In your experience, what is the best skin care products you've used?

Labels:

Ariel L

Whether it's cleared your blackheads or other acne blemishes, moisturized your skin, or just made you feel great. What brand was your favorite?

Answer
The less products you use, the better for your skin. Treat your face like your skin. Use Bath wash like Suave Bath & Body Gel, use a washcloth. Treat your face like the rest of your body, take a shower everyday or wash your face everyday. I use very little Oil of Olay to moisturize. I use powder for ever thing on my face.

The secret is keeping your face clean and oil-free.

Acne medication could worsen what ever allergies you have, so instead of trying out one product after another, you're actually spreading it around. Example: ProActiv contains a known carcinogen, at a percentage known to promote skin cancer.

The FDA has called for more safety studies on benzoyl peroxide because of concern about what happens when skin treated with it is exposed to the sun. Until research can establish or disprove a possible skin cancer link to the use of benzoyl peroxide products, the agency plans to require an extra warning and directions on the labeling: "When using this product, avoid unnecessary sun exposure and use sunscreen." and "If going outside, use a sunscreen. Allow [product name] to dry, then follow directions in the sunscreen labeling. If irritation or sensitivity develops, discontinue use of both products and consult a doctor."

If you got burned before the age of 18, it's hard telling if they're freckles and being out in the sun could make them darker & bumpier as you continue to age.

Listen . . . .I've been protecting myself from the sun since I was 9.

1. Because I don't want to look like a farmer.
2. Because I get too hot.
3. I want to look like movie stars & models, they have blemish-free skins.
4. I don't want to look like an old prune or get moles on my neck & face like my aunts.

No matter, I still got Discoid Lupus (Google it), caused from the sun. It took 12 years for them to fade. Tried all kinds of lotions that were prescribed to me, and none of them worked. More & more now I protect myself and I take my wide brim hat everywhere I go, or use an umbrella. In Asia, they use umbrella all the time. Here in the States, people started to catch on, and I see people walking w/umbrella, they are used on the beach, and they sell patio umbrellas. It was invented for a reason and also to protect us from getting skin cancer.

The sun is more powerful than most people think!

Are these good skin care products?

sp

I'm 13... and I finally convinced my mom I'm the right age to start wearing some skin care stuff... I have oily/combo skin... well really... It depends, always, my skin is normal at the beginning of the day... in the summer, sweat and oils build up and makes my skin all greasy... But in the winter, my skin is pretty dry... So, I don't want to get anything that's leaning to far towards either skin condition, you know, since it differs. My skin is also pretty sensitive, and it can easily break out or get all rashy if I use a certain product. Anyways, just wondering if you guys have used these and what you thought!

Morning:
-Fruits and Passion Radiance Vitaminized Cleansing Mousse http://ca.fruits-passion.com/en/prod/fiche.asp?IDprod=489&IDcat=7&pageactive=1&enr=1&IDsous=
-The Body Shop Calming Aloe Toner http://www.thebodyshop.ca/bnewsoottonm.html
-The Body Shop Vitamin E Facial Day Lotion with SPF 15 http://www.thebodyshop.ca/vitebrfacday.html

During the day (mostly for the summer only):
-The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil Facial Blotting Tissues http://www.thebodyshop.ca/newteatreoil1.html
-Evian Facial Spray http://www.evian.com/#/en_CA/56-Facial-Spray

Night:
Same cleanser as morning

everyone always suggests clean and clear but they test on animals and I don't buy those brands...

Answer
You're 13 and you're using ALL THOSE PRODUCTS?

I'm 60 and I only use Bath & Body Wash for my body as well as my face.

The less products you use, the better for your skin. Use a bath wash like Suave Bath & Body Gel, use a washcloth. Treat your face like the rest of your body, take a shower everyday or wash your face everyday.

The secret is keeping your face clean and oil-free. I also don't use liquid on my face for anything, and very little moisturizer, not even a dime size. Since my face is not dry. Good skin also comes from your good genes. Increase your fresh fruits & vegetables 3-5 servings per day. And programmed your mind to do this day after day, for the rest of your life.

Acne medication could worsen what ever allergies you have, so instead of trying out one product after another, you're actually spreading it around. Example: ProActiv contains a known carcinogen, at a percentage known to promote skin cancer.

Smoking has been shown to make acne worse since it diminishes the delivery of oxygen to the skin and robs it of nutrients, thereby inhibiting cars from healing. Not enough reason to quit? Smoke depletes moisture, making skin lose its luster and look wrinkly.

The beauty industry is a billion dollar business, they know acne is everyone's problem, but instead of saying soap is drying for you, they have to invent an acne product that can worsen the skin as MANY TEENAGERS have experienced during hormonal change, but as you get older those are completely a waste of time & money! You've just been their #1 customer!

Health and Beauty?

Q. Ok i want to be healthy what can I do for that i already eat healthy but i want to loose weight . And for the beauty thing i dont think im pretty and no one says anything to me except sometimes the things i wear.Like when you get older in teen years you get acne and ive tried everything even proactive so what can i do about that too.

Answer
hi again,

Weight- Thats great to hear that you are eating healthy. The only way I want you to loes weight is to exersize. PLEASE dont go on a starvation diet or beceme beliemic ( throw up after meals on purpose ) im only 13 and i really dont like it when people do that. Honestly, if your over weight, exersize and try to stay away from those eating disorders because i heard that if you go on a starvation diet, you gain MORE weight! and my dads a doctor! so ive had many talks about that stuff because im a little overweight too(only like 10 or 20 LBS). but if your honestly not fat, dont even try to lose weight. Exersize, but not too much. Thats only if you are honestly not fat.

Beauty- Now, what i want you to do is honestly look in the mirror and say I'm beautiful because I'm me. Say it again and REALLY mean it. If your not feeling it, maybe try some makeup. But, as Rebecca Donaldson on Full House once said ( a show lol i love it ), the secret to make up is to make it look like your not wearing any at all. So, put some on but make sure you dont look like a raccoon lol.

Acne- ProActive is sapossed to work I guess. Try asking your doctor. Once again, my dads a doctor and he told he perscribed me a little bottle of wet pads for your face. It has this alchahol that gets rid of acne in it and you just dab it on the area where you want the acne gone and it works. You just have to put it on yourself in the morning and at night. Finish the little bottle and your ance problem is gone!

Good Luck!

What is the best skin care routine?

Labels:

cassidyamm

I have a fairly clear complexion, with the odd pimple every now and then. But around my nose, its slightly red and kind of oily. I wash my face two times a day with a basic cleanser, but I was wondering which product would be better for me. I have rather sensitive skin too, and I wear make-up everyday. (I wash it off at night, of course.) Whats the best product?

Answer
The Basic 3-Step Skincare Regimen

Step 1: Cleansing Simple is key here. You need to find a good cleanser that your skin responds well to, and stick with it.

Avoid bar soaps as they tend to dry out the skin. According to Rona Berg, in her book, 'Beauty,' a French cosmetics executive once told her 'soap should only ever touch your skin from the neck down.' We agree. According to Berg, most cleansers contain oil, water and 'surfactants'. The oil dissolves oil on your face, surfactants dissolve dirt and makeup and the water washes it all away. Who knew? The secret is finding the right mix of oil. (Makes sense to us). Too much on your skin will clog pores, while too little will dry it out. This is why you need to know your skin type.

Be careful not to cleanse too often. Washing at night should do you. While some skincare experts swear you should cleanse skin with creamy cleansers that you wipe off with a tissue, never letting water touch your skin (some hard waters are especially hard on skin), we prefer the water method. In the morning, a splash of lukewarm water is all you need (we find it's great for removing excess oils from your nightly moisturizing). Never wash your face with hot or cold water (both can cause broken capillaries). Also be careful about overcleansing skin.

Here's the best way to wash your face: Use warm water to loosen dirt and clogged pores. Use a dime-sized bit of cleanser, then rinse with cool or lukewarm water. You'll also want to take off your makeup with a proper makeup remover.

Step 2: Exfoliate Exfoliation is the step most people skip in their weekly skincare routine. But trust me, if you start properly exfoliating your skin, you will notice an almost immediate difference. According to Berg, one of the reasons men's skin looks more youthful than women's is because men tend to exfoliate daily when they shave. There are several ways to exfoliate skin: Microdermabrasion, chemical peels and retinoids.

Scrubs work by removing the top layer of dead skin cells that tend to dull your complexion. We find exfoliating skin once a week with a microdermabrasion kit keeps skin glowing year-round. Make sure you use a gentle scrub with tiny grains. Big grains in cheap scrubs can tear skin and cause more harm than good. My favorite microdermabrasion kit is made by Lancome.

In the hour it takes to get a chemical peel, you can take off five years from your face. Can't afford the pricetag for a monthly peel? Try some over-the-counter peels that work over the course of a month. I prefer MD Skincare's.

Retinoids (such as Retin-A) also work by removing the top layer of dead skin cells while also generating collagen in the skin. "Collagen is the skin's structural fiber," dermatologist Dennis Gross said in the October 2005 issue of O Magazine. "As we get older, it breaks down, creating lines and large pores." Skincare experts disagree on all sorts of things, but most of them consider retinoids to be a miracle skin saver.

Should you use a toner? Some people swear by toners, but many beauty experts do not (I once read a skincare expert claim, 'toners are only for copy machines'). Toners are meant to remove all remaining traces of oil, makeup and dirt, but a good cleanser should do this. I firmly believe it's up to you. If you like the way your skin feels with a toner. Buy it. Use it. Enjoy it.

Step 3: Moisturize While I know of at least one famous beauty editor who swore skin doesn't need moisturizer, basically everyone else I've read disagrees and is an adamant believer in it. A basic law of beauty is that everyone, no matter her skin type, should moisturize. Even if your skin is oily, it will benefit from moisturizers. (The only exception is those with acne). Why? Moisturizers seal moisture into skin (Berg calls this the 'Saran Wrap effect'). So how much should you moisturize? Your skin will tell you. When your skin is tight, it's crying out for moisture. Be careful not to overmoisturize -- this can cause clogged pores. For the skinny on great moisturizers for your skin type, check out this

Skin care routine so I can become a cute girly girl who actually cares about her appearance?

This Is Su

I'm not comfortable in my own skin at the moment, but in the summer I want to start being cute and girly by wearing dresses etc. I just want to feel confident and like I look after my body and appearance but right now I just don't have a clue!

Answer
e careful not to cleanse too often, you risk over-cleansing skin, see signs you are over cleansing your skin. You really only need to wash your face at night to remove makeup and sunscreen, which can clog pores. If you have dry skin, consider cold cream like Pond's, which the French use or make your own organic cold cream using this simple cold cream recipe. Simply apply cream, then wipe off, no water needed (if you have hard water, it can be especially harsh on skin). Most women prefer the water method: Use warm water to loosen dirt and clogged pores. Use a dime-sized bit of cleanser, then rinse with cool or lukewarm water. I personally swear by my Clarisonic Mia, as does pretty much everyone I know who has one.

Make sure to remove eye makeup with a proper makeup remover. The area around the eye is delicate so don't pull or rub too hard. You can also use olive oil as a natural eye makeup remover. Find out more in Use Olive Oil as an Eye Makeup Remover.

In the morning, a splash of lukewarm water is all you need (I find it's great for removing excess oils from your nightly moisturizing). Never wash your face with hot or cold water (both can cause broken capillaries).

A facial scrub. You can buy a great scrub or make your own. I prefer sugar scrubs to salt ones, but it's just a matter of preference. See my list of the best facial scrubs or try out a recipe using brown sugar and coconut oil in Make a Face & Body Scrub With Sugar and Oil.
A washcloth. Put a dab of cleanser and a sprinkle of white refined sugar on a damp washcloth and massage skin in a circular motion. After a quick rinse, any sign of dead skin is erased. If you have dry skin, try extra virgin coconut oil.
Microdermabrasion. You can buy microdermabrasion kits. I have and found quite a few I like. See my list of the best facial scrubs and microdermabrasion kits.
Chemical peels. In the hour it takes to get a chemical peel, you can take a year from your face. Can't afford the price tag for a monthly peel? Try some over-the-counter peels that work over the course of a month. I prefer MD Skincare's.
Retinoids. Retinoids (such as Retin-A or the more moisturizing Renova) also work by removing the top layer of dead skin cells while also generating collagen in the skin. "Collagen is the skin's structural fiber," dermatologist Dennis Gross said in O Magazine. "As we get older, it breaks down, creating lines and large pores." Skincare experts disagree on all sorts of things, but most of them consider retinoids to be a miracle skin saver. I'm addicted to Retin-A, which I pick up in Mexico on my yearly jaunts.
Should you use a toner? Some people swear by toners, but many beauty experts do not (I once read a skincare expert claim, "toners are only for copy machines"). Toners are meant to remove all remaining traces of oil, makeup and dirt, but a good cleanser should do this. I firmly believe it's up to you. If you like the way your skin feels with a toner. Buy it. Use it. Enjoy it.
Step 3: Moisturize

While I know of at least one famous beauty editor who swore skin doesn't need moisturizer, basically everyone else I've read disagrees and is an adamant believer in it. A basic rule of beauty is that if you have dry skin, you should invest in a basic moisturizer. So how much should you moisturize? Your skin will tell you. When your skin is tight, it's crying out for moisture. Be careful not to over-moisturize -- this can clog pores.
See my list of the best moisturizers on the market. For you natural girls, nothing beats a good oil for your skin. You can use extra virgin coconut oil, olive oil, sweet almond oil or jojoba oil. Learn more in Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil as Overall Body Moisturizer.

Are eye creams necessary? Well maybe. Some beauty experts strongly recommend eye creams. Why? The skin around the eye contains no fatty tissue and is therefore very thin and susceptible to wrinkles. Special eye creams are formulated to "thicken" this area. Yet other experts (including the beauty editors of Allure in their new book) claim your daily lotion works around the eyes just as well.

See my list of the best eye creams.

Step 4: Apply Sunscreen

The #1 cause of wrinkles is sun damage, so it's important to use a sunscreen of at least 30 SPF from your early years on even in winter and on cloudy days. A great trick is to purchase two moisturizers: One for night and one for day that includes UV protection. Don't use moisturizers with sunscreen at night, the ingredients are not meant to be used 27/7 and can aggravate skin. When choosing a sunscreen, make sure it contains Mexoryl (found in my favorite sunscreen La-Roche Posay) or Helioplex, found in Neutrogena products.

good luck and apply make up to;)

Answer
The skin care you use will depend on your age and your skin type. I recommend you read a book by dermatologist Leslie Baumann called Skin Type Solutions. You can buy it online or at any book store or get it at your local library. She also has a website but you won't get the information you need unless you read the book. I've read over 50 books on skincare and her book gives the most practical advice. She tells you what really works. She recommends drugstore products and higher end products that really do work depending on what you can afford. I wish I would have found her book years ago. I wouldn't have wasted so much money on skincare that doesn't work. There is so much hype and exaggerated claims in the skincare industry. Most before and after pictures are fake. It's a billion dollar industry. They'll tell you anything to get you to buy their product. Theres no federal regulation on cosmeceuticals like there is for food or medications.

I'm 42 and I had alot of sun damage from tanning beds and from smoking for many years. My skin looks beautiful now. I've spent thousands of dollars and many hours researching what really works. My pores are smaller my skin texture is refined, my skin discoloration is gone and my fine lines and wrinkles are much improved.( most are gone). I look 10 to 15 years younger than I really am.
This is what really works for me:

Morning routine:

Cleanse with Philosophy's Purity Made Simple Cleanser, DHC Cleansing Oil or any Olay or Neutrogena cleanser.
It's not as important to spend as much money on cleansers because they are on your skin for such a short period of time. Just buy one for your skin type that doesn't make your skin feel tight and dry after cleansing. You don't want to strip your skin and mess with the PH.

Skinceuticals CE Ferulic Serum. Antioxidant
This is the most expensive product in my regimen.
There are other less expensive products similar to this. Leslie Baumanns book will tell you whats comparable in a drug store version if you can't afford the Skinceuticals products.

Next I use a moisturizer. I use a few different ones. Right now I'm using Perricones Face Finishing Moisturizer or Atopalm or Dr Michelle Copelands AHA Face Cream. There ae many great drug store versions I use also like Olay Regenerist and Olay Definity if you suffer from skin discoloration. Neutrogena and Aveeno have good choices too. If I'm not using a moisturizer with sunscreen I will apply a seperate sunscreen during the day. Neutrogena has some good drugstore options. There are many others to choose from. Find one that works with your skin type. Sunscreen is very important if you want to keep the good results you get from your skincare routine. Otherwise every product your using is for nothing. The suns rays affect you whether your driving, sitting near a window or anything you do outside. Use a sunsceen!! That's something I didn't start to do until I was 38 years old. Thats why I had so much damage to my skin.

After my moisturizer I sometimes use a mattifier like OC8 or Super Matte Anti-Shine and I always use a makeup primer. My favorites are Bare Essentuals Prime Time, Smashbox Photo Finish Primer and also Smashbox's new Light version.

That's it in the morning, Cleanse, serum, moisturizer, mattifier,( if your t-zone is oily), and primer.( if you wear makeup)

Evening:

Cleanse with the same cleansers as above.

For discoloration I use Olay Definity lotion first. Then I wait 20 minutes before I apply my Retin-A. I get my Retin-A from a pharmacy in Mexico because I use it for anti-aging and not acne. If you don't have acne your insurance won't cover it and a tube runs about $100.00. You don't need a prescription when you buy Retin-A from Mexico. One tube costs between $12.00 up to $28.00 depending on the strength you use. I use the lowest strength right now which costs me $12.00 a tube. Not all skin can take a prescription product so you might start with a retinol product from the drugstore first and work your way up. Neutrogena and Roc make good drugstore retinol products. Other ones to consider are Philosophy Help Me, about $45.00 or Alpha Hydrox Retinol ResQ, about $13.99. When you start a retin-a or retinol product start slow to see what your skin can handle. I started using it every 3 nights and then every other night. Finally my skin was able to handle it every night without extreme dryness and peeling. Retin-A does work much faster and better than retinol but some people can't handle the effects of Retin-A. That's why it's so important to start out slow. I don't know if we're allowed to post website addresses here so If you want to buy Retin-A the same way I do and hundreds of other women do I'll tell you what to google and then you can find the website. Google: Medsmex.com. There's also a site through Canada but it costs more: 4cornerspharmacy.com. It's not illegal to buy Retin-A this way without a pescription. You are allowed to purchase only whats necessary for personal use. That's the law. It will pass customs. I know you can buy at least 6 tubes of Retin-A at a time if you want. I only order 2 at a time. It takes from about 1 to 2 weeks to get it.

Some women use a moisturizer after a Retin-A or retinol product and some don't. It depends on your skin and if you feel you need one. I use a moisturizer after my Retin-A. I wait another 20 minutes to apply my moisturizer after my Retin-A. The reason you wait 20 minutes is for the Retin-A to absorb. After you cleanse you should also wait 20 minutes before applying Retin-A. By waiting you prevent excess dryness and irritation from the Retinol product.

After I moisturize I sometimes apply an eye cream but only if I have one around. I don't go out of my way to buy them because I believe eye creams aren't necessary. It's just another product they try to sell you. I use my regular skin care under my eyes. If I'm having a problem under my eyes with extreme dryness I will use a seperate eye cream otherwise I skip it. The Skinceuticals, Olay Definity, and Retin-A have done wonders for my under eye area which used to be lined and crepey looking.
One very important thing about skincare is this: Give it time to work. You usually won't see fabulous results, especially with retin-A for about 3 months. It's well worth the wait!!

Sorry this is so long. I'm just so happy my skin looks so good and when you find the right products for your skin you will be too. Please read Dr. Leslie Baumanns book. It's a wealth of honest information and she will give you advice on many skin care products that really work. Like I said before I've wasted so much money believing everything these skincare companies claim their product will do for your skin. She will recommend products in all price ranges from drugstore to high end that really work!! Just because a product is high end doesn't necessarily make it better.

Good luck with your skin!!!

Getting microdermabrasion on Friday - Couple of Questions?? <10 pts!>?

Labels:

siddis

Okay I am getting my first microdermabrasion on Friday for some brown marks left over from acne and to basically just even my skin tone. I am 20 and male. I have no active acne that I can visibly see. I need to know do I need to have a clean shave before I go or can I shave the day before as I don't want to irritate my skin too much before? Also shall I stop Bensoyl Peroxide cream for how many days after treatment or can I use it say the next day (Saturday)?

I am also using a skin lightener on the areas (maybe what caused a bit of uneveness at the same time). Shall I continue after treatment too? Heres a pic of the problem:

I personally would lay off the lightening cream during the series just incase, and as far as the bensoyl --Try a test spot on your face onSaturday night or Sunday and if it doesnt burn or sting too bad probably ok to go ahead and use it but ask the person doing your micro, they may be a bit more conservative in fact I'm sure they will be I tend to treat my skin a lot more aggressively than I would treat a clients. I'm just telling you what Id do with my own skin on that. If you arent seeing breakouts and really dont need it then just as well not to use it during the series if you dont have to.

Don't forget to use sunblock for your face during this time. Important to use one made for the face that is as natural as possible and wont irritate. I myself have acne issues and find Yonka ultimate protection or creme 410 works best. Dont worry about the oils in it they are not acne causing types of oils. Some oils are actually good for your face. When the skin feels dyhydrated it tends to go into mass production of oil to try and compensate for being striped of oils and moisture thus throwing the oil glands into overdrive. Putting healthy oils and moisture on the skin helps to sedate the oil glands It sometimes takes a few weeks of consistant care though for the oil glands to get the message.

Also, finding out if there is an underlying cause of the acne may help prevent future breakouts. For some it is just age, hormones and genetics. For others it could be food sensitivities, teeth grinding/clenching (if acne is usually on cheek area where the teeth meet), digestive stress, sluggish lymph system, stress, liver overload, dead skin build-up and reluctant cell turnover, wrong skin care products including overly aggressive acne products. etc. Whatever the cause always remember to drink plenty of water. When it comes to the body, dilution is the solution for pollution. Whether the pollution is excess hormones in the system, foods that the cells dont like or whatever. Flush em out with lots of water.

Dont be afraid to use a nice moisturizer every day and night, when we are fighting acne we tend to be very harse to our skin and you need to replenish and sooth with calming moisturizers. Again I am a big fan of yonka and like their pamplemouse, pg creme, and even the creme 28. I own all of those and depending on how my skin is acting that day depends on which one I use. Skin is not the same week to week. At night I first apply Aveda liquid exfoliant. Then I have vitamin C powder. I mix that with a bit of coconut oil and sometimes even a drop of liquid Cal/mag all from the health food store, and apply it before bed. Those are all great antimicrobals and anti inflammatories. As well as collegen building and anti aging. If you try the vit C thing you may want to wait til after the micro series, it may or may not sting a bit.

Looking at your picture it seems you are a good micro canidate and should see really nice results that you should be happy with. Just make sure the place your getting it from has a good reputation. Dont be afraid to ask for references and education and experience as well as how old the machine is they are using and what brand of machine. The micro machines have come along way in the past few years so a very old machine may cause unnessesary irritation that a newer machine wouldnt.

How to remove pimple scars/redness?

coffeefan0

I've tried everything. Vitamin E oil, Bio-Oil, Benzyol Peroxide, Cocoa Butter, etc.

I doesn't seem to be doing anything except either making my face oily looking or dry and flaky.

Please help. I've done everything. It's been always 2 months and I am not seeing any results and the redness continues to bother me.

I have fairly light skin so the red scar is very noticeable.

Answer
if you have a couple extra bucks you may want to try Yon-ka. They are based on natural ingredients / essential oils. My fair skin is prone to redness and I don't know what I would do without Phyto 54. It's primary ingredient that fights redness is rosemary - so there may be alternatives but I don't know how well they work.

Drink lots of water to help with scaring and you could try neosporian or some Yonka spot treatments - but some of them run up to $100 each. If you go to an office that sells Yonka and do a skin consultation they may give you a free sample that will last a week or two that may give you some results.

Exfoliation and a good skin care regime could promote skin renewal and help the scar disappear better.

Good luck!

Lavender Tincture for Stress Reduction

Here is a sweet little tincture to use for stress reduction and to aid sleeping. Harvest time is almost here and lavender plants are just finishing their bloom. If you do not have a plant, visit your local nursery or a friend that is a grower.

You will need

» 5 medium stalks of fresh lavender
» ¾ cup of 90 proof vodka or other clear low-odor 90 proof drinking alcohol

Chop the lavender into ¼ inch strips and gently "bruise" the plant by "hammering" gently wit your fist on a wood cutting board (a mortar and pestle for you pro's). Put the alcohol in an amber or dark glass bottle, then stuff in the cut and bruised lavender. Place the cap on the bottle and shake vigorously for 2 minutes. Set in a cool, dark place for 6 weeks (shake for a minute or so 1 time a week). Strain the tincture from the plant pieces remaining, and then store in a cool dark place. Shelf life is approx. 1 year.

To use: Drop a few drops on your temples or dab on a hankie and place under your pillowcase between your pillow and your pillowcase for sweet dreams.

You can buy them at your local health store. Not a pharmacy. Or possibly at the mall. Your best bet would be a health store so you know that its pure essential not artificial.

:/

Answer
I recently went to a skin care person who told me most people just mess with their skin so much it can't stop breaking out. She said the less you mess with it the better your skin will be. She said it allows the skin to 'calm down' when you have a regular routine and don't keep bothering your skin.

I am a 50 year old woman with no wrinkles. I started taking care of my skin when I was 13 on the advise of a beauty consultant who came to our home-ec class to talk to us young girls (at the time) about beauty routines. I have passed this on to my daughter who is 14.5 and does not have acne problems. I am working with my niece who is 13 and does have acne problems. Her skin got better in about 5 days once we started this routine. She is exstatic!

Remember - this is all about routine - what you do everyday, and what your skin gets used to.

Use a mild soap with salasytic acid on your face and neck twice daily- morning and night. Neutragena has a great one that works like magic. It is a clear amber colored soap - I can't remember the name - sorry. It costs about $4 at Wal-Mart.

Two or three times a week use an exfoliant with salasytic acid in it (St Yives Medicated Apricot scrub is a good one) $4, also.

If your skin is oily, use a mild toner/astringent. Put it on a cotton ball and gently apply to face and neck. $5.

After that dries, dab on a light moisturizer made only for the face and put it on your neck area, too. Splurge here - you are worth it. Get a good moisturizer. I stick with Oil of Olay - about $15 or $20 - but it lasts a long time if you don't use too much.

Try to stay out of very harsh sun, or use a sunscreen.

Do not scrub your face hard or for long periods of time. Use warm not hot water. Keep your hands away from your face and no picking. Drink plenty of water. Try to stay away from fatty food, and food with lots of sugar in it. Colas are not good either. Get plenty of exercise outside in the fresh air. This stimulates circulation and will give you a healthy glow.

You should see your face calm down in just a few short days.

If over the counter remedies, and diet modification doesn't work, see a dermatologist. They are the best at helping people overcome problems like you describe.

I hope this helps you. I know it has helped my daughter and niece.

Classic beauty Vs. Plastic beauty?

Labels:

Dani

I couldnt help but notice that pin up girls and celebrities from the 40s-60s have a classic beauty that you dont really see anymore. They didn't feel the need to be 27 pounds to be beautiful. Celebrities now days weigh 3 pounds and are made up of 90% silicone and other man made materials. So my question is this. Who do you think is more beautiful. celebrities from the 40s-60s, or celebrities now days?
Maddie - I was not implying that all skinny people are fake. I'm saying that media puts on the pressure and makes everyone think that celebrities HAVE to be skinny and plastic to be beautiful. If that wasnt true it wouldnt make the cover of major magazines when a famous person goes out in public without their make up, or even worse, puts on a little weight.

Answer
The celebrities from the 40's-60's. The celebrities and models today are all pretty much nipped and tucked- so really they are not that beautiful....the work of their plastic surgeon is. The beautiful models and celebrities from the 40's-60's, were considered beautiful because it was their NATURAL beauty that made them so rare and admired....not the beauty they bought. The perception of beauty today is so skewed, we wonder why people today have such insecurities.

P.s.You know what I think is funny. A naturally beautiful woman could go to LA or Hollywood and be totally overlooked, because everyone else there has had surgery to aesthetically perfect their look.....Well had those women not had plastic surgery, they would be the ones over looked, while the naturally beautiful woman would be percieved as gorgeous.

It has totally flipped the tables, because the people who were born with unappealing features can change their looks, become more proportioned, and thus more desired (It has been said that people choose their "mates" based on well proportioned and aesthetically pleasing features, because it can represent "good genes" and health. People want to mate with someone who has good genes, so their offspring can be more successfull) Well these people who get so much plastic surgery are pulling the cloak over everyone elses eyes, and are providing false advertisement. I think it is hilarious, because these people are going to get married, have kids, and the kids aren't going to look a think like their mother looks like (at this point), and that mother is probably going to instill her own insecurities in the child and encourage them to change their look. What do these people do with their baby pictures, or pictures taken before their plastic surgery? Do they ever show their spouses? I mean really.

Its sad really really really sad. We are all selfish, and want what we can't have. We can't be thankful and appreciate what God gave us. Society supports it, and our poor great grandchildren are going to be altered before they are even born cause people are going to take it that far. SCARY...hopefully I wont be alive to see it

Beauty vs. Brains? PLEASE HELP ASAP?

Amy

I have a debate on Monday. So I need help ASAP! PLEASE!!! I am for beauty. So i want ideas! Please! and i want possible questions that the against team might ask me against my points. And questions i can ask for the other team (brains) X.X THANK YOU!!!

Answer
Assuming this beauty isnt very smart, thats the exact kind of person i want to marry. If you are significantly smarter it far easier to make them see your point of view and reason with them. On the other hand, theres the concern that you could have stupid kids. In terms of day to day life, being attractive makes life much easier because everyone wants to help/impress you. Being smart can only get you so far.

Some questions might be:

if your walking down the street and you get robbed who is more likely to be helped, an average looking person thats smart or a beautiful person?

being attractive means you are not only viewed as healthier but you tend to have better health than someone that isnt.

the more attractive you are the more persuasive you are.

Being attractive automatically gives you a good reputation.

Is this a Good Skin Care Routine for the Early 20s?

Labels:

Morning; cleanse with Olay Sensitive skin w/aloe
Burt's Bees Radiance Moisturizer with SPF

Night: Cleanse with Noxzema
Burt's Bees Repair Serum under eyes
Burt's Bees Naturally Ageless Night Cream alternating nightly with Prescription Retin-A gel

Once a week, I do a mask of mashed avacado with vitamin E oil, raw honey, and egg white

Answer
sounds like wayy too much to me.
i'm 21 and all i do is wash my face once in the morning with a daily exfoliator (right now it's st. ives green tea light exfoliator) and i moisturize after i wash in the morning and before i go to bed with aveeno with spf.
all the things you're using is just trapping your skin from breathing.
if you are trying to prevent your face from aging, all you need to do is drink a lot of water, stay out of pollution, and stay out of the sun.
it's simple, really. :)

What's your skin care routine?

Please be detailed and state your age! I'm 13 and mine is:
Step one: splash face with warm water and scrub face with Willa face wash
Step two: rinse face with cold water
Step three- moisturize face Burt's bees cream
Step four- put sunscreen on
That's it! Also say if you wear makeup and what kind! I just wear mascara! I'm big on washing my face and taking care if my skin!

Answer
I think it's good to start taking care of your skin young, & that you wear sunscreen. I've always worn SPF, & stay out of the sun, & at 31, people always assume I'm in my 20s. I attribute some of that to the retinol cream I use, but I think protecting myself from the sun is a bigger part. But what I do is :
-In the morning, I just splash my face w/water. I have dry skin, & for me it's just not necessary to use cleanser more than once a day. So then after that I apply Olay Regenerist Serum and Neutrogena Spectrum Plus Face SPF 100 sunscreen
-Then I do my makeup: L'oreal primer, Revlon Beyond Natural Skin Matching Makeup OR Sonya Kashuk tinted moisturizer, translucent powder, Maybelline Dream Mousse blush in Peach Satin, Maybelline Color Explosion eyeshadow in Caffiene Rush, L'oreal eyeshadow in Lush Raven (I use it as eyeliner w/a damp eyeliner brush),Maybelline Lash Stilletto mascara
-At night, I use Olay Foaming Face wash, which also takes off all my makeup. Or, if it's that time of the month, I use L'oreal Go Clean 360 Anti-Acne wash (I always get a few pimples around that time). Then I use Roc Retinol Correction Night Cream on my forehead, around my eyes, & mouth,& then put Olay Regenerist Serum over it.

Skin Care......?

Q. Im 12, and this is the time everyone gets pimples!!! Well' does anyone know a product out there i can use to grt rid of my zits or i mean like help my skin from frequent breakouts? Something thats not too expensive & that your mom would buy for you like at Wallgreens. Please - REAL ANSWERS.

P.S ( i know kids get pimples around this age, but I want to just help my skin, not be sooo oily and when I wake up theres not a new giant one smacked on my face :(...........

Answer
Hey!

I would avoid touching my face unnecessarily. Your hands touch many things, and they can pick up oils, debris and germs that could irritate the skin on your face. So try to avoid resting your chin in your hands. If you talk on the phone a lot, wipe the phone down with an antibacterial wipe once in a while so you don't irritate the skin on the side of your face.

Don't overdo it with the anti-acne products; you might want to get some products with salicylic acid (I find benzoyl peroxide products a bit too drying, but it can be good for spot treatments). You might want to get a gentle exfoliating scrub to use once or twice a week, and carry blotting papers with you to absorb oil that develops on your skin's surface throughout the day.

Be sure to eat a balanced diet and drink lots of water.

Most of all: Avoid makeup! My skin improved a ton when I avoided makeup. If you like to wear makeup, try just some mascara on your lashes and some lip gloss or lipstick. You don't need all that powder.... that can clog your pores.

cosmetics/skin care...?

amazingash

I work for a cosmetics/skin care company that requires me to preform at least 5 "beauty breaks" on customers a week. A beauty break is just a little pick-me-up for the customer...some of the breaks include a hand massage, a neck massage, an eye treatment, and a lip treatment. However, there is hardly any traffic in my store and the people that are in the store, don't really want to be bothered with these little breaks. Any ideas how to get people back to the counter so I can reach my goal?? What should I say?? (what I'm saying now isn't working!)

Answer
You can remind them in the middle of their treatment. This way you won't deal with the grumpiness that they may have when they first walk into the store.

Say something that just eases them into it like; you seem tense. A simple neck massage would do.

Don't talk too long or seem to gimmicky because a lot of people I know {including me) despise that. It seems like you're trying to just sell them something after they get this free treatment.

Just come off as nice, sweet, and that you actually care that they seem tense.....even if you probably don't.

Is there anything wrong with a man in his late 40's that has radiant skin because he takes care of himself?

One of my girlfriends rag on my new boyfriend and says that his skin looks nicer than many women's skin. Then says that she wants a rough man, not a girly man. Funny thing is that my new boyfriend can probably kick the shyt out of her "manly" husband.

I say my friend is just jealous because she is married to an ugly pot bellied loser.

Answer
I personally love nice skin on a mate :) I hope my skin still looks that's good when I'm 40
And don't listen to all this nonsense about him being gay or that guys cant be famine or whatever. All it means is he takes good care of his skin and last I checked that doesn't make someone a women or gay. Those things are not correlated.

What cosmetic/cleaning products are best for OILY skin?? HELP!?

Fort

My skin doesn't ever look like it has any makeup on under my school's fluorescent lighting!! Of course, whatever does look like it's still on... soon melts off of my EXTREMELY oily face. I want to know the best kind of (skin care, moistureizer, primers, foundation, and powder) that would be able to help or at least last on my greasy face (lol). If you could list the price, and what you have experienced with the product that would be awesome too!!!

Answer
I still have oily skin, well into my 40's.

Hands down, the best cleanser I have ever used is Serious Skin Care Glycolic Cleanser. It's not cheap(regular price is $20 for 4 oz, but MUCH cheaper on sale or in a kit), but you use a tiny amount, it gets your skin completely clean without overstripping it and you do not need a toner afterwards. Although the instructions say to apply it to a dry face, I found that to actually be too drying, so I use it on a wet face. It takes off ALL your makeup, too, even mascara! I get it from HSN or HSN.com, although I think Ulta or Sephora also carries it (I forget which one). HSN will have big sales on it once or twice a year and that's when I buy it (for ten years now).

Serious Skin Care also has a fantastic product for knocking down a zit overnight, especially the kind you can FEEL coming but can't see yet: Dry-Lo. I am never without it!

For moisturizer--don't need it. I use Olay Regenerist Serum and that is plenty except for the worst of the winter, and then I add the Olay Regenerist liquid moisturizer. They also make a night cream that I have tried, and it doesn't cause breakouts. I just find that I am so oily I don't actually need that unless it's been below zero for weeks. ;) But in general, I'd say look at serums before you look at actual moisturizers.

You don't need a primer--that's just a way to waste money. Skip it. Primer is for women with dry skin or dry patches or deep lines, to even out the texture. We oily gals don't usually have those issues, and the primer itself promotes shine, which we do not need. If you DO have a few dry patches, apply your serum to them before putting on makeup, but your sunblock ought to do the trick, really. Primer is a complete scam for 90% of women.

I don't use foundation. I use a concealer where I need it (around the nose, under the eyes) and blend it well. I very occasionally use a silicone based tinted moisturizer.

I SWEAR BY Clean And Clear Instant Oil Absorbing Sheets. You just gently press them against your face and they take all the shine off and don't disturb your makeup at all. LOVE THESE!

I do not wear mascara or eyeliner on my lower eye because by 10 AM, they are both just all over my face (whoever said your eyes can't be oily lied their butts off, btw.) On a night out I will, because it will stay on for a few hours, but that's it. Liquid eyeliner lasts longer than pencil or crayon, and pencil or crayon will last longer if applied OVER eyeshadow and then gone over with a powder (with an eyeliner brush). Brands make no difference, nor does waterproof vs. normal.

Clinique Touchbase is a good eye shadow primer, and L'Oreal also makes a good one. If you have oily eyelids (I do) this will make your shadow and liner last longer.

And, chin up! I am FAR less wrinkled than other women my age. That's the one positive thing to being oily! :)

For sunblock, the Neutrogena Dry Touch line is aces for oily skin. No shine, no breakouts. ACES!

What level tanning do I need to use?

Labels:

roo

I've been tanning a couple times before, and now that winter is coming around, I'm getting extremely white. I just want some advice as to what tanning bed I should use. When i went tanning before, I went on Level 1 for 8 minutes, and that didn't really work at all, I barely achieved the tan I was looking for. Some advice on that would help, and also, do I have to use the goggles they give me when I go tanning? I didn't use goggles before, and my eyes were fine, but people tell me that the UV rays still get into your eyes even though you close them. I didn't wear them because I didn't want raccoon eyes. Thanks to anyone who answers!

Answer
âBEAUTY FADES. DUMB IS FORVERâ â Judge Judy.

No RATIONAL and RESPONSIBLE Yahoo! Answer member is going to help you SCATHE your skin, RAVAGE the health of your skin, and DIE young in the name of beauty â a foolish one, in fact.

There is NO such thing as a safe tan from the sun or sunbed! The ONLY safe way to tan is with a well-formulated self-tanner for your specific skin type.

FACT â Both indoor tanning and sun tanning cause sun damage!
FACT â Tanning bed damages your skin at a higher intensity of UV radiation than the already dangerous sun exposure.
FACT â Ultraviolet-A ray penetrates the dermis and deteriorates collagen and elastic fibers.
FACT â Ultraviolet-B ray penetrates the epidermis and induces inflammation.
FACT â Both UV-rays cause sun damage and significantly increases your risk of skin cancer.

You may have a counter-argument for me, for example:

1)Light (UVB) therapy is used to treat psoriasis.
Rebuttal: True! However, phototherapy should ONLY be performed by a health care provider such as a board-certified dermatologist. The National Psoriasis Foundation recommends at-home UVB light bulb to treat psoriasis. There is a major difference here; that is, you do not need to tan or expose your whole body to high levels of UV radiation to treat psoriasis. Even with at-home treatments, it is imperative to have check-ups with your physician for sun damage and skin cancer. The National Psoriasis Foundation DISAPPROVE S people from using tanning bed to treat psoriasis. When performed in a doctorâs practice, psoriasis clinic, or hospital, the UVB intensity is controlled and minimal as well as constant doctor supervision. Lastly, there are a several other effective treatment options for psoriasis. There is no need to consider light there unless you have exhausted all of the other conservative and safer modalities.

Bottom Line: The research is CLEAR and the American Academy of Dermatology, Food and Drug Administration, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and World Health Organization all concur: indoor tanning and sunbathing are dangerous â PERIOD.
End of story.

My 1 Year old chocolate lab has been having trouble with her ears?

thetallywa

She has been to the vet and has had a course of antibiotics and ear drops but she is still shaking and rubbing at them, i am taking her back to the vets, has anybody else had this problem with a lab are know what might be happening?

Answer
My friend has had Labs for years, she takes them to the Vet constantly, they always have ear mites or some kind of infection. The Vet told her that it was because the labs ears flop over and the ear canal doesn't dry out making a perfect environment for ear mites, fungus growth and infection. I researched this problem and found this formula that dog handlers and dog show participants use to prevent these problems, because the AKC won't allow dogs to be shown without a clean bill of health.

Formula:
Warning: Do not use this ear cleaning solution on dogs with ruptured ear drums, or on dogs with open sores or wounds in the ear area.
An ear exam by a veterinarian is recommended prior to beginning treatment with this ear cleaning solution.

The ingredients you'll need are white vinegar, powdered boric acid, isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol), and Betadine antiseptic solution. Generic versions of the Betadine are known as Povidone-Iodine, and those are fine, too. Just be sure not to use "Betadine Scrub", which is Betadine with a detergent added. What you want is "Betadine Solution" or generic "Povidone-Iodine Solution".

The first time we looked for the boric acid and the Betadine, we had no clue where to find it... but our local Pharmacist was happy to point us in the right direction. They used to keep boric acid in stock out in the pharmacy section of drug stores and you could buy it "over the counter". Recently, it's gotten a little harder to get after the regulations got tightened regarding selling it... since boric acid can be used to manufacture illegal drugs. These days, you usually won't find it just sitting out on the shelf of your local drug store. You usually do have to ask the pharmacist for it.

You'll also need an empty bottle to store your ear cleaning solution in, and from which you will squirt the solution in to your dog's ear. We recommend use of a plastic bottle with a long applicator snout, and with markings on the outside that show fluid levels in ounces. This makes it very easy to measure the ingredients as you pour them in to the bottle. A great place to find these is at beauty supply stores, as they are commonly used for hair-coloring solutions.

What you see in the picture to the right is our final product. Here are the directions for mixing the solution together. Be sure to follow them in the order listed... I'll spare you the explanation of the chemistry involved, but trust me... to get the boric acid to dissolve properly, you need to do it exactly like this:

Pour 6 ounces of isopropyl alcohol in to your applicator bottle. (This is where those ounce measuring lines on the outside of the bottle really come in handy.) Next, add 1/2 tablespoon of boric acid powder. An easy way to do that is to measure the powder, dump it on to a piece of paper, fold the paper in half and use the paper as a funnel to get the powder in to the plastic applicator bottle. Be careful not to get any boric acid on your skin or clothing. If you do, wash it off immediately.

Shake the solution up really well, until the boric acid powder is fully dissolved. Next, add 2 ounces of white vinegar. Shake it up some more. Finally, add one teaspoon of the generic Betadine antiseptic, and shake it some more. The solution should take on coloring similar to ice tea. Be careful not to get any of the Betadine on your skin or clothing. If you do, wash it off immediately.

That's it! You're ready to move on to the hardest part now... getting your Lab to let you squirt this stuff inside the ear canal.

Applying this in to your Lab's ears is usually easiest if you have a two-person team... one to hold the dog still with the ear up and out of the way, and the other person to squirt the solution in to the ear. All you have to do is squirt it in there until you have completely filled the ear canal with cleaning solution. But don't let go of the dog quite yet. Fold the ear back down over the ear canal, and use your hand to rub things around so that the ear cleaning solution gets sloshed around inside there pretty well. Keep the dog still for a minute or so... because as soon as you let go, the dog's going to shake his head, and a lot of that cleaning solution is going to go flying out. If you get any of the ear cleaning solution on your skin, wash it off as soon as possible.

If you don't have someone who can help you hold the dog while you apply the cleaning solution, an alternative is to use a grooming table with a noose. The noose will keep the dog's head immobilized enough for you to do the job yourself.

Apply the cleaning solution to your dog's ears daily until you start to see some improvement. Once things get better, you can cut back to once a week... and when you're fully satisfied with the condition of the ear you can go two weeks between treatments. The ear cleaning solution can be stored at room temperature and, as far as I know, does not go bad with

Answer
Baby Face is really great for removing makeup. I haven't tried Celestial yet. It might be a bit heavy for my oily, acne prone skin, but I requested a sample on Lush UK order that I placed earlier today, so we'll see what I think of it (I wanted a heavier moisturizer for the winter because I live in a very cold climate and the wind and cold dries out my skin). Catastrophe Cosmetic is supposed to be a really great mask. I don't have a Lush store near me (I order everything from the UK), so I've never tried it. I'll be making a 2 hour trip to my nearest store in October and may come home with that mask (I haven't decided which one I want to try yet).

I really love Angels on Bare Skin cleanser. It's great for all skin types (even sensitive). I'd also suggest Fresh Farmacy. It's good for people with sensitive skin (because of the calamine) and for skin that is acne prone. Breath of Fresh Air Toner Water would be really great for your skin. I'd suggest going into a store and talking to one of the friendly sales associates. They are very knowledgeable about the products and will be able to find you something that works perfect for you.

I really love Rub Rub Rub shower gel. It smells amazing and exfoliates your skin. I also like The Olive Branch shower gel. For bar soaps, I really like Sea Vegetable, 17 Cherry Tree Lane (Retro; can only be bought on lush.com; has the same scent as Rub Rub Rub), Vanilla in the Mist, The Godmother, Miranda (Retro, lush.com only) and Rockstar. I really really love Lemslip Buttercream. It only contains 15% soap, so it still cleanses but is more moisturizing than bar soap and it smells AMAZING. I have a few favorite body lotions. I love Coco Lotion (not in North America yet, but can be ordered from Lush UK) and Vanilla Dee-Lite. Coco is very lightly scented (almost unscented) and Vanilla Dee-Lite smells delicious; it's unlike any other vanilla scent out there. Dreamcream is really great for my dry itchy winter skin. It soothes my skin and helps it heal.

Ok trying to make this short and to the point...My skin was always clear as a teenager but now ive been breaking out. Its not the type of acne that is on the surface its the type that forms under the skin. They are only whiteheads but they create little tiny bumps that i can feel and see. I went to the dermatologist and he gave me the lowest strength of differin. I have been using it for a few months. It has done nothing for me. I am confused because one week there are so many bumps and the next week they are all flat. I have not changed my diet or anything else. Any ideas besides using creams. I have sensitive skin also. Thank you so much for the help.

Answer
whatever you do..DON'T use benzoyl peroxide. I had your same problem and i tried using benzoyl peroxide to dry up the pimples, well I ended up with even more skin problems. It made my skin red and irritated whenever i used it. I went online and read that it's actually bad for your skin. No surprise!
Also... I think you should go visit a doctor. A skin problem is usually really a hormone problem. Think of it: In your teens you're hormones are usually raging due to puberty, resulting in oily skin and pimples. I had my case of whiteheads, which miraculously faded with time (I gave up meat, stopped touching my face, switched to a better face cleanser---yet i don't know what really helped) I still have some traces of whiteheads on my forehead though. But I think it's really a hormone issue because lately i've been getting irregular menses and i my thyroid hormones were out of balance in my teen years, so i think my skin problems are associated to my hormone problems. But I do think a change of diet and such does help. Good luck..hope I didn't confuse u!

skin care problems?

I have horribly oily skin, and i have to wash my face AT LEAST 3x per day. My skin (in terms of pimples) is not THAT bad but its been a while since it's been completely pimple free. It always seems like when one is going away I get another one. Are there any creams, ointments or even vitamins that I could use, that have worked well for someone you know? I've gone on accutane 5 years ago (taking the lowest dosage 1x day) and because the sideaffects are bad I'd rather not take it but if that looks like my only option then I will do it. Anyone have some suggestions?

Answer
Zinc, Vitamins c a and e help acne.. (skin)

I would suggest any three step regime [wash, toner acne cream twice a day] and carry the stridex pads that are like 'wet ones' now on the go for a mid day wipe down -
Before bed take a hot compress to your face to draw out the oil and dirt and also use a shampoo for oily hair (Proactive makes a shampoo) but rinse/repeat -

Have you ever used skin care products from Chinaï¼?

Have you ever tried a Chinese skin-care products, or What's your idea about Chinese skin-care products? Do you think some skin-care products are better than some from U.S. or Europe?

Answer
Skin care does not only rely on skin products it depends on diet and how much water you drink. A good face scrub and vitamin E cream are as good as any expensive products. Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables that contain antioxidants and drink plenty of water daily. Along with this use the face scrub and vitamin E cream Morning and night. Your skin will be great.

Make up and Skin care tips?

Labels:

The Crazy

does anyone have some good skin care tips? You know to get rid of blemishes? Also I wanted some cute make up tips. I'm only in middle school so I'm not wanting to put a load of make up on. Thanks.

Answer
Oh im in middle school too.
Tip #1 (for your eyes to POP):If you have green eyes, try out purple eye shadow shades such as lavender, violet, or amethyst. Keep the color sheer so it won't look garish. For eyeliner, a deep plum is perfect.

If you have blue eyes, go for a warm copper, burnished gold, or rich brown eye shadow. Chocolate is an excellent shade choice for eyeliner.

If you have brown eyes, opt for cool blue or green eye shadow tones like mint, powder blue, or teal. A deep forest green is an ideal eyeliner shade.
Tip # 2 (Fullness eyelash uh mascara)
Step 1: WIGGLE.
Wipe excess mascara off the brush head, then place it under the very base of your lashes so it's gently touching your eyelid. Now wiggle the bristles back and forth a few times. The wiggle motion thoroughly coats and separates your lash roots, making them look as thick as possible.

Step 2: SWOOP.
Slowly stroke the mascara from roots to ends. Let dry for a few seconds, then apply a second coat.

Step 3: TOP OFF.
Lightly swipe the very tips of your lashes a third time to maximize their length.

Tipd #3 (how to look good when you have a cold)
Double up on moisturizer
Sick skin means a dry, dull complexion. For an instant fix, Brown advises wearing two moisturizers at once. Apply a lightweight hydrating cream first, then layer on a rich balm. I like: Neutrogena Oil-Free Fresh Ultra-Light Moisturizer and Decléor Aromessence Essential Balm. This combination smoothes and plumps skin, leaving it luminous and fresh. Be sure to down plenty of water it will keep you and your skin hydrated.
Use concealer to hide a sleepless night
If you were up all night coughing, fake a restful night's sleep by using a yellow-based concealer to neutralize any redness or darkness under your eyes. I like: Bobbi Brown Cosmetics Creamy Concealer Kit. Use a concealer that is one or two shades lighter than your foundation then layer on a yellow-toned powder on top. If you are porcelain pale, use a white-toned powderâyellow tones look unnatural on super-pale skin
TIP #4!!! throwing out your old makeup gahh
lipstick if it 5 years you had that thing grr throw it away all the bacteria is growing if you dont use it try to tell your mom or anyone
foundation and sunscreen if it been 2 years throw it away
Mascaras should be tossed if it hasn't been all used up after 3 months, and eyeliners after 6 months.

Tip #5 got it off of some website about acne
*A superficial pimpleâthe kind that is on the surface of your skin and can be tempting to popâcan be cured by using a spot treatment that contains the maximum amount of either salicylic acid (2%) or benzoyl peroxide (10%). Treat your pimple morning and night, and bring down any swelling by icing it for 10 minutes. These tactics should zap your zit within a day or two, and in the meantime you can keep it covered with a blemish-fighting concealor.

*If you're cursed with a cystic pimpleâthose are the ones that are imbedded deep in your skin and can be painful when you press itâyou'll need to visit your dermatologist to see fast results. A quick cortisone injection will shrink that volcano down within a day.
TIP #6 remeber to clean your pillow case
Remember to rotate your pillow and change your pillow case regularly to avoid exposing your face to dirt and bacteria every night.

You should also avoid using fabric softener sheets in the dryer which contain chemicals and oils that can irritate sensitive skin.

What are some skin care tips?

Nataliah

I guess I dont really have acne,
but my skin isn't like... perfect, do you know what i mean?
like I dont have anything to horrible.
if your up close to me a i have a tiny bit of acne.

do you have any tips for skin care?

face cleaners?
moisturizers?

also i swim, so whats some tips for keeping dryness away?

Answer
i have combination skin. so it's like, oily but it dries out really easily. i use clean & clear deep action cream cleanser, and clean & clear oil-free dual action moisturizer.

that basically does the trick, but if i have a lot of blackheads i'll use a blackhead mask (again, by clean & clear) or biore pore strips.

that's what i've always done, but everyone's skin is different.

Thinking of going to beauty school but I don't know if I should?

I have my degree as a graphic designer but I have yet to find a job so I been thinking of going to school to learn how to cut hair and stuff. It looks fun and my friend just graduated Friday and just got a job today so I'm thinking of doing it I just don't know if it's something I'll actually enjoy once I'm there. Any advice?

Answer
Another concern is that beauty school is very expensive and do you currently have student loans?
Next: I say "GO - GO, but ONLY if you LOVE doing hair", makeup etc. .
Comment
I would suggest you finish school and scrub the beauty school idea for now. My fiance finished esthetics school about six months ago and has yet to make any serious money from the jobs she's landed. Beauty and esthetics positions usually start out paying very low. Sure, you can make good money after you've built a steady client list, but that takes years. Additionally, people are spending less on themselves right now because of the economic slump. You don't want to be in a declining market as a job hunter.

Comment
If you need the income to support yourself don't do it. If you need benefits there usually are none. As for competitive I can't say to much about it I have been in 3 salons in 18 years and I have been lucky to find great places. I will say if you are good then people will most likely be competing with you! As far as building a clientele that's the hard part. You need to get in a good salon that will help you. Do everything you can to learn whatever you can. I was lucky enough to get in with a lady that had me basically apprentice for her. I hated it a the time but I look back now and realize I wouldnt know half the stuff I do if it wasnt for her having me stand there and watch her all that time! Learn all you can in beauty school but realize that the learning really begins when you are all alone behind that chair. Just keep good people around you that are willing to help you out, you will need it when you run into that color that you have no idea what to do. I would say go work in an owner run salon that will guide you for a few years, then when you feel you have a good clientele go work for yourself either a salon in your home or lease a station.

I've considered going to cosmetology school for sometime. I have a four year college degree in Theater. I started out as a graphic design major in college and recently went back to take more classes in graphics. I hated it. I already sit at a computer all day at an underpaid photo editing job with no health insurance. I'm concerned though about paying $15,000 - $16,0000 to go back to school. I'm concerned I won't be able to support myself straight out of school because I have read some people say they make $10 an hour as a stylist. I could not live on that in Chicago. I am just a one person household with two cats.

Comment
I am like you in that I have a college degree and decided to go to cosmetology school to be a hairstylist. It is true you don't make very much fresh out of school, but there is potential to make a lot of money as a hairstylist, so the question you must ask yourself is how much uncertainty you are comfortable with when it comes to income. Every salon is different, but where I work you are on straight commission after a few months on the floor, which is definitely rough when you don't yet have an established clientele. I can't give you an exact figure but as an apprentice you probably will make about $20,000/yr (give or take a few thousand, and this includes tips), and your first year or so on the floor will be roughly the same, unless you happen to get your chair when someone who has a lot of client

There is also a significant difference in income for being a colorist versus a stylist (ie cutting hair). It is a sad but true fact that color services are more expensive than haircuts, and therefore colorists, on AVERAGE, make far more money than cutters. You can make extremely good money being a colorist at a high end salon once you have your clientele established. The biggest factors to success in this industry are how hard you work, the training you receive, people skills and confidence.

Training and income are closely related, and apprenticing at a high end salon with a reputation for excellent work will ultimately pays off because it will give you the skills and know how to not only do great work but to be compensated well for it. I won't lie, assisting isn't glamourous and can sometimes be a lot of labor but it is well worth it if you are learning from the best in the field.
As far as schools are concerned it doesnt really matter that much, the apprenticeship is really where you are going to learn to do hair, not in beauty school.

I have a friend who encouraged me to get into hair styling about 7 years ago. I thought he was crazy. I was building my own graphic design business. When the dotcom bust hit and we went into a bit of a recession, his earning remained solid and mine fell. I think his advice was solid and am seriously considering it now. His business is growing by leaps and bounds and he currently works 4 days a week and makes alot more money than I do.

Physical Beauty linked to Health?

Tatiana

I heard somewhere that physically attractive people tend to be more symmetrical and much of what we as humans consider attractive is linked to health and fertility.
My mother is someone most people would considered highly physically attractive. My father is one of other spectrum. I thought children would inherit the best genes from each parent, then why am I considered generally very unattractive?

Answer
Well, children don't inherit the "best" genes from each parent. They inherit half of each parent's genes at random. So even assuming that your mother had genes that made her physically attractive, you might not inherit them, or your father's less attractive genes might dominate.

That said, genes are only part of the story when it comes to physical attractiveness. Your environment, which includes things like diet, activity level, and exposure to disease, plays a large part. We don't really know how much a given trait is determined by genes versus environment, but physical symmetry seems to be strongly influenced by diet and health during childhood.

You may also be considered unattractive for social rather than biological reasons. Local standards of beauty can vary widely, and it could be that your looks are just very different from those idealized in your community. You may also not carry yourself well, especially if you've been repeatedly told you're unattractive. This can lead to self-reinforcing behavior, wherein you don't take proper care of yourself and your looks because you think you're unattractive anyway.
