Does anyone know of a website where I can find uses for products like vinegar, baking soda, and other products?

I'm looking for a book or a website that has any and all products that you can use for cleaning stuff at home or even for your own health and beauty. I know there is things for vinegar and baking soda. Please help

Answer
I don't know a specific website like you asked, but if you type into google or another search engine something like 'Make your own cleaning products' or 'how to make cleaning products' or even 'household uses for vinegar/ baking soda' something should come up. I think About.Com might have something too.

Although, I suppose you knew that already.

whats the proper way to use olive oil on your hair?

Amber

i bought some today and was told that it would help with damage hair and help it grow some, but what is the proper way to use it. do i wash my hair then use it. do i just damp my hair and then wash afterword?

Answer
Olive oils is good for helping to repair damaged hair and keeping it healthy. Hot oil treatments with olive oil is great and I used to do them several months ago about 2-3 times a week and saw major improvement in my hair. Just keep in mind that if your damage is permanent then nothing can reverse that except a hair cut.

I use to do my hot oils as a pre-shampoo treatment. You can warm the oil in a microwave (warm, not hot) and massage it in your hair for about 5 minutes; massaging opens our pores and causes blood circulation. After massaging it in your can then rinse for a couple of minutes and then shampoo your hair. Oil is hard to get out so you might have to shampoo a few times. You can add a little bit of baking soda to your shampoo and this will act like a clarifier to get out all the dirt and particles that's hard to get out.

You can also warm the oil and put it in your hair for several minutes/hours. Buy a processing/conditioner cap at a beauty supply store like Sally's - the kind they use in hair salons - and put this over your hair and leave in the oils for several minutes or hours (if you have dry hair then you can leave it in longer), and then rinse and shampoo.

If you have a dry hair type then you needn't worry about the oil making your hair greasy or too oily. If not then you might want to make sure you get out all the oil. One of the reasons I stopped doing hot oils was because it became time-consuming and the oil was hard to get out.

You can also buy pure, organic, or virgin coconut oil and use them for hot oil treatments. The way I use coconut oil is to put it in my hair at night (I have a dry hair type) and rinse it out in the morning and I notice my hair is shinier and not as dry as it usually is. Or, you can put a little bit in your hair and take a shower and rinse your hair in the process and you'll notice shinier hair; this process will also make your hair healthier.

Whatever you do just make sure you give it time to work and don't expect immediate results. I noticed major results the first time I did a hot oil with olive oil, but my hair is in pretty good health. If your hair is damaged then it might take some time before you start noticing changes. Also, I've done hot oils on dry and damp hair, so try each way and decide which works better for your hair.

Good luck.

How do you get your own beauty or skin care line?

Alyssa Mar

When I open up a salon I really want to have my own beauty or skin care line. Im just not sure how you get this.

Answer
Congratulations on such a brave initiative! However, it will take a lot of work and unfortunately you won't be able to do it on your own. You'll need help from various people, because it requires knowledge from various fields of expertise. Please allow me to describe the steps you need to take.

1) First of all, you need to decide the span and coverage of your cosmetic line. Will it be for hair only? Will it be for skin care only? Or will you design two different lines, one for hair and one for skin care?
2) You'll have to decide what problems you want your products to solve, such as dandruff, acne, dryness and so on and so forth.
3) Then you'll have to come up with the formula/s of the products. You'll need the help of a specialist with deep knowledge about cosmetic chemistry. You can build the formula/s inspiring yourself from existing beauty products, but remember! It has to be ORIGINAL!
4) After you've come up with the formula/s, you need an approval for it from the health/cosmetic authority in your country. They will give you a some sort of license which will allow you to use your products and charge money for it. This step can take some time, as health and cosmetic authorities don't usually rush approving anything.
5) After you get the approval, you can start the packaging design phase. Here you'll basically need two people: a marketing specialist who will analyze the market and tell you which will be the best packaging type for your products and a graphic designer, which will draw and render the final packaging according to the marketing specialist's insights.
6) Using the graphic designer's final sketches, you'll bring the formula/s and the packaging together in the production phase. First, an industrial factory will create the packaging which will be later on filled with the formula/s.
7) What comes next is the pricing phase. You'll need the help of the marketing specialist again, who will run another analysis on the marketing to establish a competitive price for your products.
8) You have to decide next how will the people know about your new beauty line. If you only want people who come to your salon to see and find out about your products, you just have to exhibit the products in your salon and have your employees talk to your clients about them. If you want a wider coverage, skip to step 9.
9) If you decide upon it, the advertising phase will help you raise awareness among people who don't usually come to your salon to see the products. It requires the help of an advertising agency, which will come with the strategy to promote your products outside your salon through various media channels (TV commercial, print, online, social media etc.)
10) The final step is the most rewarding one of all. You sit back, earn money and enjoy your fame!

Again, congratulations for this bold initiative and best of luck to you!

Sam

I'm thinking about heading into porn, but I don't want to tarnish my name if I am not going to have a certain level of success. I wondering what I could do to set myself apart from other women, or is it just having "star quality"? Something you're born with?
* in response to that question, being in playboy or a magazine would be some kind of dream come true for me, I would be very proud

Answer
Please don't listen to Eoghan g, auditions my rear. Firstly, before I start, I want to tell you I respect your wishes. Its very lovely that you haves hopes like this, no matter how degrading it is in some peoples' eyes. And also, please be careful. There are many scammers and perverts out there who may claim to get you into stardom and big bucks, but it could end up big trouble!

I'll start by being honest. You have to have at least some kind of sexual appeal to people. A seductive voice, large breasts, full lips, whatever feature that can make you can stand out in your benifet. Though, I'm sure, there are some porn stars out there that lack the slightest amount of appeal or beauty without makeup or extreme dieting and surgery.

You're going to need a massive amount of patience and willingness. I don't doubt that you're going to be asked to do something you don't want to do or something extremely queer in your position.

Some skill in acting would help. You're not going to go many places just by going "Oh baby. Yes. More. UHH!" Try to tune your voice and expression.

I would recommend you get insurance. Health, life, whatever. How many STD's and infectious diseases there are in the porn buisness is beyond me.

Experience may help just a bit.

Sexual tolerance. Again, I'm not QUITE sure, but in certain roles and parts of a porn flick I'm sure the director and fellow actor(tresses) won't appreciate a sudden orgasm before you even have your top off.

Like I said, I respect your wishes. But take in mind that like modeling, the career as a porn star can only last so long. It CAN tarnish your reputation and interfere with future careers and jobs. You can't stay in the porn buisness forever. You will age and you WILL lose something of significance. I think some of the answers here have stressed enough some of the consequences! So I won't go on.

You can either pursue your dream as a porn star in a professional manner or you can remain ametaur. I think the ametaur path will be a more suitable and less-tarnishing way, seeing it is not an actual job to post your own little videos on XTUBE or YOUPORN. But you may just get your own little fan club!

Good luck!

Does anybody know how I can shorten this quote or is it small enough?

"As health care has improved and the chances of dying have lessened we have lost touch with death. Rather than seeing it as a natural event we have come to view death in a negative sense, as a failure or something that happens to other people. Dying and death have in many cases changed from being a family event to one that is controlled and stage-managed by doctors and funeral directors."

i wanted to know if there is really any free stuff on the internet.

Answer
Like you, I was curious if any sites out there were really giving away free stuff without any strings attached and were actually legit. I found a couple of cool sites that do give away free stuff that you may also want to check out. The first one is: http://womans-health.net/woman-freebies.htm This site is loaded with free useful information on womenâs health, but it also gives away freebies such as cleaning and bath and beauty supplies. There are also links to free stuff and coupons for babies and 2000 free stuff. So you might want to check that site out for freebies.

I found free business cards and a free fax number on this site: http://www.debit-card-guide.com/free-stuff-and-deals.htm There is also other free stuff links for gift certificates and shopping card offers. There are numerous links on both sites that offer free stuff, it may just take a bit of time browsing through all the offers!

You may also check your local Wal-Mart or their website because they are known to give away new items and products. Hope that helps!

Where is a good FREEBIE site for health and beauty items? I like to give them to less fortunate.?

Whether it's Meaningful Beauty, Dermawand, Lifecell or anything else non surgical of course, please mention only if you have proof that it works and not just online reviews. I hate the circles under my eyes because I'm worried they're aging me and I'm not sure if they're just shadows from my eye shape- that's been mentioned or hereditary, but either way I'd like them gone. Thanks!

Answer
I would say taking care of your aging issue by natural means will be more effective than anything other. Natural mechanism believed to work best when it comes to dealing with aging issue. There are certain foods as well as vegetables which are good for your skin health. What's more you should drink plenty of water to keep your skin moisturized. Also keep yourself away from stressful condition as much as you can.

20 Hidden Taxes In Obamacare

Hidden Real Estate Sales tax in Health care bill â Surprise! There are already at least 20 hidden taxes in the Obama Health care plan coming down upon us the next few years. So, along with rationed care for seniors and forced health insurance, we now find there is a Real Estate Tax snuck into the Health care plan. You may ask, what in Godâs green earth does health care have to do with Real Estate taxes??? Absolutely nothing, that is precisely why one got snuck in there.

There has never been any rhyme or reason to this administration other than redistribution of wealth, socialism and inserting cradle-to-grave control. Using Health care as an excuse for seizing control of accounts and businesses is just one strategy. Obama has also planned all along to use the âenvironmentâ i.e. Cap and Trade to take even more. This will do more than take. It will flatten American business and destroy our sick economy. Who cares what the American people think and what the constitution says! We are just in the wayâ¦..take, take, take.

I was forwarded this latest tax scheme by Van Hipp, President of American Defense International and the former Deputy Secretary of the Army under Bush senior and Ronald Reagan. He recommended the well known accountant and expert witness on tax matters, Paul Guppy who wrote a commentary on the various hidden taxes in the Spokesman Review paper, âHealth Lawâs Heavy impact.â

Starting in 2013, not only will you pay the closing costs and real estate fee when you sell your house but now you will pay a 3.8% Sales Tax. So, if you sell your home for $400,000, perhaps wanting to down size if you are a senior you will pay $15,200 in Tax.

Here we have another assault on our seniors again. Many downsize their homes as retirement comes closer, so along with long lines and rationed care that is substandard, seniors and anyone will have to pay more tax on the home they just sold.

Penalties for individuals: We will pay 2.5% of our annual income as a fine/penalty if we donât purchase the government approved health care plan.

Penalties on families: Parents will pay a yearly $347 per kid if they donât purchase a government approved health care plan.

Penalties on employers: If you are a business with 50 or more employers you will get fined at least $2,000 per employee if you donât provide, once again the âgovernment approved health care plan.

Other special taxes and fees:

Investment income: Anyone making $200,000 or over gets to pay 3.8% of their annual investment income. Start adding up them apples, folks.

If you have a fancy health care plan and pay as an individual, $10,200 or $27,800 for a family, you get to pay a 40% annual tax on those health care plans.

Medical aid devices have gotten hit hard as well. They will see a 2.9% tax hike. Sorry if you have an artificial limbâ¦.you are screwed.

Medicare gets more money because if you earn $200,000 or more you pay a special Medicare tax of 3.9.%

Then there is the 10% tax on tanningâ¦.on and on. Perhaps you should consider an âAlbinoâ beauty treatment.

This Health care bill is nothing but an orgy of controls, tax schemes and rationed care. Now add Real Estate tax to the ridiculous list.

As the new congress comes in this fall, we must immediately put a Bill through to defund this unconstitutional and unaffordable Health care mess! As soon as we have the votes in the House and the Senate to overcome a Veto by Obama, we should repeal it, gut it and bury it clear to China. While we are at it we should put Bushâs tax cuts back in, destroy any vestiges of Cap and Trade and push toward impeachment of Obama.

Get the wrecking crew and clean up team ready. Things are getting pretty smelly.

How do I promote more oil production on skin?

skin care 5 tips for healthy skin image

dave

My skin is really dry and has little to no oil. How can I promote more oil production? I've heard taking fish oil can help, anything else?

Answer
Taking fish oil can hydrate the skin, it cannot promote more oil production. Taking testosterone injection can make you more oily. I used to be super oily and acne all over. I am glad I am dry now! Never again oily skin! Never again!

In short, the loss of lipids that sticks the skin cells together leads to water evaporation, which makes you dry, tight, dull, painful, itchy, flaky or a combination of these symptoms. In healthy skin, the adequate amount of lipids serves as a hydrophobic barrier to ensure water retention.

There is a unique composition of lipids to keep skin healthy: 50% ceramides, 25% cholesterol, and 15% free fatty acids. Sebaceous glands also produce a variety of oils that coat the skin to prevent it from becoming dry; they are: 41% triglyceride, 25% wax monoesters, 16% free fatty acids, and 12% squalene.

EXTERNAL FACTORS ARE USUALLY THE CULPRITS:
1)Low temperature and low humidity (winter) OR high temperature and low humidity (desert-area) weather
2)Harsh detergents in cleansers, shampoo, dishwashing soap, ectcera
3)Excessive/harsh scrubbing
4)Acetone and alcohol in nail polish and skin care products
5)Very hot or cold water bath or shower
6)Chlorinated pool
7)Frequent showers/bathing
8)Central heating and air conditioning
9)Malnutrition

To TREAT and CONTROL dry skin:
1)Replenish the skinâs protective barrier with a well-formulated moisturizer that includes a variety of humectants to draw water into the skin and lipids to seal the moisture in. It is best to apply moisturizer right after a bath or shower when your skin is moist. You should take a shower after swimming to wash off the chlorine and then apply moisturizer.
2)If you are dry and flaky, then you can use a moisturizer with an hydroxy acid exfoliant such as glycolic acid, lactic acid, and salicylic acid.
3)Use gentle cleansers with mild detergents and moisturizers and no fragrance twice a day.
4)Avoid physical exfoliation with scrubs or loofahs.
5)Use a humidifier to increase the vapor level in the atmosphere during low humidity seasons.
6)Take short (e.g. 10-15 minutes) and warm showers or baths to maintain skin barrierâs integrity.
7)Wear tightly woven clothing or use thicker blanket during low temperature seasons.
8)Consume a balance diet high in antioxidants (e.g., fruits and vegetables) and omega 3 and 6 fatty acids (e.g., fish oils, flaxseed, or evening primrose oil).

To PREVENT dry skin, it is imperative that you cautiously avoid the listed external factors. The provided tips should instantly ameliorate dry skin. Otherwise, if your condition does not improve within a few weeks, then it may be a more serious condition.

If you have any of the medical or hereditary skin condition that is associated with dry skin, then you should consult with a board-certified dermatologist for an accurate diagnosis and treatment protocol. These illnesses include atopic dermatitis (eczema), diabetes, ichthyosis, psoriasis, hypothyroidism, and malnutrition. You can do your own preliminary research on these skin conditions online or speak with a local pharmacist.

If you want product recommendations, then you can email me.

I'm 21 year old male and look like 17 but my skin is bad from acne scarring. How do I keep my skin looking healthy? I don't know anything about skin care.

Answer
I had pronounced scars from childhood accidents, acne scars, dark marks and a mass of freckles and this treatment got completely rid of them. See testimonials from treatment users below ##
To avoid skin pulling/stretching make tighten skin by partially opening mouth and pulling lips firmly back against teeth then massage them over and over many times vigorously using extra virgin olive oil or coconut. They are noncomedogenic - so do not clog or cause breakouts. or make skin oily.
USING BOTH HANDS AT SAME TIME do forward and back massage using front and tips of fingers and palms (where you can) Circular massage will not work.
The massaging friction rubs them away and forces a clear new skin to appear.

For best/quickest results gradually build up to a daily 20 min or more massage(skin and hands have to first adjust). Can be in two or more sessions. You should get results in about 7 to 14 days - depending on how frequently/how long you massage.

##
From: Shaboo

I heard they are only in sunday papers, but I don't use sunday papers. Is there a good online place where I can easily get the coupons, but does the stores accept print coupons? I heard that certain places will double the coupon face value, but how do I know which company do that? Which companies usually do that? I don't eat much processed food, so maybe coupon wouldn't help me much?

Answer
There are places where you can print out grocery coupons and more from your computer. A friend just recently told me about it...He has printed out over $600 in grocery coupons this last month (March 09).

You can save money with National and Local companies, too!

I live in Fresno, California. I just plugged in my zip code and got over 400+ products, services, and stores in a 25 mile radius from my home! Many are national companies and the rest are local. Plus, countless numbers of grocery coupons from Betty Crocker, Pillsbury, Lucky Charms, Frosted Flakes, Hamburger Helper, and many more, along with coupons for over the counter drugs, too.

Below are just a few examples of place you can save money in Fresno. You can put your zip code in too.

AUTOMOTIVE: Big O Trires, Discount Tires, Pep Boys Auto Centers, AAMCO Transmissions, Goodyear auto services- Hertz, Avis, and Budget Rental......
HEALTH AND BEAUTY: Jenny Craig, Gold's Gym, Sally Beauty Supply, Astrum Hearing Solutions-HEARING AIDS, Beltone hearing aids, Eye Exam of California, Lenscrafters, .....

P.S. I was also able to purchase gift certificates from local restruants for $25 and only paid $2-$5 for...it is cheaper to eat out then it at home.

I hope this helps.

Could anyone here envision electing politicians with a more humanistic viewpoint?

Gnosisques

By humanistic I mean a view which defines all humans as important, where knowledge and adventure is a greater motivation than wealth and power. Where all people are guaranteed food and shelter; where honesty and integrity replace lies and deception. Where beauty and art is more important than muscles and testosterone.

What say you? None of us are going to get out of this alive and I was just thinking we would all be better off if we worked together?
JR: A small minority of the population is against a peaceful society, about 0.5%. Now we know which percentage you are. Those fighting against society are the true evil people and it is not even one percentage of the population, why should we let them rule?

Answer
It is hard to be Humanistic when 536 Politicians have CONTROL over 310,000,000 Americans.

That is why the founders set up Strong State Government....to put control and power as close to the people as Possible.

That MUCH Power in So Few Hands breeds CORRUPTION and Dishonesty.

Here is my FIX to the Problem:

"All of our Socioeconomical Problems are Caused by 536 Elite, Privileged, Professional, Permanent, Political RULING Class Members in Washington DC, that have TOO Much Control and Power, in which Corruption is the Currency that is RUNNING and RUINING our Countryâ¦.
Contact YOUR Local Media outlets, Government Representatives, Federal, State and LOCAL and DEMAND these 5 SIMPLE STEPS to Fix the TRUE CAUSE to all of our problems:

1) Require States to Pay the Salary, Retirement, Travel and Living Expenses, and Staffing Needs of their own US Senators and Representatives in the House. (They could not set their own pay and benefits that way and be Beholden to those that Elected them, not Washington, DC Special Interests)

2) Legislators can NEVER vote to "Exempt" themselves from any Law they Pass. For Example, healthcare and Insider Trading (both of which they exempted members of Congress from having to comply)

3) Same Term Limits as the President. If you sit out a Term and Run again and your Constituency wants you back you can do 2 more Terms, then sit again. It will Stop Politicians from Making it a Career Choice, rather than Public Service.

4) Turn over Control and Funding of the Dept. of Ed, EPA, Dept of Commerce, Health and Social Services, Land Management, Parks, etc, Back to the States to Operate as they deem appropriate for their Respective States. IF Congress did not have CONTROL of Purse Strings, they would not be such a BIG, Corrupt Target for Lobbyists and Contributors.

5) Lastly, Citizens and Corporations can ONLY donate to the Campaign of Individuals that Represent the District in which you LIVE and/or Work. Why should Liberal Unions in New York be Giving Millions of Dollars to a Democratic Senator for Alaska? ONLY one Reason and it's NOT Honorable.

These simple fixes would change our whole way of "Operating." It would inspire Leadership Rather than Control. It would save $100's of Billions of $$$ in pet projects and Destroyed Wealth during elections. And eliminate the "necessity" to bribe Congress with Lobbyists to get anything done. Gridlock would not be an issue, because they would not be thinking about their own personal future, rather, doing what is required to help the most Americans."

What is the best way to approach local businesses about my beauty product brochure?

I just started to sell beauty products (cosmetics and skincare) and want to leave my brochure at local businesses showcasing various products. How should I approach them and what should I say?

Answer
Think about what's in it for them? If they can make a profit that will be great. If you are just leaving brochures most small businesses are o.k. with that- it just depends. Here are some tips.

1. When you call on them, make sure you are dressed as a professional.

2. Get the name of the owner or the decision maker.

3. Ask for the decision maker and set an appointment (they
might want to meet with you on the spot).

4. Make sure your brochures are crisp- no bends.

5. Introduce yourself, thank them for meeting with you, ask If you can get 15 minutes of their time. Talk about your brochures and products and what you want them to do with them.

Make sure you know your products, and be prepared to answer questions.

If there is a profit for them let them know. i.e. Mr. Business man, thank you for meeting with me, I would like to show you how you can increase your profits by.... If you need more time during the meeting ask him/her is it o.k.

Think like a giant!
Be bold as a Lyon!

How to improve men's eyes and skin?

hither09

Been told my eyes are my best feature and want to make the best use of them:)

What's the best way to make my eyes and skin look good. Any products or skincare routines/tips?

Answer
I've written up a blog entry on skincare routines for girls, but it's probably too long if you're a guy so I've taken out bits that may apply to you. ;P

2- Cleanse. This is an important step and should be done daily. You don't want a day's worth of oil and dirt still caked on your skin while you sleep. It's easiest to do this in the shower so you can wash it straight off. It's best to use your cleanser twice - the first time removes all the surface makeup, oils, dirt etc, and the second time does the actual cleansing. Biore Ice Cleanser is my favourite because it really feels icy and cool on your skin, very refreshing after a long day. :) It also "deep cleans pores, clears acne and helps prevent future breakouts". However right now I'm using St Ives Apricot Cleanser and it's just as good, minus the icy feeling.

3- Exfoliate. Do this only 2-3 times a week; using it more often can be too harsh your skin. This is similar to a cleanser but contains abrasive sandy bits that unclog pores. The best I've used is St Ives Apricot Scrub. An alternative is Biore Pore Unclogging Scrub. My boyfriend uses the same Nivea for Men for both cleansing and exfoliating I think (lazy!).

4- Toner. After getting out of the shower, your pores should be enlarged because of the heat. You need to tighten your pores again to prevent fresh dirt from entering and forming more blackheads. Toner tightens pores, restores your skin's natural pH and prepares your skin to accept moisture. Apply toner over your face and neck with a cotton pad. Alternatively cold water can help tighten pores, so you can use a cold wet towel instead. I'm not sure on the 'best' toner but I've used Johnson's and Biore.

5- Moisturise. After your toner dries, apply moisturiser! I've been told always to use a face moisturiser instead of a regular body lotion especially near your eyes, because these tiny white lumps can form. I don't actually know why this happens or if it's true, but RIGHT after my mum told me I used Sorbolene on my eye area anyway and the next day I got a white dot beneath my eye, so now I'm a believer. :/ Moisturisers come in either creams or gels. There's no 'best' moisturiser I've found as they all pretty much work the same, so go with your favourite brand/scent.

6- Remove blackheads. Using.. pore strips! Actually I have mixed feelings about these strips but I'll leave it up to you to decide whether or not to use them. I'd buy the Biore Ultra Deep Cleansing Pore Strips ($6-7 AUD for 6) over the regular ones.
My conclusion after using them: Yes they're a relatively pain-free, easy way to get rid of surface blackheads and make your nose really smooth. However this only lasts so long and really, it's not worth the money. I think from this experience, I'd still rather stick with my (painful) blackhead removal stick and put up with a red, bruised nose.

- - -

As for your eyes, I don't think you'd need to do anything to them. :) If you're 25+ and are starting to worry about 'looking old' then you might want to start using an eye cream at night.

That's just what I wanna ask, please share with me, what your idea(s) is, thanks..

Answer
Lead by example. I have influenced many friends and family to begin to make changes that are better for the earth. We have a great opportunity with the economy taking a downturn. Since the 1st of the 3 R's is reduce, that is the easiest and saves people money. I begin by listening and try to find little changes people can make that will benefit them directly. If they have health concerns I talk about natural or non toxic cleaning products and beauty products. If they have children I share the information on the hazards of the flame retardants on clothing and bedding and how they can save money and provide better nutrition with a waste free lunch. If they have had their income drop I talk about energy conservation, reducing food waste, eating a local diet and reducing meat consumption, all are good for the earth and save money. If they are buying a new car and think that a hybrid costs more than a conventional, I talk about ways mine has saved me money, changing the oil every 7500 miles vs 3000, in CA no smog check required, some banks give lower rates for fuel efficient cars, saving money on gas, fewer maintenance costs, cheaper tires, the fact that I still love my car after 6 years and it has maintained much of it's resale value. There are a million things you can share with someone, but if you aren't a livining example of how to go green and maintain a quality lifestyle you should focus on yourself first. Get to know your audiance, and don't force feed them or tell them they are bad or wrong. I also never talk about climate change, I believe pollution and limited resources are a much greater threat.

Can you use average body soap instead of shampoo?

Bo

So I accidentally bought hydrating conditioner instead of shampoo, and I've been told that conditioner is not an adequate substitute. So what if I just use normal body soap, and then put in conditioner after?
I have a small afro if it matters what type of hair.

Answer
Yes you can use body soap instead of shampoo, in fact many people do. But here is some information first so you have a nice outcome.

Soap vs detergents. I am not the vocabulary police here, but we really throw the word soap around. Chemically there is a difference what it is, and how it works. It does NOT matter if it is in a bottle or a bar, or what it was made to do, or the name of the product or what we casually call it. Soaps are natural chemical reaction between a fat and an alkali where detergents are synthetic alternatives to soap. The most significant difference is how they affect the pH of your hair. Shampoo is most always a detergent and so are most household cleaning products. True soap is still out there, but more and more body "soaps" are actually detergents too.

So, first determine what your product really is.

If you are dealing with a detergent, it will be labelled as a non-soap cleanser, a cosmetic bar, beauty bar, deodorant bar. Etc. Zest is a detergent, so is Dove just for two examples, as well as most liquid body washes and shower gels...and even (!!!) a mild dishwashing liquid. If you are talking about using this on your hair, it is remarkably similar to your shampoo. Lather up, rinse, repeat and follow with conditioner just like you always do.

Ivory, Dial, and Safeguard are some examples of true soap. Well made true soaps can be used for all kind of things and they are an eco-friendly and less toxic way to clean up. You can cleanse your hair with these but they will not work in the same way chemically as a detergent. You won't get as much suds. Your hair will feel sticky but it is in fact clean. You should not use conditioner on soaped hair at all, it just is gross. Use a diluted vinegar rinse instead, which will balance the pH from the soap. It won't have that slick shiny feeling like conditioner but it is truly what your hair needs after soap. You won't enjoy the feeling until after it's dry, then it is super soft and wonderful!

As for your hair type, I have heard that lots of people of African descent, who wear their hair natural, do use soap instead of shampoo. I myself am white so I can't speak about it from my own experience. If you have processed hair you might want to skip it and wait until you have more information from your stylist. Also if you are going to use true soap on your hair, I would think you should choose better than ordinary drugstore or dollar store soap. Choose a "gourmet" one like Dr. Bronners or Dr. Woods that you get at the health food store. A nice olive oil soap.

Also...length of hair...well, that goes both ways. If you have short hair, it gets cut off lots sooner so if you damage your hair, not just how you wash it...it doesn't stay on your head that long. On the other hand, if you damage short hair, and have to cut it off...well you might not have much hair left.

Lots of info here. You have to decide for yourself. Starts with identifying the product.

I wanted to dye my hair a very bold red and I'm naturally brunette. I have tried dying it at home but it's never the color I want. I decided I'd have to go to a salon to get the look I wanted. I made an appointment with a random stylist, and when I got there it was a girl that I had gone to school with. She charged me $140 (without the tip), but I did end up getting the bold firey red I wanted. That lasted about a day. I did exactly as she said, waited 2 days before washing, washed it in cold water, and even bought an expensive shampoo to make the color last. Every time I take a shower, TONS of red dye comes out. It's been a week and a day since I got it colored, and I'm almost back to brunette. What should I say to the salon without coming off as a rude customer? It's hard because I know the girl that did it, so I'm sure she remembers me. Also, what should I ask that they do? I feel like $140 is WAYYY too much money to spend on something that hardly lasted a week, but I know redying it would damage my hair a lot. Any suggestions????

Answer
Before I respond, I'd like you to read the following:
Personality & health risks.
There is a strong belief among some people that a personâs hair color can tell you some about their personality.  A new study out of Harvard suggests hair color can also tell you about a personâs health risks
Top doctors say you can tell a lot about a personâs health from their hair color:
-Blondes have a higher risk of melanoma, especially on their scalps, and should always wear a hat in direct sunlight.
-Brunettes are more likely to suffer from hair loss, and can help prevent it by getting enough iron (dark leafy vegetables are high in iron).
-And a Harvard study finds redheads may have a 90% greater chance of developing Parkinsonâs Disease because of a specific gene mutation. Housecall for Health, Iâm Colleen Cappon, FOX News Radio. 12-10-12

MY ANSWER: This is 2013, $140 to get the job done, in Hollywood, they'd pay more than that. Example: "23 years old Rihanna is well known for changing her hairstyle and hair colour on a regular basis and it looks as though all those treatments have finally begun to take their toll on her mane and perhaps her common sense." US Showbiz 2-18-12 Rihanna has reportedly paid $23,500 for an emergency haircut after hers was ruined in a sauna, to fly out hair stylist from L.A. to London..The Province 3-1-12. How long do you think that lasted? Her hair is very short now, just to get her healthy hair back.

Style meets chemistry meets biology: We're talking hair coloring.

Playing with chemicals is not like playing with clothes, or doing a manicure, there are penalties for playing chemicals in the lab. Even hair color experts at the salon are not rocket scientists, they do a bang up dye jobs to their clients or their own hair.
Chemicals can enter the body through the skin.

Google: Teen 'feared she would die' after reaction to hair dye
The allergic reaction was caused by a well-known brand of semi-permanent hair dye Chloe used to turn her hair black for a Halloweâen party. . . . . called for beauty bosses to ban hair dye chemical PPD (para-phenylenediamine) from the shelves. 11-04-11

The chemical is not new and is present in a number of brands of dark hair colours, acting to help adhere the dye to the hair so that it doesn't wash out. Itâs made from coal tar and is used in both permanent and semi-permanent hair colours. Itâs well-known to be a cause of serious allergic reactions -- including something called contact dermatitis which can lead to rashes, blisters, and open sores.
PPD is sometimes added to black henna tattoos and that using them is not safe. Allergic reactions usually begin within two to 10 days following application. One bad reaction can lead to sensitivities to other products such as hair dye, sunblock and some types of clothing dyes. Oftentimes, it's using the product a second or third time.

Google: A 38-year old mother left in a coma after using hair dye. SHE DYED HER HAIR MANY TIMES BEFORE, USING THE SAME BRAND. The British woman who went into coma after a reaction to hair dye has died after a year. Updated 11-25-12. The woman suffered a heart failure, struggled for breath and became unconsciousness. Her family blamed paraphenylenediamine, a chemical found in hair colour. Her family has now called for paraphenylenediamine to be banned from home dye kits. In 2000, a 38-year-old Indian-origin woman from Birmingham, Narinder Devi, died after an allergic reaction to hair dye.

Permanent black hair dye is linked to causing leukemia and lymphomas.

When it comes to hair care treatments, product use or visits to a salon or spa, the consumer must take responsibility to do their homework and be aware of all the risks involved.

MY ADVICE: I'd forget about it, let your hair go OMBRE, and go & write a NEGATIVE REVIEW on them, on YELP and make this a lesson learned. I've gone to very little salon visits in my life, because I can dye, perm, style, my own hair better than salons do. My hair is healthier than theirs, they even compliments me when I go there for a 4" trim, saying: "hair that long is never healthy but yours is!", actually, the last time I wanted to get trimmed, I was there almost 2 hours and they still didn't do the job right, but I now have a son who can trim mine in less than 5 mins. PERFECTLY! My mom used to do that, but she went to heave. The hair industry is a trillion dollar business, BECAUSE THEY CAN. They also do not give money back guarantee for damaged hair or hair loss caused by HEAT & CHEMICALS = hair's worst enemies. Back in my younger years, they would have charged less than $40 for a correction you just got, that lasted about 10 months or 28 washings. Today? It's a ripped off, and I respond more with hair loss than 30-40 years ago, mostly from teens.

Where in Central Iowa can I get my hair dyed?

Dani

I want to get my hair professionally done. Right now it is about three different colors. Here's the story: I dyed my hair black for a school dance, then I dyed it "blonde" (ended up brown). Then I told a lady at Sally's that I wanted my hair to be a light brown/ dark blonde and she told me to make my hair a dark blonde that I would need to bleach it. So, I tried bleaching it. And it's about three colors right now. A dark brown, my roots are my natural color (a grey/brown/black), and then I have some random blonde streaks. (I'm 16, and my parents are okay with me coloring my hair)
I want my hair to be a dirty blonde-ish color. And I want Mahogany, dark red, auburn low-lights.
I want to go to a salon around Ames, Iowa. I don't want to have to travel too far to get my hair done. I also don't have tons of money, so I would prefer if it would be under $100. Any good suggestions?

On a totally different hand, I am also looking for somewhere I can go to spray tan. I used to tan really well in the summer, but I don't get as tan anymore. I don't want it to look fake, I want it to look natural, and real. It would also only be a back-up plan for if I don't get as tan as I want to.

Thank you so much!

Go to YELP or Craigslist and read reviews or post on their message boards there from your city.

We live in OREGON.

Right now, you've got more hair dye on your head @ 16, than I have in a year! Clerks @ beauty and hair salons are just that, they're not biology or science major, to understand how chemicals reacts in your system.

Hair dyes, which include home hair colouring kits and those used at pricey salons, are linked to deadly cancer-causing chemicals, warn scientists. In 2009 the Mail revealed that women who used hair dyes more than nine times a year had a 60% greater risk of contracting blood cancer.
A year later the European Commission banned 22 hair dyes which put long-term users at risk of bladder cancer. < < < <â¨

I need some help for a skin care presentation. I really want to give my audience valuable information. Please help by telling me what your biggest question concerning skin care is?

Answer
Skin care presentations! My favorite! I think that the most common concerns include ingredients (are they natural, botanical, harmful, etc.) and benefits (what types of benefits will they see from using the products). You might also want to include proper skin care regimens such as wash, toner, serum, moisturizer, eye cream along with the proper ways to use them. For example, when applying skin care products to your face, you want to go in the way of your facial muscles (up and out on your cheeks, across on your forehead, and up and down in your nose, upper lip, and chin so as to not pull and tug at the sensitive skin on your face). Also, when applying eye creme, it's important to use the ring fingers because they apply the least amount of pressure. I always suggest to start from the outer corner of the eye and dab inwards. You might also want to include information on exfoliating. For example, how many times a week should someone exfoliate their skin? 2-3 times max! Anything more might cause irritation and dryness. What types of products are most beneficial for people with skin conditions, acne, t-zone, dry, oily? There are different skin care regimens for different skin types. Did you know that it's best to use a white washcloth when you wash your face? Why? Because there are no dyes in them! Dyes can cause irritation. These types of things are important for people to know and are actually very beneficial when giving a presentation. If you would like to learn more or had any questions, I'm happy to help. Good luck.

How can I launch a homemade skin care line?

HelpPlease

I have an idea for a skin care line, and I've heard of others doing very well after starting small. So, what steps do I take to actually do this?

Where are the recipes?
Also, what if I want to use specific active ingredients (e.g., alpha hydroxy or salicylic acid)? How do I get those? What government oversight will I be subject to? FDA? FTC?

Should I consult with a dermatologist and/or aesthetician first? If so, how do I find a good one, and what questions do I need to ask them?

Any tips for getting it into stores?
What else do I need to know?

I know I ask a lot, but I'm excited about my idea. I just don't have the know-how to make it happen. I appreciate any and all constructive advice.

Answer
Everyone is an Inventory Associate at Wal-mart or a Super Walmart.

There is a specific team of associates that deals with inventory. This was called the ICS Team when I worked there, might be something different now. There are also office staff that deal with inventory. The pay depends on where the Walmart is located but usually starting pay is about $10.50. The office staff get paid a little bit more.

What they do is go from department to department with a picklist of merchandise to pull to the floor. They go into the bins of these departments and pull whatever merchandise on that list they can find. They always start with the consumable departments (high sales) first. These are Foods, Pets, Paper Goods and Chemicals, Health and Beauty Aids... or was that Home and Bath, not sure anymore (HBA), and sometimes infants (diapers).

The office staff total up the sales and shrinkage (loss) totals and figure out how much profit the store has made and what the percentage of shrinkage is.

How hard is it to find a Career in Aesthetics in Columbus, Ohio?

Starr

I am currently a LMT and in school for nursing. I will begin classes in March for Aesthetics. Eventually I would like to work in the medical end of skin care or a spa that offers laser treatments, chemical peels and so on. For now though I would like to know what I am up against as far as job placement in just Aesthetics and how competetive my long term goal is.

Answer
I have been in the professional spa products business for over 10 years. During that time, I've seen a lot of spas open and close and a lot of estheticians move from spa to spa.

It's a hard living and not very stable. Get in with a good spa such as Mario's International in OH. Learn a lot and don't fall into the temptation to start your own spa - they have a high failure rate.

Oh, and take a business class at the local adult school.

Good luck.

Definitely check out Aveda's products. They have something for every hair type. I have long thick hair as well, and I use the Shampure shampoo, which is great for all hair types, and Smooth Infusion conditioner because my hair is kind of dry. I was wondering the average cost of Cosmetology school, for hair and maybe nails. Not the skin care, and esthetician portion, just for hair and nails. I have called a couple of the schools in my local area Neither will give me even a ballpark, so I have no idea if it would be even an option. I live in Philadelphia, and i'm about to be a senior so I have a whole year left to get myself together. Please Help

Answer
My Social Beauty (www.mysocialbeauty.com) has a page on their site on the cost of cosmetology schools with real answers from students via twitter.

http://www.mysocialbeauty.com/cosmetology-questions/how-much-do-top-cosmetology-schools-cost

MySocialBeauty is the beauty social networking site for the cosmetology industry. They have a cosmetology school database where you can search for schools in any state. You can actually request FREE information from any of the schools that look interesting, so thatâs pretty awesome. Here is a link to the school page:
http://www.mysocialbeauty.com/find-a-cosmetology-school

On the site, you can also connect with other beauty students, teachers and professionals and it has tons of great articles and beauty advice by Kimberley Bosso and other beauty celebrities and beauty experts in the industry. Itâs pretty cool. There is a lot of helpful information too. They have a career guide and a scholarship section. I use those often. Here are the links to that:

It's a great resource if you are going to go into a cosmetology career. Good luck!
