I've been looking into classes on medical and non-medical aesthetics schools and all say that it takes 600 hours to pass it.!!!!!! Is there anyway/place that I could go to to find out if there are some aesthetic assistnant intern jobs out there (I'm in Colorado)?

Thank you~

Answer
I'm an aesthetician. The 600 hours goes by in a flash. I would highly recommend it over working at a spa as a trainee. You have to have 1,000 hours of experience as a trainee before you can even go to boards to get your license. Plus, I believe you will learn a LOT more in school then on the spot. Sure, the bookwork is boring (but there really isn't much of it). The classes are mostly hands-on. By my 4th class, we were giving each other facials, 10th class we had a "clinic" where real clients came in (most tip!) and I was a part-time student. The teachers really prepare you for boards too, which you'll need. You won't learn all of the safety precautions from working at a spa, because no one at a spa is actually that clean! Boards test you by an over-exaggeration of cleanliness and safety that you will never use in real life.

My advice would be to go to school, part time is a little less than a year (3 times a week) and will prepare you for what you want to do.

Good luck! :)

how to take care of skin and prevent break outs and get rid of black heads?

what kids of stuff can i do like vitamins to take and food to eat/ avoid.

Answer
Some things that you have to consider is where you live and what types of weather you are in. For example, I live in Colorado where it is super dry even when it is snowing, so when I wash my face more than once my face becomes just covered in dry skin. I wash my face once in the morning and once at night, and that does the trick.
But some things you can do are:

#1. Decide upon the wash you will use and keep it going. (No switching back and forth between products and/or skipping some days)

#2. When you wash your face, don't scrub it off! I like to basically give my face a nice soothing massage.

#3. Apply some type of toner and lotion after the wash. Occasionally (about once a week), try a mask.

#4. Try not to touch your face! Make it a rule and every time you find yourself touching your face, remove your hands and eventually that will just come second nature.

#5. One of the most cliche ones, but big ones, is to try to at least eliminate greasy foods and/or add good foods such as berries and fruit. This will help A LOT!

#6. When it comes to make up, use the good brands that are non comedogenic and such so they do not clog your pours.

#7. Last, maintain stress levels if possible. Go for that nightly walk, read a book, take a moment out for yourself. Sometimes acne can be triggered by stress.

I hope I helped:D

Would moving to Canada be very different from the USA?

Im worried about transition. Like money, lifestyle all that. Is it very different from the USA or just small adjustments?

Answer
"Is it very different from the USA or just small adjustments?"

hmmm...
Small adjustments on one hand and like night and day adjustements on the other.

On the surface seems pretty similar.
Dollars and cents with a pretty much on par exchange rate, both speak English with sort of kind of the same moral views.
But look deeper past the superficial and it's a whole different culture.

Lifestyle:

Same sex marriage is now legal in the USA.
In Canada it's been that way for awhile... nobody cares who you do and it's quite the inane thing to measure a human being by.
Skin tone and religion also, nobody notices or cares what colour you are or which God or Prophet you worship. You're allowed to be who you want to be - no moral judgements.

The same assault rifle used in the Colorado theatre shootings is available in Canada. True we do have gun control but the thing Americans don't get is it's as much to do with a culture's self-control as it is about weaponry.
I couldn't even imagine leaving armed schools as a legacy for my children and if teachers needed weapons to protect my own kids from my own neighbors.. well suffice to say that wouldn't fly here. There would be no larger red flag that could be waved.

Queen Elizabeth II is the Queen of Canada, a Canadian citizen... our Head of State. Many think that means there is some attachment to Britain. No disrespect to the USA but they don't have a clue about their neighbor, never really have. Example, The War of 1812 when the USA thought if they invaded we'd all rebel against British rule so we could become a US State.
That's kind of humourous up here. Unlike The 13 Colonies:

"several other self-governing colonies of the British Empire were considered dominions equal in status to Canada. Only one other country actually used the title 'Dominion ofâ¦' in its full name however; the Dominion of New Zealand. The British used 'dominion' in a generic context to refer to any colony that was more or less self-governing. After the passage of the Statute of Westminster in 1931 the definition of dominion became lot more precise, with the British drawing a clear line of separation between what was a "dominion" and what was a "colony." From henceforth, a "dominion" was declared to be an independent country..."

Some world opinion:

"First place on the Personal Freedom Sub-Index went to Canada. Then came Norway, New Zealand, Australia, Sweden, Denmark, Ireland, and Iceland. The United States followed in ninth place. Belgium, Uruguay and Finland took tenth, eleventh and twelfth, respectively"

Canada ranks No. 1 in our annual look at the Best Countries for Business. While the U.S. is paralyzed by fears of a double-dip recession and Europe struggles with sovereign debt issues, Canadaâs economy has held up better than most. The $1.6 trillion economy is the ninth biggest in the world and grew 3.1% last year. It is expected to expand 2.4% in 2011, according to the Royal Bank of Canada.

"Canada's overall police-reported crime rate dropped six per cent in 2011 from the previous year, reflecting the lowest crime figures recorded since 1972. Statistics compiled by the Canadian Centre for Justice Statistics (CCJS) and released Tuesday by Statistics Canada showed that the crime rate in 2011 was at its lowest level in 39 years. The decline continues a downward trend that began in the 1990s"

Hope that helps, and looking forward to being graced by your presence :)

EDIT TO ADD...

"There is also much disdain for Americans here in Canada, to the point where I do not tell many where I come from. "

Indeed.
That why I'm answering an American respectfully, as a friend and neighbor hoping they'll visit.
It's out of distain.

How long does it take to become a hair stylist?

Holly

Anyone know how long it takes to become a hair stylist? What are the classes like? Do you need to be someone who is naturally good at doing hair or can they teach you everything you need to know? thanks

Answer
each state has it's own requirement for hours of training to become a graduate cosmetologist. a cosmetologist is proficient in hair, nails, make up, skin care, etc. after cosmetology school, (took me about a year). if you want to specialize in any of the above areas, or become an instructor in any area of cosmetology, that will require another specific number of hours of training to complete.

a good instructor can teach you all you need to know to become an excellent hair stylist, colorist, and manicurist. a natural ability can help too. that, plus really enjoying/liking to do that sort of thing.

each state requires a license to practice cosmetology. to recieve a license, you must pass a state board test in all areas of cosmetology.

i went to cosmetology school in colorado and that state has one of the highest number of hours required (or did have when i went), ((i have since moved to a state requiring less hours, so the license was recripocal from colorado to the state i moved to)) for a general cosmetology license.

hope this helps.

check with a cosmetology school in your area to learn the hour requirements and a general idea of how long it takes to complete.

Besides texture.

For cosmetic purposes------hair and skin, which one would have the most restoritive properties (for example Unrefined Coconut Oil is better cosmetically than the Refined Version)

Also, can you list and explain why the two are different or direct me to a website?

Thanks so much!

(I'm trying to make my own hair care treatment)

Answer
ANHYDROUS- without water.

that second website is a most excellent store for what you are doing, last time I was there some 5 years ago in Colorado Springs.

Where can I get a monkey as a pet in Minnesota?

shotgun997

I live in Minnesota and I have always wanted to get a monkey as a pet, where can I get one?
Also does anybody know how much a good pet type one would cost?

Answer
You can't. ALL monkeys are illegal as pets in MN. If you were to illegally purchase one then you would only be sentencing it to death. It would be euthanized as soon as someone found out. And trust me, when you have a monkey people gossip, so someone WOULD find out! If you really love them so much, then you won't take the chance of having one killed. Now, if you decide to move out of state where you can legally own one, please still do your homework on this. Monkeys are not what you think. I have 2 Capuchins and I have the scars all over me to prove it. They bite, scratch, slap, 'scream', pull hair, and more. EVERYDAY. In fact, last night was one of the worst incidents I've ever had with my monkeys. I was giving one of them a bath (which they hate!). Normally he does semi OK. He always scratches me, but he is pretty tolerant with me handling him. Anyways, someone came in the house when I was bathing him and he was already upset about being bathed, but then he got even more upset about someone coming in. Anyways, you would freak if you saw my arms right now. He tore the skin all over both of my arms, hands, and my chest. And 2 seconds later he's just back to hugging and kissing me. That's just normal for a monkey. You cannot get upset when they hurt you. They don't know any better. Are you tolerant enough to deal with that?

Also, you can't have them around your friends. So, if this is for some popularity, forget it now! They hate strangers. They will bite, scratch, or pull hair of any stranger who tries to touch them. Unless you are looking for a lawsuit, you can't have monkeys around strangers. Also, even something little like pulling hair is considered an attack and could cause it to be euthanized.

Monkeys are also very expensive. You won't find a Capuchin for less than $7,500. And that's cheap. However, you must have at least 2 monkeys. 1 monkey alone will be depressed. Human companionship is NOT enough. They will pace back and forth for hours at a time, scratch until their hair falls out, and inflict pain by chewing on their own limbs. You MUST have at least 2 monkeys! Also, you will need a large enclosure, which could easily cost you thousands of dollars. The minimum cage size for most states is 6x6x6, but the larger the better. It's cruel to keep them in a small area. Do you plan on diapering them? Diapers are around $11-12 dollars for a small pack. They can easily use 8 diapers (or more) a day. Diapers for the next 40+ years is not cheap. Monkeys biscuits are a must! NO HUMAN FOOD IS ALLOWED. It kills them. Monkeys get diabetes 100 times quicker than humans. Ice cream, cookies, chips, etc. will kill monkeys. Biscuits are about $25 per bag. Monkeys should be kept on Prima-treats (vitamins) which are $80-140 per package. Yeah, not cheap. Vet bills run about 8 times what a dog vet visit would cost. Most states require at least 1 annual check up. Average price is around $500 give or take some. If you monkey ever needs a surgery, you might as well take out a 2nd morgage to pay for it!

Now, I'm not against anyone owning a monkey. I just can't stand it when people get them and they are not educated enough about how to care for them. 98% of exotics die within the 1st 2 years because the owners aren't educated enough about them. Don't be one of those owners! If you REALLY want one enough that you'd be willing to move out of state, then be sure to research everything about their care, diet, housing, enrichment, behavior, and husbandry. Feel free to email me anytime with any questions you might have. I'd be more than glad to help.

I have tried the local newspaper, search engines, plus posted a general question here on Yahoo. I was given one site, but there were no listings for Colorado. Any suggestions? I am a consultant with a company that carries botanically based skin care, aromatherapy, and nutritional hybrids.

Answer
Why don't you contact the Denver Visitors and Conventions bureau to start? They usually have a complete list of all fairs and similar events in the area. If you are trying to sell direct to consumers, (I would assume so since you are a consultant) there are a million and one local art fairs in Colorado throughout the summer. I would just start looking at chamber of commerce web sites. Many of them will sell a booth to almost any type of vendor! (But warning you will be up against all sorts of wonderful, even homemade, concoctions!)
