Im worried about transition. Like money, lifestyle all that. Is it very different from the USA or just small adjustments?

Answer
"Is it very different from the USA or just small adjustments?"

hmmm...
Small adjustments on one hand and like night and day adjustements on the other.

On the surface seems pretty similar.
Dollars and cents with a pretty much on par exchange rate, both speak English with sort of kind of the same moral views.
But look deeper past the superficial and it's a whole different culture.

Lifestyle:

Same sex marriage is now legal in the USA.
In Canada it's been that way for awhile... nobody cares who you do and it's quite the inane thing to measure a human being by.
Skin tone and religion also, nobody notices or cares what colour you are or which God or Prophet you worship. You're allowed to be who you want to be - no moral judgements.

The same assault rifle used in the Colorado theatre shootings is available in Canada. True we do have gun control but the thing Americans don't get is it's as much to do with a culture's self-control as it is about weaponry.
I couldn't even imagine leaving armed schools as a legacy for my children and if teachers needed weapons to protect my own kids from my own neighbors.. well suffice to say that wouldn't fly here. There would be no larger red flag that could be waved.

Queen Elizabeth II is the Queen of Canada, a Canadian citizen... our Head of State. Many think that means there is some attachment to Britain. No disrespect to the USA but they don't have a clue about their neighbor, never really have. Example, The War of 1812 when the USA thought if they invaded we'd all rebel against British rule so we could become a US State.
That's kind of humourous up here. Unlike The 13 Colonies:

"several other self-governing colonies of the British Empire were considered dominions equal in status to Canada. Only one other country actually used the title 'Dominion ofâ¦' in its full name however; the Dominion of New Zealand. The British used 'dominion' in a generic context to refer to any colony that was more or less self-governing. After the passage of the Statute of Westminster in 1931 the definition of dominion became lot more precise, with the British drawing a clear line of separation between what was a "dominion" and what was a "colony." From henceforth, a "dominion" was declared to be an independent country..."

Some world opinion:

"First place on the Personal Freedom Sub-Index went to Canada. Then came Norway, New Zealand, Australia, Sweden, Denmark, Ireland, and Iceland. The United States followed in ninth place. Belgium, Uruguay and Finland took tenth, eleventh and twelfth, respectively"

Canada ranks No. 1 in our annual look at the Best Countries for Business. While the U.S. is paralyzed by fears of a double-dip recession and Europe struggles with sovereign debt issues, Canadaâs economy has held up better than most. The $1.6 trillion economy is the ninth biggest in the world and grew 3.1% last year. It is expected to expand 2.4% in 2011, according to the Royal Bank of Canada.

"Canada's overall police-reported crime rate dropped six per cent in 2011 from the previous year, reflecting the lowest crime figures recorded since 1972. Statistics compiled by the Canadian Centre for Justice Statistics (CCJS) and released Tuesday by Statistics Canada showed that the crime rate in 2011 was at its lowest level in 39 years. The decline continues a downward trend that began in the 1990s"

Hope that helps, and looking forward to being graced by your presence :)

EDIT TO ADD...

"There is also much disdain for Americans here in Canada, to the point where I do not tell many where I come from. "

Indeed.
That why I'm answering an American respectfully, as a friend and neighbor hoping they'll visit.
It's out of distain.

How long does it take to become a hair stylist?

Holly

Anyone know how long it takes to become a hair stylist? What are the classes like? Do you need to be someone who is naturally good at doing hair or can they teach you everything you need to know? thanks

Answer
each state has it's own requirement for hours of training to become a graduate cosmetologist. a cosmetologist is proficient in hair, nails, make up, skin care, etc. after cosmetology school, (took me about a year). if you want to specialize in any of the above areas, or become an instructor in any area of cosmetology, that will require another specific number of hours of training to complete.

a good instructor can teach you all you need to know to become an excellent hair stylist, colorist, and manicurist. a natural ability can help too. that, plus really enjoying/liking to do that sort of thing.

each state requires a license to practice cosmetology. to recieve a license, you must pass a state board test in all areas of cosmetology.

i went to cosmetology school in colorado and that state has one of the highest number of hours required (or did have when i went), ((i have since moved to a state requiring less hours, so the license was recripocal from colorado to the state i moved to)) for a general cosmetology license.

hope this helps.

check with a cosmetology school in your area to learn the hour requirements and a general idea of how long it takes to complete.
