How do i get my boyfriends twist to stay twisted.when his new growth come in?

I twisted my boyfriend hair soo they can turn into dreads about 2 - 3 weeks ago and already his new growth coming in and his twist look terrible now , soo i tryd twistin the new growth but it wont stay twisted at the root how can i keep it twisted pleaseee help
