Cool beauty products?

Labels:

Chell

If you've seen any cool beauty products of any kind, I'd love to know about them. Thanks.

Answer
Many beauty & hair products now have LABEL INGREDIENTS and DISCLAIMERS, specially makeup, they are required to put labels so consumers are aware to watch for chemicals: DBP, TITANIUM, MERCURY, HYDROQUINONE, formaldehyde or Toluene solvent, that causes cancer or harm us. In other words, less is MORE.
Women in the study with highest concentrations of these chemicals, called phthalates, in their bodies were more likely to have diabetes than women with lowest concentrations, the researchers said.
Phthalates are found in a variety of products, including nail polish, hair sprays, soaps and shampoos. The findings suggest that phthalates could disrupt blood sugar metabolism, said study researcher Tamarra James-Todd, of Brigham and Women's Hospital's Division of Women's Health.

Phthalates are present in certain medications and medical devices, and its possible women with diabetes have higher phthalate concentrations in their bodies due to the use of these medications or devices, James-Todd said.
James-Todd and colleagues analyzed information from 2,350 women ages 20 to 80 who took part in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, between 2001 and 2008. As part of the survey, participants underwent physical exams and provided urine samples.

Reporting Bad Reactions From Cosmetics
COSMETICS - UNAPPROVED no ingredient labels:
One color additive of particular concern is kohl. Also known as al-kahl, kajal, or surma, kohl is used in some parts of the world to enhance the appearance of the eyes, but is unapproved for cosmetic use in the United States. Kohl consists of salts of heavy metals, such as antimony and lead. It may be tempting to think that because kohl has been used traditionally as an eye cosmetic in some parts of the world, it must be safe. However, there have been reports linking the use of kohl to lead poisoning in children.*
Lead on Lipstick: According to a 2009 study conducted by the FDA, every one of 22 lipstick samples tested contained lead, ranging from 0.9 ppm to 3.06 ppm. Though the amounts are small, they can have a big impact on the long-term health of women who apply lipstick every day (and sometimes multiple times per day). The agency's weak regulations for cosmetics allow up to 20 ppm lead in cosmetic colorants, but that doesn't account for other potential sources. The Campaign for Safe Cosmetic has found that lead can be a contaminant of petroleum-based ingredients or of minerals, such as zinc oxide or titanium dioxide.

Lead and eight other metals are found in lipsticks and lip glosses commonly sold in the United States, some at levels that could raise potential health concerns, according to a new report.
Researchers measured levels of cadmium, chromium, titanium and other metals in 32 lip products purchased from drugstores and department stores in California.
They detected lead in 75 percent of the products, according to the report. Half of the samples contained lead at concentrations higher than the maximum allowed by the Food and Drug Administration in candy likely to be consumed by small children, the researchers said. 5-2-13

Beauty blog! Ideas please?

Labels:

courti

I've just decided it would be so much fun for me to create a blog for like..teen girls.
What are some things that would be interesting to put in there?
I was thinking beauty and health tips, DIY beauty projects, etc.

Answer
How to dress like certain stars, I know everyone loves Blake lively from gossip girl, Selena Gomez, Taylor swift. Try some DIYs too, like how to make a t shirt dress or a crop top. Do fall trends, how to go back to school in style (dont forget girls with uniforms!) or even like how to dress up a uniform. Hope this helps!!

What would you say beauty is?

...

Answer
Ah beauty, you please whomever gazes upon you. You soften hearts & calm mens restless souls. Without your presence here in life, things just wouldn't be the same.

Beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder which means that it is a subjective experience. However, amongst us subjective individuals there lies some consistencies apart from personal preference.

Beauty is symmetry (if split down the middle each side mirroring the other)
Beauty is health
Beauty is fertility or should I say youthfulness
Beauty is found in all that which attracts

My personal literal definition of what true beauty is, is this:
Beauty is a uniform harmonious construct.

Beauty is a blossoming open heart. Beauty is the uninhibited flow of emotion through the facial features. Beauty is the radiance of a woman when she is in love.

Help me (: Skin Care?

Labels:

Alright, so i'm going to Walmart today and I want to buy some new products for my skin. I know about the whole "everyones skin is different" thing, but that's what trial and error is for, right? So, my question is what products do you use that gives you pretty good results? I have oily skin and some break outs here and there.

Answer
Hey there... yeah everyones skin is different. Over the counter products are geared toward having the same effect on everyone. If you are looking for a cleanser for oily skin you will be prone to the acne products out there, most have alcohol in them and loads of fragrance and sudsy nice foaming feelings cleansers. Those agents are bad for your skin! Getting on a detergant free, preservative free cleanser is the best. If you MUST buy something at walmart.. one of the best is cetaphyl. It won't be too drying. Oil is good for your skin! You just want to prevent an over production, which strong products will irritate and produce MORE oil.

I'm a clinical Aesthetican in a plastic surgions office, we cary medical skin care lines such as Environ, Obagi, and NIA24. Feel free to google them or give us a call! We do phone orders and I can help you out with your skin..
727-789-5711 , ask for Ashley.

For those that know skin care: would Obagi or NIA 24 be better choice for me right now?

Catra

I'm 25, very minimal wrinkles, occasional pimples. I want to MAINTAIN healthy skin, so isn't Obagi's 6 step system a bit excessive? I'm currently working for a plastic surgeon & we sell both lines with some pretty amazing results. Thanks, 10 pts to those with personal experience with either of the lines.

Answer
I don't personally use Obagi, but my mom does, so I do have some experience. My mom had tons of freckles, and some wrinkles (probably more than you) and the occasional pimple. Obagi worked well for her, but it was a long process. ( About 2 years to reach the "Healthy Maintained Glow" that the label says.) During that process one of the things she used was an exfoliator that took off all the dead skin. Since you are only 25, your skin will still be doing this naturally so their is no need to put on stuff that you don't need. Also, during the middle part of the treatment, your face gets extremely red, like you have a killer sunburn. I have never used NIA 24, so I don't know if that would be the right choice for you, but Obagi does sound a bit much. (There is also tons you have to do for it. Like 5 bottles of cream and 2 droppers in the morning and all that plus more in the night!) Hope I helped, and good luck!

Is this a Good Skin Care Routine for the Early 20s?

Labels:

Treat

Morning; cleanse with Olay Sensitive skin w/aloe
Burt's Bees Radiance Moisturizer with SPF

Night: Cleanse with Noxzema
Burt's Bees Repair Serum under eyes
Burt's Bees Naturally Ageless Night Cream alternating nightly with Prescription Retin-A gel

Once a week, I do a mask of mashed avacado with vitamin E oil, raw honey, and egg white

Answer
sounds like wayy too much to me.
i'm 21 and all i do is wash my face once in the morning with a daily exfoliator (right now it's st. ives green tea light exfoliator) and i moisturize after i wash in the morning and before i go to bed with aveeno with spf.
all the things you're using is just trapping your skin from breathing.
if you are trying to prevent your face from aging, all you need to do is drink a lot of water, stay out of pollution, and stay out of the sun.
it's simple, really. :)

What's your skin care routine?

Live for

Please be detailed and state your age! I'm 13 and mine is:
Step one: splash face with warm water and scrub face with Willa face wash
Step two: rinse face with cold water
Step three- moisturize face Burt's bees cream
Step four- put sunscreen on
That's it! Also say if you wear makeup and what kind! I just wear mascara! I'm big on washing my face and taking care if my skin!

Answer
I think it's good to start taking care of your skin young, & that you wear sunscreen. I've always worn SPF, & stay out of the sun, & at 31, people always assume I'm in my 20s. I attribute some of that to the retinol cream I use, but I think protecting myself from the sun is a bigger part. But what I do is :
-In the morning, I just splash my face w/water. I have dry skin, & for me it's just not necessary to use cleanser more than once a day. So then after that I apply Olay Regenerist Serum and Neutrogena Spectrum Plus Face SPF 100 sunscreen
-Then I do my makeup: L'oreal primer, Revlon Beyond Natural Skin Matching Makeup OR Sonya Kashuk tinted moisturizer, translucent powder, Maybelline Dream Mousse blush in Peach Satin, Maybelline Color Explosion eyeshadow in Caffiene Rush, L'oreal eyeshadow in Lush Raven (I use it as eyeliner w/a damp eyeliner brush),Maybelline Lash Stilletto mascara
-At night, I use Olay Foaming Face wash, which also takes off all my makeup. Or, if it's that time of the month, I use L'oreal Go Clean 360 Anti-Acne wash (I always get a few pimples around that time). Then I use Roc Retinol Correction Night Cream on my forehead, around my eyes, & mouth,& then put Olay Regenerist Serum over it.

could men use mary kays skin care products?

Mike

i mean like is it only for women , cause i went to the website and its all pink and stuff and it says "enriching womens ives" so my question is could i use their products(facial products) cause i hear they have great skin care products for acne

Answer
My husband uses the MK. On the moisturizer I popped a pump on there ($1 extra) so its silver and white instead of pink. The cleanser he keeps in the shower...and anyone looking would think it was mine. But...nobody goes in our master bath anyway. Recently they had a men's gift set that had the packaging done in platinum. If you contact your consultant she/he can get it for you. However if you use the basic line (which is probably what you heard about) you probably need that moisturizer not the fancy packaged one. I know all of this was probably confusing but you can go to www.MaryKay.com and type in your zip code on the consultant locater if you don't already have one and they can explain all the details for you. ;) Good Luck!

Catchy name+tips?? Youtube beauty guru?

HI! So I have a youtube beauty channel and I want to start making a certain type of video every sunday, like a sunday spa day or tip day or something, and I want to know if you would have any ideas on what kind of day it should be and what I should call it! Also, do you have any cool unique beauty related tips I could include in my video? I will definitely include it!! Here is a link to my channel if you love to watch beauty guru's like I do :) http://www.youtube.com/user/gonewiththeglitterxo?feature=guide

Answer
it depends on the kind of stuff you're explaining. if you're talking about skin care, it could be skin care sunday, if it's eye makeup eye, makeup day. but if it's all general you can call it something like beauty day or as you said tip day. i would try to include some facial masks you can make yourself at home, also some tips that make your skin really soft and get rid of white/blackheads. that's really useful stuff to know. hope i helped! :)

Setting up my own Skin Care line/beauty range?

Q. So I am 16, and it's my dream to have my own skin care like and makeup range. What would I have to do, in order of studying, university etc? It's my passion, and ambition.

I speak French also, and would love to base my line in Paris, and make it big. I am prepared to put every single living second into this business. I want it to be big. I don't want any sarcastic answers either.

Thank you in advance.

Answer
have you ever heard of michelle phan?
shes a famous beauty guru on youtube and recently she set up her own cosmetics/skincare line (its called IQQU). its doing really well. and shes only like 19! (i think) it must be possible to do cos shes a full time art student too without any sort of beauty training.

beauty school would mean you have all the background knowledge about what needs to go in your products, ingredients etc...however a degree in something like business management would help you in organizing profit etc and marketing your line. its up to you!

911 doesn't affect me?

Labels:

Q. I couldn't really care less about it.
I'm not affected by it, no close family members of mine were even near there.

Maybe it's my optimism, or my lack of emotion toward some things..

Does that make me a meanie?
I live in New York City...
I remember it. I still don't really care.

Answer
I should feel guilty because i feel the same way as you, but i don't. Honestly I think people make way too big of a deal out of it now that it was so many years ago. Yes, it was part of history, but we don't mourn over wars from 20 years ago, do we? Do we bring up the anniversaries of all the wars, and what about the one going on right now and how bad it was just a couple of short years ago? No one remembers the anniversary of that, so why is this any different? Just move on, ya know. I feel the same as you, and I honestly believe a lot more people out there feel the same way and just aren't as willing to admit it openly because of the ridicule and social stigma they will face..but i have thick skin, i can handle it.

Can please help me with my hair 911?

What to do with my skin?

Labels:

Q. So I've left the skin on my face alone (didn't pick on the pimples) kept with my skin care regimen etc... and I've noticed a few blackheads and several (if not plenty) of bumps on my skin. Basically pimples without a head. I'm sooooo tempted to pop all of these and just clear out the gunk but I don't think I should?

Help? How can I clean it out without popping them & scarring myself. I've tried opening the pores with warm water/steam and exfoliating, but it doesn't do anything...?

Answer
A combination approach to skin care thatâs tailored to your specific skin type is the most effective method against acne. If youâre unsure of your complete skin type, then take the questionnaire created by world-renowned cosmetic dermatologist and clinical researcher, Dr. Leslie Baumann. Register first then take the quiz to determine your Baumann Skin Type.

Minimally, four products are required:

1) Cleanser: Any water-soluble cleanser with mild detergents should gently remove cellular debris, sebum, and/or makeup, which preps the skin for topical products.

2) Exfoliant: - β-hydroxy acid (salicylic acid) exfoliant at 1-2% concentration is the gold-standard because

A) it exfoliates both on the surface of the epidermis and within the pore lining to dislodge dead skin cells.
B) its anti-inflammatory property soothes redness.
C) Its antibacterial property kills acne bacteria.
D) it enhances penetration of therapeutic products.

If β-hydroxy causes skin sensitivity, then the alternative is an α-hydroxy acid exfoliant such mandelic acid, malic acid, glycolic acid, or lactic acid.

3) Acne Medication: The gold-standard is benzoyl peroxide at 2.5-10% concentration, which seeps into the pore and releases oxygen to destroy the bacteria.

If benzoyl peroxide causes skin sensitivity, then the alternative is sulfur, niacinamide, and

4) Sunscreen/Sunblock: UV-rays can trigger the sebaceous glands to produce more sebum and exacerbates acne. Proper sun protection eliminate this risk.

Itâs imperative to liberally apply and reapply sunscreen daily, especially after every 2 hours of direct sun exposure, excessive perspiration, and/or swimming. Make sure the sunscreen is broad-spectrum, which shields against UVA and UVB rays.

----- ----- -----

Improvements may take up to 1-2 months depending on the severity of the condition. Patience, diligence, and compliance to the regimen are imperative.

If OTC products are ineffective, then a board-certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon can offer more aggressive and effective treatments such as Rx-strength topical Vitamin A or benzoyl peroxide with antibiotic, chemical peels, light therapies, or a combination of them. The ONLY oral drug that is considered a âcureâ is isotretinoin, which shrinks the sebaceous glands and significantly reduces the bacteria population.

Skin cleaner?

raater_pot

I feel like i have dirt on my skins...any product you can suggest to help by deep moisturinging or cleansing......i tried with dove, and other body wash.....Please help

Answer
I used to work in a skin care clinic. The best things you can do are: clean (dove soap is wonderful) exfoliate (use baking soda) protect(use a sunscreen every single day and be sure it has zinc oxide in it. I use vanicream that I get at www.coolibar.com) use a chemical exfoliator such as glytone. Those 4 steps are the basic care that all beautiful skin needs. I don't even use foundation anymore.

We work with retailers and luxury/prestige clients in beauty/spa, fashion/accessories, home/interiors, travel and hospitality, and real estate.

Answer
As always, the answer to a question like this depends on what you want to accomplish. Generally, the purpose of networking is to get prospects.

If that's what you're hoping to do, go to events/places that either have prospects or else have centers of influence on your prospects. For example, you may wish to consider travel associations, health & beauty associations, etc.

For programming built around big brands, check out the American Marketing Association. If you're targeting smaller businesses, you'll still get good info from AMA, but you may not find the relationships you're seeking to move your company forward.

The AIGA (American Institute for Graphic Arts) at the national level also targets large agencies and big brands, but the local chapters have terrific activities where you can meet good people you can work with on smaller projects.

Don't forget to have your own value proposition and 30 second elevator speech figured out before you venture into the networking world!

What skin care product/routine do you recommend?

Labels:

Kc

I am 14 and my skin is fair, not white, but pretty darn close. I have white/blackheads all over my forehead and near my eyebrows, and I occasionally get a pimple, but not very often. I do wear makeup, but it's very basic. Neutrogena Skin Clearing Foundation and Physicians Formula Blush. I don't wear concealer because, like I said, I don't usually get giant read pimples.
I'm looking for something that can preferably get rid of the things on my forehead, and I'm trying to do this without completely wiping out my wallet. If I wanted to do that, I'd just go to the dermatologist.
But anyways, I do try and stick to whatever routine I have, but I need something where I can slip up for a day and not pay for it the next day.

Thank you to anyone who tries to help
Except the people who leave stupid answers
...you know who you are
Thank you again!

Answer
I've had the same skin care routine since I was 9 years old. I'm almost 60 now, and I think I'm doing so good so far. Look @ me now!

Good skin care comes from your good genes, good skin care (see below) and all the healthy foods from Mother Nature, not made by man, not beauty products, because they are a billion dollar business, until you wash them again.

Proactive is the most advertised acne products out there. They're even getting paid celebrities to do an informercial. On the radio, they're giving them away with FREE SHIPPING and a month's supply if you call NOW.

Any kind of facial wash, you're leaving something toxic behind, it's not a matter of convenience, it's a billion dollar business that can do more harm than good to your acne.

Take a shower everyday, use washcloth to exfoliate and bath & body wash. Hydrogen peroxide does wonders for acne. Visit their website for more tips & other uses. ONLY $1.

Acne medication could worsen what ever allergies you have, so instead of trying out one product after another, you're actually spreading it around.
The less products you use, the better for your skin. Use a bath & body wash like Suave, Irish Spring, Dove Body & Face wash in the shower, use a washcloth. Treat your face like the rest of your body, take a shower everyday or wash your face everyday.

The secret is keeping your face clean and oil-free. I also don't use liquid on my face for anything, and very little moisturizer, not even a dime size. Since my face is not dry. Good skin also comes from your good genes. Increase your fresh fruits & vegetables 3-5 servings per day. And programmed your mind to do this day after day, for the rest of your life.

The beauty industry is a billion dollar business, they know acne is everyone's problem, but instead of saying soap is drying for you, they have to invent an acne product that can worsen the skin as MANY TEENAGERS have experienced during hormonal change, but as you get older those are completely a waste of time & money!

Sometimes just the oil on your face from make up and lotions, even from your hair can travel to your face causing acne to come out. Others, from stress, hormones & diet or foods.

Other skin care:

1. Staying out of the sun. If you have gotten sunburned before you're 18, you'll have dark spots or brown spots, some get freckles and those will get darker and bumpier as you get older. It's best not to make them darker or bumpy, and staying out of the sun will prevent that. Just from the heat, can make anyone flaky. I use my wide brim hat everywhere I go, and while I'm inside a car as a rider, I use blanket over the window or sit where it's shady. Lotions does not protect you from sunburn, same with cancer and could permanently discolor your skin. Lotions does not protect you from skin disease.

2. Don't go in a tanning bed. You'll aged 10-15 years faster.

3. Bathing or showering in hot water and too much chlorine can make you looking like 'dishpan hands'. Use warm water.

4. Use a washcloth when taking a shower. I use Bath & Body (Suave, Dove, Irish Spring, etc.) wash for body & face. No baths! The less you're in the water, the less you'll get wrinkles.

5. For oily skin, the less you fuss with your skin, the better. Keep your face oil-free & dry from dirt & perspiration. Blot it with a tissue or blotter, and keep them dry. Using powder foundation, blush & eyeshadow is best. Less is best, less product poisoning. Google Elizabeth Taylor when she's 16, then Google her when she's 79.

6. For your hands, wear gloves winter, spring, fall, and wear gloves for every chores you do, so you don't have to wash them often. In the garden, office, kitchen. Thank God for those! Too bad they don't have ones for feet.

7. Google: FIVE FOODS TO EAT FOR BEAUTIFUL SKIN
All the vitamins & minerals you need for good skin care comes from all the healthy foods you eat from Mother Nature.

Answer
If your skin is dry, try using a salt and water mix for peeling the skin, and... this might sound strange.
But common lubricant (yes, lubricant!) may do WONDERS for your skin, shaving mousse also makes your skin soft and nice, any mousse created for men should do, since they are made to be used in the face, to cover up the smell, just was with regular soap.

Q. whats a really good skin care cleanser for white heads and blackheads found at a drugstore or walmart

Answer
The best things I can advise you is to use natural remedies. I found they work much better, but you can try it out for yourself if you like (they`re also just as cheap, if not more).
First, use avocado oil (virgin, cold pressed) as your moisturizer. It actually absorbs really fast, to the point that in 2 minutes it doesn't show and you can go out with it. It gives you a nice glow as is super good for your skin....known to heal sun damage, moisturize intensely, prevent sun spots, wrinkles, regenerate cells and help with large pores and acne. Apart from this, I never need anything else in my skincare routine because it also prevents my skin from becoming too oily during the day (I guess my skin feels it has enough moisture that it doesn't have to produce too much of it's own).
In case you ever get problems with acne, mangoes work really well at managing it (either eating them or making a face mask out of the pulp, and leaving it on your skin for 10 minutes).

As for blackheads, I've never tried anything, but I found a remedy that people seem to say works:
Wash your face with a paste of baking soda and water, and leave on for 2-3 minutes. Then, massage a thin layer of honey on your face, leave for 10 minutes, then rinse off with warm water.

So, that's pretty much it....if you're really devoted to long term skin care, I would suggest using natural products on your skin (like the avocado oil, and natural soaps), because most stuff on the market contains harmful chemicals and alcohol that dries skin out. From my experience, natural stuff usually works better and has more long term results.
Well, whatever you choose, good luck!

How do I get good Skin Care And Acne blogs or sites?

melissa ba

Answer
Skin Care And Acne
Although good skin care plays only a very minor role in whether or not you get acne in the first place, it does play an extremely important role in treating acne.

Some people believe that vigorous washing can help prevent acne and that, if acne does occur, it can help to clear it up quickly. The truth is that washing has little if any effect on whether or not you develop acne in the first place but vigorous washing once it has arrived can actually help to spread, and thus worsen, the condition.

Over washing can dry out the skin, roughening it and removing the outer protective layers of the skin so that the skin has to release its natural oils to provide a protective coating while the outer layers of skin re-grow. This release of oil when the acne bacteria are present simply helps to spread the problem over a wider area.

The best policy in general, and certainly if you are suffering from acne, is to wash gently every morning and last thing at night with a mild cleanser and, this should not simply be confined to the face, but should also include the neck, shoulders, back and chest. It can also be helpful to apply a mild cleanser to the area along the hairline and under the jaw in the middle of the day and again during the evening.

Natural skin oil plays an important part in the development and spread of acne and so removing excess oil is important. However, it also plays an important role in maintaining a healthy and elastic skin and so removing every trace of it is not a good idea. For this reason you should use astringents which are designed to remove oil sparingly and with care.

Over-the-counter and prescription acne preparations have been designed specifically to get the balance right and to both treat your acne and also to protect your skin. However, they will only do this if they are used according to the manufacturer's instructions and using medication which is of too high a strength for your particular acne or using it too often can, like vigorous washing, make the problem worse rather than better.

Makeup can often present women with a problem too when it comes to acne as, while it can help to conceal the problem, it can also add to it. Fortunately, there are many forms of makeup marketed today which again have been specially formulated for women (and indeed men) with acne and, while these are often a bit more expensive than regular makeup, the cost is well worth it and will be more than made up for by the lower cost of treating your acne if you try to use regular makeup.

Choosing the right acne medication for your particular form of acne and skin type is not always easy and often it is a case of having to try two or three different treatments before you find the one which works best for you. This can also be an expensive operation so don't be afraid to talk to the druggist who will often be prepared to let you have free samples of acne medicine to try.

how can i avoid razor burn?

how can i avoid razor burn?it really sucks and sometimes i get it pretty bad. i shave with the grain of the hair and i still get it.any suggestions?

Answer
I get razor burn all the time, I always have. I bought TEND SKIN a week ago and I am very happy with the results. I noticed improvement within 24 hours of using it. You cannot use it if you are allergic to aspirin. It somehow works to eliminate razor burn and ingrown hairs. I love it. It is rather expensive but you can make your own with a few simple ingredients

solution 1:
18 tablets uncoated aspirin, crushed
5 oz. rubbing alcohol
combine.

solution 2:
8 tablets uncoated aspirin, crushed
2.5 oz. witch hazel
combine.

combine the two solutions. the aspirin will settle a bit, so shake it before use. apply to the bikini area to prevent ingrowns. it can also be used to spot treat blemishes. (aspirin is acetic and salicylic acids.)

I just mixed it up today, and i am going to start using it tomorrow. I still have tend skin left and it works miracles, but I am going to try this much cheaper version and hope for the same results.

As far as razors, I use the Fusion razor by Schick i think. It is a men's razor but who cares! It has 5 blades so you hardly ever have to go over the same spot twice (which is what causes razor burn to be worse). I also use a sensitive skin shave gel, skintimate or anything really as long as it is for sensitive skin. Cleaning the skin before shaving to remove any dirt that may be on the skin also helps.

Good luck in being bump free!

Should I take my nose ring out?

Q. I got my nose pierced about a month ago. And, within days my piercing started acting up. I ignored it, but it has progressively gotten worse. The skin inside my nose is swolen and I can no longer feel the end of my nose ring on the inside. On the outside, there is a bump. It's surrounding the whole piercing and it's kind of a purple color. You can't see it if I keep the nose ring in, but once I take it out it looks almost like a pimple. It's impossible to cover with makeup...I tried.
I don't know if I should take my nose ring out, because if I do, it's so ugly and I can't cover it! But I'm afraid if I keep it in, it's going to scar.
What should I do?! Someone help me please!

Answer
1. You should not be touching it or putting anything on it besides what you use to clean it with.
2. Don't take it out as the infection can get trapped in there when it is healed.
------------------
Aftercare Guidelines for Body Piercings
Cleaning Solutions

Use one or both of the following solutions for healing piercings:
⢠Packaged sterile saline solution with no additives (read the label), or a non-iodized sea salt mixture: Dissolve 1/4 teaspoon of non-iodized (iodine-free) sea salt into one cup (8 oz.) of warm distilled or bottled water. A stronger mixture is not better; a saline solution that is too strong can irritate the piercing.
⢠A mild, fragrance-free liquid soapâpreferably anti-microbial or germicidal.
CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS FOR BODY PIERCINGS
⢠WASH your hands thoroughly prior to cleaning or touching your piercing for any reason.
⢠SALINE soak for five to ten minutes once or more per day. Invert a cup of warm saline solution over the area to form a vacuum. For certain piercings it may be easier to apply using clean gauze or paper towels saturated with saline solution. A brief rinse afterward will remove any residue.
⢠SOAP no more than once or twice a day. While showering, lather up a pearl size drop of the soap to clean the jewelry and the piercing. Leave the cleanser on the piercing no more than thirty seconds.
⢠RINSE thoroughly to remove all traces of the soap from the piercing. It is not necessary to rotate the jewelry through the piercing.
⢠DRY by gently patting with clean, disposable paper products. Cloth towels can harbor bacteria and snag on jewelry, causing injury.
WHAT IS NORMAL?
⢠Initially: some bleeding, localized swelling, tenderness, or bruising.
⢠During healing: some discoloration, itching, secretion of a whitish-yellow fluid (not pus) that will form some crust on the jewelry. The tissue may tighten around the jewelry as it heals.
⢠Once healed: the jewelry may not move freely in the piercing; do not force it. If you fail to include cleaning your piercing as part of your daily hygiene routine, normal but smelly bodily secretions may accumulate.
⢠A piercing may seem healed before the healing process is complete. This is because tissue heals from the outside in, and although it feels fine, the interior remains fragile. Be patient, and keep cleaning throughout the entire healing period.
⢠Even healed piercings can shrink or close in minutes after having been there for years! This varies from person to person; if you like your piercing, keep jewelry inâdo not leave it empty.
WHAT TO DO

⢠Wash your hands prior to touching the piercing; leave it alone except when cleaning. During healing, it is not necessary to rotate your jewelry.
⢠Stay healthy; the healthier your lifestyle, the easier it will be for your piercing to heal. Get enough sleep and eat a nutritious diet. Exercise during healing is fine; listen to your body.
⢠Make sure your bedding is washed and changed regularly. Wear clean, comfortable, breathable clothing that protects your piercing while you are sleeping.
⢠Showers tend to be safer than taking baths, as bathtubs can harbor bacteria. If you bathe in a tub, clean it well before each use and rinse off your piercing when you get out.
WHAT TO AVOID

⢠Avoid cleaning with Betadine®, Hibiciens®, alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, Dial® or other harsh soaps, as these can damage cells. Also avoid ointments as they prevent necessary air circulation. Click here to download information on triclosan dangers
⢠Avoid Bactine®, pierced ear care solutions and other products containing Benzalkonium Chloride (BZK). These can be irritating and are not intended for long term wound care.
⢠Avoid over-cleaning. This can delay your healing and irritate your piercing.
⢠Avoid undue trauma such as friction from clothing, excessive motion of the area, playing with the jewelry, and vigorous cleaning. These activities can cause the formation of unsightly and uncomfortable scar tissue, migration, prolonged healing, and other complications.
⢠Avoid all oral contact, rough play, and contact with othersâ bodily fluids on or near your piercing during healing.
⢠Avoid stress and recreational drug use, including excessive caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol.
⢠Avoid submerging the piercing in unhygenic bodies of water such as lakes, pools, hot tubs, etc. Or, protect your piercing using a waterproof wound-sealant bandage (such as 3M⢠Nexcare⢠Clean Seals). These are available at most drugstores.
⢠Avoid all beauty and personal care products on or around the piercing including cosmetics, lotions, and sprays, etc.
⢠Donât hang charms or any object from your jewelry until the piercing is fully healed.

Good skin care routine for a 14 year old?

Labels:

Q. Im looking for a good skin care routine for a 14 year old that helps clear and keep acne away and helps my overall appearance of my skin. Please include good brands

I have a few pimples, redish cheeks and nose (not roscea (sp??) and light freckles on my cheeks and nose. I have fair/pale skin.

also: Im looking for a light foundation to cover up some of my redness

thanks

Answer
Suggestions:

Three Step Skin Care:
1. Cleanse (I alternate between "Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash "and "Aveeno Positively Radiant Facial Cleanser")
2. Exfoliate (Depending on your choice and the exfoliator, exfoliate once or twice a week. I use the "Yes To Carrots Gentle Exfoliator" and it's gentle enough for me to use everyday.)
3. Moisturize (I usually use "Clinique's Dramatically Different Lotion" but I also use "Aveeno Positively Radiant Moisturizer with SPF 30".)
(4. SPF! I use Aveeno)

As for acne, since you said that you don't have a lot, keep some spot treatment gel on you when you do break out. Also, every once every few weeks, take out your pillow cases and throw them in the washing machine with your clothes. You'll be surprised at how much dirt and oil is on there.

I'm a teen too, but I don't really use foundation, but since you're looking for something light, go for a (moisturizing) face tint instead of foundation. SHEER foundation might be alright too.

Other tips:
- Avoid eating excessive sugary foods
- Avoid excessive junk foods
- Drink lots of water
- If your hair is oily, then wash it more often to keep the oils from getting on your face

what would you suggest for a healthy skin makeup and for my skin to be fresh healthy, smooth, lotions? sunscreen?

Answer
There's tried-and-true ways to properly care for your skin, from the right way to cleanse your face, to the best moisturizers and sunscreens.

Before we start with the proper daily 4-step skincare routine, you'll need to know your skin type. How you care for your skin is utterly dependent on the type of skin you have: oily, normal/combination, dry, sensitive or sun- damaged. Find out what skin type you have.

The Basic 4-Step Skincare Regimen Step 1: Cleansing
Simple is key here. You need to find a good cleanser that your skin responds well to, and stick with it. See the best cleansers for your skin type.

You can find a good cleanser at the drugstore. There's no need to spend $40 on a fancy wash. Avoid bar soaps as they tend to dry out the skin. According to Rona Berg, in her book, "Beauty," a French cosmetics executive once told her, "Soap should only ever touch your skin from the neck down." We agree. Choose a creamy cleanser if you have dry skin or a clear cleanser if you have oily skin.

Be careful not to cleanse too often. Washing at night should do you. If you have dry skin, consider cold cream like Pond's, which the French use. Simply apply cream, then wipe off, no water needed (if you have hard water it can be especially harsh on skin). Most women prefer the water method: Use warm water to loosen dirt and clogged pores. Use a dime-sized bit of cleanser, then rinse with cool or lukewarm water. You'll also want to take off your makeup with a proper makeup remover.

In the morning, a splash of lukewarm water is all you need (we find it's great for removing excess oils from your nightly moisturizing). Never wash your face with hot or cold water (both can cause broken capillaries). Also be careful about overcleansing skin, see signs you are overcleansing your skin.

Step 2: Exfoliate
Exfoliation is the step most people skip in their weekly skincare routine. But trust me, if you start properly exfoliating your skin, you will notice an almost immediate difference. According to Berg, one of the reasons men's skin looks more youthful than women's is because men tend to exfoliate daily when they shave. There are several ways to exfoliate skin: Microdermabrasion, chemical peels and retinoids.

See my list of the best facial scrubs and microdermabrasion kits.

Scrubs work by removing the top layer of dead skin cells that tend to dull your complexion. We find exfoliating skin once a week with a microdermabrasion kit keeps skin glowing year-round. Make sure you use a gentle scrub with tiny grains. Big grains in cheap scrubs can tear skin and cause more harm than good. My favorite microdermabrasion kit is made by Lancome.

In the hour it takes to get a chemical peel, you can take off five years from your face. Can't afford the price tag for a monthly peel? Try some over-the-counter peels that work over the course of a month. I prefer MD Skincare's.

Retinoids (such as Retin-A or the more moisturizing Renova) also work by removing the top layer of dead skin cells while also generating collagen in the skin. "Collagen is the skin's structural fiber," dermatologist Dennis Gross said in O Magazine. "As we get older, it breaks down, creating lines and large pores." Skincare experts disagree on all sorts of things, but most of them consider retinoids to be a miracle skin saver. I'm addicted to Retin-A, which I pick up in Mexico on my yearly jaunts.

Should you use a toner? Some people swear by toners, but many beauty experts do not (I once read a skincare expert claim, "toners are only for copy machines"). Toners are meant to remove all remaining traces of oil, makeup and dirt, but a good cleanser should do this. I firmly believe it's up to you. If you like the way your skin feels with a toner. Buy it. Use it. Enjoy it.

Step 3: Moisturize
While I know of at least one famous beauty editor who swore skin doesn't need moisturizer, basically everyone else I've read disagrees and is an adamant believer in it. A basic law of beauty is that everyone, no matter her skin type, should moisturize. Even if your skin is oily, it will benefit from moisturizers. (The only exception is those with acne). Why? Moisturizers seal moisture into skin (Berg calls this the "Saran Wrap effect"). So how much should you moisturize? Your skin will tell you. When your skin is tight, it's crying out for moisture. Be careful not to overmoisturize -- this can clog pores.

See my list of the best moisturizers on the market.

Are eye creams necessary? Well maybe. Some beauty experts strongly recommend eye creams. Why? The skin around the eye contains no fatty tissue and is therefore very thin and susceptible to wrinkles. Special eye creams are formulated to "thicken" this area. Yet other experts (including the beauty editors of Allure in their new book) claim your daily lotion works around the eyes just as well.

See my list of the best eye creams.

Step 4: Apply Sunscreen

How should I phrase this sentence?

Labels:

Ally

I'm writing on women's roles and I'm having trouble trying to phrase this sentence.. Here are the pieces of what I want to say. How would you word it?

From olden times (I will get the specific date) when women were expected to stay at home and take care of the children while men were out doing the work, from WWI when women were now expected to take over the men's jobs while they were overseas, from the risky skin-showing flapper girls in the 1920s to the (I'll insert something here) there is today, the image of what a women should be determined by society is constantly changing.

This is a HUGE run on sentence, I know. But I have no idea how to word it to make it make sense but still include everything in there. Please help!

Answer
How about something like this...

For centuries, the role of the woman in the household was to tend to the affairs of the home and care of the children while the man was expected to be working as the financial provider for the family. But at pivotal historical points, world events dictated that the role of women would need to change. And change it did: In the New World, women's suffrage began as early as 1756 when Lydia Chapin Taft was allowed to vote in three New England town meetings. World War I required women to take over jobs traditionally held by men so that the men could fight overseas. This new-found freedom (and responsibility) emboldened the formerly 'weaker sex' to what were perceived as shocking and risque activities and dress--as seen, for example, iin the skin-showing flapper girls in the 1920s. The image of what a woman 'should be' or 'could do' was further amplified by the efforts of Nineteenth Amendment, and later, by the Women's Liberation Movement of the 60's. And the image continues to evolve.

Marijuana reactions... Mine is different - Good or bad?

El Rey

So me and friends smoke from time to time.

When I smoke, Im usually the most chill person in the group. I can laugh, and make jokes, but usually Im the first one to fall asleep from being so burnt out.

Whilst my friends are all laughing and have a jolly good time.

The high effect isnt bad, I love it. I feel tiny bubbles underneath my skin. Im just wondering if its weird that I react differently compared to numerous friends.

Answer
Tolerance, just smoke more often and youl stay awake longer
Marijuana isnt bad for you. Its only illegal because Harry Anslinger
(head of treasury in 1930s) was having his multibillion industry threatened, so he appointed his nefew as head of dangerous drugs and narcotics, secret meetings were held to try to find a way to make one of the worlds best resources out of the way. Eventually the made a movie called "reefer madness"(look it up on google video[not on youtube]). All it did was tell lies to trick the naive americans into teahing thier children not to, and so on. America has been suffering eversince. in the 1920s it was predicted that all car fuil would be run an hemp, but those greedy bastards had to go and screw up everything for america. if you realy care go to norml.org (gives many facts of benifits of marijuana + pro-legalization of marijuana) if you have any questions or would like to know some helpful info when chosing where you stand you can email me (yahoo, if you scan these please dont delete my comment for this) nirvana270793@yahoo.com
if we ever want to make a natrual resource that was falsly accused of wrong doing we must make our voices heard (norml.org, ect.. email me if you want to know ways to stand for justice, [also sory if you dont care for politics but he can realy help, as he is the only presidential candiday that will talk about the taboo subject, due to fear of not getting elected Ron Paul, you can go to ronpaul2008.com]
Its a plant not an evil drug (also can be used to replace 10-20% of potentialy addictive and costly medications)

Any Organic Beauty Supply Store In NY ?

Chanel Jea

Does Anyone Know Any , Hair Supply Stores Or Just Even Any Shops That Sell Like Organic Shampoo , Conditioner , Lotion , Acne Kits , Just A Good Healthy Store Lol , Located In New York City , Because Im Trying To Change Up Some Things In My Daily Routine , Become More Healthy .

Answer
Know there is no Organic regulation for cosmetics/beauty supplies so anyone can call any of these products Organic, even though they don't have a single certified organic ingredient in them. I seriously doubt you will find an Organic beauty supply store but you can find Organic beauty products at any good health food store.

This website has a lot of information about this including lists of products that are not organic, despite their claims. And products that are all organic http://www.organicconsumers.org/bodycare/index.cfm

Really bad dry skin issues?

Labels:

Style Poli

I have really bad dry skin on my hands and feet, and other areas like elbows and knees. I have to use dry skin lotion up to five times a day, and its quite annoying sometimes :\ and it gets worse when i go out into the cold and stuff. Any ideas how to get soft hands, and moisturized skin? I need help desperately! Thanks in advance:)

Answer
Dry skin is is a chronic skin diseases that frequently affects millions of people around the world. If you are troubled by this kind of skin condition, it means your skin lacks moisture and tender care is needed to restore the skin back to its former self.

Several problems are usually associated with the presence of dry skin. First, the skin will show signs of itchy red rashes that tend to disturb sleep and makes rest unattainable. In much more severe cases, swelling can occur and the skin tend to looks slumped and wrinkled. In fact, many common skin ailments like eczema and psoriasis are a direct cause of dry skin. Wrinkles and fine lines are the most obvious examples of consequences due to this skin problem.

So what can you do if you are facing this irritating but non life threatening skin problem?

When it comes to getting rid of dry skin, you need to understand that there are no quick fix. It is almost impossible to find a cure that can be applied whereby positive results can be achieved by the next following day.

To get rid of this problem in the first place, it is important to understand what causes dry skin (that is why you have dry skin) to occur. Usually, different factors like side effects from medication, bad lifestyle habits (e.g smoking), inadequate nutrition, environmental factors and advanced age are common explanations as to why one would have dry skin.

By determining what is the triggering factors for your dry skin, chances are, you will be able to control it better. Unfortunately, it is not easy to find out what cause you to have dry skin in the first place. You need to isolate each single cause before you can effectively point out what is the underlying cause. And there could be many of them.
But more importantly however, you need a logical treatment plan that can help you to effectively control the problem and allow the time for the skin to heal properly. You also need to change your lifestyle and make use of products that can help your dry skin. Here are a few useful tips which may be helpful for you to eradicate your dry skin.

1. Use a moisturizer.

A good moisturizer can help you to maintain moisture in your dry skin. Every time you feel your skin starting to feel dry, you should quickly apply a generous layer of moisturizer to make them wet again.

2. Eat more fruits and vegetables

These contains a lot of vitamins and minerals which are helpful for your skin. Try to consume at least 3 servings per day.

3. Baths

Hot showers always clear away the nutrients from our skin. That is very damaging to people with dry skin especially. Engage in shorter baths and use lukewarm water instead.

Lush skin care does it works?

Beatles

I need alot of opinions on Lush skin care
I want to try
1.Baby face cleanser bar
2. celestial face moisturizer
3. Blueberry's face mask

I want to if if works great on skin this are sensitive skin line I want if it leaves skin good or no any other lush suggest are welcome what are your favorite face skin care. can you suggest body wash or bar soap
also body lotion from lush thanks in advance

10 points for the best answer!

Answer
Baby Face is really great for removing makeup. I haven't tried Celestial yet. It might be a bit heavy for my oily, acne prone skin, but I requested a sample on Lush UK order that I placed earlier today, so we'll see what I think of it (I wanted a heavier moisturizer for the winter because I live in a very cold climate and the wind and cold dries out my skin). Catastrophe Cosmetic is supposed to be a really great mask. I don't have a Lush store near me (I order everything from the UK), so I've never tried it. I'll be making a 2 hour trip to my nearest store in October and may come home with that mask (I haven't decided which one I want to try yet).

I really love Angels on Bare Skin cleanser. It's great for all skin types (even sensitive). I'd also suggest Fresh Farmacy. It's good for people with sensitive skin (because of the calamine) and for skin that is acne prone. Breath of Fresh Air Toner Water would be really great for your skin. I'd suggest going into a store and talking to one of the friendly sales associates. They are very knowledgeable about the products and will be able to find you something that works perfect for you.

I really love Rub Rub Rub shower gel. It smells amazing and exfoliates your skin. I also like The Olive Branch shower gel. For bar soaps, I really like Sea Vegetable, 17 Cherry Tree Lane (Retro; can only be bought on lush.com; has the same scent as Rub Rub Rub), Vanilla in the Mist, The Godmother, Miranda (Retro, lush.com only) and Rockstar. I really really love Lemslip Buttercream. It only contains 15% soap, so it still cleanses but is more moisturizing than bar soap and it smells AMAZING. I have a few favorite body lotions. I love Coco Lotion (not in North America yet, but can be ordered from Lush UK) and Vanilla Dee-Lite. Coco is very lightly scented (almost unscented) and Vanilla Dee-Lite smells delicious; it's unlike any other vanilla scent out there. Dreamcream is really great for my dry itchy winter skin. It soothes my skin and helps it heal.

Im 20 years old and i started to have a really healthy lifestyle.. my friends make fun of me and tell me i shouldnt even think about that stuff, (they smoke, eat whatever, whenever, dont exersice, etc)... my question is, is my healthy lifestyle going to be worth it? will i look better in my 40s than most?

Answer
From my personal experience:
I've led a very clean life since my early twenties, excercised regularly, followed a good diet with plenty of veggies and fruit, low sugar, low caffeine and maintained rigorous skin care. Now I'm 34 and still look no more than 25, so yes, it helps.
I also don't drink alcohol - I may have a glass of wine twice a year - that's it. And of course drink about a gallon of water a day.

I have fair skin and I want to tan it?

Joe Steez

Okay, i have kinda fair skin and i want to tan it. Do you know any ways to tan it good? I've tanned with tanning oil and i got barely tanner. Any other quick ways? I don't want to use spray tans also.

Answer
Spray on tans look fake. Real tans damage your skin. You will have leather akin when you are older, there's also the issue of cancer.

Tanning oil makes the sun's rays more damaging to your skin. If you insist on trying, don't do so quickly. You'll only get sunburn and that will be a major problem.

Wile you may not worry now since you are young, you will care later. I am 54 years old and fair skinned. I have never laid out to get a tan. I may be 54 but I could easily pass for mid/late 40s. I honestly think it's because I've taken care of my skin when I'm out in the sun!
