Over 30 skin care routine?

Labels:

mimster

I need a skin care routine that deals with combination skin over 30, more prominent wrinkles around the eyes and mouth, and quite a few blackheads on the nose. A step-by-step routine with product suggestions would be appreciated!

Answer
Combination skin can be tricky and one of the best ways of dealing with it is to use the method which the German skin guru Dr Hauschka advises. It's very simple, effective and cost efficient: only moisturise your skin during the day and leave your skin bare of any products at night. By leaving off your skin cream, the skin will produce its own natural moisture and in so doing, balance your skin better. It may take a couple of weeks for you to see a difference and any dry areas may feel a little tight to begin with but persevere and eventually, you'll find that your skin balances out better.

Because you won't be moisturising at night, you can be generous during the day. For combination skin, I recommend you use Mir products which are rich in anti-ageing ingredients but light on the skin and non-comedogenic (which means they won't clog your pores or aggravate your blackheads). Part of the product line is argan oil but don't be alarmed, this is not a greasy or clogging product, it goes on silky smooth and your skin will absorb it easily. Everyone I've recommended it to raves about it and has seen a difference in their skin in a matter of weeks. You simply mix a drop or two into Mir moisturising cream. Alternatively, try the Mir Skin Silk lotion which already contains argan oil so it's been pre-mixed for you.

Eye creams are a con - a way for cosmetics companies to sell more products so don't waste your money. But you do need an ultra gentle, high quality product that will not cause your eyes to puff up - which is usually a reaction to the chemicals in skin creams or eye products. Mir skin products are so gentle that they double up as eye creams so you can use a single product over your whole face.

Cleansing is of vital importance and there is a beauty secret to achieving perfectly clean skin, free of blackheads but without drying it or stripping it. I've written about this at length in my blog and it has transformed my own skin so I can't praise it highly enough. Go to www.sofarsoyoung.com and look at the post entitled 'How Clean is Your Skin?' in which you will find details of my secret solution: microfibre cloths. These were invented by doctors so you can rest assured that you are using something safe, effective and kind to skin. Your skin will be cleaner and clearer than ever.

Toner is not necessary if you cleanse correctly but if you want to use one, Mir do a good toner for combination skin which contains natural rose water - this is a gentle but effective astringent for combination skin but won't dry the skin out. Caudalie do a very nice toner for sensitive skin too (which you can use to remove eye make-up gently) but if you use a microfibre cloth, you won't need toner or an exfoliating product as the cloth will do all that for you and will help balance your combination skin. Exfolation is very important, especially in clogged areas (where you have blackheads). A micro fibre cloth will exfoliate your skin like nothing else and will do it ultra gently without any risk of damaging the skin.

If you go to 'Our Star Selection' on my blog, you'll see other product recommendations and the website for Mir products.

Finally, to prevent further wrinkles, wear a high sunblock every single day. SPF 15 in winter and SPF 30 in summer. And don't forget to pat it around your eyes to stop any further crows feet. 85% of skin ageing is caused by the sun so an SPF is your skin's best friend. They can clog pores so only use mineral powder (the best is Jane Iredale and she does a mineral sunblock, you'll find sources for Jane Iredale products on my blog) or try the Australian brand Invisible Zinc, as recommended by Elle Macpherson, Jerry Hall and Georgia May Jagger.

I don't sell anything, these are simply my own recommendations based on experience. I'm almost 44 and I don't have a single line or wrinkle on my face so trust me, my method works!

Good luck.

Which is better? Exposed Skin Care or Acne Erasing Secrets?

Which is better? Exposed Skin Care or Acne Erasing Secrets?

Answer
Neither, they're part of a billion dollar business.

Any kind of facial wash, you're leaving something toxic behind, it's not a matter of convenience, it's a billion dollar business that can do more harm than good to your acne. And sometimes we feel entirely virtuous about our skin-care regimen because it's full of SPF-- all year round!-- and cleansers and such. But the truth is, we may not realize that we're overdoing (or underdoing) something that can lead to the very thing we're trying to avoid: dryness, breakouts, accelerated aging, New York dermatologist Dr. Jeannette Graf. (I've been giving this same advice for decades, but she's proof enough!).
Take a shower everyday, use washcloth to exfoliate and bath & body wash. Hydrogen peroxide does wonders for acne. Visit their website for more tips & other uses. ONLY $1.

Acne medication could worsen what ever allergies you have, so instead of trying out one product after another, you're actually spreading it around.
The less products you use, the better for your skin. Use a bath & body wash like Suave, Irish Spring, Dove Body & Face wash in the shower, use a washcloth. Treat your face like the rest of your body, take a shower everyday or wash your face everyday.

The secret is keeping your face clean and oil-free. I also don't use liquid on my face for anything, and very little moisturizer, not even a dime size. Since my face is not dry. Good skin also comes from your good genes. Increase your fresh fruits & vegetables 3-5 servings per day. And programmed your mind to do this day after day, for the rest of your life.

The beauty industry is a trillion dollar business, they know acne is everyone's problem, but instead of saying soap is drying for you, they have to invent an acne product that can worsen the skin as MANY TEENAGERS have experienced during hormonal change, but as you get older those are completely a waste of time & money!

Sometimes just the oil on your face from make up and lotions, even from your hair can travel to your face causing acne to come out. Others, from stress, hormones & diet or foods.

Google: FIVE FOODS TO EAT FOR BEAUTIFUL SKIN
All the vitamins & minerals you need for good skin care comes from all the healthy foods you eat from Mother Nature.

If acne's a problem, your pillowcases may be part of the cause. "They collect skin oil, dead skin cells, bacteria, and excess night creams," says David Bank, a professional Dermatology @ Columbia University/New York-Presbyterian Hospital. "But if nothing changed by 6 week the product will never work for you. Time to move on."

"If you have breakouts, dairy is the devil' it is inflammatory and will add hormones to your already hormone-rife system. Get calcium elsewhere, or try nonfat organic dairy products. For PMS breakouts, avoid dairy and bakery items the week before your period - sugar and flour are both causes for pimples and collagen." Dr. Jessica Wu, M.D. University of Southern California School of Medicine and author of the new book Feed Your Face.

SOMEONE WROTE TO ME the other day, ASKING IF THIS BRAND IS BETTER THAN THAT BRAND - FOUND @ DRUGSTORES THEN WROTE ME BACK & THANK ME, SHE LOOKED @ HER MOM'S SKIN AND THEY WERE GOOD, BUT SHE USES ONLY WATER TO WASH HER FACE. There you go, an update.

Lea Michele recently revealed her secret to clear skinâShe gives it room to "breathe." "Maybe I'll put on a little mascara. But other than that I try very hard to just let my skin breathe," she told people.com. "I care more about letting my skin breathe than how I look."
Another good example is Lily Collins, actor, writer, artist: "When I travel to Europe, I go days without putting anything on. It feels healthier. I just never understood the idea of caking it on. The more you have on your face, the more there is to smudge and go wrong." Glamour - Sept. 2012.
