Skincare help for my 16 year old daughter?

Labels:

Richard P

Iâve just spent a small fortune buying my 16 year old daughter skincare but she now tells me that see needs something for her âdryâ arms and legs. A friend recommended getting some Nivea Body for dry skin, does anyone know if Nivea is any good or can suggest a âcheapâ alternative

Answer
"Cheap" shouldn't be part of the vocabulary with skin care - 87% of all products contain mineral oil and this is very cheap and actually makes your skin more dry - so go for something with a shea or cocoa butter or vitamin e or natural oils.
It may cost a little extra but you don't want any skin to absorb mineral oil - so read labels -
(Arbonne, Aveeno, Berts Bee or Booths products)

I have an uber rough draft of a poem. Care to help revise?

'ight guys. Tear it to shreds. :)

Grasping the glacial hand,
Papery-thin skinned corpse,
I stare into crimson eyes-
The steps begin.

I dance with darkness
Cruel but enticing.
Itâs just harmless play.
These steps canât change me.

Flawlessly our feet glide,
Animalistic excitement builds,
Sinewy arms pull me close-
The steps quicken.

I dance with darkness
Cruel but enticing.
Itâs just harmless play.
These steps canât change me.

Bodies bowed against each other,
Flesh upon flesh,
Ice slithers into my soul-
The steps persist.

I dance with darkness
Cruel but enticing.
Itâs just harmless play.
These steps canât change me, can they?

Silence follows fading notes,
Our pretzeled limbs try untangling,
Only to be discovered fused-
The steps bind.

I danced with darkness
Alluring at first.
I thought itâd be okay.
Those steps distorted my soul.

Bloodlust eyes, frosty skin,
Reptilian cunning,
I am darkness.
Care to dance?
Thanks. The line "I am darkness" is supposed to show the complete takeover of soul. If that is unclear to others please say.
Thank you so much for your kindness. It is extremely encouraging.

Answer
First, I want to say that I am a poet, too. And I pride myself on my vocabulary. But you have a great vocabulary, much better than mine. But why would you say in the fourth stanza that you are dancing with darkness ( a good line), but contradict it in the last stanze with "I am darkness." You need to read your poem aloud to a few people or have them read it to you so you can see what might be confusing to others.
Your repetition was great, repeating how as you got further into the dance, you were more drawn and changed. That shows a big thing about your character and your attitude.
I know that when we post poems on Answers, we expect to be ripped apart, but I can't think of many things to say about your poem except for the fact that it is really great. I don't have much criticism.

The wind breezes through my hair,
enchanted by the view from under.
as i gaze down, stuck in my stare,
listening to the rain and thunder.

feeling my skin freeze,
so cold as i slowly lurch,
from the winds cool breeze,
forward upon my perch,

my bare feet peek over the side
wanting to leap, to my freedom
as i open up my arms, to glide
you want me, being its so seldom

i hear you whisper my name,
telling me to come to you.
aren't you happy that i came?
hearkening on what to do.

because i can't help it,
my mind you invaded.
on the near edge i sit,
my stamina degraded.

I leap from my safe haven,
unaware that my actions.
could possibly be graven,
i lose breath, my reaction

unable to catch what ran,
slipping faster onto spot.
spreading my arms in span,
the friction burning hot.

now oh so close to the end
having memories run wild
from the far beginning when,
i was just a small child.

tasting the blood on my lips,
speeding through the air.
as my skin frigidly rips,
smiling without a care.

Answer
Your use of heightened vocabulary ("harkened", "lurch", "stamina", etc.) contrasts oddly with the rest of the poem's vocabulary. With this rhyme scheme, I would recommend that you heighten the rest of the vocabulary to improve the epic feel of the poem.

Also, avoid contractions in poetry that contains heightened vocabulary. The syntax begs for more formal language.

All in all, very good use of rhyme and I really enjoyed the terseness of each line. Your imagery is good and I would like you to use more!

So clueless about makeup?

heyy hi he

I want to wear more face makeup and otter things Im just not sure what they are
Like what is
Primer
Powder
Concealer
Bronzer
What otter face things should u know about? I know about eye shadow, liner, and mascara! Help

Answer
Get ready, makeup -and its vocabulary, tools, etc.- is another diverse universe of its own, I hope I can be the slightest of help, love. :)

Powder: Powders are used to hold concealers and foundations on, which are inclined to mess themselves up in the slightest gesture. For example, after you apply a concealer under your eyes, it is quite smart to press some darker colored powder on to hold the concealer together. For normal skin, use powder where you need it, which is generally forehead, nose and chin, the 'T-Zone'. However, if you have oily skin, you must apply powder everywhere on your face to make sure your makeup does not go off.

Concealer: It's name pretty much speaks for it, concealers conceal. Most common uses of concealers is to lighten those dark-purple, dreaded circles in your eye. Concealers have creamy texture because they must blend into the skin perfectly. It is very important to always use a brighter-yellow shaded concealer than your skin tone if trying to hide dark tones, because it creates brightening effect.

(P.S for concealers: There are concealers to hide everything, from under-eye circles to pimples, to broken veins. To hide red patches, green and blue concealers are used instead. Purple tinted concealers make unnaturally-yellow faces rosy.)

Primer: No, no and no, primer's not just an option. Primer literally turns the face into a perfect 'canvas' for makeup application. Your face is full of fine lines and pores which would even more defined if foundation was applied first. They generally consist of waxes and special polymers that not only hydrate your skin but can make your makeup dissolve better and stay longer on you. Sephora's Smooting Primer is a great one.

Bronzer: Bronzers are for giving you a bronze complexion, and they are usually formed of more than one colors to imitate the true loveliness of sun bronzing that shout fresh, beautiful and healthy.

Lipstick: Applying a lipstick may sound easy to the ear, but when applying a strong color, such as a vibrant red, you must use a special lipstick brush to apply it good enough. Never ever use a lipstick on chapped lips, always moisturize and care for your lips by gentle exfolation followed by generous amount of lip balms. Dior's 'Serum de Rouge' is my absolute favorite for lip care.

You should also know about foundations and tinted moisturizers, I believe.
Foundation evens out the skin's tone and texture. The goal of applying foundation is to achieve smooth and clear skin, and the color perfect for you must dissolve right into your skin, the wrong shade will change to color of your face and make a disaster. Use it on your forehead before buying a foundation: if it works on your forehead, it can work pretty much everywhere else.

Tinted moisturizer is also kind of a foundation, but is more innocent and natural. They usually come with SPF and they hydrate your skin, which makes it an on-the-go favorite. Clinique makes great tinted moisturizers.

After getting married a year ago now i am pregnant and waiting for my first baby.I am very exited for this so i need any info about baby tips care. Thanks

Answer
Wow... there are a lot of great tips on here. I have to say I love 'dontfencemein's answer though the best. I am usually really wordy too but I dont have much to say because she pretty much said all I would have!!
Mischelle, RN had some really good points too... I had to giggle though -in a nice reminiscent way- you can tell she is a real nurse because of her first sentence, I remember with my first son the nurses all said the same thing about trying to wake the baby for its feedings and I thought... like hell... I aint waking a sleeping baby, that is a blessing, lol... of coarse until he is 6 months old and you are engorged at 8 pm, lol. My how things change, lol. Also with the bathing thing, with my first son I would of coarse bathe every night as part of our bed time routine and he ended up with horrible dry skin. Our doc said to only bathe once or twice a week or unless needed (overly poopy diaper, etc). As soon as I cut back, his cradle cap went away and his exema. I really caught hell from people who thought it was 'gross' not to bathe their kid every night, but I am on baby #3 and have no skin probs with my kids.
And kudos to Angela B for talking to her baby like an actual person. My neice was concerned that her daughter wasn't talking and when she did it was nonsense. They moved into town and I started spending time with them and just recently told her exactly what you said. She talks to her daughter in baby talk - dadoo for water - num num for food... etc... this child just turned two. She was baffled that my kids spoke well early on and now at 7 and 10 use pretty decent vocabulary (lol... my 7 yr old just told me the other day that he 'quite prefers' soda over water, mom' however cute btw didn't get him the soda, lol). I never put much thought into it, I was just older when I had my first kid and it always really irritated me when I heard moms talking all cutsie with their kids so I just never did it.
Kids learn what you provide them with. If you want them to speak like they have two touching brain cells then that is how you have to speak to them, lol
Anyway... Everything I could think of saying has already been said, I just think it is nice sometimes to get on and support some of the answerers. About the only thing I can think of that I hadn't seen in your answers yet would apply more as your child grows up and I live by this or I would go nuts because I am a major control freak, lol.... Pick your battles, not every battle HAS to be won. Take a deep breath and think things through before demanding your child do or dont do a certain thing. For ex: My son at 3 wanted to start caring for our dog, feeding him that is. All I could think about was the mess it would make and I would always tell him no... until my hubby said 'you need to start asking yourself 'why not' and letting him do some of these things so he can learn' He was so right. My son only spilled the food a couple times and he has been the one feeding the pup for 6 yrs now. Of coarse I hovered and reminded a lot or we would have had a starved pup, lol. But.. that is it.. when I really question 'why not' now, I just think of the bigger battles coming down the pike and how important it will be to win those, ie dating, driving, college, lol!!
You got some great tips on here! Great question!!!
Good Luck... have fun with your new one.

What are all the different types of doctors?

Kuragari

I think there are close to 10 different types of doctors and I have no idea what any of them are. Anyone can fill me in? Say what they are and what they do and maybe an example if you are feeling nice? Thanks.
