What job would let me create natural skin care products?

Labels:

skin care remedies on Skin Structure Diagram: Melbourne Dermatology Skin Care

I'm not sure if being a naturopathic dermatologist is what I would need to be. I'm interested in studying natural skin care and creating remedies for it. The people are Burt's Bees, or Aubrey Organics, are they chemists? Dermatologists? What do I need to study to do this? Thanks!

Answer
If you are just looking to create skin care products, then anyone can do this in their basement or garage. Once you do your research on the ingredients, find a way to combine them and market them, you send your formulas to a pharmaceutical maker like http://www.youngpharm.com/ and work with them on finalizing development.

If you are looking to do this on a professional level with an established company, then a chemistry degree would be your first step. You may look at botany, biology, microbio, and organic chemistry heavy schooling as well.

How to get almost flawless skin in 10 days?

Hannah

ok... so I know I am sorda being unrealistic but I am going to Washington DC and I want to look nice with minimal to no makeup.. I am RAW VEGAN. My general meal plan goes like this: Breakfast: Strawberry, banana, pineapple smoothie with rice milk. I blend it then stir in 1 organic free range raw egg yolk. Snack: more fruit! (apple, orange, berries, melons, or basically whatever fruit my mom buys haha). Lunch: Large variety salad w/balsamic vinegar and olive oil and avocado... and lots of other healthy veggies. Snack: nuts and fruit. Dinner: Huge salad again. Dessert: (I allow myself to have 1 cheat item on this diet for motivation to continue) Peanut butter (I know, it is not raw...) banana and honey... Note: organic raw honey.. and organic banana.. and organic peanut butter.. so.. obviously the thing I cheat with is not that bad.. and it is good to balance all the sugar I eat from fruit!

Anways... I drink an ok amount of water.. but I should up it probably...

I workout just about everyday....

It is like my 25th day on this journey... I got rid of ALL my acne!!! (:

What my skin looks like: pale, dark spots all around my face and then right above my tee zone, my skin easily can become uneven.... Note: I wear sunscreen when I go out in the sun.. Each day, the dark spots shrink and lighten.. They are not like completely crazy looking or anything but it is noticable....

I wash my face every night with black african soap... I moisturize with rose hip oil and castor oil... my spot treatments are range from: baking soda, aspirin, tea tree oil... but those can be harsh for my sensitive skin... I am going to start using honey?? maybe... In the morning I spray my face with 5.5 cleansing kangen water.. and moisturize with small amounts of castor oil... I rub well (:

I think I am doing great.. although... I would like tips and advice to do even better! Like what foods help with my problem areas.. or what natural skin care remedies help with my problems.. or how much water I should be drinking... you know what I mean??? lol ahaha thanks in advance. (:

Answer
A raw vegan would not eat egg yolk or honey.

You could possibly be detoxing and these are just symptoms of that.
You could try organic fresh squeezed lemon and organic ACV.
Eating sugar (fructose) from fresh fruit is not bad and will not have horrible side effects, even if you are diabetic. Just be sure to balance your fruit with vegetables, especially dark greens.

Try eating 80% carbs (yes carbs) from fruit and veggies, 10% fat (coconut oil, nuts, seeds, and things like peanut butter - it can be raw if you make it yourself), 10% protein.
Aim to add some fresh fruit or even fresh squeezed lemon juice in your water (a good measure is about a gallon a day).

Take note of your type of sunscreen. A lot of sunscreens on the market of dangerous due to the chemicals contained.

The point is to alkalize your body. Aim for organic whenever possible.
I hope this helps. :)

Skin rash from glycolic acid in Vivite Skin Care products?

catywhumpa

I recently tried the Vivite Skin Care line with has anti oxidant's in it. One of the ingredients are glycolic acid. With in 3 days I have developed an itchy rash on my face, mostly on my cheeks and jaw line. Any suggestions on how to treat this and heal what ever damage has been done? I have stopped using the products, and when ever I apply moisturizer it stings really bad.

Answer
Glycolic acid is a sugar cane derivative, it can be very strong. I don't know what percentage it was, but it is used as a peeler. Use a vitamin c serum. It may sting a little when you apply it if your face is still tender. Derma E makes a great product that also contains alpha lopoic, great product.

Razor burn treatment?

tend skin care solution 8 oz image

Dummets

i have razor burn and i want a fast way to get rid of it. I have an aloe vera plant, should i use its gel and put it on my upper lip area? will it get rid of the razor bumps faster? also what other ways are there. i heard baby rash cream works too, does it?

Answer
I get razor burn all the time, I always have. I bought TEND SKIN a week ago and I am very happy with the results. I noticed improvement within 24 hours of using it. You cannot use it if you are allergic to aspirin. It somehow works to eliminate razor burn and ingrown hairs. I love it. It is rather expensive but you can make your own with a few simple ingredients

solution 1:
18 tablets uncoated aspirin, crushed
5 oz. rubbing alcohol
combine.

solution 2:
8 tablets uncoated aspirin, crushed
2.5 oz. witch hazel
combine.

combine the two solutions. the aspirin will settle a bit, so shake it before use. apply to the bikini area to prevent ingrowns. it can also be used to spot treat blemishes. (aspirin is acetic and salicylic acids.)

I just mixed it up today, and i am going to start using it tomorrow. I still have tend skin left and it works miracles, but I am going to try this much cheaper version and hope for the same results.

As far as razors, I use the Fusion razor by Schick i think. It is a men's razor but who cares! It has 5 blades so you hardly ever have to go over the same spot twice (which is what causes razor burn to be worse). I also use a sensitive skin shave gel, skintimate or anything really as long as it is for sensitive skin. Cleaning the skin before shaving to remove any dirt that may be on the skin also helps.

Good luck in being bump free!

Should I take my nose ring out?

Q. I got my nose pierced about a month ago. And, within days my piercing started acting up. I ignored it, but it has progressively gotten worse. The skin inside my nose is swolen and I can no longer feel the end of my nose ring on the inside. On the outside, there is a bump. It's surrounding the whole piercing and it's kind of a purple color. You can't see it if I keep the nose ring in, but once I take it out it looks almost like a pimple. It's impossible to cover with makeup...I tried.
I don't know if I should take my nose ring out, because if I do, it's so ugly and I can't cover it! But I'm afraid if I keep it in, it's going to scar.
What should I do?! Someone help me please!

Answer
1. You should not be touching it or putting anything on it besides what you use to clean it with.
2. Don't take it out as the infection can get trapped in there when it is healed.
------------------
Aftercare Guidelines for Body Piercings
Cleaning Solutions

Use one or both of the following solutions for healing piercings:
⢠Packaged sterile saline solution with no additives (read the label), or a non-iodized sea salt mixture: Dissolve 1/4 teaspoon of non-iodized (iodine-free) sea salt into one cup (8 oz.) of warm distilled or bottled water. A stronger mixture is not better; a saline solution that is too strong can irritate the piercing.
⢠A mild, fragrance-free liquid soapâpreferably anti-microbial or germicidal.
CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS FOR BODY PIERCINGS
⢠WASH your hands thoroughly prior to cleaning or touching your piercing for any reason.
⢠SALINE soak for five to ten minutes once or more per day. Invert a cup of warm saline solution over the area to form a vacuum. For certain piercings it may be easier to apply using clean gauze or paper towels saturated with saline solution. A brief rinse afterward will remove any residue.
⢠SOAP no more than once or twice a day. While showering, lather up a pearl size drop of the soap to clean the jewelry and the piercing. Leave the cleanser on the piercing no more than thirty seconds.
⢠RINSE thoroughly to remove all traces of the soap from the piercing. It is not necessary to rotate the jewelry through the piercing.
⢠DRY by gently patting with clean, disposable paper products. Cloth towels can harbor bacteria and snag on jewelry, causing injury.
WHAT IS NORMAL?
⢠Initially: some bleeding, localized swelling, tenderness, or bruising.
⢠During healing: some discoloration, itching, secretion of a whitish-yellow fluid (not pus) that will form some crust on the jewelry. The tissue may tighten around the jewelry as it heals.
⢠Once healed: the jewelry may not move freely in the piercing; do not force it. If you fail to include cleaning your piercing as part of your daily hygiene routine, normal but smelly bodily secretions may accumulate.
⢠A piercing may seem healed before the healing process is complete. This is because tissue heals from the outside in, and although it feels fine, the interior remains fragile. Be patient, and keep cleaning throughout the entire healing period.
⢠Even healed piercings can shrink or close in minutes after having been there for years! This varies from person to person; if you like your piercing, keep jewelry inâdo not leave it empty.
WHAT TO DO

⢠Wash your hands prior to touching the piercing; leave it alone except when cleaning. During healing, it is not necessary to rotate your jewelry.
⢠Stay healthy; the healthier your lifestyle, the easier it will be for your piercing to heal. Get enough sleep and eat a nutritious diet. Exercise during healing is fine; listen to your body.
⢠Make sure your bedding is washed and changed regularly. Wear clean, comfortable, breathable clothing that protects your piercing while you are sleeping.
⢠Showers tend to be safer than taking baths, as bathtubs can harbor bacteria. If you bathe in a tub, clean it well before each use and rinse off your piercing when you get out.
WHAT TO AVOID

⢠Avoid cleaning with Betadine®, Hibiciens®, alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, Dial® or other harsh soaps, as these can damage cells. Also avoid ointments as they prevent necessary air circulation. Click here to download information on triclosan dangers
⢠Avoid Bactine®, pierced ear care solutions and other products containing Benzalkonium Chloride (BZK). These can be irritating and are not intended for long term wound care.
⢠Avoid over-cleaning. This can delay your healing and irritate your piercing.
⢠Avoid undue trauma such as friction from clothing, excessive motion of the area, playing with the jewelry, and vigorous cleaning. These activities can cause the formation of unsightly and uncomfortable scar tissue, migration, prolonged healing, and other complications.
⢠Avoid all oral contact, rough play, and contact with othersâ bodily fluids on or near your piercing during healing.
⢠Avoid stress and recreational drug use, including excessive caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol.
⢠Avoid submerging the piercing in unhygenic bodies of water such as lakes, pools, hot tubs, etc. Or, protect your piercing using a waterproof wound-sealant bandage (such as 3M⢠Nexcare⢠Clean Seals). These are available at most drugstores.
⢠Avoid all beauty and personal care products on or around the piercing including cosmetics, lotions, and sprays, etc.
⢠Donât hang charms or any object from your jewelry until the piercing is fully healed.

What would you do working as a General merchandise?

JesusIsLov

At safeway or Albertsons?

Answer
There are two types of general merchandisers:

General Merchandise clerks are responsible to make sure the general merchandise section of the store is well-stocked for our customers. General merchandise products include but are not limited to, health and beauty products, over-the-counter medicines, candy, magazines, tourist items, and seasonal merchandise. They order, receive, store, and stock products while ensuring proper inventory control, product rotation and quality. They create and build product displays, ensure proper fronting of products, and handle product damages and credits according to company policy. General merchandise clerks must be familiar with store products and their locations in order to assist customers in locating items. In addition, they must be able to perform all duties of a cashier.

Other type of general merchandiser:

As a merchandiser, you will be responsible for deciding which goods to stock in which shops and how they should be displayed. In large retail companies, merchandisers you're likely to be dealing with a single range of products, while in a smaller company you may be responsible for both the buying and merchandising.

Essentially, merchandisers predict trends and fashions and decide which products are most likely to appeal to customers. You'll analyse sales information, work out sales targets and plan how to increase profits. You'll visit suppliers or manufacturers to select goods, which is likely to involve working closely with retail buyers. You will also negotiate a price, order the goods, agree a delivery date, complete all the necessary paperwork, and keep in touch with suppliers to make sure that the goods arrive on time.

You'll be working closely with visual display staff and department managers to decide how goods should be displayed to best attract customers' attention. This might involve planning and setting up sales promotions and advertising campaigns.

You may also travel to different stores to discuss how well stock is selling, and make decisions about whether to withdraw, increase or move it to another store. Computers play an important part in the work, and are used to handle sales statistics, produce sales projections and present spreadsheets and graphs.

What exactly is the problem with healthcare in america?

I am to help contribute to a group project, my responsibility is to discuss the "status-quo" solution to the economic healthcare problem. Any suggestions as far as resources i could use, or any personal knowledge?

Answer
NOTHING that can't be fixed cheaper than 10 trillion dollars! That is what it will cost by the end of 10 years...it is set in stone. To cover 9 million more people...

And those that think health care is important ..why isn't it important for EVERYONE THEN..not just 9 million more ? WHy not EVERYONE? People cannot afford health care now cannot afford it then...and to spend 10 trillion dollars on 9 milion people is RIDICULOUS!

There is much you can do to change health care expenses...but the dems won't have any part of it. They have shut off phone and emails so you can't complain...they wont' listen...THEY HAVE AGENDAS and to HELL with everyone else!

THIS IS NOT GOVERNMENTAL RESPONSIBLITY..it is a personal one...and we are not like other nations...and it is not good enough for other nations.

This is why europe's health care is not so great..

For all types of cancers, European men have only a 47.3 percent five-year survival rate, compared to 66.3 percent survival rate for American men. The greatest disparity was in prostate cancer, which American men are 28 percent more likely to survive than European men.

European women are only 55.8 percent likely to live five years after contracting any kind of cancer, compared to 62.9 percent for American women.

In five cancers -- breast, prostate, thyroid, testicular and skin melanoma -- American survival rates are higher than 90 percent. Europeans hit a 90 percent survival rate for only one of those -- testicular cancer.

Most disturbingly, many cancers in Europe are discovered only upon the victim's death -- twice as many as in the U.S. Consequently, the European study simply excluded cancers that were first noted on the death certificate, so as not to give the U.S. too great an advantage.

There are still a lot of people on here that think this is FREE HEALTH CARE and don't realize they have to pay for this. WHAT A WAKE UP CALL when they have to pay...plus pay the high taxes. Canada alone pays over half their pay check to health care...you think health care is expensive now..wait and see what it is.

Then you get AMNESTY...in MAY of next year...yep...MILLIONS MORE TO COVER..and YOU PAY FOR IT because it is on a sliding scale fee. You can pay 10,000 dollars for the same thing someone is paying 50 bucks a month for.!

FAIR? NOPE...but the dems think so because they are too busy spending their money on things they cannot do without such as psp's cell phones etc..instead of taking care of their lives and living within a budget!

CANADA is changing their health care to allow privatized health care because their system is broke and they told BOZO NOT TO DO THIS!

Should i buy proactiv skin care on ebay?

I want to buy proactiv on ebay (new not used) but just in case i dont have enough money, is there a specific set that is the most important. I know theres a whole set with different ones you use in a certain order but whats the most important. I am african american--my skin is oily with random black spots

Answer
Um... it would be better for you to buy it directly from Proactiv (either on their site or there might be a kiosk at your local mall). I know it's more expensive, but it's safer to do it that way. Although, I guess if you want to buy it off Ebay, all I can tell you is to be careful and don't use it if the package doesn't comes with the bottles completely wrapped up.

And, to answer your question. The typical system includes three steps: Renewing Cleanser, Revitalizing Toner and Repairing Lotion. But, I would have to say that getting a four step system that includes the Refining Mask is a good idea, the mask is absolutely amazing.

Many entrepreneurs started small as home-based kitchen cosmetics makers, which turned into today's giant players in the beauty industry.

Today, starting a cosmetics business from home is probably one of the easiest moves to become a part of the lucrative billion-dollar growing beauty industry. New cosmetics makers are popping up everyday. Even though only a select few grow into large corporations, most cosmetics makers earn decent income to lead a fulfilling lifestyle.

There are all sorts of cosmetics, ranging from easy-to-make soaps, oils and lotions to advanced skin care lotions with anti-aging regiments. However, if you are like me, most likely you're more interested in making and selling high-profit, low-cost items with high turnaround.

Here are some highly sellable everyday items to consider:

Lotions
Body Splashes (light cologne)
Lip Balms
Lip Glosses
Body Power
Deodorant

If you think making cosmetics require a sophisticated lab, think again. You can make simple cosmetics in your kitchen by yourself or outsource them to a private label manufacturer. With only $0.10 to $3.00 per item, you can have your product professionally manufactured in a large manufacturing plant and earn many times over (on average, lipstick is sold $8 to $15 a pop).

Now, before upscale retail stores carry your products, you can easily sell them through:

Consignment arrangements with small retail stores
Mall kiosks
At-home parties
Home boutiques (turn one room into a boutique)
Rent tiny spaces at a neighborhood strip mall
Rent spaces within a large department store

I don't really wear makeup. Almost never. But I know I don't take proper care of my skin. I'm youngish still, 22. What should a basic daily skin care routine look like? Wash, moisturizer, toner??? Any advice on routine and products is more then welcome :)

Answer
Morning:

1.) gentle foaming cleanser
Purpose gentle foaming gel cleanser and is for sensitive skin and removes makeup

2.) alcohol free toner
Swanson Tea Tree Oil Toner. It is 99% natural (toner is optional, but I use it to restore ph balance of my skin and control my oily skin. Never use a toner with alcohol because it is irritating and drying!

3.) natural oil free moisturizer
Try Pristine Brallywood Butta Intensive Creme. This is an all natural lotion and it is awesome. CHECK THIS ONE OUT ONLINE! YOU WONT REGRET IT! > <

4.) natural mineral sunblock
Try Jason Natural Mineral Sunblock $6.89 at swansonvitamins.com and retail price is $13. Works for sensitive skin) Avoid sunscreen with oxybenzone(hormone imbalance) and retinol(wrinkles). Use avobenzone, titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, and antioxidants.

Night: gentle foaming cleanser

1.)alcohol free toner

2.)Serum (Jeune D' Age Organics Hydrating, Firming Anti-Aging Serum. OMG BEST NATURAL SERUM EVER! $30 for one month supply. contains 30 packs.)

3.) Use same moisturizer as you use in the day time. Make sure it doesn't contain Spf!

4.) Beauty sleep= healthy, radiant skin

For acne-prone skin, try one of these:
* Clinique's Acne Solutions Cleansing Foam
* Clean & Clear Advantage Acne Cleanser
* Topix Benzoyl Peroxide 5% Wash
Nutrients That Save Face
The key nutrients for skin health include antioxidant vitamins C and E, selenium, vitamin A, vitamin D, zinc, protein, healthy fats, and water.

* Vitamin C, vitamin E, and selenium may reduce the risk of photoaging and skin cancer.
* Vitamin A (carotenoids) helps protect skin against sun damage.
* Vitamin D helps boost immunity and aids in healing.
* Zinc helps with rapid cell growth, such as during wound repair.
* Protein provides your body with the basic building blocks for collagen, the main structural component of skin.
* Healthy fats (essential fatty acids) help maintain healthy skin cell membranes and reduce inflammation.
* Water helps keep your skin hydrated and plump.
Best Practices
# Wear protective clothing and hats as an additional measure of protection.
# Avoid the sun during peak hours (10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.)
-Apply sunscreen at least 30 minutes BEFORE you go out into the sun
If you go into the sun immediately after applying sunscreen, stay in the shade for the first 30 minutes.
_Reapply your sunscreen about every 2 hours.
_Use an SPF-containing lip balm whenever you are out in the sun.
Tips for Preventing Breakouts

* Choose "noncomedogenic" hair, skin, and makeup products.
* Avoid touching your face with your hands. Hands can spread bacteria to facial pores.
* Rinse off soon after working out to help prevent sweat and skin oils from mixing and clogging pores.
* Avoid overwashing or using harsh scrubs. These can cause excess oil production.
* Keep stress under control. Stress doesn't cause acne, but it may lead to overproduction of skin oils.

What ingredients should I look for in a skin cream?
An effective skin cream will contain ingredients that help minimize your skin's water loss. Look for creams with glycerin moisturizer (glycerin) , silicones, dimethicone and mineral oil. Creams containing synthetic or natural lipids (fat) work to imitate your natural skin and can also be effective

what is it? what can it do to you? use small words. i looked this up on wikipedia and it was like an ap physics class. Its like radio waves that affect someone or somthin like that right? im so confused. is it contagious? its on the news how japanese workers got infected with low levels of radiation and had to be like un-radiatized. like what? i feel stoopid. educate me. when i hear radiation all i think of is like these burnt ppl. tell me:
1) what harm it can cause to a person (BE EXTREMLY SPECIFIC)
2) is it contagious?
3) what are the diff levels of it and what do diff levels of radiation do to you?
4)how do you get rid of it?
5) how do you get it? why does it come after big disasters, what causes it? does it seep into your skin? do you feel radiation some inside of you?

HELP. THANKYAA.

Answer
1.) Radiation comes in 4 major forms:
-High Energy Neutrons: these are the neutrons within atoms that are responsible for chain reactions in fission. This is not an issue unless you're sitting on a reactor, or you've been hit with a nuclear weapon.
-Alpha radiation: VERY dangerous, and when converting to the unit called a "Sievert" which takes into account a 'Quality Factor' (Q) for radiation's effects on humans, alpha emitters have a Q factor of 20. In other words, if you get one "click" on a Geiger counter, it's 20 for you. The upside here is that it can penetrate VERY little, and is rapidly absorbed. If on the other hand, you breath in particles or eat them, you're in a lot of trouble Polonium 210 is a strong Alpha emiter... remember Alexander Litvinenko? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Litvinenko
-Beta: This is responsible for "decay heat", but for your question lets ignore this as an issue for humans.
-Gamma: This is your mom and dad's radiation, it's basically light with an attitude. Gamma radiation has a quality factor of 1, but it's the radiation you need to be far away form, or in a lead casket to avoid. Gamma is used in radiotherapy (radiation for cancer), for that very reason, and it's the radiation behind most radio-imaging (not MRI).

What damage does this do? Well, that's not an easy question, because it depends on the dose you receive, and whether or not you got it all once or in "bits" over time (fractionated dose).
-REM: This is an older unit, and stands for "Radiation Equivalent Man". This was an attempt to measure radiation vs. the human body, and usually you're exposed to Milli(one thousandth of a) REMs. 500 REM in a single dose is generally considered lethal.
-Sieverts (Sv): This is what we'll be using from here on in: you take your REM or Grays and use the Q factor to multiply the dose by. Wikipedia has an excellent table describing the effects of various doses over time.

What does all of this do to a person? Well, these are forms of radiation that are "ionizing", which means that it can 'knock' your DNA about, and do other unfortunate things. The result can be cancer in the long term, but acute doses kill cells. First, cells which rapidly divide such as the lining of mucous membranes (your mouth, entire GI tract, hair follicles) die. This is why at doses of 1-2+ Sv you have hair loss, vomiting and nausea.

Unfortunately, another major system which depends on rapidly dividing cells is your bone marrow, and immune system. Exhaustion due to anemia (lack of red blood cells) is common, as are bleeding disorders. Your body breaks down at the cellular level, and the medical intervention is supportive. I could go on, but if you read the Wikipedia link I gave and some more, you'll get it all.

2.) NO.
Well...
A.)Alpha emitter (you've been hearing about isotopes of Iodine and Cesium, right?) can be mixed with dust and debris and land on you, or be inhaled or ingested. The treatment is to lose the cloths and be decontaminated with rough scrubbing, soap and water.
B.) In the case of radiotherapy which uses embedded gamma emitters (say, for thyroid cancer) CAN cause some exposure for others, but it doesn't "stick" to them.

3.) This is where that link comes it, it lists just that in order.
1 Sievert over the period of a year is not known to be risky, but may increase the chances of cancer later in life. 1-2 Sv in a single dose causes nausea, vomiting, hair loss and other issue in about half of those exposed.3-6 Sv is new territory, and without medical care you're likely to die.
Again, check the link for details. Remember also that such studies are limited to a handful of accidents and guesses, hence the wide range of %'s for illness.

4.) You can't, you can only prevent exposure, except in the case of Alpha emitters, which must be scrubbed and removed.

5.) Light is a form of radiation in the Electromagnetic Spectrum, but this comes back to that term "Ionizing" radiation. The more energy (and therefore shorter wavelength) EM radiation, the more it's likely to 'knock' electrons out of their orbits in your cells, DNA etc... which is bad. This is why there is concern over UV light, but not IR.
The Sun, radioactive elements in the ground such as Radon, radioactive forms of the noble gasses are always with us. You don't feel anything, and it's gamma so it doesn't seep, it just passes through you or is absorbed.

Again, I would read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radiation_poisoning
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ionizing_radiation

What are good products for naturally curly Arican-American hair that is worn natural?

Honey

I have shoulder length, culry, natural hair. I love wearing my hair "wet", however, I can not find the right combination of products that will give me the results that I seek. Everything that I have tried so far eiher leaves me with a curly afro, the air dried poodle look, or hard hair that doesnt move. I want something that will individualize my curls, while leaving my hair soft and shiny with little frizz. Please help ... I do NOT want to perm my hair but I am quickly getting frustrated!
**PLEASE NOTE **
Do not post stupid answers to my questions as an attempt to gain points. If you do not have a substantial answer, please keep moving because I do report point-gaming. Thank you.

Answer
There are two product lines made specifically for your type of hair.
Links:
http://www.naturallycurly.com
http://www.kinky-curly.com/index.html

Styling Options: If you want softer more defined curls try a twist out, this used to be my favorite style.

1. On freshly washed hair apply a good leave in conditioner with a light oil. For extra hold I suggest a wrap foam as well. Comb products thought your hair roots to tips.
2. Don't part with a comb but with fingers, the amount of hair depends on how large you want your curls to be. Twist 2 strands of hair from root to tips in a circular motion around each other.
3. Allow hair to dry, and undo twist.Your curls will be defined and cute. You can apply a oil sheen or a light oil for more shine

Product Suggestions:
Leave In- Elasta QP
Foam wrap lotion- Motions, Silk Elements, Elasta QP
Hair Oils- Carrot Oil, Olive Oil, Jojoba Oil, African 8 Oil, My favorite Kemi-Oil it smells delicious.

Answer
There aren't too many in Mke. There's a Body & Mind Expo that comes to town in the spring.

You may have better luck in the Madison area. MUCH more evolved there!

One other lead is you can check at the House of Magick. If anything is going on, they'd likely know about it.

I just got this in the mail. There's a Spirit Faire being held October 1 and November 26 at Free spirit Crystals in Butler.

Their website doesn't seem to be working, so here's their other info: email crystalhealing@wi.rr.com, 262.790.0748

I think I'm spending wayyy too much money every semester so I'm trying to figure out what an average budget would be. I'm only talking about a budget for food (no meal plan!), toiletries, entertainment, basic necessities, etc. Not for gas or utilities or books or anything like that.

Answer
I would make a plan, break it down by months, list your expenses and plan from that. Try putting a couple hundred into savings too....maybe create a "just-in-case" fund.

You might want to consider using coupons for food and health & beauty items (HBA). You can find coupons in the Sunday paper (Smartsource & Red Plum inserts) and you can find printable coupons at www.smartsource.com and www.coolsavings.com

By shopping at stores like Target, Walgreens, Rite Aid they will take their own store cpn from either the Easysaver catalog/store ad (both found in the front of the store) and a manuf. cpn found in the Sunday paper.

By using both cpns and shopping at Walgreens its been months since I've had to pay any $ for HBA items.

Depends on your city and your campus but look for free entertainment. You can get dvd rentals for free at the public library and Redbox rentals have a free movie code on Mondays.

How do I get rid of sensitive skin?

Will tanning help get rid of sensitive skin? I need to know how to get rid of my sensitive white skin.

Answer
Sun tanning will actually make sensitive skin worse. UV-B burns the epidermis whereas UV-A penetrates into the dermis and breaks out collagen and elastin fibers, which makes you look older than you are. Both increases the risk of skin cancer!!!

The ONLY safe way to tan is with a self-tanner, but even that does not get rid of sensitive skin.

If you are born with sensitive skin, then you cannot get rid of it, but you can surely control it. If you developed sensitive skin for whatever reason such as bad skin care regimen and bad lifestyle habits, then there is a way to treat it and get your skin back to its "normal" level. Regardless of skin tone, sensitive skin is universal to all skin colors. The same goes with age.

Sensitive skin is a result of an impaired skin barrier because allergens and irritants are able to penetrate into the skin and cause inflammation. Therefore, in order to treat your (chronic) condition, you must use products that can replenish the damaged and missing skin barrier components (cholesterol, ceramide, hyaluronic acid, glycosaminoglycans, etc) that strengthens it and enable it to retains moisture better. Another important tip is to use products that are concentrated with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents to keep flare-ups under control.

Now that I have given you the gist of your skin problem, you need to understand that you select products based on solely on skin type. If you are unsure of you complete skin type, take the questionnaire developed by clinical researcher, world-renown board-certified dermatologist, and author of The Skin Type Solutions, Dr. Leslie Baumann. Register first then take the quiz; afterwards, you can visit the specified forum that is tailored to your unique skin type for product recommendations and discussions.

Or, you can visit Beautypedia - a large-scale of product reviews written and managed by Paula Begoun (The Cosmetic Cop) and her team. Generally, the reviews are accurate.

Best Wishes

I'm searching for a skin product that will decrease the age marks, and also help to rejuvinate my tired skin. Has anyone used any products that have actually worked? Cost is not an issue, just want the best product there is.

Answer
My favorite line is Faces Signature SkinCare line and you can find it at http://www.facesbeautyboutique.com but before you buy anything go to this site and take the skin care quiz. An esthetician will email you a customized regimen for your specific skin care concerns. I am looking for something talking about how media influences people's self image and teenagers who suffer from certain eating disorders. Any help would be appreciated! (Also if it is not an online source it would be appreciated AND/OR an online source that was actually published in the newspaper or a book.)

Answer
In a study on fifth graders, 10 year old girls and boys told researchers they were dissatisfied with their own bodies after watching a music video by Britney Spears or a clip from the TV show "Friends".

1996 study found that the amount of time an adolescent watches soaps, movies and music videos is associated with their degree of body dissatisfaction and desire to be thin.

One study reports that at age thirteen, 53% of American girls are "unhappy with their bodies." This grows to 78% by the time girls reach seventeen.

In movies, particularly, but also in television shows and the accompanying commercials, women's and girls' appearance is frequently commented on: 58 percent of female characters in movies had comments made about their looks, as did 28 percent in television shows and 26 percent of the female models in the accompanying commercials. Mens' and boys' appearance is talked about significantly less often in all three media: a quarter (24%) of male characters in the movies, and 10 percent and 7 percent, respectively, in television shows and commercials.

One in every three (37%) articles in leading teen girl magazines also included a focus on appearance, and most of the advertisements (50%) used an appeal to beauty to sell their products.

The commercials aimed at female viewers that ran during the television shows most often watched by teen girls also frequently used beauty as a product appeal (56% of commercials). By comparison, this is true of just 3 percent of television commercials aimed at men.
http://depts.washington.edu/thmedia/view.cgi?section=bodyimage&page=fastfacts

The American research group Anorexia Nervosa & Related Eating Disorders, Inc. says that one out of every four college-aged women uses unhealthy methods of weight controlâincluding fasting, skipping meals, excessive exercise, laxative abuse, and self-induced vomiting.

Teen magazine reported that 35 per cent of girls 6 to 12 years old have been on at least one diet, and that 50 to 70 per cent of normal weight girls believe they are overweight. Overall research indicates that 90% of women are dissatisfied with their appearance in some way.

Researchers report that womenâs magazines have ten and one-half times more ads and articles promoting weight loss than menâs magazines do, and over three-quarters of the covers of womenâs magazines include at least one message about how to change a womanâs bodily appearanceâby diet, exercise or cosmetic surgery.

Eating disorders:

The National Institute of Mental Health estimates that eating disorders affect more than 5 million Americans each year.

Approximately five percent of adolescent and adult women and one percent of men have anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, or binge eating disorder.

Fifteen percent of young women have substantially disordered eating attitudes and behaviors.

Statistics from the National Center for Health Statistics show that "anorexia" or "anorexia nervosa" was the underlying cause of death noted on 101 death certificates in 1994, and was mentioned as one of multiple causes of death on another 2,657 death certificates.

Five to ten million adolescent girls and women struggle with eating disorders and borderline eating conditions.

8,000,000 or more people in the United States have an eating disorder.
90% are women.
Eating disorders usually start in the teens but may begin as early as age 8.

How can somebody vote for obama that has no experience and false hope??

Im not racist beucase I am black. Please answer with honesty. To all obama supporters do you think a president of the strongest economy and strength should have some experince and true hope???? I can prove that Im black. Look at me yahoo 360 page. You might be shocked that I am also a black conservative.

Answer
I am white and I too vote my conscious! I am a conservative as well. I really do not care one way or the other what the color of ones skin is.

I try to vote for the person who shares my ideals.
I for one am very tired of politicians who keep their seats in the Congress year after year but accomplish little.

I would like to see young energetic individuals that have a mission to improve the lives of their fellow man.

As far as experience of the two candidates running for President each has their own. Obama is a young man much like JFK. McCain is somewhat like Reagan. Reagan was the best President we have had in modern times. JFK was killed by persons or groups unknown to many of us because he stepped on too many toes. Obama I think should stay home and gain some more experience. I like him a lot but I am afraid his ideas for change are not shared by us conservatives.

which of these facial cleansers work best for clearing acne?

zafearalei

I have 4 facial cleansers: L'Oreal go 360 clean, Neutrogena all in one acne control, top care daily pore cleanser, and Clearasil daily pore cleansing pads.
I have a lot of black heads and acne and I want to clear it up.

Answer
i think i had the worst acne i have ever seen. i found several things that really work. i have used clean and clear for years. the most expensive product is not always thew best. the neutrogena i would think would be the best. i found a trick that help me it was using just plain witch hazel which you wipe on your face right after you wash your face and pat it dry. wipe your whole face with the witch hazel on a cotton square and let it air dry. you have over active hormones making your face oily. get yourself a good mirror so that you can watch if your face starts to get better. you said you have black heads , because the oily skin catches dirt. don't pick on them biore has strips that you can moisten and place on them, when the strip drys pull it off and you will see you have pulled the black heads out. you will see your face will get better, it will take sometime but you can do it. good luck

SHORTY

I have a 1 month and 3 day year old baby and I want to get him circumcised as soon as possible where can I get him circumcised? I live in Hercules but the locations can be in Pinole, Oakland, Berkeley, Albany, Hercules. Please if you have an answer please respond thanks.

Answer
Please, don't.

There is no medical reason to justify routine infant circumcision. When you compare the risks versus the supposed benefits, the results are staggeringly in favour of leaving them well alone. These are some of the complications: http://www.circumstitions.com/Complic.html

If he decides on circumcision when he's older, he's:

-Not at risk of fatal haemorrhage
-Not at risk of fatal infection
-Not at risk of glans amputation, degloving or adhesions and skin bridges.

Any surgery is easier on an adult and has fewer complications, and the complications are less serious. The reality is though - in a non-circumcising country, which the USA is fast becoming with a neonatal circumcision rate of 33% (and falling) in 2009, it is incredibly rare for an intact man to want to be without his foreskin.

The reasons circumcision still continues in the USA and not in Europe or Australasia are religion and money. Doctors peer-reviewing studies in the USA have an overwhelming cultural or religious bias. These studies are laughed at, refuted and rejected internationally. The lack of a public health system encourages the practice of unnecessary but lucrative surgery - but increasingly, medical insurance companies are refusing to cover circumcision as not only is it deemed a cosmetic procedure, but they're also paying for the fix-ups - around 9% of circumcised boys have meatal stenosis, a narrowing of the urethral opening requiring surgery, virtually unheard of in intact boys.

Some common myths:

- It's easier to keep clean.

It's NOT. An intact penis should only ever be wiped gently like a finger - http://www.fathermag.com/health/boy-care/boy-care.shtml A circumcised newborn's penis is an open wound sitting in excrement. Often, the glans (which is raw where the adhered foreskin has been torn away) begins to heal onto the skin of the penile shaft, resulting in skin bridges: http://www.noharmm.org/IDcirc.htm This is a comparison between cut and intact newborn boys: http://www.drmomma.org/2010/01/cut-vs-intact-outcome-statistics.html

I'll add to that to say that it's also NOT cleaner in adulthood. Around half my partners have been intact and half circumcised. I've never had a smelly intact partner (except a smoker, who smelled like smoke) but I have had smelly circumcised partners. In intact men, the skin hangs freely over the glans. In circumcised men, it bunches behind the coronal ridge, making sweaty folds. I had a partner who found it very hard to stop these folds from stinking of sweat. Cleaning under the foreskin takes the adult man less time than it does for a woman to keep her vulva clean.

-It reduces his risk of HIV

Highly questionable. The studies in Africa were very poorly conducted and controlled for, only showed any benefit for female-male transmission (most sexual transmission in the USA is homosexual) and one study was abandoned when a similar INCREASE in transmission to women was shown. In any case, 60% was the supposed reduction, when the risk can be virtually eliminated with condom use. Any vaccine trial showing a reduction of 60% would be abandoned. More here: http://www.futuremedicine.com/doi/full/10.2217/17469600.2.3.193

-It reduces his risk of UTIs

False. Circumcision commonly causes meatal stenosis in boys, or narrowing of the urinary tract. It is virtually unheard of in intact boys. For this reason, and because the foreskin is no longer protecting the glans and urethra, it may increase his risk of urinary tract infections. In any case, UTIs are rare in boys - even more so after the first 12 months - and can be treated with antibiotics. More on UTIs: http://www.circumstitions.com/Utis.html

- It reduces his risk of STDs

Highly questionable. Other studies have shown no difference or an increase in STD transmission among circumcised men - who may be less likely to use condoms as they already have reduced sensation. In any case - newborns aren't sexually active! This is one he can decide when he's older. http://www.circumstitions.com/STDs.html

- Most men are circumcised

False. Around 80% of the world is intact: http://www.circumstitions.com/Maps.html

- It's just a snip!

False. In adult males, the foreskin has separated from the glans. In infants, it must be torn away from the glans first - yes, even with the Plastibell procedure, which DOES involve cutting. Circumstraints are bolted to a bench and the infant is firmly strapped in place. You don't have to do this for a heel prick. Videos made by and for medical professionals: Gomco - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXVFFI76ff0&has_verified=1 & Plastibell - http://www.drmomma.org/2009/08/plastibell-infant-circumcision.html

How can a teenage girl look pretty?

Jessica Ro

I'm 13 years old and i was wondering if any of you have any tips for me on how to be pretty. I can't wear make up though. Lip gloss is fine. Like for example what kind of clothes to wear, how i could wear my hair, how to get perfect skin, and things like that. I'm already skinny.
Also I'm not trying to impress guys. Surprisingly i don't even have any crushes on them like some girls do.

Answer
Wear jeans that kit kinda snug around the thigh, but flare out a little (boot cut). Wear fun earrings like these:
http://www.claires.com/store/goods/Tweens/cat310271/Drops/p54856/Ready-to-Roll-Dice-Earrings/

Identify the colors that look best on you. For tan to dark skinned people, navy/midnight blue looks AMAZING! For paler people, jewel tones like emerald and ruby look good.

Wear a messy bun:
1. Tie hair into ponytail, leaving a strand of hair out (about an inch thick)
2. Twist ponytail until it curls in on itself, then wrap the rest of your hair around the base of the ponytail, using bobby pins to keep it in place.
3. Curl the strand of hair.

For clear skin:

I know this will sound weird, but use Burt's Bee's Mens Body Soap on your face. It has oils in it that will kill acne-causing bacteria, and the lathering agents in the soap will dry out your face just enough that the pimples will go away, but your skin won't be dry. After the soap, use honey! Yup, that stuff is anti microbial, anti bacterial, and has anti-oxidants. Rub onto face, let sit for 5-8 minutes, then rinse THOROUGHLY. I do that and my skin is clearing up pretty well.

General Tips:
1. Don't try to be trendy. It's a deathtrap.
2. Drink water to keep pimples away.
3. Don't wear a ton of lip gloss. Shiny lips look weird.
4. Curl your eyelashes (but no mascara) to accentuate eyes.
5. To get rid of dark circles, freeze some spoons for a few hours, then put the indented side on your eyes for 5 minutes. This works GREAT!
6. If you have short nails, don't wear nail polish. It looks awful.
7. Whatever you do, DON'T CHANGE YOUR LOOKS FOR FRIENDS OR ANYONE ELSE!!!
8. Buy a Japanese toothbrush that works on solar power and you don't need toothpaste. It's $60 and it actually whitens teeth a little bit (not super white, but pretty white).
9. Instead of lip gloss, use lip balm (not Chapstick). ALBA is a good brand since it hydrates lips while keeping moisture in.
10. Don't care about what other people think. If you have a pimple and people laugh, just say "that is so pathetic" and whatever they say next, don't listen.
Good Luck!

okay so i just went to a spa and got my makeup done
the spa owner used jane iredale makeup..
is that a good brand?
idk if i should buy all of the products she used on mee.

i really like it, but idk..
is it worth it?

and i spent $40 on the makeup application.
did i get ripped off?

Answer
I use a lot of the jane iredale products and I like it.

I think it depends if you're someone who likes mineral makeup. If you don't really care, then I think you might be better off just buying the other stuff as it's cheaper and will give you a similar look, just with added synthetics, etc.

I buy my j.i. makeup through online sites like skincarerx.com or spalook.com since I can always find a 20%off coupon online somewhere.

You could always buy a sample kit from the j.i. site directly if you still want to give it a shot. I think I paid like $26 for mine that had a little sample of blush, eyeshadow, foundation powder, pressed powder, and lipgloss and lipsticks.

Good luck!

Answer
He grew up as a poor, black child living in poverty in a house too small for all the family, in a society torn apart by racism.
He was travelling, missing school around 5 years old, in strip clubs etc, exposed to violence, drugs and sex far too soon. He also witnessed his brothers and father having flings, when he knew his mother was at home.
Although it was more common at the time, he also had an abusive father, in a time when you were condemned for being black, having your own father tell you you are too black can't do much for self-esteem, along with the fact that when you are in the spotlight, you are expected to look perfect, yet he was teased by his family for having a big nose.
He broke his nose in the late 70s, I believe, doing a complicated dance routine, and had to get it fixed - he got it done again to help with breathing struggles.
The pepsi incident meant that he had serious burns and could not grow his hair back in some places on his head. He also fell in love with Diana Ross - and was devastated when she married someone else.
Around the Bad era, Jermaine wrote a horrible song about him, called Word to the Badd - the original lyrics slated his own brother, the lyrics were changed to make it sound like Jermaine was a caring brother who was merely concerned. Bull.
Michael began recieving harsh media attention around Bad. He had a skin condition, Vitiligo, of which there is proof in pics and his autopsy. He had to deal with that identity crisis as a result. He had lost some of his hair, broken his nose and now, was turning light with blotches across his skin << and people blame him for his changing appearance!
He was taken advantage of by too many people. His marriage to Lisa Marie Presley failed, he was twice falsely accused of child abuse, had suffered prescription drugs abuse for over a decade... And all the while, the media gave him hell, ignoring all the charity work and humanitarian effort on his behalf...

What is the best skin care product on the market?

Q. My skin seems to be acting up a little bit due to the weather. I have fairly normal skin, not excessively oily or dry. What's the best product to keep away blemishes? I wash my face everyday in the shower with Wet and Wild skin care, but that's obviously not working. Thanks!

Answer
if you want something form a drugstore buy clean and clear continuous control cleanser with the clean and clear advantage oil-free moisturizer. another thing you can do is go with all natural cleansers. try zyporex, its all natural and just for acne. it gives you a really clean feeling. natural can be the best thing because it doesnt contain harsh chemicals that can irritate your face rather than help.
