Well, we finally have a professional (for us) roaming the Beauty & Style section. Before that it was just us and a few senior ladies.

Actually, I can't really say 'us'. I've been here for only a few days.

Beauty/fashion blog - please help, need opinions?

ms. bug

Hey guys. So makeup is one of my passions in life and also fashion, especially handbag fashions. I've started a beauty/fashion/health blog to give tips but any feedback is appreciated. I've also included my love for real housewives and will give my opinion about it every week. I've also started a facebook page and it's connected to the blog. Please look at it, follow it if you like and click like on the fb fan box and also see my twitter page (also in the blog) I'm connected to other makeup bloggers as well. Come check me out and if you see something I don't have and would like to see it or see more of it, let me know. In fact if you have any suggestions, I'm all opened to new ideas.

visit me @ stilettolife1.blogspot.com

Let me know what you think. Thanks in advance.

What is a really good shampoo for my hair?

Clair

I have long dirty blonde hair (and when I say long I mean if I ti my head back it brushes my butt) and I have noticed that by the third day without washing it, it is really greasy. I currently use Suave Keratin Infusion Smoothing Shampoo & Conditioner, as well as the shine spray. Is this normal for my hair or what other shampoo should I be using?
Thanks!

Answer
I use Garnier, and that's for the past 16 years no conditioner since we have soft water. When traveling, I briefly rinse with bottled water. Celebrities rinse theirs with Perrier water - InStyle mag.

I do not recommend using hair products that makes your hair smoother. Read below:
Hair-straightening products are allowed to contain small concentrations of formaldehyde (0.2 percent). But several hair-straightening solutions have been found to contain well above the allowable limit. For example, one popular hair-straightening product that advertised itself as âformaldehyde-freeâ actually contained 6.8 percent to 11.8 percent formaldehyde.
Another example: Fourteen women, including two from North Texas and one from Houston, are suing Unilever, the maker of a product they claim caused permanent damage to their hair.
"It transforms frizzy, unmanageable hair into hair that's sleeker and easier to style," said the commercial for the Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion 30-Day Smoothing Kit, which is no longer being sold
When she began looking online for more information about the product, she said she found some people who said it worked, but more who said it damaged their hair.
She discovered a Facebook page devoted to angry consumers, and there are multiple postings on YouTube. I've been warning people about relaxers since 2009 and people are giving me thumbs down!
BTW: A variety of hair-straightening products used in professional salons can expose both hairdressers and their customers to formaldehyde. The results show that three professional hair-smoothing treatments labeled "formaldehyde free" can produce the cancer-causing chemical at concentrations above the occupational exposure limits set by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. They tested four products: Coppola Keratin Complex Blonde Formula, Global Keratin Juvexin Optimized Functional Keratin, La Brasiliana Escluso Keratin Treatment with Collagen, and Brazilian Blowout Acai Professional Smoothing Solution. While ChemRisk tested four popular brands of hair straighteners, THERE ARE HUNDREDS on the market. Nov. 11-11

By contrast, beauty salon owners and stylists generally lack a scientific background and don't have a keen awareness of the danger of working with products that contain formaldehyde, experts say.

Soft, shiny & healthy hair comes from: Good genes. Good hair care. Good foods from Mother Nature not made my man like John Frieda or supplements found @ GNC. Those products can only do more harm than good.. You'll get 12 responses, suggesting 12 different brands.
Causes for greasy hair:
You're using the wrong shampoo. Many are formulated for damaged, curly hair or fine hair. I'd take them back. One hotel sample shampoo I have, made my hair greasy by the 2nd day, and I started itching, they normally sell for $15. JLo's New Loreal Commercial? Her hair is greasy & flat there!
You're having conditioner buildup. Many don't even need conditioner. I don't, haven't used it for over 16 years.
You're using oil on your hair, to protect your hair from straightening/curling tools.
You're eating too many oily foods.
You're shampooing frequently.
You're using too many hair products: gel, mousse, you're not letting your hair breath. Too much product can limit natural hair movement, clump hair together, weigh it down and make it look greasy and thin.
You're going to bed with damp hair.
Your liquid make up or moisturizer can evaporate and touches your hair. Rinse your face well before going to bed.

After shampooing, use two towels (long hair) to absorb most of the water from your hair. Blow-dry only for 5 mins. concentrate on the roots, before going to bed, if you're shampooing before bed.

Find the cause then eliminate them.

I DID AN EXPERIMENTATION, and this was for one day: I used the same shampoo. Since I was in a hurry, I only blow dried my hair just the roots, leaving half of my hair not dried. So, I put it up in a bun. Eight hours later, I decided to take the bun out, and my hair was still damped, stringy, greasy! I tried blow-drying it, but it didn't get dried, there's no way to get them dried, and I used my blow-dryer. I even stood by the air fan, since it was hot, and my hair didn't go back to normal, but the roots of my hair was as silky, soft, smooth like always. The following day, my hair was as greasy, but the roots remained normal. WHY? Because the shampoo ingredients, and not getting them 95% dried, tampered the hair. Good way if you have frizzy hair, but not to my normal hair.

How do you maintain the Organix straightening treatment in the 30 day period?

Kimberly

I've heard it lasts for about 30 days but how do you maintain you hair during the 30 days? Do you just wash it weekly and condition? Are there special products for maintenance?

Answer
I do not recommend them.

I was watching a document and a man left a can in hair relaxer. The can dissolved. Can hair relaxers really do this?

Answer
Watch: Good Hair - Documentary by Chris Rock 2009. or Tyra Banks What is Good Hair. Black women spend 80% of all hair products. She's got good advice! There's a reason why that documentary was made, to EDUCATE PEOPLE. A hairstylist in Portland, Or. is blowing a whistle on the treatment.
"A big red flag: About a month after she started using Brazilian Blowout on clients, Scrutton had the first nosebleed of her life." I've been warning people since Dec. 2009.

Canada had issued a public health warning regarding Brazilian Blowout and has stopped the distribution of their salon product; Ireland has also issued a recall. ~ Also published in Vogue Feb. 2011.

Stylists and clients often wear gas masks or other protective equipment and still may feel the ill effects of this potentially fatal gas.

Hair straighteners are known as hair relaxers, keratin treatments and hair-smoothing products. They work by breaking and reforming the chemical bonds in keratin, which is the main protein that gives shape to each hair.

In Sept. the federal government put out a hazard alert about the hair-smoothing treatment, Brazilian Blowout etc. warning that it contains liquid formaldehyde that can turn into formaldehyde gas when heated during a treatment. Now, the company's bottles of solution carry a warning label to alert stylists to the potential formaldehyde risk and the need to perform the treatment in a well-ventilated area. The manufacturer said Monday (3-6-12) that it had agreed to settle a class-action lawsuit for about $4.5 million.

The FDA has previously received complaints that the products cause adverse reactions, including nervous system problems such as headaches, respiratory tract problems, nausea, chest pain, vomiting and rashes.

Is Lakme products good for hair rebonding?

Sakina

I am planning to go for hair rebonding and Lakme Salon is the only good one I know near by. I am just doubtful of the Lakme products that they use. Is Lakme a trustworthy brand when comes to hair rebonding? Or should I look for a parlour that uses Loreal products?
