What's the deal with getting a colon cleanse? Would it be worth the money or is just a fad?

Labels:

beauty and health deals on American Etiquette And Rules Of Politeness: Walter Raleigh Houghton ...
beauty and health deals image

Mary Ann

I heard that the average person has anywhere from 5 to 15 pounds of fecal matter build up inside their colon! (YUCK) and that a colon cleansing can get rid of that. Is that true or just junk science?

Also, if a colon cleansing is worth the money, do you have to go to a doctor to get one done or can you buy something at a drug store or health food store and do it yourself?

Thanks for any help and / or advice.

Answer
As I understand it (not that I've had it done or anything) it is more than just a fad. It is meant to be VERY good at getting rid of toxins which will make your body much more vibrant and healthy, better digestion, better skin, better flow (blood and waste), you should feel less sluggish and more 'on the go'.

However it is expensive and it only really has long term benefits if you get colonic cleansing on a regular basis - like once a year.

I am a little shy of it but if I had more money and knew I could keep up the annual payments then I would try it as I believe it to be very beneficial.

Where to get it done? I'm not sure - I think most beauty salons would do it. Perhaps some private doctors/health clinics too? I don't know how to advise where you find out the best one in your area. Google's always good but as for reviews? Who knows?

Good luck!

How do I deal with my emotions after drastic weight gain?

Leilah

I need help dealing with my emotions in healthy ways while I transition from the weight I am currently at back down to my goal weight. I'm 21 years old and in the course of four years, I gained 140 pounds due to a couple of medical conditions. I went three years with undiagnosed hypothyroidism and also suffer from PCOS(poly-cystic ovarian syndrome). I finally found out about my thyroid after I discovered a mass in my throat. I was gaining weight so rapidly and I became severely depressed and the weight gain honestly changed who I was as a person. I completely changed my lifestyle. I stopped going out, stopped seeing friends and family, and isolated myself most of the time. I didn't feel like I was even worthy as a person anymore. I know beauty and being considered "beautiful" isn't just about physical appearance, but the shame I felt from my weight was so overwhelming that it masked who I was on the inside. Especially because not even 5 years ago, I was a healthy and active person who enjoyed life and was fearless. I'm beginning my weight loss journey and I'm on a mission to find the old me again. I'm finally going on the right medications to help with my health problems and to help me get my life back. I just need some extra confidence and support. Nobody understands what i'm going through and how this has honestly affected every single aspect of my life. I have felt like a prisoner in my own body for the past 4 years. I miss feeling good about myself and not having constant worries. Looking back on old pictures is so painful. I miss the girl in those photos and most of all I miss that sparkle in my eyes. Anybody who has gained weight or even somebody who is beginning a weight loss journey of any kind, I'm open to any advice you are willing to give. Thank you all sooo much in advance and take care! xxoo Leilah

what is the absolute best skin care routine for teenage skin that tends to get oily but can also be sensitive?

Ummm

i want perfect skin! now my skin gets really oily. i use murad products and dont have real acne problems but i do break out say, maybe 3 in a month? so i dont have super great skin, but it's so close! any advice or tips? how does witch hazel work?
i just want a flawless face

Answer
OK! This is what I do to keep my flawless skin!

1) Wet your face with cold water
2) Take Clinque face wash and just a little dab
3) Gently scrub over face
4) Splash face with cold water ( NO HOT! CAN DAMAGE AND MAKE MORE ACNE )
5) Then right before going to bed just a couple dabs of Proactive Acne control!

These 5 steps should work!
I also use clarox which is a home laser device that practically skims of acne on your skin! I have a clear face and you will too! GOOD LUCK!

How can I fight the effects that caffeine has on my skin?

Katie

I have read that caffeine is the worst thing for your skin. Problem is, I work a full time job and take classes at night. I know this sounds bad, but I pretty much depend on the stuff to keep me going. I was wondering if their were any skin-care products on the market right now that help combat the effects of caffeine on your skin? Thanks.

Answer
1] limit caffeine to two to three a day
2] drink 1/2 gallon water a day
3] take a good multivitamin with minerals
4] avoid fried, fast, and junk food - even diet junk food
5] follow a good skin care regimen ; wash, tone, sunscreen in AM; wash, tone, moisturize at night
6] exfoliate two to three times a week

Is it rude not to purchase products in a free skin care application?

Ezgi

A famous skin care brand has a free application near me and I am wondering if it is rude to go take the service and not to buy anything?

Answer
Not rude, but it's kind of disappointing for the makeup artist/applicator because s(he) is expecting you to be a consumer. That is why it's recommended you leave a tip if you don't have enough money to buy the products. Tip like you're in a restaurant for a single small meal, then thank her/him for the good job, ask a couple samples to test a bit more by yourself and say you're looking forward to buy the products within a few days if your skin goes well with them.

Which is more important for skin? The health or the skin care product?

skin care institute on The SKIN & PERMANENT MAKEUP Institute - 4961 NW Loop 410 San Antonio ...

Lucy

I'm young and have been struggling withacne for a few years now and I am very healthy for the most part and do everything I can to avoid breakouts ect. There has always been the decision of what skincare products, out of the very many out there, to use. Also, if you should use Omer and when to use moisturizer. What are the main things in keeping healthy acne free skin? And what is
more important, the excercising and diet, or what brands of skin care you use? Thanks I'm curious of peoples opinions.

Answer
The two really go hand in hand. Staying healthy and stress free will reduce breakouts from those causes. Making sure to drink enough water will keep the skin naturally hydrated. Getting enough rest will give the skin time to heal itself.

Products are a different story. There is a LOT out there and what works for you, might not work for anyone else. But the basics are these two products: Cleanser and Moisturizer with SPF.

The cleanser will keep your oil production down and take off the grime for the day. What cleanser you use is up to you. For sensitive skin, I normally recommend one of two face washes. Cetaphil is great for sensitive skin when you don't have much to spend. It'll do the basics of cleansing, which is really all you need. If you have more to spend, I'd suggest Somme Institute. It's an incredibly gentle. non-foaming cleanser that has vitamins in it. It smells great and it's the one I use.

For acne prone skin, I like Noxema. It gives a good tingly sensation and has a low amount of salcylic acid to clear up problem skin.

As for a moisturizer, it again depends on your skin type. Moisturizers will help keep the skin hydrated and will in turn help reduce the production of oil. I would go with Cetaphil or Boots if you have normal skin. If you're slightly dry, then you can do the moisturizer morning and night.

If you have very dry skin, I would get an additional hydration mask (I suggest any vitamin mask.. my favorite was just pulled off the market :( ) and up your daily water intake. Do know, that a lot of times if your skin seems like it's oily, it's actually dry and the skin is overcompensating by creating all the oil.

Other products you should think about are scrubs, toners, and sunblock. A scrub will help take off that extra build up on the skin which will help keep pores clean. Toners help minimize the size of the pores and tighten the skin. Sunblock is a must have, as it will keep the skin healthy and help prevent premature aging.

It's a lot of information, definitely, but it helps to know what you're buying and why you're buying it. If you've found a product that works for you, use it! As long as you're happy with the way your skin looks, then it's doing it's job. If you're not happy, it's time to make a switch.

How to come out w/ my own skin care line?

Guillermo

I'm about to go to an institute for aesthetics and I wanted to know of any ideas of any of you guys knowing how it would be possible to come out & develop my own private labeled anti-aging skin care line? I know what I would somewhat like to have in my own products & moisturizers, but how to go about doing so is the most difficult part of it of all. I would love to see my very own skin care products sold in stores.

Answer
Contact www.alternativebeauty.com - they are a private label skin care and hair care manufacturer. You can design your own labels or "screens", select the products you want to use. I believe they make 200+ products. You should be able to find something in the anti-aging area - for women or me.

Good Luck!

How can a moisturizer have Hazmat (Hazardous materials)?

melissaA

I was online shopping at Nordstrom and they informed me some items couldn't be sent to my country, Portugal, because they had Hazmat (Hazardous materials) in them. What does this mean?

First, how come it's ok for it to have hazmat there and not send it?

Second, how come a moisturizer and stuff has Hazardous materials?? Isn't that not ok?

I'm sorry, I searched on google and stuff but I just really know nothing of this matter, please help :)

Answer
Don't know about the first question seriously! It's stupid that they're selling these and then also 'warning' you not to buy those products - Not sending.huh? Poor Business!
Maybe something related to Government and high-taxes they pay....!

Secondly, Yes moisturizers do have hazardous materials, most common namely - Parabens (Dioxanes), alcohol and Ester(perfumes).

> Parabens can be found in shampoos, commercial moisturizers, shaving gels, cleansing gels, personal lubricants, topical pharmaceuticals and toothpaste, while they are also used as food additives. Acutally Parabens are chemicals used as preservatives, used mainly to keep their products up on the shelf for a long time.Parabens can mimic the hormone estrogen, which is known to play a role in the development of breast cancers.

> Alcohols (for eg. Ethanol) gives you very fresh, cool-cool effect if you've ever used it on ur skin and that's why it's used in cosmetics. But If you have any problems with acne, wrinkles, "dry skin, or oily skin"(what other skin type is left, duh!), itâs best to avoid skin care products that contain SD Alcohol, Alcohol, Ethanol, Ethyl Alcohol, Methanol, Isopropyl Alcohol, or Alcohol Denat as they cause very worse kind of inflammation. Cetyl Alcohol and Stearyl Alcohol are not of concern though. The bad types of alcohol dry out your skin, irritate it, and cause inflammation. Alcohol can also rob even oily skin of its natural oil, causing an increase of oil production.

> I hope you are aware with the effects of Perfume on skin :)

How to get gocery coupons? How to know which place accepts double or triple face value on coupons?

muffin

I heard they are only in sunday papers, but I don't use sunday papers. Is there a good online place where I can easily get the coupons, but does the stores accept print coupons? I heard that certain places will double the coupon face value, but how do I know which company do that? Which companies usually do that? I don't eat much processed food, so maybe coupon wouldn't help me much?

Answer
There are places where you can print out grocery coupons and more from your computer. A friend just recently told me about it...He has printed out over $600 in grocery coupons this last month (March 09).

You can save money with National and Local companies, too!

I live in Fresno, California. I just plugged in my zip code and got over 400+ products, services, and stores in a 25 mile radius from my home! Many are national companies and the rest are local. Plus, countless numbers of grocery coupons from Betty Crocker, Pillsbury, Lucky Charms, Frosted Flakes, Hamburger Helper, and many more, along with coupons for over the counter drugs, too.

Below are just a few examples of place you can save money in Fresno. You can put your zip code in too.

TAX PREPARATION at H&R Block ($20 off), Liberty Tax services ($25 off)
AUTOMOTIVE: Big O Trires, Discount Tires, Pep Boys Auto Centers, AAMCO Transmissions, Goodyear auto services- Hertz, Avis, and Budget Rental......
HEALTH AND BEAUTY: Jenny Craig, Gold's Gym, Sally Beauty Supply, Astrum Hearing Solutions-HEARING AIDS, Beltone hearing aids, Eye Exam of California, Lenscrafters, .....
DINING: Di Cicco's (local), Carl's Jr., Dominos Pizza, Tony Romas (local), Tastee Freeze, Arby's, Papa Johns, Pizza Hut, Johnny Rockets, Chevy's Fresh Mex, Subway, Burger King, Quizno's...
LODGING: Ramada Inn, Super 8, La Quinta Inn and suites, Days Inn, Comfort Suites, Knights Inn, Quality Inn and Suites, Country Inn and Suites, Red Roof Inn.....
SHOPPING: Ann Taylor Loft, New York and Co., Macy's, Target, J.C. Penny, Rent A Center, Office Depot, Costco, Sears, Michaels,

Plus Golf, Movies, Bowling and much, much more!

Here is a link that will tell you more:

http://formykids.myworldmovie.com/

P.S. I was also able to purchase gift certificates from local restruants for $25 and only paid $2-$5 for...it is cheaper to eat out then it at home.

I hope this helps.

What is the reason for white discrimination?

End racism

I went to a wedding of my friend's a couple of weeks ago. She and the groom are both black, and I am white. I was the only white person at the wedding (except for my two little girls in tow), and I have never felt so hated. She is a friend from work, so I had never met her family before. When we arrived at the ceremony, the ushers never greeted us or offered us a leaflet, nor did they show us where the guest book was. They were very friendly to everyone else. Also, before the service started my child had to use the restroom and get a drink and came back nearly in tears because she had been yelled at by a lady for 'spalshing her' when my little girl got a drink.
I grew up in Denver and had friends of all colors, and was one of the few white people living at my dorms in college. Prior to this wedding I have never been openly hated or discriminated against. It is just so upsetting, because I am trying to raise my children to be loving and accepting of everyone and even they noticed how uncomfortable it was at the wedding.
The thing that really gets me that no one in my or my children's family (on either side) was even white in America during slavery, so why hate us? My husband's family came from from Germany in the 50's and my family and my family is Apache and Irish .
Oh, and the reason I am thinking of this particular event today is because I was at the library with my kids and was reading books to them about MLK and explaining why they had the day off school today, so I was just sitting here thinking about things...
Lol! I do not have a political agenda! Ha ha ha! God forbid I actually try to expand my ability to be able to see from others' points of view. Thanks to you all with valid answers.

Answer
They hate you because they're racist. They don't care to know your history. They only care about your skin color, these particular people. @ Guy who says I have 2 accounts. No I don't. ~_~

@ Guy who says I do - Yes I changed it to something you can google, so you can see I DONT have 2 accounts. Thanks :)

has anyone tried the mittin hair remolval buffer product?

Lauren p

The product is like a sandpaper hand bufffer you rub on your legs and it is supposed to make them smooth. there is also a smooth away brand. If you have tried it does it work? and how long does the hair have to be?

Answer
Don't get me wrong...I'm definitely not suggesting people use this the way I've used it, but I do want to say that I have used it for more than just hair removal...

Which it does just great. I've used it on my arms and legs with success, but it could be because my hair is so babyfine that it's the reason it works well.

But I've also used it on my upper lip and chin hair - VERY gently!

AND...(drum roll please) I've used it to slowly sand down the layers of skin on top of those annoying "milia" I was getting on my face before finding out that salicylic acid will take care of them. And I've also used it to sand down a few very tiny skin tags that were just beginning in the area of my underarm.

The key to using it is not to be impatient. Gentle circular motions done for five minutes on any particular area are way better than frantic scrubbing for two minutes.

I've gotten a lot of use from mine!

Fine grade sandpaper!, April 10, 2006
By BookNerd "S." (Denver, CO USA) - See all my reviews

I bought these mitts for the usual reason-easy hair removal. When you open the box, the 'mitts' look and feel like fine grade sandpaper that you could find in a hardware store! I followed the directions by rubbing my leg gently with the mitt, and it didn't remove the hair. You can't rub too hard or too much, because it does start to burn. Plus, you end up with alot of white powder on your legs that prevents you from seeing what actually came off. I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone. It didn't do what it was supposed to do, and not worth the money. It would sand some wood nicely though...... Help other customers find the most helpful reviews

Hair Off Mittens are GREAT!!, January 18, 2007

I have been using Hair Off Mittens for several years now. I always purchased them at our local drug store or discount stores. For the past 6-12 months they are no longer available in stores so when I found them on Amazon I was so excited. These mittens are so easy to use - no cuts or knicks - just rub the hair away. I used to buy the Hair Off Mittens at Walmart and love them! My skin has never been so soft and smooth and hairless, and they have never hurt me, guess it just depends on the person like most everything else. I haven't shaved my legs in several years since discovering this product and won't. I just wish Walmart was still selling them, but thank goodness I can still find them online. Heck, I even use them on my elbows to remove the rough spots. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews

Its Better than anything else in this price range, August 15, 2006
By Jessie New "J-True" (Jacksonville) - See all my reviews

Ok, as far as price Amazon is pushing it a little here it should never cost more than $5. But the product is awesome. I used it years ago until it wasnt sold in stores any longer and I actually have some hair folicles that no longer grow back. And I am a hairy beast. It is alot faster than shaving or nair on extra hairy legs. Anyone complaining about pain was just startled by the looks of it. It seems like it would hurt because it looks like sand paper. But After Nair's chemical burns, riping the hair off with wax, and cuts from shaving I have never removed my hair in a more painless fashion. Its reusable for a couple of times and as long as you can take a little heat you will be ok. I have sensitive skin and it worked great for me. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews

Hair off Mitten pad is the worst product i have ever used.., March 25, 2006
By nesrin (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews

I bought it on line and I wish I had never bought it. Although it removes the hair, but it is extremely painful. it leaves red spots on the legs. (My skin is not sensitive). It burns the skin as if I am burning my legs with fire. Unfortunately I bought 5 and I thought it is as good as the Sally Hansen Pad removal (I don't know why they stopped selling the Sally Hansen ones). Now I can't return

What are the best affiliate sites related to health and beauty?

year of beauty and health image

John euliz

I'm an aspiring affiliate marketer and just want to ask what are the best affiliate sites to register to that concerns itself with health and beauty. Thanks.

Answer
Health and beauty has a lot of CPA offers, many are product trials, etc. that don't fit the conventional sales commission model. They usually want to hear about your marketing experience in telephone interviews. wolfstormmedia.com is one that I hear is newbie friendly with good training, it's about a year old. CBleads, cpajuice.com, Maxbounty have been known to approve applications with no interview, which may actually be a bad thing, less selective networks are likely to have lower payouts or more scrub problems.

What should I get my 13 year old niece for a present?

AnimalLove

She likes Health and Beauty aid products, because she has frizzy bushy curls but everyone else thinks they're beautiful. Also, she likes trying different facial cleansers because of the oily skin at her age. So, she likes me to get her that kind of stuff, so any suggestions on that? Or are there other things that I should get her? Nothing too expensive, that can be bought at target. She also likes to read. Any suggestions?

Answer
My hair is just like hers. get her a steam straightener. you use it on wet, damp, or dry hair. my sister got one for me for only 30 bucks. I love it.

Hello everyone i work at a world class five star four diamond resort in Santa Fe, NM. We have a variety of retail items, but very few items specificaly for men. What would be a good product that would target sales to men? We currently carry a shaving line and a facial skin care line just for men so we need something new...any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

What is the best skin care product that you have found?

Rachael Co

A friend and I are looking into a bunch of different products to review them on a website. It's got make up tips and skin care tips. The problem is we don't know many of today's products. We tried to Google them but that didn't really tell us what ones were used by the everyday person most.

So if you could let us know what you use, how long you've been using it, how you've liked it, and where we can find more information on the product that would be super helpful.

Thanks a ton!

Answer
As odd as this might sound coming from a man, I've learned to love Sculptisse.

What I use: Sculptisse by Leeds Scientific

How long I've been using it: I got it for my wife last year as more of a gag gift. She ended up swearing by it and told me I should try it. I was skeptical at first but after a couple months of her nagging I gave in. It's almost been a year for me and it's been nearly life changing.

How you've liked it: I guess I answered that in the last one. I love it. :)

Where you can find more information: You can visit their site or their company site (both of which I'll post in the sources section) and get all the information you need about Sculptisse.

What are the best cosmetics for oily skin?

skincare for oily skin on Skin Care for an Oily Skin: How to Care for Oily Skin | The Women ...
skincare for oily skin image

M85

I'm not sure what's prompted my skin to suddenly become oily and prone to breakouts after 21 years of clear skin. I would appreciate any tips on skincare and cosmetics, particularly in finding a foundation that works well with oily skin.

Answer
Firstly, if I were you I'd speak to a doctor/ dermatologist or at least a beauty therapist about what might be causing your breakouts. It could be as easy as changing your diet or addressing a hormonal imbalance.

In the meantime, maintain your 3 step cycle of cleansing, toning and moisturising morning and night, using a scrub at least once a week will remove dead skin debris which can clog your pores further, try a mask as well Payot makes an excellent drawing out mask.

When it comes to make up, use a foundation which is (obviously) oil free but also (very important) non-comodogenic and non-acnedogenic, this will prevent blackheads, whiteheads and pimples that can be caused by make-up.

The kind of foundation you buy will also depend on the finish you want. If you want to mattify your skin a powder-based/ pancake foundation with those qualities I mentioned above will work best because the powder particles absorb oil a lot better.
If you're after a more natural finish but still want coverage a liquid foundation (again, with those properties I mentioned before) will work well. The liquid foundations melt much more easily into the skin so they give a much more radiant, natural finish. Applying it with your *clean* fingers will give you an even better result.
If you're after top quality, Clinique is wonderful. They have over 36 different types of foundations at least 10 of which are for your skin type, in many forms, so you can see if you like solid make up or liquid more. If you want something that will still work but won't break the bank, Revlon Colorstay makeup for Oily/ Combination Skin (liquid) is what I use for everyday and it has fantastic coverage with a very natural finish. Their pancake is also very good.

When it comes to the zit end of the equation, foundation can't do it all. A concealer is your best weapon. You can use a green stick to neutralise the redness of your spots and then cover with some foundation and a little brush or another concealer that matches your skin tone.
Never bulk up your make up, that includes foundation *and* concealer. You won't hide the imperfections completely, what you need to do is minimise them and draw attention away from them. This is easily achieved with matt products and colours that *match* (a concealer that is too light/ dark will *draw* the eye to your flaws).

And remember, for any skin problem: "Chin up and a concealer in your pocket." The rest will take of itself.

:)

Can anyone recommend skincare products for very oily skin?

princess

I have extremely oily skin and am looking for a good cleanser, toner and moisturiser. Unfortunately I have to wear makeup for work, and sometimes work long hours. I use Mac Studio Fix foundation with Mac blotting powder, but need to prep my skin well first, as by the end of the day I end up looking like an oil slick!
I don't mind paying more for high end products, but want something tried and tested, not just to pay for the name.
Thanks ;)

Answer
I use Garnier Skin Naturals, which is quite good, but may still leave you abit shiny at the end of the day. Still, it doesnt look as though you are sweaty even if you have just had to run ect.

Modeling help?! greatly appreciated?

muffins!!!

hii, okay well ill start off by saying that i want to become a model.
yes its a big goal to reach, i know, but im willing to try. i want to know if there are any agencies in the newark nj, new york area that accept applications form people who are shorter than the average model height, because from what i know, you only have to be that certian height if you plan on doing runway, but please correct me if i am wrong, also any other information at all about modeling, and just starting out would be GREATLY appreciated, thank you sooo much in advance

much love
muffins! :* <3

Answer
i'm no model (i wish) but ive asked so many questions and researched so much on the internet, i think im an expert meself :D
well basically, I know for runway u have to at least 5'7, unless your kate moss and ur unbelievably gorgeous. if u go to sag.org, and scroll down to click on the largest city closest to you, the site will give u agencies that are legit and closest to you. SAG is the screen actors guild, and it's union, which means that these are not agencies out for scams and money, these are the real deal. so i would say get some headshots professionally. if u cant afford professional headshots or comp cards, than have someone take pictures of u against a white wall. build a resume of as much experience as u can think of with modeling and add why u want to model. send in the resume to as many agencies as SAG lists and maybe ull get a call back. if not do not get discouraged becuz thousands of hopefuls get rejected everyday, it's the showbiz. i would also suggest finding small jobs to model for, like maybe theirs a photography section in ur school, and a student photographer needs a model or something. or google "casting calls in ny/nj" and alot should pop up since ur near ny. good luck
also take care of ur skin dont eat too much mcdonalds and always smile

I want to become a nail technician?

HAN-uhhh

My hair stylist lady told me about a school that you go to when your a junior/senior in high school. You go to high school during the day, then go to this school during the evening and you graduate high school, your a licensed nail technician..
I wanted to look it up because i was thinking about doing that.
But i cant remember the name of the school..
its like vortex or vortec or something like that..

I really wanna eventually open my own like beauty parlor thing.
I've wanted to be a nail technician for a long time and I'm only 15 and have been offered a job somewhere.
but ive also been thinking about getting into massage therapy and makeup and hair.
So going to this school would let me get kinda a head start.
I'm also going to a school that lets me graduate high school with my AA degree.

So my question is:
Do you know what the name of that school is?
and do you think this is a good like career plan for me?

Answer
she may have said vo-tech which is just a term for any vocational school. you may want to do some research first. every state has their own laws governing the beauty industry but i'm pretty sure that each state requires a person to be a highschool graduate in order to even be allowed to enroll in any of the beauty fields (cosmetology, skin care, nail tech and massage therapy). so before you even look at the school, look up the state laws for your state.

if you want to eventually open a salon, you may want to consider cosmetology. that license will allow you to practice hair, skin and nails. massage would have to be separate. also certain state laws will also dictate who can manage a salon. for example, in NJ anyone can own a salon, but only a licensed cosmetologist with at least 5 years experience can manage a salon.

as for whether this is the right career plan, only you can answer that. I have an BS in Hospitality Manage, emt and business Administration, but after 10+ years in coorporate america, i switched gears and I am now a licensed esthetician, nail technician and massage therapist. i absolutely love it, but that's just me. next time you're out at a salon or spa, ask your technician what they love most about their job and what they like the least. this may help you make a decision.

On that note, here are mine: i love that everyday is a different day at work and working in an upscale spa has allowed me to give the legendary Aretha Franklin a mani and pedi!!! what i dislike about my job is when it's slow or I'm not getting paid (since I am a commission paid employee).

Hope this helps and good luck!!!

Lysine is said to help promote healthy skin, and Vitamin C helps support the immune system. Will taking these two supplements after a chemical peel help speed up the healing process? And if not, which vitamins would be best? And how much of it should I take? Also, are there any vitamins I should avoid during this healing process? Thank You!

Answer
Nature care has some helpful remedies to provide immediate relief and for continuous use to make the skin prevent disorders such as peeling skin.

Here is a compilation of some such known home remedies that one can use for curing peeling skin. It is important to note that if desirable results are not achieved it is wise to consult a physician.

-Grated cucumber applied over the affected areas for 15-20 minutes has been found to be effective especially for the skin on the face. Regular application prevents dryness of the skin.
-Applying the juice of fresh mint every night on affected areas of the skin can help prevent dryness. It is also a suggested remedy for eczema and dermatitis.
-Honey, olive oil and a mixture of turmeric and sandalwood paste are very effective in rejuvenating dry, parched skin
Diet for Peeling Skin
Peeling Skin : Home Remedies suggested by users
Replenish essential vitamins to deal with Peeling Skin
Diet plays a very important part in nurturing a healthy skin. Skin disorders usually surface due to diet inconsistencies. This can be avoided by having a healthy and nutritional diet that nourishes the skin and keeps disorders at bay.

A good diet must include important nutrients for the well-being of the body. It must include protein, carbohydrates, fats, essential fatty acids, and all essential vitamins and minerals.
Peeling of the skin is sometimes caused due to deficiency in Vitamin A, Iron, Iodine or Vitamin B. While proteins and Vitamin C, prevent infections and accelerate healing. Replenish the skin with these basic essentials by including them as part of the regular diet.

Here is a list of sources of these essentials vitamins:
Vitamin Sources
Vitamin A: Cream, butter, fish liver oils, eggs, carrots
Vitamin B: Meat, yeast, unpolished cereal grains, liver, eggs, cheese, milk.
Vitamin C: Citrus fruits, green peppers and tomatoes
Proteins: Meat, fish, cereals, dairy products, nuts, lentils, pulses and some vegetables.
Iron: Red meat, almonds, baked beans, broccoli, kidney beans, peas, raisins, rice etc

Other Suggestions for Peeling Skin
Dos and Donts of Peeling Skin
Some simple situations best avoided can accelerate healing.

Here is a compilation of the certain preferred and most avoidable situations one can note when faced with peeling skin:

Doâs
-One may snip loose ends of the peeling skin but avoid cutting skin bound to the skin.
-Moisturizing peeling skin may help. Soothe dry the peeling skin and moisturize it with any good moisturizing cream or lotion.
-For all-over peeling, a soak in an oatmeal bath is a helpful remedy.
-Drink plenty of water about 10-12 glasses a day.
-Use sunscreens when out in the sun.
-Use mild soaps instead of strong and harsh soaps

Donâts:
-Resist the temptation to pick or scratch the peeling skin .It may damage the skin further.
-Avoid taking a hot water bath as it drains the skin of its natural oils. Warms baths are milder and causes less damage to the skin.
-Stay out of the sun during Peek UV Radiation times such as: during mid day 11.00am-2.00pm.

What's a good skin care routine to achieve smooth, healthy, and flawless skin?

Labels:

skin care for teens on Skin Care For Teens - Indian Makeup, Beauty and Fashion Blog
skin care for teens image

g

I have couple blackheads here and there, along with some whiteheads. My skin type is a combination of dry, and oily. I'm tired of having acne, it's so frustrating to deal with. My confidence level has dropped down a lot. I need help. So, what's a good skin care routine to achieve smooth, healthy, and flawless skin?

Thanks for answering!
I'm 13 by the way.

Answer
**I had a hypersensitive, fair skin in my early teens. My skin was dry and severely flaking, had severe sun damage, discolorations, blotches, large pores, many blackheads and whiteheads, pimples and scars. I found cause was mainly harsh soaps and also shampoos that gave me severe flaking scalp and harmed facial skin. I switched to hair and face washing with a mild natural bar soap with no additives, no colorings, no fragrances and healing started. Healing was very much hastened by vigorous massaging with essential oils. To do vigorously first tighten face by opening mouth 3/4" and pulling lips firmly back against teeth. Do a forward and back massage with tips and front and sides of fingers and palms, depending where on face applying. Circular massage is not effective. Gradually build up to vigorous as skin has to adjust. Initially face and hands may ache but also quickly adjust. If do a daily 30 min massage(can be in two or more sessions) you will get dramatic results. In first few days blackheads, whiteheads and pores will vanish or greatly diminish. Skin will quickly become smoother, softer, tighter and look and feel revitalized and develop a healthy glow. Keep it up and It will become totally blemish free. Oils are perfect moisturizers so do not remove. Lightly wash off excess with water and dab dry with tissues.
Treatment also cured skin hyper sensitivity.
We are always being told that high spf sunscreens are bad for skin. After massaging with oil, apply sunscreen on top of oil. The oil acts as a barrier. Surprisingly it is equally if not more effective. I often spend many hours a day in blistering Mexican sun with just one application of spf 15 and never burn.
OILS: I had great results with olive. Best for some acne prone skins are lavender, rosewood, bergamot. They do not clog, cause breakouts and they lessen skin's production of oils. They are strong and need diluting 25/75 or 50/50 with grapeseed, almond or olive oil.
Many have benefited on Answers from treatment. Here is a report from one of them.

wannabeblue28: "Hi Mukunda M. I have just been rubbing my face and neck with the ridges of my fingers and hands. It has made a HUGE difference in my complexion after just one night. ...... my skin looks so much tighter and i no longer have bags under my eyes! Thank you so much for your post, I have been suffering with acne and under-eye circles since i was young."

For women: what do you think about youth and beauty being so important regarding women?

Labels:

beauty and health facts on HEALTH AND BEAUTY PRODUCTS | SKIN CARE COSMETICS SPAIN | UK Shopping ...
beauty and health facts image

Society tends to focus on youth and beauty regarding women. One is a temporary asset (everybody ages), and the other one of a superficual one (no one can choose their genes)

Meanwhile society doesnt put as much pressure on men to look young and beauty, in fact you can see many old fat ugly guys married to younger beautiful women.

So what do you think about it?

Answer
They are both fleeting. One of the good things about getting older is that you worry less about beauty. I still worry about age because we live in a society where there is prejudice against older people. Like people can help getting older - what else can they do - die? Health seems to be more important after your late 30s, and you quit worrying about things like always looking perfect. I used to starve myself in my 20s, and I think a lot of young women still would rather be thin than healthy. Every time I read questions on here about a woman only being of value till age 23 or 25 I'm a little annoyed. What do some of these men think - that women are disposable? Chuck her and find a new one when a female hits a certain age because her value has decreased? To only be valued for your youth and beauty is kind of a sad thing.

Society pressures men to be attractive too, and many men are age conscious. A lot of them not until their 40s and beyond though. Most of those fat old ugly guys with beautiful younger women have major $$$$$$$$$.

How come so many people put their faith in science?

Hollywood

1. Science doesnât know everything there are many things that even after all of these years science cannot explain.

2. Science often contradicts itself. Some studies have found that certain things are beneficial to your health where as other studies have found that the same things can be detrimental to your health.

But yet, certain people still put their faith or whatever they call it in science and scientists hoping that they are right. It really seems like a lot of wishful thinking.

Answer
Oh, I don't know. Maybe because science is based on evidence and self-correcting.

In any case:
1) Science doesn't ask for your faith, nor do you need any faith in it. Everything in science is independently verifiable which is the whole beauty of it. That's the opposite of faith.
2) Nobody has ever claimed science knows everything. Indeed science is a methodology, not an entity capable of knowing or not knowing things. Science is a way of getting at what is true, a demonstrably effective way at that.
3) If you think science contradicts itself, you don't understand science. In the specific example of whether something is healthy or not, there's a lot of error and jumble in the data because the relationship between what you eat and your health is complicated and it's difficult if not impossible to hold all other variables constant. That's why looking at individual studies in those areas don't show anything. Instead, scientists look at a large number of studies and do meta-analyses on them to eliminate these errors, randomness, and other factors affecting the results. The kind of journalism "New study finds X is healthy/unhealthy" is based on a misunderstanding of science and results partly from the fact that journalists don't know enough science but also partly from the fact that journalists often just want quick stories.
