What is the best skin care regimen for normal skin?

MauiShaveI

I need a good, 3 step skin care regimen without Salicylic Acid. Help!

Answer
Hello,

I'm confused by your question. You use the word normal skin and salicylic acid at the same time. I'm going to guess you used something for acne that contained salicylic acid and it didn't work well for you.

I would like to know what your skin is like. Do you have any issues? i.e. Dull looking, brown spots, red/irritated, crepey looking skin, crows feet, fine lines, deep lines, or large pores. We're so conditioned to talk about our skin in terms of oily or dry or normal that we lose sight of the issues that bother us.

Feel free to expand upon your question more, so I can give you a precise answer or try the Free skin tool listed in the reference source below. Most people have something they don't like about their skin, so let's start with that.

How to find t in a compound interest equation? Different form of the original, includes k?

silk

The equation is B = {A[(1+r/n)^nt -1}/1-(1+r/n)^-n/k.
I know that finding the equation for t (all the other variables are solved for) involves using natural log (ln), but I can't figure it out for the life of me. Anybody help?

How can I get straight hair, without damaging my hair?

Labels:

Kerri

I have thick and extremely curly hair. I would love to have straight hair, just because it's easier to take care of, and so when I wear it down there's not so much body that it looks like a touched an electrical wire. I have had people recommend Brazilian Blowouts (but of heard some not so friendly reviews about them), Natural Perms (Heard it could permanently damage my hair), and I would rather not straighten it every morning. Help? Any tips or personal experience out there? I don't want to do something that I'll regret later!

Answer
I DO NOT recommend Brazilian Blowout.
Hair straighteners are known as hair relaxers, keratin treatments and hair-smoothing products. They work by breaking and reforming the chemical bonds in keratin, which is the main protein that gives shape to each hair.

> > > > BRAZILIAN BLOWOUT HAD BEEN BANNED by the Food & Drug Adm. Sept. 12, 2011.

Google: keratin treatment warnings. About 2,620,000 results (0.36 seconds) 6-24-12.
1-23-12. and Google: Lawsuits Brazilian Blowouts. About 1,010,000 results (0.24 seconds)
In Sept. the federal government put out a hazard alert about the hair-smoothing treatment, Brazilian Blowout etc. warning that it contains liquid formaldehyde that can turn into formaldehyde gas when heated during a treatment. Now, the company's bottles of solution carry a warning label to alert stylists to the potential formaldehyde risk and the need to perform the treatment in a well-ventilated area. The manufacturer said Monday (3-6-12) that it had agreed to settle a class-action lawsuit for about $4.5 million.

The FDA has previously received complaints that the products cause adverse reactions, including nervous system problems such as headaches, respiratory tract problems, nausea, chest pain, vomiting and rashes.
12-12-12

Hair-straightening products are allowed to contain small concentrations of formaldehyde (0.2 percent). But several hair-straightening solutions have been found to contain well above the allowable limit. For example, one popular hair-straightening product that advertised itself as âformaldehyde-freeâ actually contained 6.8 percent to 11.8 percent formaldehyde.
Another example: Fourteen women, including two from North Texas and one from Houston, are suing Unilever, the maker of a product they claim caused permanent damage to their hair.
"It transforms frizzy, unmanageable hair into hair that's sleeker and easier to style," said the commercial for the Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion 30-Day Smoothing Kit, which is no longer being sold
When she began looking online for more information about the product, she said she found some people who said it worked, but more who said it damaged their hair.
She discovered a Facebook page devoted to angry consumers, and there are multiple postings on YouTube. I've been warning people about relaxers since 2009 and people are giving me thumbs down!
BTW: A variety of hair-straightening products used in professional salons can expose both hairdressers and their customers to formaldehyde. The results show that three professional hair-smoothing treatments labeled "formaldehyde free" can produce the cancer-causing chemical at concentrations above the occupational exposure limits set by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. They tested four products: Coppola Keratin Complex Blonde Formula, Global Keratin Juvexin Optimized Functional Keratin, La Brasiliana Escluso Keratin Treatment with Collagen, and Brazilian Blowout Acai Professional Smoothing Solution. While ChemRisk tested four popular brands of hair straighteners, THERE ARE HUNDREDS on the market. Nov. 11-11

By contrast, beauty salon owners and stylists generally lack a scientific background and don't have a keen awareness of the danger of working with products that contain formaldehyde, experts say.

Watch: Good Hair a documentary by Chris Rock 2009 on BET or HBO. According to Tyra Banks, 80% of the black population are part of the billion dollar hair industry. Clips on youtube videos, also.

Chemicals can enter the body through the skin.

"As a teenager my hair was pretty frizzy and more damaged," says Natalie Coughlin, a 11-time Olympic medalist for USA Swimming (3 Gold, 4 Silver, and 4 Bronze), who's one-quarter Filipino. She credits a healthful diet, good hair-care products and working with instead of against her hair type for her healthy mane. "It's important that hairstylists shape my layers so that when I do wear it wavy and play up my natural curls it looks good," Coughlin says, adding that leave-in conditioner makes her frizz more manageable.
"But as I've gotten older I've learned to really embrace my hair's natural waves and natural texture rather than constantly straightening it," she says. Use gel like Samy when your hair is damp, scrunch your hair and let air dry, or blow dry using a diffuser concentrating @ the roots. Finger comb, tousle or shake your hair and you're good to go. In the morning, instead of washing them again, spray with water & conditioner, scrunch with your fingers and you're done.

How to get rid of a pimple quick?

as.a

I have pretty clear skin. I alternate every other night, either the Neutrogena wave vibrating thing, or cleanser/toner/moisturizer. But I get the occasional few pimples. I usually get them around my nose or in the crease of my chin.

How do I either take away the redness, or kill the pimple by tomorrow? They're pretty minor.

Both contain salicylic acid which prevents breakouts and gradually evens the skin tone out too. This is the most important thing you can do. Iâve tried various âoil freeâ/âsalicylic acidâ moisturisers but the best Iâve found is the clean and clear onâ¦I found the Neutrogena one actually seemed to aggravate my skin.

Can I reduce the chance of hair loss like how women reduce the chance of wrinkles?

I read about a year ago women can reduce their chances of facial wrinkles by applying cream early before the wrinkles starts to develop.
Can this apply to men too in terms of hair loss?
Would any damage be done if I used products from Hair Club for Men right now to reduce the chances of hair loss later on?
Does the Hair Club for Men work and is it obvious that a person is using their products?

Answer
You can! Find out what, when, why and HOW and your hair will improve by eliminating the 'cause'.

Reasons why that might have happened, below is a short form of why.

1. During the last 3 years, OK 2, how have you been styling or have you been straightening & dyeing or highlighting your hair?
Google FDA website Hair dye & relaxers. Those are 75% the reason why.

2. Have you been taking supplements or using hair oil? Supplements ($42 billions are wasted and could hurt your lungs, liver, organs even HAIR LOSS). FDA has found that from face creams to soaps and other items of personal care, cosmetics companies are taking the general public for a ride. Oil could be coming from eels or shark. Another 5% why. CNN, Slate, Consumer Reports, MSN, YAHOO have posted them online for years how people spend $20 billion per year on vitamins and supplements.  According to Everyday Health, here's an article that will tell you why . . . those PRODUCTS by any other name do NOT WORK.  It is false advertisements. Google: Are Supplements Good For You? About 7,430,000 results (0.15 seconds) Google: Are vitamins & supplements good for you? About 4,250,000 results (0.14 seconds) Some can actually shorten your life! The Food & Drug do not approve of them!

3. Have you been stressed out or changed your diet? Genetics of balding runs in your family? Another 10% why.

4. Have you been taking medications with testosterone, certain antidepressants, menopause, anti-acne? Even birth control pills can cause hair loss. The medication most often prescribed for thyroid disorders can actually cause hair loss. Another 10% why you have hair falls.
Eliminate the cause and your hair will improve.

5. Google "Boise teen goes on Today Show to talk about losing her hair." She's got Alopecia 100% why you have hair loss.

Dove hairfall facts:
1. Humidity makes hair dry and brittle, leading to hairfall
2. Colouring the hair damages the hair strands leading to breakage
3. Pollution is also an unseen killer of healthy hair
4. Tangled hair is the most common reason for hair fall
5. While shampooing cleanses your hair, regular conditioning is required for adequate moisturization. Regular use of conditioner post shampoo also solves the problem of entangling which is the major cause of hairfall.

Eliminate cause and your hair will improve. Not overnight, it could take weeks, months, even years, since it took that long to start the hair loss.

If you think they're from your beauty or hair products:
Take it back to where you bought it.
Stop using it ASAP.
You are encouraged to report negative side effects of prescription drugs & cosmetics to the FDA. Visit the FDA MedWatch website or call 1-800-FDA-1088.

Google: Glossary of Hair Loss Terms. There are 179 entries in this glossary. Stress is just one of the 179 listed.
Again, a simple rule of thumb: Look for the American Hair Loss Association seal when considering purchasing any product or service to treat your hair loss.

Why are people so disappointed when you tell them they have a domestic shorthair cat?

Lisa

It seems like people are let down, and don't think that a DSH is "special enough," or something. Some people even get mad and refuse to accept it. Why do you think this is?

Answer
Hi Lisa,

I am with you on this one as I scratch my head in amazement, along with you.

Domestic Shorthairs are actually one of the hardiest and most intelligent of all domestic felines, and in fact have been used in breeding programs to enhance the health, beauty and color patterns of many breeds when they were started.

So as far as I am concerned it is ignorance about the DSH, and an eliteist attitude which is responsible for their "disappointment. Many years ago the CFA stud book was open, and people who owned "common" shorthaired house cats could register them as American Shorthairs, to enrich the gene pool.

Wikipedia has a short and interesting description of the DSH.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domestic_shorthair

An interesting factoid to share with disbelivers is the Ragdoll breed which Ann Baker of California created , originated with free roaming street cats, so those beauties carry genetic material of "plain" domestics.

There are so many gorgeous shorthair and long hair domestic cats so the folks who react negatively and denigrate them are, in my opinion, "snobs".

Hope this helps, and great question!!! I had to give you a star for it.

How long should I wait before I bleach and redye my hair?

About two weeks ago I dyed my hair a dark brown.
Now I want to bleach only one side of my hair and dye it hot pink.
I don't want my hair to fall out so how long should I wait before I get all that done?
Also should I bring my own pink dye and if so what's the brand and all that you think would work best?

Answer
Call the 1-800# found on the box of dye or email them, (to find #, go online & search the brand if you don't have the box) they're the hair color experts they can advice you best.

Google FDA.gov & search for Hair Dye & Relaxers.

Playing with chemicals is not like playing with clothes, there are penalties for playing chemicals in the lab. Even hair color experts at the salon are not rocket scientists, they do a bang up dye jobs to their clients or their own hair.

I've responded to many girls (guys now too) under 15 experiencing in hair loss since 2009, due to hair straightening, relaxers and hair dyes. Women 60-90 have those same symptoms but it took them years to get there. But for 15 & under, giving advice here? They can't predict the future of their hairs, until they're in their 30's, but 15 & under with hair loss? C'mon! I've responded 7 in 2 hours 9-3-10, (before school started) 4 in 1hour 3-5-11 alone. Google the FDA website & search for Hair Dye & Relaxers.

One example of hair loss on a 16 years old.
I'm 16 years old, i don't really die my hair that much i probably died it like twice this whole year. well i lose soooo much hair EVEY SINGLE DAY, i lose soo much, that I'm literally almost bald :,( my doctor said she thinks its some kind of hormone change, then my hairstylist says its because its waaay to dry, but idk what it is because it wont stop falling out!!! It might be because i use to straighten it when i had mouse in it, but that was like 2 years ago.. helpp!!!

Another example: Before i dye my hair, my hair is so healthy and thick, but now after i dye my hair , my hair becoming disaster... my hair doesn't health like before! my hair loss LOT! i tried to try all kind of shampoo!

Another example, ? about her age:
"I recently decided to dye my hair. I didn't like the first color so I dyed it again a week later. Then I permed it 4 weeks later, now its really dry and brittle and falls out everywhere, it comes out in chucks when I comb it or even wash."

When it does that, it is too late to do anything about it. That's another reason why the hair industry is a billion dollar business, their main job is to make tons of money and they do not give money back guarantee for damaged hair or hair loss, due to 'abuse'.

Google hair dyes & cancer spec. black hair dyes which is made from tar. Some people smoke & tan all their lives and do not get cancer. But there are 2nd hand & 3rd hand smoke who are now carrying their oxygen tank so they can breath or have cancer. Same with hair dyes. If you're not affected today, or next month, you may never be affected and you're one of the lucky ones. It doesn't take overnight, it takes years of hair experimentation with hair dyes.
Google: Hair Dye FAQ's Are Hair Dyes Safe?

Here's a new article I found re: henna, which is supposed to be better for you than reg. box dye. It's a good read! Google: Henna for Hair

One example on someone who had re-bleached her hair now they're falling out.

I know hair. I have over 4 decades of hair know-how. I have silky, shiny, soft, smooth very healthy hair down to my knees. Previously damaged by perming & dyeing in the 80's & 90's. I've known people in their 30's whose hair stopped growing from ironing their hair in the 70's.

How old should i be to become a beauty guru?

Gloria

I want to become a beauty guru but i feel that i'm too young. I'm 13 do you think its to young? If you do then what age do you think i should be come one? Thanks in advance:)

Answer
My favorite beauty gurus on Youtube (KandeeJohnson, Rachhloves & DulceCandy87) are the girls who are a bit older, Rachel is 26, Kandee in her 30's and DucleCandy is in her late 20's as well I believe.
I think I like these ones the best because they have more life experience to offer and have more experience with how to do hair and makeup that looks great.
This does not mean that there aren't any good, teenage gurus out there. I love LaVivaBeauty, CityandMakeup and iheartmakeup92.

I think 13 might be a bit too young... You could try, I just think at least 16 is a good age.
You have to remember that yes they get noticed, can become pretty well known and get tons of views, but they also recieve a lot of criticism. People will straight up say you are ugly, or, this looks terrible (I've seen it!) So prepare yourself for that. Immediately delete these comments (maybe set it to where you have to approve a comment before it shows up on the feed) and block them.

Tell people exactly what your mission is with your channel, do you want to focus on one thing more than another like makeup, hair, or fashion? A little of everything? You don't even have to limit yourself to beauty videos, people including me love DIY, fitness/health and inspirational videos!
Having a catchy username helps (one that people will remember), and using a high quality camera makes a huge difference!!! You also need to know how to edit videos.

Good luck with everything, and when and if you do create a channel be it tomorrow or 3 years from now, send me a link to it, I will support you! <3

What is a good skin care product for dark, puffy under eye circles?

sweetheart

I have very noticeable dark circles that are puffy as well, causing me to always wear makeup.
ALSO : my skintone on my face is very uneven !!!! I want it to all be the same color and look smooth and even !
PLEASE PLEASE give me a skin care product that will fix my dark circles and make my skintone more even. SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY PLEASE !!!
Thank you :))

Answer
Well, this is tricky because a lot of people think they have dark circles, but it's really not it at all.

The best way to fix them is with a good concealer. It's not a secret for celebrity makeup articles.

There is one study that claims vitamin K and retinol can help, but the results aren't stellar.

Don't gets your hopes up.

Which skin care products work the best?

Tiffany

In your own opinion, or from what you might have heard from family or friends, which skin care products work best? (More specifically, which one has the best facial cleansers?) Nivea, Olay, Neutrogena, Clean and Clear, etc. Not necessarily an acne regimen, just a regular facial cleanser. Thanks in advance!

Answer
None of the above.

Best selling, but they come back on YA Beauty & Style to discuss why they have acne.

The less products you use, the better for your skin. Some skin and hair care products can cause acne. To help prevent and control acne flare-ups, take good care of your skin. For example, use a mild soap or cleanser to gently wash your face twice a day. Choose ânon-comedogenicâ make-up and hair care products. This means that they don't close up the pores. I use a bath wash like Suave Bath & Body Gel, use a washcloth. Treat your face like the rest of your body, take a shower everyday or wash your face everyday.

The secret is keeping your face clean and oil-free. I also don't use liquid on my face for anything, and very little moisturizer, not even a dime size. Since my face is not dry. Good skin also comes from your good genes. Increase your fresh fruits & vegetables 3-5 servings per day. And programmed your mind to do this day after day, for the rest of your life.

Acne medication could worsen what ever allergies you have, so instead of trying out one product after another, you're actually spreading it around. Example: ProActiv contains a known carcinogen, at a percentage known to promote skin cancer.

Smoking has been shown to make acne worse since it diminishes the delivery of oxygen to the skin and robs it of nutrients, thereby inhibiting cars from healing. Not enough reason to quit? Smoke depletes moisture, making skin lose its luster and look wrinkly.

The beauty industry is a billion dollar business, they know acne is everyone's problem, but instead of saying soap is drying for you, they have to invent an acne product that can worsen the skin as MANY TEENAGERS have experienced during hormonal change, but as you get older those are completely a waste of time & money!

The FDA has called for more safety studies on benzoyl peroxide because of concern about what happens when skin treated with it is exposed to the sun. Until research can establish or disprove a possible skin cancer link to the use of benzoyl peroxide products, the agency plans to require an extra warning and directions on the labeling: "When using this product, avoid unnecessary sun exposure and use sunscreen." and "If going outside, use a sunscreen. Allow [product name] to dry, then follow directions in the sunscreen labeling. If irritation or sensitivity develops, discontinue use of both products and consult a doctor."
