Can I use just olive oil for the "oil method"?

Hannah

I don't have any other oils at my house but I have olive oil and I want to try the oil method for m acne do you think I can use just olive oil or not?

Answer
Olive oil for cooking with foods? Sure, you can even go out, purchase a small 4 oz bottle of other types, it will last a long time, we should only have one table spoon per day, but use fish oils too, as a supplement, and do some reading, as most health nutrition books have sections on other supplements good for skin, hair, & nails beauty, health. It is easy to *eat to health (rather than go back and buy health through other costs,) even cosmetics, as men think solutions are *in a bottle, they are best, through what we *eat; *leafy greens, tomatoes, *plenty of fresh veggies, & *fruits, so, *drink plenty of water, (even flavor it if you like) , lemon is good, *sleep more & get *more-*exercise, *(it is all the *combination of all issues, here) which help promote *skin- health, *even in teen-age years, as *adequate protein each meal & *milk, *don't forget the *milk!

Answer
Here are some for you.

Nail growth
The average nail growth is 3mm per month or 3/32 of an inch. For the future to grow long nails:

1. water is the enemy...it softens nails so wear gloves
2. don't abuse your nails by using them to pick or pry things
3. don't bite your nails
4. don't pick or chew on your cuticles
5. rub moisturizer into your nails when you apply it to your hands
6. keep your nails short and slightly rounded
7. don't use polish remover more than twice a month
8. apply a nail hardener, but avoid products containing toluene sulfonamide or formaldehyde

Hair growth
Normal hair growth is 1/2 inch per month. You can keep your hair healthy and increase growth to 3/4 inch per month by:
taking vitamins
scalp massage
wear you hair up (it protects it from the environment)
get it trimmed on a regular basis (no trims lead to ratty ends and lots of splitting/breakage)
use a satin pillowcase
use a boar bristle brush
do final rinse with distilled water
do not shampoo daily - shampoo only when necessary
avoid metal hair accessories
do not brush or comb hair when damp
don't allow your hair to get caught under you purse strap, coat collars, etc.
if it is windy, restrain your hair (prevents knotting which leads to breaking and splitting)
apply shampoo only to scalp and roots, when you rinse, it will clean balance of hair without drying it out -never pile your hair on your head when shampooing leave it hang
always condition but only apply to hair length...not scalp or roots (ears down is best)
leave in conditioners provide the most protection
after washing you hair, wrap in towel but do not rub hair with towel
if possible, avoid heat appliances: blow dryer, flat irons, etc. - if not, limit exposure
apply extra virgin olive oil to hair...just put a small drop on your hands, rub hands together and then apply to ends only

Misc.
To eliminate puffiness under your eyes all you need is a dab of preparation H, carefully rubbed into the skin, avoiding the eyes. The hemorrhoid ointment acts as a vasoconstrictor, relieving the swelling instantly.

For skin blemishes, cover the blemish with a dab of honey and place a band-aid over it. Honey kills the bacteria, keeps the skin, sterile, and speeds healing. Works overnight.

Use your hair conditioner to shave your legs. It's a lot cheaper than shaving cream and leaves your legs really smooth. It's also a great way to use up the conditioner you bought but didn't like when you tried it in your hair.

How can I use these products specifically for different parts of the regime?

Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Rosehip Oil
Glycerin

Answer
Jojoba oil is particularly good for skincare. It contains vitamin E and antioxidants is great for moisturizing the skin, and it is also antibacterial.

You may find the following information on oils useful:

Sweet Almond - very moisturising, rich in EFAs and vitamins A & E. Light both in odour and colour and while it is suitable for all skin types, is particularly useful for dry or sensitive skin.

Apricot Kernel - similar to Sweet Almond oil chemically, but with a wonderfully light consistency and aroma making it particularly suitable for facial massage and treatments.

Grapeseed Oil - a light, gentle, emollient oil with a low odour and good penetration. Readily absorbed by the skin and carries a low risk of allergy.

Jojoba Oil - not an oil , but a liquid wax, with natural moisturising and healing properties and suitable for all skin types. Like grapeseed oil, it is not a nut oil so very suitable for those with sensitive skin.

Macadamia Nut Oil - a thick oil recommended for mature or very dry skin due to its high levels of palmitoleic acid, a mono-unsaturated fatty acid not found in most oils.

These oils can be used singly or in combination and may benefit from the addition of other oils such as -

Evening primrose oil - rich in EFA's and in particular GLA, it is very moisturising and rejuvenating, softening and smoothing the skin. It is particularly useful for excessively dry skin or for mature skin.

Rosehip oil - high in EFA's and vitamin C. Emollient and readily absorbed into the skin and is particularly useful for mature, dry or damaged skin.

Wheatgerm Oil - renowned for its high content of Vitamin E, an antioxidant, as well as fatty acids and is particularly useful for dry or mature skin.

Hope this helps!

Where and Which type of extra virgin olive oil do i buy for face scrub?

mike t

I'm planning to use it as a face scrub with brown sugar and honey. I have a lot of black heads and clogged pores on my nose that don't seem to go away. I was wondering where i could get it. Can i find in a everyday grocery store or too i need to find it in a health food store?

Answer
Any type works as long as it's extra virgin. I buy a huge bottle from the Indian grocery store. You can buy Organic if you can afford it, but EVOO is made without chemicals so regular is usually good enough.
