Short-term consulting project: do I need to charge and pay sales-tax?

For the last two weeks, I have been working for a small company in New York City (Manhattan) doing some consulting work and am unsure as to whether I need to charge my client sales-tax for services rendered. If so, how do I find out who to remit payment to? Thirdly, would it be more commonplace to simply scale back the amount I am charging them to include the sales-tax in the daily rate we originally agreed-upon?
Answer
No.
The city of new york taxes the following:
1. Most tangible personal property (i.e. alcohol, furniture, electronics, etc.);
2. Gas, electricity, refrigeration, steam, telephone, and telegraph services;
3. Detective, cleaning, and maintenance services;
4. Occupancy of hotel and motel rooms;
5. Food and beverages sold by restaurants and caterers;
6. Admission charges to places of amusement;
7. Receipts from beauty, barbering, hair restoring, manicures, pedicures, electrolysis, massage, and other, similar services;
8. Receipts from the sale of services by or use of facilities of weight control salons, health salons, gymnasiums, and similar establishments;
9. Sales of credit rating and credit reporting services;
10. Receipts from the sales of the service of parking, garaging, or storing motor vehicles;
So unless your service is one of the few listed above (like a cleaning or detective work... ) then you don't charge a sales tax... I'm assuming your doing some sort of business type consulting work... in which case your like a lawyer and don't charge a sales or use tax.

How to make people comfortable with my hideous dark circles?

M.M.R
Well I've started to notice how people are treating a friend of mines its like he tries so hard to be nice but people seem to look at him like he's a worthless freak because of his under eye condition... He looks normal i'd say if it wasnt for it but i see people talk to him face to face and just act different like he's a disease. They don't like to look at him in the eye and if they do their kinda hostile to get away from him. Ive heard ppl say he looks like a zombie, freak, like he needs sleep, mean. I guess his conditon makes ppl uncomfortable. I guess its true that people only like beauty and normality. I just want to help em. It seems no matter what he does people just dislike em and become uncomfortable around em here is a photo. What do you guys suggest will make people less focused on his look and be able to look at him without being uncomfortable and looking at him like he's disgusting all the time.
PS Us girls were makeup and i dont think men are supposed to they get picked on if they do.
Here is a photo similar to his look.

Use an eye cream with caffeine, which helps constrict vessels (try Lancôme Rénergie Microlift R.A.R.E. Intense Repositioning Eye Lifter; $72, lancome-usa.com). Other smart alternatives: Arnica-based creams (found at health-food stores), which are considered to have anti-inflammatory properties, may reduce the appearance of darkness. And eye creams with green tea or grapeseed oil help strengthen capillary walls (try Replenix Intensive Eye Lightening Serum, $61, dermstore.com). You can tweak your diet, too. Flavonol-rich dark chocolate (an ounce a day) and foods full of omega-3 fatty acids (salmon, walnuts) may improve blood flow to the skin, says Lisa Drayer, a registered dietitian in New York City.

Are nail clippers and cell phone chargers allowed on carry-on bags?

Paco
I'm taking a flight for the first time that is leaving New York to Florida. Will I be allowed to carry a pair of nail clippers and my cell phone charger on my carry-on, or do those have to be checked in? Thanks!
Answer
Yes, absolutely.
The TSA won't even bat an eye at those things. Pretty much all health and beauty supplies are allowed (tweezers, nail clippers, small scissors used to trim your nose hair, hair dryer, flat iron, curling irons, etc.) are all allowed. And all basic tech supplies are allowed (computers, cords, mouse, video camera, video game consoles, etc.) are also all allowed.
Where beauty supplies get tricky is with the liquids rule. All liquids, creams, deodorants, etc. have to be in a bottle that is 3oz or less and all of those bottles has to fit into one quart sized plastic bag. They WILL bust you on this and make you throw away your stuff!

How to get gocery coupons? How to know which place accepts double or triple face value on coupons?

I heard they are only in sunday papers, but I don't use sunday papers. Is there a good online place where I can easily get the coupons, but does the stores accept print coupons? I heard that certain places will double the coupon face value, but how do I know which company do that? Which companies usually do that? I don't eat much processed food, so maybe coupon wouldn't help me much?
Answer
There are places where you can print out grocery coupons and more from your computer. A friend just recently told me about it...He has printed out over $600 in grocery coupons this last month (March 09).
You can save money with National and Local companies, too!
I live in Fresno, California. I just plugged in my zip code and got over 400+ products, services, and stores in a 25 mile radius from my home! Many are national companies and the rest are local. Plus, countless numbers of grocery coupons from Betty Crocker, Pillsbury, Lucky Charms, Frosted Flakes, Hamburger Helper, and many more, along with coupons for over the counter drugs, too.
Below are just a few examples of place you can save money in Fresno. You can put your zip code in too.
TAX PREPARATION at H&R Block ($20 off), Liberty Tax services ($25 off)
AUTOMOTIVE: Big O Trires, Discount Tires, Pep Boys Auto Centers, AAMCO Transmissions, Goodyear auto services- Hertz, Avis, and Budget Rental......
HEALTH AND BEAUTY: Jenny Craig, Gold's Gym, Sally Beauty Supply, Astrum Hearing Solutions-HEARING AIDS, Beltone hearing aids, Eye Exam of California, Lenscrafters, .....
DINING: Di Cicco's (local), Carl's Jr., Dominos Pizza, Tony Romas (local), Tastee Freeze, Arby's, Papa Johns, Pizza Hut, Johnny Rockets, Chevy's Fresh Mex, Subway, Burger King, Quizno's...
LODGING: Ramada Inn, Super 8, La Quinta Inn and suites, Days Inn, Comfort Suites, Knights Inn, Quality Inn and Suites, Country Inn and Suites, Red Roof Inn.....
SHOPPING: Ann Taylor Loft, New York and Co., Macy's, Target, J.C. Penny, Rent A Center, Office Depot, Costco, Sears, Michaels,
Plus Golf, Movies, Bowling and much, much more!
Here is a link that will tell you more:

P.S. I was also able to purchase gift certificates from local restruants for $25 and only paid $2-$5 for...it is cheaper to eat out then it at home.
I hope this helps.

Could anyone here envision electing politicians with a more humanistic viewpoint?

Gnosisques
By humanistic I mean a view which defines all humans as important, where knowledge and adventure is a greater motivation than wealth and power. Where all people are guaranteed food and shelter; where honesty and integrity replace lies and deception. Where beauty and art is more important than muscles and testosterone.
What say you? None of us are going to get out of this alive and I was just thinking we would all be better off if we worked together?
JR: A small minority of the population is against a peaceful society, about 0.5%. Now we know which percentage you are. Those fighting against society are the true evil people and it is not even one percentage of the population, why should we let them rule?
Answer
It is hard to be Humanistic when 536 Politicians have CONTROL over 310,000,000 Americans.
That is why the founders set up Strong State Government....to put control and power as close to the people as Possible.
That MUCH Power in So Few Hands breeds CORRUPTION and Dishonesty.
Here is my FIX to the Problem:
"All of our Socioeconomical Problems are Caused by 536 Elite, Privileged, Professional, Permanent, Political RULING Class Members in Washington DC, that have TOO Much Control and Power, in which Corruption is the Currency that is RUNNING and RUINING our Countryâ¦.
Contact YOUR Local Media outlets, Government Representatives, Federal, State and LOCAL and DEMAND these 5 SIMPLE STEPS to Fix the TRUE CAUSE to all of our problems:
1) Require States to Pay the Salary, Retirement, Travel and Living Expenses, and Staffing Needs of their own US Senators and Representatives in the House. (They could not set their own pay and benefits that way and be Beholden to those that Elected them, not Washington, DC Special Interests)
2) Legislators can NEVER vote to "Exempt" themselves from any Law they Pass. For Example, healthcare and Insider Trading (both of which they exempted members of Congress from having to comply)
3) Same Term Limits as the President. If you sit out a Term and Run again and your Constituency wants you back you can do 2 more Terms, then sit again. It will Stop Politicians from Making it a Career Choice, rather than Public Service.
4) Turn over Control and Funding of the Dept. of Ed, EPA, Dept of Commerce, Health and Social Services, Land Management, Parks, etc, Back to the States to Operate as they deem appropriate for their Respective States. IF Congress did not have CONTROL of Purse Strings, they would not be such a BIG, Corrupt Target for Lobbyists and Contributors.
5) Lastly, Citizens and Corporations can ONLY donate to the Campaign of Individuals that Represent the District in which you LIVE and/or Work. Why should Liberal Unions in New York be Giving Millions of Dollars to a Democratic Senator for Alaska? ONLY one Reason and it's NOT Honorable.
These simple fixes would change our whole way of "Operating." It would inspire Leadership Rather than Control. It would save $100's of Billions of $$$ in pet projects and Destroyed Wealth during elections. And eliminate the "necessity" to bribe Congress with Lobbyists to get anything done.
