas. That can be expensive & unhealthy. He would leave the sink full of dishes for 2 or 3 days unless I ask him to clean it. Imaging me working 12 hrs in the hospital, and when I get home, there's nothing to eat, laundry is not done, and the sink is full.
Recently we moved to another city. After paying for all the expenses (moving company, change car registration & insurance, new place grocery shopping, order internet service....), my little saving is about to empty, while he sits on his $12000 cash saving that he never touches or offers to pay anything. So last night I told him to pay the next month's rent before I get my first paycheck because otherwise my account would be overdrafted.

His area is finance, and it's difficult to find a job right now. I don't want to push him but in the past two years, I don't think he sent out more than 5 resumes, but he said he looks for jobs when I'm not looking. (What's up with that?) We have more frequent small arguments recently, mainly because I'm under financial stress.
Should I push him to get a "whatever" job just to bring in some money?

He is a very nice guy. He would get up 3 in the morning just to kill a cockroach for me. He's very patient & has a good temper. I believe no one else would love me as much as he does. However, recently, for a few times, I have thought about him as a parasite living off me. He says he loves me all the time for the past 13 yrs, but he doesn't share any responsibility as a married couple. He gave me 2 gifts in 13 yrs, I paid for my own wedding ring, and now I'm down to "can't afford my regular skin care products". I lowered my living standard even further to cover expenses for both of us. Every time when I see my colleages (successful, ambitious, young doctors), I wonder why would I marry my husband. I should have waited.

I want some advise on how "not to think about him negatively" & what to do to help him get a job. Now I kinda regret marrying him.

Answer
Deposit your paycheck. Pay the rent and utilities. Then take the rest out in cash. When he goes to get money for fast food, the account will be empty. Let the house go to crap for 2 full weeks.

If he doesn't keep the house cleaned up, you tell him you don't know if the marriage can last like this. You can understand him "having trouble finding a job," but while he is out of work, keeping the house in order is his sole responsibility.

Someone once told me this, and I don't agree with them...?

Gratefully

That having a kid before marriage means that I'm easy with men. I don't agree. Here's my history:

I've had three boyfriends total. The first one, we were together six months. I was 16. We did "stuff" but I never let him have sex with me. Eventually it ended. I was single till I turned 20. I went to a party and was drinking and a guy took advantage of me being drunk. I had sex with him. I don't count him as a boyfriend though. Second boyfriend I was with for almost a year and I didn't have sex with him until 9 months into the relationship. The next boyfriend, I was almost 22. He proposed to me, We were together 4 years, and i didn't have sex with him til at least a year into the relationship. And I didn't get pregnant until 3 yrs into it, and now I have a 1 yr old. So I want to know.. Do I sound easy to anyone?
I'm 25 now.
Marylin, i agree with you, and I wished I hadn't. Maybe that's why I waited so long... I mean I was 21 before I even had a real boyfriend... But things happen, and if you ask me i think most people have broken that rule. But thank you.

Answer
No. In fact you sound way too difficult.

But the real question is why you care so much about what some clueless person thinks? I don't know what this person did to get under your skin like this but let go of it. It doesn't mater.

What's a good skin care routine to achieve smooth, healthy, and flawless skin?

I have couple blackheads here and there, along with some whiteheads. My skin type is a combination of dry, and oily. I'm tired of having acne, it's so frustrating to deal with. My confidence level has dropped down a lot. I need help. So, what's a good skin care routine to achieve smooth, healthy, and flawless skin?

Thanks for answering!
I'm 13 by the way.

Answer
**I had a hypersensitive, fair skin in my early teens. My skin was dry and severely flaking, had severe sun damage, discolorations, blotches, large pores, many blackheads and whiteheads, pimples and scars. I found cause was mainly harsh soaps and also shampoos that gave me severe flaking scalp and harmed facial skin. I switched to hair and face washing with a mild natural bar soap with no additives, no colorings, no fragrances and healing started. Healing was very much hastened by vigorous massaging with essential oils. To do vigorously first tighten face by opening mouth 3/4" and pulling lips firmly back against teeth. Do a forward and back massage with tips and front and sides of fingers and palms, depending where on face applying. Circular massage is not effective. Gradually build up to vigorous as skin has to adjust. Initially face and hands may ache but also quickly adjust. If do a daily 30 min massage(can be in two or more sessions) you will get dramatic results. In first few days blackheads, whiteheads and pores will vanish or greatly diminish. Skin will quickly become smoother, softer, tighter and look and feel revitalized and develop a healthy glow. Keep it up and It will become totally blemish free. Oils are perfect moisturizers so do not remove. Lightly wash off excess with water and dab dry with tissues.
Treatment also cured skin hyper sensitivity.
We are always being told that high spf sunscreens are bad for skin. After massaging with oil, apply sunscreen on top of oil. The oil acts as a barrier. Surprisingly it is equally if not more effective. I often spend many hours a day in blistering Mexican sun with just one application of spf 15 and never burn.
OILS: I had great results with olive. Best for some acne prone skins are lavender, rosewood, bergamot. They do not clog, cause breakouts and they lessen skin's production of oils. They are strong and need diluting 25/75 or 50/50 with grapeseed, almond or olive oil.
Many have benefited on Answers from treatment. Here is a report from one of them.

wannabeblue28: "Hi Mukunda M. I have just been rubbing my face and neck with the ridges of my fingers and hands. It has made a HUGE difference in my complexion after just one night. ...... my skin looks so much tighter and i no longer have bags under my eyes! Thank you so much for your post, I have been suffering with acne and under-eye circles since i was young."

What's the difference between sunscreen and SPF? And SPF 30 and SPF 15?

Monica

I was reading up on sunscreen protection and I'm a bit confused. I'm not sure if its because I'm over thinking it or what, but here's what I don't get. What is the difference between sunscreen protection such as brands like banana boat and coppertone to brands like neutrogena and Olay moisturizing skin care lotion with SPF 30 in it? Why can't people just use sunscreen/ sunblock and apply a moisturing lotion over or under it for their skin needs. Isn't SPF already in sunblock as well as UVA and UVB.

Also I'm confused with the whole SPF 15 and SPF 30. Why the different numbers?
I ask cause I want to take better care of my skin now and do prevention.
Can't you wear sunblock even when your not going to the beach or go tanning?

Answer
SPF refers to the ability of a sunscreen to block ultraviolet B (UVB) rays, which cause sunburns, but not UVA rays, which are more closely linked to deeper skin damage. Both UVA and UVB contribute to the risk of skin cancer.
The SPF rating is a measure of the time it would take you to sunburn if you were not wearing sunscreen as opposed to the time it would take with sunscreen on.
"SPF is not a consumer-friendly number," says Florida dermatologist James M. Spencer, MD. "It is logical for someone to think that an SPF of 30 is twice as good as an SPF of 15 and so on. But that is not how it works."
According to Spencer, an SPF 15 product blocks about 94% of UVB rays; an SPF 30 product blocks 97% of UVB rays; and an SPF 45 product blocks about 98% of rays.

Likely I'll get cancer after shingles?

I just got shingles and the doctor prescribed me meds (Mylan 302). Thats not really the issue.... I could care less about the shingles and how bad they hurt. My family has a history of cancer, my dad died of skin cancer and so did my grandfather. Am I next? I know my immune system is weak and that why i got the shingles but is is Likely I'll get cancer because my immune system is weak now?

Answer
Tarkarri lined up the nails and neatly hit them all on the head, as usual.

Shingles does not cause cancer, but cancer can cause some people to have shingles. Though there is growing evidence that some viruses increase the risk of developing certain type of cancer, I don't believe the varicella zoster virus that is like the mothership shingles is spawned from is one of them. Shingles is basically chicken pox transformed. When you were infected with the varicella zoster virus as a kid you had chicken pox, and even after you recovered from it the virus hid out in your body waiting to be activated and spring up as shingles. Most often, it's advanced age that causes the virus to wake up and wreak more havoc, but a weakened immune system and even stress can cause it.
An otherwise healthy immune system can become weakened by a temporary illness, sleep deprivation, or a host of other problems not related to cancer. A severe vitamin D deficiency can be a contributing factor for shingles, so if you haven't already had your levels tested you might want to do so. Ask your doctor about ways you can fortify your immune system.

People who are in active treatment for cancer are sometimes more vulnerable to shingles because their immune systems are compromised. Some types of cancer, such as Hodgkin's Lymphoma, put people at a higher risk of getting recurrent cases of shingles even after they are in remission. But you don't really need to worry about any of that right now. Just focus on riding out the shingles storm. I wrote a couple of answers about dealing with the pain of shingles and treating the scars they can leave behind last year, and I'm posting the links below in case they're of interest to you. Shingles does suck. I've had them three times now, but there are things you can do to alleviate the pain and speed up healing.

Can someone help me find a good skin care line?

Csi Fan 33

Hi I'm 24 years old
I just need to find an inexpensive product to sort of give me a fresh look. I have noticed fine lines around my eyes and some flaky skin.
I cant afford micro derm abrasion. I was thinking of product I could maybe buy at walmart. Any suggestions on stuff that actually works?
Thank you so much for the help!

Answer
Aveeno or Nuetrogena are good, but not for really dry skin. I have extremely dry, flaking skin on my face and they help, but dont do the trick completely.

There is a new product out call yes to carrots that I have been thinking about trying. It has gotten good reviews. It is only available through Walgreens, but if you dont have one in your area you can order it off of their website.

I'm 21 and I want to institute a skin care regimen early so that I can prevent the wrinkles my mother already has in her late 40s. What is the best way to do this? What are the best budget-friendly products for the job? Thanks!

Answer
The BEST thing you can do is avoid the sun. Sunscreen, SPF 30. Sun and cigarettes are the #1 cause of wrinkles.

Olay's regenerist products are a bit pricey, but in the long run, they work very well.

Keeping your skin moisturized is the first step. SPF moisturizers are a 2-in-1 miracle shield against wrinkles.

Also, to avoid making wrinkle-prone faces, wear sunglasses when daylight. You'd be amazed at the creases you can get from squinting.

What is the difference between esthiology and esthetics?

Right now I am interested in going to Aveda institute and they listed the variety of programs the have. I'm interested in skin care and I know those two are about skin care, but why are they two separate programs? Please someone explain the difference, it will greatly help.

Answer
Aesthetics is a branch of philosophy dealing with the nature of beauty, art, and taste, and with the creation and appreciation of beauty.

Esthiology professionals provide advanced spa services, including facials, hydrotherapy, body treatments, massage therapy, laser hair removal, traditional hair removal services and skin care consultations.
